I don't know what to tell you about what ROM to use... I have always had heating problems on my d850 until I did the thermal paste mod. It did wonders for me. Granted, it still heats up but it doesn't lag anymore unless I'm really pushing it. What device do you have and are you running a custom kernel or stock?

i installed it and it was all great and i had a quadrant score of 1800 plus... i noticed that my phone was lagging yesterday just like before the lagfix and i had a quadrant score of 1045 !!!! .. can someone help me here ?
It's not suported anymore by the dev.
Get a kernel like Speedmod, Voodoo or similar.
Don't want to look stupid, but what's a kernel?

then read some threads and topics about kernels and the file systems here on xda, cuz flashing stuff you dont know what it is, is not a good plan :Ä
That does sound strange..... I recall a similar slowing after a few weeks of use. If you remove the lag fix via the app and reapply, you should see the speed return. Make sure you have a full battery, the app will only allow use if you have a certain battery percentage, can't remember how much though - it's been a while.

Why does the GN lag so much when installing a app from the playstore?
And can something be done that i can use the device while a app gets installed?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I think it's because Android is just not so optimized, it lags on almost every debice
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
On my stock optimus2x or anfriends note 2 there is not the slightest lag when installing a app.
GN basicly locks up so i doubt its android somehow...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Because the CPU takes a hit with processing the install (unpacking resources, etc). OMAP CPUs are very open for development/modding compared to other CPUs, but the side effect is they're not quite as powerful due to avoiding some libraries and hardware techniques other CPUs might use that are proprietary in certain cases.

Personally I don't have that problem with my gnex . Its smooth as ever but, I don't leave unused apps using resources like fb or other rogue apps.

so i went back to stock (with the exact same apps as before) and this is a huge difference, no lag at all, no even when installing apps from the playstore. no need for any seeder or lagfix hack to get the device working as it should.
so now the question is wether the lag apears as well after some time or if the lag thing is only present in custom roms. and if so then the question is why.
i will keep my device on stock for some weeks to see how it goes.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It will almost certainly come back, and it's not only present in custom ROMs. A clean install of a custom ROM should result in the same speed boost as a clean install of a stock ROM. See the following thread:
Nexus Storage Performance Over Time & TRIM
I would also say it depends on what governor and I/O scheduler you use. I would say try the stock settings of interactive and cfq.

as far as i can remember all custom roms literaly froze when a app was installed. so far i have not seen this on stock and i dont think that is a mather of trim or sheduler/governor.
but i will find out soon enough i guess...
Edit: forgot to ask, you are on a custom rom and your device doesnt freeze while installing apps?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have tried 3-4 ROMs so far and never faced this problem.
While downloading apps, I can parallely do other tasks, play games, make and receive calls.
And if this helps, My GNex is 7 months old.

I agree. I'm using XENON HD Stable-4.0 Franco kernel r364. Ever since dumping the stock ROM, the Play Store performance is painfully slow. I have 276 apps on my Galaxy Nexus and the Play Store seems to be the only app that impairs the phone's performance so dramatically.
As a previous poster said, a lot has to happen when installing an app. So I tear myself away from my beloved comm dev from a few minutes and do something else. Like relate to my wife
From watching the review videos, the Note 3 seems pretty fluid, much more snappier than the S4. Just wondering if I can get anyone's perspective on it? How snappy is the UI? Does the browser have any lag? Overall performance? Thanks
I have no lag at all. When I took the battery out or restart it takes a min with the optimizing apps at the beginning bc its like 270 apps installed but after that I have no complaints. Not sure if it does the optimizing thing bc im stock rooted or if thats normal.

I second this. I can't see any lag on anything. And I mean anything. Launcher, launching and using apps, scrolling, etc. Super buttery smooth all around.
Third this... Zero lag at all!
I have zero lag. I'm running a stock rooted Rom on T-Mobile with Apex Launcher. The 2.3 GIG processor and the 3 GIG of Ram handle this with lots of room to spare!!!

Thanks to all ya'll, thats very good to hear. I cannot stand lag.
It has more to do with having 4.3 unlike the s4 thst had 4.2

Mad lag on my s4 and 0 lag on my note3
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
No lag for the most part, but when turning off the screen, there is a delay from when the button is pressed to when it decides to actually do something.
No lag for me. This phone is fast and smooth.

Is anybody elses phone over heating? I'll just be browsing the web or now I put it to charge and the bottom of the phone feels like it's burning. Anyone else having this problem?

Same here, it's been happening on almost every rom I use even when I enable thermal throttling
Stock. It's only rooted so I can have ad away. There isn't even a custom recovery.

im having the same issues with the stock rom. I am not a huge fan of it and am considering going back to 4.1. I have reset my phone completely twice now and have tried the gservices fix as well. I really like the stock rom and don't see any big difference in the stock rom from 4.1 to 4.4
There a couple differences, but not really worth the wait. We had to go through. I wish they would've added more features to stock kit kat. But it ok.

If the overheating occurs with mobile data enabled it's totally normal.
Sent from my LG-G Pro using Tapatalk
To help reduce heat, what i usually do is change the cpu governor to interactive, and underclock both the cpu and gpu, especially if im not doing resource intensive tasks like gaming. I use trickstermod to toggle settings, and i make sure "mpdecision" and "soc temprature toggle" are both activated. Also i check lg hidden settings and make sure "thermal daemon mitigation off" setting remains off. Lastly i decrease the screen brightness as well.

Check you battery stats for any process/app using excessive battery.
I noticed a slight overheating issue running CyanogenMod11 until flashing madmacks modem. That was to fix a deep sleep issue to improve battery while a corollary of that fix seemed to be much less overheating.
Underclocking and adjusting governer settings through trickster, as mentioned above, also mitigated any overheating issue.
Just out of curiosity, when overheating is mentioned about what temp are we talking about?

Yeah same here i tot to att v20g 4.4.2 .
last night when i do wireless charging its really hot even its already charged to full still not cool down. Never had that issue with other rom.

This is the problem with stock 4.4, i've confirmed it, Optimus G F180, G Pro F240 and GK F220 all are going hot, while surfing the web specially with 3G on, however it was not a problem in the stock 4.1.2. thanks,
The battery issues are so bad, I'd be willing to go back to KitKat. Does anyone know if that's an option or not?

Zenfone 2 was sent out with lollipop its basically impossible to get Kitkat.
also im wondering when you are using your phone like browsing or other apps (not games) does it get a bit warm where the camera lens is around that area?
I would like to have this option too!
kitkat is far better than lollipop.would be fantastic, but it's almost impossible
