I guess Everything will be wiped including internal storage but you wont have to flash anything! You will just have to set up the device again!

Problem with Sandvold ROM ICS for Desire

Hi guys,
I have an other problem with this ROM. Sometimes when I turn off the screen the device locks, the only solution is remove the battery and turn off the Desire.
When the device locks I have or the screen totally black or the boot animation blocked and any commands don't work.
Someone have this problem or know the solution?? Thanks
Jerry

Go back to using a stable rom and stop using a beta rom only to complain things doesn't work properly afterwards.
Go to recovery and do full wipe. Factory reset, cache and dalvik cache

Ok, Thanks. I have another question for you about this ROM. The volume (ring and alarm) is very low, how can I increase it??
From sandvold site
"Volume is very low!
Have you used Amarullz or Darktremor A2SD? Although both methods uaually work well they have been shown to cause lots of FCs with this ROM. A alternative A2SD method is baked right into this ROM so you don't need another one. See the question above this one."
Also you can download via market "audiomanager"..
But propably its the a2sd
You use darktremor script ? Because when you move dalvik cache to sd your sound will be low
Sent from my HTC Desire
i use it too, but my sound its ok, it wasnt at 0.3.4, but now at 0.3.6 my problem is fixed

Yes i use Darktremor script. I flashed this script because the "native" app2sd script of the ROM doesn't work good.
I follow the guide of the ROM to install the script but after the reboot i have always the same problem, the problem is that every app that I install is copied to both internal memory and external partition, so the internal memory fills up quickly.
The sound is now ok.
I still have the problem that I wrote at the beginning of this discussion (freezing of the device) but it is less rare.

No, actually i didn't format the system, i did only all wipe. I can do also the format .
So I can do this:
wipe chache
wipe dalvik cache
factory reset
format system
flash ROM
it's right???
do this
i did this and everything works fine
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. mounts and storage --> format system
u dont need to do anything else..these 2 options do all the other wipes and formats
3. install clean rom
tell me what happend

Gallery problems
Its a great ROM with a few expected problems being a beta. The problem I'm having is with the gallery. I can't access any of my albums.
I've tried Quick Pics but it doesn't find images stored online in G+ or Picasa albums.
Has anyone else come across this using a2sd?
sorry man, dont know what else to say..

Will wiping System in TWRP delete contents of sdcard?

When I'm flashing a new ROM, I like to install it as cleanly as possible. Usually a factory reset along with wiping cache and dalvik. Doing this, I know my sdcard contents will remain safe. Does wiping system in TWRP wipe out my sdcard as well? If not, I'll start doing that as well. If it does, I guess I won't.
no, only /system.
only time your SDCARD is wiped is if you choose format /sdcard.
No. Wiping system wipes /system. Wiping internal storage wipes the internal storage. The two don't cross at all.
Thanks a lot, both of you.
For giggles, what does wiping system do? Obviously wipes system, but I mean in terms of flashing a new ROM. How is it beneficial, I guess is what I'm asking.

it makes the /system partition is clean so there is no remnants of the previous rom.
most rom installs include a script that wipe it, so generally its not needed.
You will also lose the contents of /sdcard when you lock/unlock your bootloader. (root)

Hey Guys
Yep
Very useful. One up from me as well. IS TWRP only way to do FULL WIPE or are there alternatives? For example, can this be achieved without being rooted?
bump LOL does wiping the ext_sd actually wipe the data or is it still accessible via linux? im hoping that it only deletes the data table
nvm, it only deletes the data table. Data recovered, crisis averted
I know this is now 4 months old, so using twrp system wipe- wipes out the current android firmware too or no?
If you just want to delete everything from Android SD card , you'd better use eraser tool to do ,
Once you use it to erase your Android SD card , all of the data save on the SD card can be completely deleted ,

[Q] Is it nesesary wiping everything when changing rom?

Well, i heard about the new releases of Cyanogenmod 11 for the tablet and i'm really excited. I have experience with roms and i read that i need to wipe everything, even the fake sd card partition and i have like 20gb of data there, is it really necesary to wipe it? I tought i could change rom just wiping system data but if it is necessary i would move all that to my pc.
Thanks so much in advance.
By the way, if anyone is using cyanogenmod, does it improve the perfomance on battery and all that? Thanks again for answering.

No need to wipe the SD, a simple factory reset/system format when going from one Rom base to another (from stock to CM in this case) is enough.

So the factory reset on twpr recovery wouln't wipe all my data stored on the sd? Have you tried it by yourself? Does Cm11 worth the change? Thank s for the answer and sorry for the lot of questions haha

Yup, won't touch the SD at all... Doing it all the time using TWRP 2.6.3.1.
CM11 runs nice here, am using a non-Caf version so more kernels are compatible. Using ElementalX myself :good:
i did something stupid....
i did wipe my sd card.
This is what i get for not paying attention and watching football while i was wiping.
this is what i did:
1) downloaded cm 11 and gapps on tablet
2) went into twrp and did a nandroid.
3) went into advance wipe & wiped everything: dalvic, system, data, internal storage, cache
4) went to install and it was blank so i slapped the forehead
5) went to https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#razor and downloaded https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/razor-krt16s-factory-7235eb0d.tgz on the computer
6) also went ahead and downloaded http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/50524/cm-11-20131208-NIGHTLY-flo.zip on the computer
7) also downloaded http://www.mediafire.com/download/ahbnc2k5u5op501/pa_gapps-full-4.4-20131126-signed.zip on the computer
so i am still in twrp.
can i boot into bootloader? is it there?
i thought the image file extension ended in .img
what was downloaded was a .tgz file.
since i dont have an os on the tablet i can not enable usb debugging so will adb work?
im a bit of a noob with adb but i think im about to get a crash course.
Thanks in advance for some advice

[Q] Flash of a wrong Kernel

HI everyone
I made a mistake yesterday, I flashed a wrong kernel ( the F4ktion dedicated to the CM11 versions while I was 10.2 (I didnt pay attention to the mention JB).
The phone rebooted and stucked on the samsung logo. Then, screen slowly turning gray.
Having access to the download mode, I flashed the bml4 rom stock (probably the main mistake) but this time the phone was stuck on the second samsung logo without turning gray.
Last point, it is impossible for me to get to recovery mode, download fashion meanwhile is still accessible.
Is there a solution?
Thanks
I'd download a stock image of the firmware, install it using Odin and download mode, then flash TWRP recovery, format everything, and install the original firmware again using Odin. That way, you'd make sure your phone is completely clean of errors. Also, is format the micro sd as exFat.
Hope it helps

You didn't need to ODIN the stock ROM back. You could've just reflash the correct kernel and wipe cache/davilk and it should work. What I would recommend you do know is flash a custom recovery and do a complete wipe than ODIN again.

I don't get it, why format the MicroSD card as exFAT? FAT32 works just fine unless you have a 32GB+ card.
Hi
Thank's for your answers.
I'd like to keep the data on my sd card, so I have done the wipe cache and dalvik but still the same problems.
In your opinion, flash the cyanogen rom be able to fix this problem or isnt recommended?
If you have other opinions so I do not reset everything I'm interested. (Flash of good kernel, flash of f4ktion?..)
Otherwise I will resolve to do the full wipe.
You could try getting a stock kernel and flash it using Odin. I'd that doesn't work, i think you should full wipeand reinstall the firmware. I think you could also flash am original firmware image without wiping and that could fix the errors.

If you wiped davilk/cache and still doesn't work, it looks like you have to do a full wipe - no other ways around.
Just to clarify, you want to keep data on the internal storage or SD card? Full wipe does not wipe SD card unless you specifically tells it to.

Internal storage...and flash a cyanogen rom couldnt be a solution?
You still will need to flash a custom recovery first.
Than, if you want, you can install Cyanogen of course, it comes with kernel and all..
Just be sure that you are ready to switch the whole ROM

With a soft brick like stuck at boot animation, generally no. You need to do a clean wipe.
hi everyone! Firstly thank you for your help. so I resolved to do a complete wipe with relocation of a stock rom and it worked.

Unable To Properly Install Pure Nexus Nougat & Nandroid Not Working

Hi! I went into the latest TWRP recovery with unlocked bootloader, and I wiped system, cache, dalvik and data. Then I flashed the proper vendor image, the ROM zip, Gapps and then Elemental X kernel. However, when I reboot, it just boots me into TWRP recovery. I have tried wiping dalvik cache and cache. I then tried restoring a nandroid, but it just got stuck on the Google screen. Didn't even get to the colored dots screen. I ended up flashing factory image, but I would like to get my Nandroids working and this ROM. Please help! Thanks
I'm no expert but I think it might be happening because of encryption. Did you disable encryption before doing all this stuff?

Encryption in stock Android? As far as I know, I can't turn it off. It says that the device is encrypted in settings. I think nougat forces encryption.
Unless maybe there's a patched kernel that can do that?

I dont think is your problem , im encrypted and never have issues with twrp! Never!! What version of twrp you running? Theres an unofficial kicking around that is much better than official! Maybe you got a bad download! I would redownload all, find and download unofficial twrp 3.0.2.3 I believe. Let your phone boot before you flash custom kernel, thats always worked great for me. The latest official twrps 3022 and 3021 both have nandroid restore issues as well efs restore issues that could ruin your day

Wipe just deletes all data on the partition. Format makes the partition again, therefore it removes encryption, repairs potential problems etc. Format data has dedicated button in TWRP, for formatting System go to Advanced Wipe, check system, tap on Partition details, check EXT4 and perform format.

A Thought
Dunno if this will help, but whenever I flash a ROM/kernel combo, I always flash the ROM/gapps, boot up with whatever kernel is included in ROM to make sure it boots properly, and then after successful boot flash EX kernel through TWRP.
OK, so I formatted DATA and SYSTEM, and I wiped CACHE and DALVIK. I then flashed the proper vendor image, pushing it to the device with adb push, and then adb sideload for the pure nexus ROM. It's currently installing. Then, I will adb sideload the gapps ZIP file. Then I'll reboot and see if it worked
EDIT: It just said "No OS installed"
EDIT 2: Just flashed the ROM again, and it is showing the boot animation. This time I did not do Gapps. I also wiped and formatted everything again. Hope all goes well.
EDIT 3: The ROM booted fine. Glad all is working now

So I had flashed the ROM with no Google Apps or anything, just the ROM. But when I add a Google Account, I can't because it says Google Play Services has stopped. I just noticed that the build number is one of a Nexus 6P, and the vendor image is different, the one I manually flashed.
