Low sound from headset - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The volume is lower than other devices. Is it something common with the phone ?

Yeah I've noticed it's lower than my past devices too. I think it's pretty normal. It's kind of a bummer because I do like to use the output into my car stereo and it's kind of soft. If you're rooted you could probably do something about.

If you're rooted, install a custom kernel to increase the volume

[Q] Best EQ Settings for Gmusic?

I just bought some AudioTechnica ATH-M50's (AHHHHMAZING btw), and I can't make them sound any better than my old like $30 headphones on my phone and tablet. Anyone have any EQ app/setting recommendations for me?
Equalizer. makes my 13$ headphones sound like 100$ headphones.

I dont mean to take dump on this thread but i wouldnt get my hopes up. The gnex dac sounds good, but its really nothing special. Coming from a sgs1 with a wolfson dac, i always find myself wanting more.

heh... had the epic. Compared the two with the same song and headphones and such. However the epic had voodoo sound my gnex stock. Boths sound quality was similar. Maybe it's just me but I didn't hear a big difference.

That is what I have. I switched to Galaxy Nexus after using Sony Ericsson's Walkman phone for 3 years and the first few days have been terrible as for audio experience! I am using the stock headphone

Faceplam.
The packaged phones always suck. Always
Get another pair from an audio focused brand.
Also, up your low-mids a smidge...that might help your sound.

Just have to reiterate for the millionth time
The equalizer should not have any bars turned up higher than 0
That is, the middle. Any adjustments should exist below the center. If they are higher, it will cause clipping during certain songs and passages.
So, if you've made some great sounding setup, and your highest bar is at +7, turn all the bars down 7 ticks so they are the same compared to one another, but the highest bar is now 0. You will need to adjust the volume up to get the same loudness.

I know I don't own a nexus yet but I'll do a few things in hopes to get the audio better.
The mods I used you saw in the picture of the equalizer, the reason those were up is because it was allowed to use the bands properly with the appropriate audio mod.
Also.. if you do turn them up without an audio mod just lower your volume and turn up the highs/mids, not too much though otherwise exactly as you said.. clipping or giant distortion.

Speakers are not very loud...

Is it just me or are the new speakers much softer than the previous N7? It does sound much better with the Stereo setup instead of Mono, but the volume just seems low even at max volume. Maybe its just me...
The new Nexus 7 speakers are much louder for me than the old ones.
Speakers have plenty of volume...

I am also in the same boat. Low Sound and I was wondering a way to check it.
Also, i tried listening to it by placing my ears on the speakers and I am not able to hear anything from the top speakers at all. The down seem to work fine.
So can you check and let me know which speakers are affected and also what are you software version or and using any custom rom?
I am on stock, Unrooted, locked and nothing changed from me till yet.
Mine is also not loud and I hear sound form both speakers . I just tested it against my phones and........galaxy s3, galaxy s2, galaxy note 2 are louder by alot.
Make sure you guys are testing with the right things, for example with music or podcasts mine are very loud and its great but Youtube can be sporadic because not every video is made well and the sound doesnt get through. If you are watching a professional channel then they should be great but some people dont do too well with the sound on youtube. Also netflix for me is very loud and clear and overall everything is much better than my original N7

Is yours louder than this?

my speakers work fine and loud. But i read somewhere that due to the angle of the speakers (almost rear facing), some people have complained about weak speakers.
I have sound mod increase by 50 percent for my gs3. Wonder if it would work with the nexus 7. Prolly not as 4.3 might have different files.

I had this problem when I tried the Motorola headphones on my Samsung.
Are you using the original Samsung headphones?
If so, make sure the jack is firmly plugged all the way in.

Im using my Sol Republic V10's. I was having the issue this week and last night and it wouldn't do it on my Note 1 or Note 3. This morning I plugged them in my tab and the problem was gone. I'm worried somethings wrong with the jack but I'm gonna swap my headphones out at best buy today and see what happens. It's seated in the jack real good by the way.
Sound is amazing. I own the Sony X Headphones (MDRX10)
Yup it must have been the connection. New headphones, no issues. Just need viper and life will be good!

Headphone volume low

Has anyone noticed that headphone volume isnt that loud..
Any ideas how to make better?
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
Yea I agree
Not till root.
The G3 suffered from the same ailment, but it was easily fixed by editing a file with the max volume value. There was also an app on the play store, but as stated above - root is required.

Yeah but why do people need to worry about fixing all these bugs for a phone that costs $600+ and is supposed to be a flagship. I bet it also sucksnt recording audio in rock concerts and alike.
Sent from my LG-H815
So what have to be edited to gain the volume ? Can someone provide me a link ?

Agreed. I can set it to max volume and not be bothered at all.
Agree headphone volume is low but I'm usually BT streaming to my car so all good there.

The volume is low on my Bose headphones, same headphones on my nvidia tablet sound pretty good. Blue tooth isn't bad with an equalizer app.

I've found that the type of headphones you use play a factor as well. I have a pair of Bose in ear headphones that are designed for sports activities such that they stay in your ear no matter how crazy you move; the volume is fairly low with those headphones, but with the Quadbeats that LG provided with the phone - the volume gets plenty loud. I've actually started using the ghastly red and black headphones just because they're decent quality and can get very loud.

Dolby

a little interested in this phone for someone else it seems balanced at everything(battery, performance, charging speed, display, camera, price etc.) except for no root, updates which may not be important for the person I'm giving it to and the speakers I've heard all reviews talk about. does it come with Dolby for increasing volume? since viper isn't an option atm
also is everyone ordering directly from zteusa site?
Yes. Dolbi increase the volume while using headphones. There is no auto on after connecting headphones. You have to turn it on
