Hi
I was wondering if other OP3 Owners tried installing audio mods such as Viper4Android and MaxxAudio?
I faced bugs with Viper4Android, SE was on permissive but it wasnt processing audio.

Look into how to remove the deep buffer from audiopolicy.
Then v4a should work fine.
I don't have my device yet so can't confirm but this is usually all that is needed

Can we uninstall XtremeMusic AudioFX without it messing up V4A? Dont really want another app thats not being used on my app drawer.
I'll be making a flashable zip once I get the device which will allow you to run viper with enforcing se policy mode.
Can anyone link to this viperfix apk.
Does it simply modify the audio policy?

Yeah, unlocked bootloader, custom recovery and root are required for pretty much any modifications. Can't modify system files without root, can't flash ZIPs without custom recovery, can't get custom recovery without unlocked bootloader.
Also it's advised to make a nandroid backup before you start messing with the device which again requires stuff mentioned above.
If you're not yet rooted, there's a good guide on this forum; just follow it by the letter and everything will be fine. Just a heads-up: unlocking bootloader will wipe your device (factory reset) so be prepared to spend some time setting it up again ...
I think it's important to link the source.

I'm not sure if I want to root or not, but if I do it definitely wouldn't be until some of the ROMs start supporting Dash charge.
ATTENTION!
Flashing "DivineBeats" is not as simple and safe as Edios suggests.
On my device, I get a bootloop, i.e. the device boots up to the launcher, I can do something for a few seconds, then the device reboots.
Same thing as when I flashed Viper4Android.
Perhaps it's just an incompatibility with Xposed, who knows; but for now, these sound mods are unfortunately not usable by me...

I have tried installing V4A, but after installing drivers it hangs upon opening, eventually causing the phone to reboot.
I have tried both backing up and renaming the htc_audio_effects.conf file, as well as editing it to include the V4A info. Nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?
First of all you need root. You have to set Android to permissive, then install V4A using TWRP and ZIP. Install drivbers and it will work AFTER you set V4A driver mode to "compatible". Just tested using latest Leedroid custom rom (nightly R34) on HTC 10 (s-off).

Check your selinux status it needs to be permissive for V4A to work.
Actually I installed it and it works. Kinda. And yes I used a script to get permissive selinux. It only works with music, (spotify, google music). Youtube has no sound whatsoever ar audible is crackling and fussing all over. "Fixed" it by changing the htcaudioeffect file back to normal, which disables viper4android. I just wish it worked with all sound.
First off I will say I am on Stock Rooted ROM and it works perfectly, I have confirmed its 100% compatible, You DO NOT have to use permissive, I have an Enforcing Patch in my thread along with more info on what you need to do to get it working, also for HTC 10 there is a specific file to flash that I also made, without it V4A will not work, and keep asking to install drivers!
My Thread
V4A HTC 10 Fix
After this, if you can't get it working either there is something you still haven't done or your ROM developer has messed up a certain system file associated with Audio, I have seen this before.
One last thing I should note, S-ON can cause issues, you should either have S-OFF or System Write Protection Disabled via a kernel module, S-ON can prevent a script from making changes to /System.
About V4A
On the A9 it will work but it will put Boomsound to Off all the time, is it the same on the 10 or you can use both without problem?

I use both no problem, personal Profile and V4A works great, Dolby Headphone effect works perfectly as well.
I installed the 2 zips a couple of days ago and the sound is pretty great for me. I see people mentioning different profiles, enabling speaker and other modes, etc., but how can you do that without installing the APK (as advised not to)? I don't know of any other UI to control those types of things?

Hello guys. Anyone succeeded to install Viper4android after the update to oos 3.1.3? I have root and twrp, I tried to install drivers through the app and flash a general zip for marshmallow but I did not succeed. Any idea?
Dis you see that post and links inside?

Download the latest APK, copy it to /system/priv-app. Change Permissions to rw- r-- r-- . Install APK you just changed permissions on. Open app, install drivers (you must also have BusyBox installed if it's failing to install the driver), change SElinux to permissive (search XDA here for the app that does it automatically), turn off AudioFX and reboot. That's how it goes on Marshmallow and even then Viper may sometimes get closed in the background.
im on OOS 3.1.3 & this works great for me, no hassle just flash via twrp & your done.

Hey Can someone please find out a supported Viper4android for OP7T.
Installing through magisk gives a bootloop
Installing drivers directly through the Viper4android app too gives a Bootloop
Already tried the existing method updated on xda for getting Viper4android to work on android 10. Unfortunately it gives a bootloop too.
I've been racking my brain trying to find a solution, have yet to find one. All thus far end in bootloop.
Not giving up hope.

I am not sure, I just thought if you've factory reset to remove the bootloop, I guess you have nothing to lose if you try this one. If that's not the case, you're in the same boat as me, not wanting to risk a factory reset in case it doesn't work. Not having a recovery really sucks...

This should be able to flash in EXKM or Franco kernel Manager. It zip uses anykernel which makes be believe it only modifies the boot image. If I'm correct, you should be able to restore with just flashing stock boot.

I've tried that and it didn't work for me unfortunately. (Getting viper to work)
Sent from my OnePlus7TPro using XDA Labs
I tried to install viper4android as well, I should have researched this thing first.
Here is my story so far:
the module did not seem to do anything.
Installed the apk, which wanted to install drivers, I finally gave in and allowed it to install.
After a reboot the device rebooted to fastboot, hit start.
Device goes back to fasstboot (does not reach bootanimation, then restarts to fasstboot)
Clearing cache from Recovery did not help.
No TWRP, full SE Linux and no way to mount those secured filesystems
So I tried booting the unpatched boot image, this works, my phone is not dead yay.
-> flashed unpatched boot.img, phone able to boot again, but no root
Opened Magisk manager, repatched a stock boot image,
20.2 a6e62e07 (20102)
Tried booting:
-> patched with safe mode (not sure what this does), hangs at fasstboot mode screen, force turn off
-> patched without safe mode, restarts to fasstboot
I can boot the test-TWRP, but I could not find anything relevant to either extract or replace / disable.
I tried finding a way to flag something so that Magisk would not try to load the viper module
The only logs I could find were related to the TWRP boot, so I cant see what error might be causing this.
I flashed the OTA 10.0.4 again in the hopes it would unpatch whatever the viper install did.
Luckily I got to keep data, but now I fear there might be something lingering somewhere...
Anyone have any advice on what to try next?
Is a factory reset really the only way to get back Magisk?

I'm so sorry. I don't have a 7T yet so I was not able to test. According to a 7T pro thread it is because of post-fs-data that viper causes the phone to go to fastboot. So i removed the lines in there that lead to post-fs-data but it still crashes.

It's not working because you are just modifying the installed module, not the actual installer, which we do not have the source code of.
If anyone is interested, follow this to create your custom recovery. Then you can remove the post-fs-data via adb from the recovery.

I am pretty sure the installer is open source. It is called Unity. And I did modify the installer. Post-fs-data is magisk file that loads a script on boot. In the case of the OP7T, this script causes it to crash to fastboot. I'm pretty sure the only reason it didn't work for the other user was because their selinux was enforcing instead of permissive.
So as the title says, need collective experience to make the move, and be preemptive along the way of the possible pitfalls and limitations.
Havent experimented much with my XL 128GB lying circa 2018 when i bought it and it still runs fine. As of now it is :
1. Google model (not any carrier branded unit).
2. Android V 8.0.0
3. Bootloader Unlocked (OEM Unlocking enabled int he Developer Options)
4. Rooted.
5. Custom recovery TWRP 3.2.0.-0 installed.
My primary intended use was to make it my music player with AptX-HD and LDAC enabled via the Developer Options, for my wireless hifi headphones and it has been doing so.
As an semi-audioholic I have Viper4Android and Dolby ATMOS working fine on it, with Sony Walkman App, these were only found to work correctly on 8.0.0 as i did spent a great deal of time to make them work with 8.1.1 back in the day.
So I am looking for the most safest route to upgrade to 10.0.0 with the possibility of knowing if the below would remain applicable.
1. Should I go for OTA update as-is OR Do i need to relock bootloader or Un-root before the OTA update. (Any sequence or specific steps to be followed).
2. Will the OTA update lock the bootloader and will remove the root privileges.
3. Is it possible to unlock the bootloader and re-root the device on v.10.0.0 (any guide link appreciated).
4. Will the OTA overwrite the TWRP recovery, is there any newer/better recovery + kernel available with V.10.0.0 (any guide link appreciated).
5. Will ARISE audio (Viper + Dolby + Sony Music Apps) work on the latest android version.
6. Is all the hassle recommended, if the experience is significantly better on v.10.0.0. Any known issues with the latest android, which I should be aware of.
7. Any alternate way and/or newer/better DSP recommended to work with v.10.0.0 for sound enhancements.
8. Is Magisk framework and module working with v.10.0.0.
Thanks for reading and replying , as it would chalk out a path not only for me but for community at large for someone on a similar quest as mine.
Appreciate your input.
1. Download a pixel factory image from Google(latest is Dec 2019) and flashed it using fastboot( u will find guide on xda or YT)
2 Do not relock botloader if you want to root or install custom rom
3. Dolby Atmos will not work,if you flash Dolby Atmos mod zip in magisk it may cause bootloop .viper fx may work never tried
4. Android 10 is much better in user experience it is smooth
5. You can root your phone using latest magisk in twrp
6. There are some good kernel available for android 10 for pixel like Elemental x 5.6, king kernel v6.1, etc.
7. There is no sound enhancement mod for android 10, viper may work
8. U can't do some system modification like changing boot animation, system sound, font by yourself. If u want customization u can install custom rom though
My english is bad
hope this will help u

1 Yes pixel factory image will overwrite custom recovery
2. You can install a custom recovery as well as custom rom after 10
3. You don't need custom recovery permanently installed to root your phone. ( Temporary boot into twrp using fastboot and twrp.img and install magisk)
4. If you pixel is old consider a Battery drain as battery life decreases with age
5. Follow the link

Actually I never permanently install TWRP. If the latest TWRP not works for you try using earlier version and see if that works.

Can you please elaborate on the reasons of it, and how do you do a non-permanent install.
Thanks.

TWRP is Optional. It's written over there in the OP of each Rom
I always did USB debugging option enabled in developer option and give my PC Authorization. So if something goes wrong I can always flash a factory image. In Android 10 I can't make a nandroid backup of the stock rom before flashing any custom rom. so there no point to install TWRP permanently because if something goes wrong u can't restore a backup. If I want in flash any zip in TWRP I always temporary boot into it using fastboot and flash.
TWRP will be permanently needed when you want to install ota updates for the ROM.
I am not an expert though
Please follow the OP :good:
Has anyone gotten viper4android to work on 9pro global yet? I've tried several versions with no luck.
Yes, you just need to install the "Ainur Narsil" and "Audio Mod Library" modules in magisk first. Reboot, then install viper. Good luck!

There is a thread in here in reference to this very topic. You have to install more than just Viper to get the drivers to install. The thread I referred to says to install JamesDSP, reboot, install the DeWitt version on the Viper app (2.7.2.1 I think) it'll prompt you to install the drivers, reboot and done. I had mixed results with this method, sometimes the processing would just stop, start, stop....
I install AML v4.0 first, install Ainur Sauron, reboot, install Viper apk, the drivers, reboot, Dolby Digital Plus reboot and done. You can remove the Ainur Sauron module after all that if your so inclined, the Dolby Digital Plus isn't necessary either but it all works flawlessly.
Install in order
Viper4androidFX via Magisk
Reboot
Audio Modification Library via magisk
Reboot
Push the file (extract from the zip) to data/adb/modules/ViPER4Android/ that i have uploaded and set permission 644
(it should now be data/adb/modules/ViPER4Android/post-fs-data.sh)
Reboot
Open viper, set to legacy mode, then check if status is now normal
Amazingly this has been working on all my phones with A11
This is the process that worked for me:
Uninstall any previous versions of Viper and other audio mods
Install SELinuxModeChanger or use another method to change your SELinux to permissive
Install Audio Modification Library from Magisk > Reboot
Install Audio Compatibility Patch from Magisk > Reboot
Install Viper4Android 2.7.2.1 from Magisk > DONT REBOOT
Open the newly installed Viper app and download the drivers > Reboot
Open Viper and hit the Settings in the top right
Turn on Legacy Mode
Good Luck

This worked for me! I had to disable AML, reboot, re-enable, reboot as additional steps but got it working at the end of the day. Thank you a ton for this, I've been trying to get V4A to work ever since I got this phone. JamesDSP works and has been fine but I much prefer the UI of V4A.
Seems like the EQ isn't doing anything but the master limiter seems to increase the overall volume so that's a good sign.
Thanks again!
How about full dolby atmos (not talking about dolby digital Plus). Has somebody managed to get it work finally ?
Is it possible to install V4A with SELinux enforcing?

Pretty sure you need it set to permissive to install but then you can reset it back to enforcing after install is complete. That's what I did anyway

Yep. It certainly is. A lot of what people are recommending to do are extraneous and unnecessary.

Would you be so kind and post a link what version on v4a did you install?
One more question z before I screw up something
To install v4a:
1. Install Ainur Narsil in magisk,
2. reboot.
3. Install Audio Mod Library
3. Reboot
4. Install v4a
is it correct?

How I did it but still needed to modify the data/adb/modules/ViPER4Android/post-fs-data.sh upon subsequent tries after removing magisk and reinstalling.

Ok, made it work.
Thank you
Now I have another problem.
For some reason v4a doesn't see my presets in viper4android.
Any suggestions?

Anyone was able to run presets ?
For some reason my v4a can not see
presets
I copied presets to android/data folder and nothing. I noticed that v4a is not detecting my presets folders. Tried everything.

I have the same issue. Looks like viper has no permission to read data in the folder.

Yeap.... I have the same problem. V4a just doesn't see presets folders at all.
Hopefully someone smart will figure it out what is wrong.
