I cannot seem to restore my google account apps and setting on my new OP3. I am running the Android N developer beta on the 6P, but on my laptop my Google Dashboard clearly states there is a back up profile. I have tried restoring the OP3 via NFC from the 6P and just signing into my Google. No luck. I am ready to package this thing up and send it back. Help anyone?

I noticed on January 10, 2015, a new device was registered onto my Google account. The way I found out, was I was looking to install apps, and where you can limit reviews based on your device. I see mine listed (the retail Galaxy Note 4 for Verizon), and also a SAMSUNG-SM-N900A, listed as well. Upon looking at my devices on my Google account, it seems to be a T-Mobile - US Galaxy Note 3.
What is this? How did it happen? Have I been somehow hacked? I went ahead and removed the device from my list so it no longer appears, but in my settings, it is still listed.
Cha b ge your Google password to be on the safe side.
Change your password and I would recommend using 2 step verification.

In case you didn't know, the Note 7 unfortunately got recalled for a second time so I now am faced to choose a phone again and I am strongly considering the Pixel. However, I had a few questions that I cannot seem to find the answer to anywhere.
Regarding the camera:
- Does the Pixel have a flash for photos taken with the front camera?
When you take a picture on the Note 7 using the front camera, you see the screen turn a bright white to replicate a flash so if the Pixel had that it would be amazing.
- Does the Pixel have a live/motion photo setting which allows you to see the brief moments of what happened right before the picture was taken?
Regarding transferring data from an old device
- How would a Samsung user go about transferring data from their phone to the Pixel? Does the Pixel support Smartswitch?
Since I've been using Galaxy Notes for the past few years, I was able to backup data to my PC using their software, SmartSwitch, and then restoring the data on my new device. Since the Pixel is a non-Samsung device, I am not sure if SmartSwitch will be compatible with it. And since I have to return a defective Note 7 soon, I won't be able to transfer data from my Note 7 to the Pixel. I think the only option that I would have would be to transfer data from my PC to the Pixel.
If anybody would be able to answer either of my questions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you
If you keep all your contacts as Google contacts, photos in Googles photo app, and utilize Google Drive to backup your photos to the cloud, and have the play store set to backup and restore your apps... There's not much left.
Login and password info for each app....maybe?

I believe it comes with some switching software. Here's the link to the video where they explain how it'll work.

I'm wondering if anyone who installed the dev preview of 7.1.1 on the 2015 Nexuses tried setting up their new Pixel by copying data with a cable. I'm doing it with 7.0 on my N6P, but it doesn't appear to be different than the old proximity method that came out with M, that is, it doesn't copy a lot of stuff like downloads and app data. I was hoping that with N and with this new cable method finally one could seamlessly transfer from one phone to another, but it isn't the case here, so wondering if having 7.1.x on the old phone makes any difference.

I have 7.1.1 on my 5X. Can't get the initial setup/transfer to work whether I try to use the cable or cloud. "Google Play Services has stopped working" comes up just after I hit "copy" on the old phone, or when I select the 5X backup in the WiFi version, and basically brings me back to the beginning of the process. Not sure why it's happening, spent hours on the phone with Google support last night and didn't get anywhere, other than them offering me a replacement phone. That said, the support person couldn't even send me an RMA link that didn't give a "Internal Server Error" no matter what device or network I used... Anyway I doubt my particular issue is a 7.1.1 issue?
So I received my Pixel XL yesterday, ordered through Project Fi. Seemed like it would be really quick and easy to copy everything from my Nexus 5X (also on Project Fi) using the data cable. I followed the prompts on the phones, and when I pressed "Copy" on the old phone, the new phone would start the process and after a second or two, Google Play Services would crash on the Pixel and I would have to start over again. I tried using the cable, WiFi/cloud, network/cloud, factory resets, nothing worked. Play Services keeps crashing as soon as I initiate the transfer process. Spent hours on the phone with Google support last night, they really just told me to do everything I had already tried, then offered to send me a replacement phone. When they sent the email to initiate the RMA process, the link they sent me didn't even work haha (Internal Server Error, Error 500, no matter what device or WiFi/Network I used). Just not a great night for me and Google.
I was able to set up the phone fresh without transferring anything over, but now, as far as I can tell, I don't have the option to do the transfer. I contacted Project Fi support just now, they hadn't heard of this issue either. I did find one person who has the same issue, I'm not allowed to post links, but it was on NeoGAF on page 8 of a thread titled "Google Pixel (OT)" by user Matthew Gallant, if anyone is curious.
Anyway, wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or has any suggestions, or should I just get a replacement (assuming they can send me a working RMA URL)?
while im one of the few with no RMA waranting problems, i am wondering how many DID use the migration tool, and how many set up as new device. i have found in the past, copying the /0/data directory (internal storage for your goodies) i get nothing but problems. and it does seem this is what the Google "data transfer tool" seems to do, forcing me to have to cache/data wipe some apps. Gboard for example, as im typing this, this was an app i had issues with, and realized it was not the stock settings, showing that data had been pulled over. just wiped the app, and it is behaving as expected as far as i can see.
so, the core question, who here used the migration tool and has NO issues. or who has used the tool, and has issues with several, or some apps.
i am considering making a poll to get a feel for where some of the problems people are having may stem from.
this included fingerprint reading issues from devices that had fingerprint readers or even Bluetooth issues. i myself came from the N6 with no fingerprint data, and was on a rom before i did the migration. i expect to factory reset and start as new with no prev data to taint the device. as its cleaner than wiping each app one by one.
as it stands i have NO device breaking hardware issues, just the case where some apps are behaving buggy like Gboard, and voice texting (before i did an app wipe to its defaults)
I used it for the first time going from Pixel XL to Pixel 2 XL. Went quickly and everything is fine.
The only thing that didn't transfer over are APK files.

My experience exactly. I was pleased by how well it went.
i tried to use it, kept complaining about couldnt connect with cable i was using and that i should trying using the charging cable that came with the phone instead (i was using the orig samsung cable that came with the phone) i tried all other kinds of known good data cables that i had laying around as well. nothing seemed to work.
all contacts are in the cloud, transfered all my sms/mms with 'sms backup and restore' app, email is in the cloud, pictures/video is in the cloud, put a few documents on dropbox and reinstalled all apps myself. it didnt really take all that long.

Same...came from a Moto Droid Turbo and have nothing but praise for the Pixel 2 XL. Best phone I've ever used.
I used it coming from an OG Pixel XL. Everything worked perfectly.
I used it from the 6P to the 2XL, and it was amazing. Somehow I didn't even know that was possible, but I'm sure glad it is there. Being that it only transfers the apps data, not the APKs, it seems to be fairly efficient and not cause any issues (at least when I did it.)
I used it going to my Pixel XL last year, and my 2XL this year. It transferred more this time around than before. I had an issue with 1 or 2 apps I had to wipe data on to get them to work right, but nothing substantial.

I transferred from XL to XL 2 and everything went fine, same as previous statements with the apk files not transferred. Only issue I have noticed was Google fc once.
I used it twice. Once from my Nexus 6P to the P2XL, and again when I had to swap my first P2XL out for another (For some reason, my Fi pre-order somehow got fulfilled through the Google Store, so they couldn't activate Device Protection... and no, neither Fi nor I have any idea how that happened). Both times, everything worked just fine, but it didn't transfer the settings for every app. I always backup my "Internal Shared Storage" folder to my computer beforehand, and copying a few folders back took care of most of the app settings that were missed. I think all the rest were taken care of by logging into the app.
All phone logs, SMS/MMS history, voicemails, Wi-Fi passwords, desktops icons, etc. came back perfectly. Widgets were properly placed, but had to be reconfigured.
EDIT: One nice thing I forgot. In both cases, the old phone was to be factory-reset and shipped off, so by hooking up the USB-C cable, I was able to use the old device to start charging the new one, allowing me to jump right in on the transfer, without worrying about the out-of-the-box battery level of the new device. You do have to pay attention to which device is charging which though... but a quick tap on the notifications could swap that around if necessary.
I transferred from XL to XL 2 and everything worked surprisingly well, except text Messages. I use SMS Backup for the messages.
