I have an non rooted, official Tab Pro 12.2 on 5.1.1. with an 64Gb sandisk Ultra SDXC micro usb card. I use the sd for movies on holidays. A few weeks ago i suddenly couldn't delete or write any files anymore. Not even format the card in the Tab, on Windows Xp, Windows 10, or even Linux Mint. In other tablets or phones i get the message that the card is empty, but can't be formatted. When i take a picture, the image is stored on the sd, so it isn't broken. I just can't remove it anymore.
I tried several programs for formatting sd cards, but i get the message that the card is write protected.
There is an folder named .android_secure and it can't be removed. I googled and found out that this is folder is created by app2sd, but i never used this app. Also i never moved apps to the sd card, so i don't understand how this folder is created. By the way, the date of the folder is 1-1-1970. Very strange.
It's very easy to buy a new sd card, but what if this happens again and ruin my next sd?
Has anyone had this problem and perhaps has a solution.

When the sdcard goes read-only the card detected a major fault with the card and a protection mechanism will switch the card to read-only mode so you can get data off (hopefully), unfortunately the card is toast there is no way to revert the read-only/write protect mode, Sandisk has lifetime / 10 year warranty on most sdcards so just contact their support and they will ask for the serial number on the back of the card (use a camera or magnifier glass to read it), do the rma form and send it to them and they will send back a better brand new card usually a good model, if you have valuable data on the card you can snap the card in-half (since it is read-only you can't erase it), just make sure to note it with support ..
I have been through two sandisk cards (both 64gb), one went poof dead, then the other did what yours is doing can't delete/write/format but you can see all the files - sandisk replaced the card twice no issues, the last card they send it working great no issues.

Thanks for your advice!
I mailed Sandisk and they will sent me a new micro sd card. They know about the problem with some of there micro sd cards, so there was no problem with that at all.
Worth a try.?
This has happened to me several times on different occasions.... typically after I have deleted all the extra and hidden files and folders my phone apparently likes putting on my SD cards. When I get that message, I will right click C: drive, select properties, go to Hardware tab, highlight the storage device, then run the disk check on the tools tab. 9 out of 10 times it will scan and fix errors on the disk... when it does not.. I redo the whole process.. . lather... rinse... repeat

Hi all,
I just got a new Sandisk 1GB Mini SD for my Wizard. I put it in my phone and it was recognized immediately. I copied a few files across (my TomTom install and a few maps) and then finished the install. I had to soft-reboot to get TomTom to work - but after rebooting my card doesn't work. When the phone starts up it asks if I want to format the card. I tap yes and it goes away - but doesn't really do anything.
I have taken the Mini SD out of my phone and put it into the card reader that's in my laptop. Windows recognizes that it is a SD card and also prompts to format it - but when I try to format it as FAT or FAT32 it says it can't complete. I have tried doing it through DOS too, but it comes back as saying that there is a bad Track 0 and the card is unusable.
I'm struggling to believe that the card is now poked after just copying some files onto it. I'm hoping that it's just something to do with the file system that has dies somehow. Does anyone know how to reformat the card (either through my phone or Win XP) or how can I resurrect this sucker?
Thanks in advance!
try pocket mechanics
thanks rudegear. I tried pocket mechanics, but it doesn't even recognise the card. I believe that pocket mech will only work if my phone can see the card first. this isn't even happening. the phone obviously knows that there is a card in it, as it says that the expansion slot is in use, but it can't read the card at all. any other ideas?
sounds like you have a fake card. 128mb cards formated to show 1gb, you copy more than 128 they corrupt. this happened to me
okay. I've given up on this card and have sent it back. no more trying to ressurect the dead for me!
has the new card solved the prob? The problem Iam having is almost identical to yours. I purchased a 2gig mini sd card (bn) for my atom. When inserted into my laptop's integrated sd reader, it would recognise a card has been inserted but would not open the card (but the Atom recognised the card).
Thinking I have bought a faulty card, I sent it back to manufacturer. The seller tested and concluded there is nothing wrong with the card but sent me a new one.
I had the same trouble with the new card. Convinced the card was not faulty, I purchased a new card reader.
The firt day i connected the card into the reader. things were SMOOTHE! I was lovn life. The card was read instantaniously and i proceeded to fill the card with a hole heap of goodies (including tomtom).
I used up approx 100mb of stuff that day and ejected the card from reader and inserted in my atom. Data was read with no trouble on pda and pc.
I inserted the sd card back into card reader the following day and now it seems the data originally put on from the first 'contact' is now locked. I cannot delete nor add anything else to the card. Oh and before anyone asks: yes, the lock was and is in the UNLOCK position (i dont even use the lock).
So my next move now is to exchange my card reader with a simpler/single slot. I read somewhere that cardreaders/devices sometimes lock data (dont know how true it is but got no choice).
in summery:
buying an external card reader solved the initial issue of recognizing/reading sd card but created another problem of LOCKING the sd card.
Is anyone else having issues with large sd cards?
I solve the problem by inserting card to Digital Camera that use SD card.
it formatted without error.
Card Reader and other phones does not format it. I think because of file system.
hmm... I will try that. will keep you all posted.
I'm having some strange issues with my S3 and micro SD cards. I noticed any attempt to access one of the folders will force crash any app that tries.
Then I did a nandroid backup from TWRP recovery and when I rebooted the phone, it claimed that the card was empty or damaged.
So I connected the card to my computer to backup everything that was there. Windows did say it needed to be scanned for errors but it didn't find any errors. It was formatted as exFat so I could put larger than 4 GB files on it.
When I put it back in my S3 it wasn't detected at all. No error messages, it was just as if I hadn't put any card in. Under Storage settings, under mount external SD card it just says to insert a card.
What I've found since then is in order to get the S3 to recognize that there is a card I need to do a full format (either FAT32 or exFAT) on my computer. If I do a quick format, it still won't be recognized. I need to do a full format.
But then, if I unmount and connect to my computer, then eject from my computer and put it back in my S3 it isn't detected again and I have to do a full format again.
I thought maybe the card had become defective, but I'm seeing the exact same behaviour now with a different card. The first one I was using was a class 10 32 GB lexar card. The second one is a class 10 16 GB Adata card. Both do the same thing. After a full format on my computer, they are detected on the phone but after unmounting, mounting on my computer, not doing anything except ejecting it, they stop being detected by the S3.
I've even tried re-formatting the card in the phone but that doesn't change anything.
Anyone know what's going on here? Is the phone defective? I don't want to send the phone in for warranty repair except as a last resort as I suspect that would mean several weeks without a phone.
Thanks!
Hi this is my first time posting a question on here so I'm hoping I'm doing this correctly
I recently received a SanDisk Ultra 64GB MicroSDHC card to use in my AT&T Note II phone. When I inserted the external SD card into my phone, everything mounted correctly and functioned right. However, when I tried to transfer my pictures and music into to the external SD card from my internal SD card using the stock app My Files, it would say that everything moved to my external SD card, but when I checked it, nothing was in the external SD card and the files that i had moved from my internal SD card were gone. So I backed up all my files from the internal SD card to my laptop to make sure I don't lose files again.
Afterwards I tried all of these methods to get files to properly into the external SD card:
I tried connected the external SD card directly to my laptop using an adapter and moved the files there
I tried moving files to the external SD card while it was in my phone
I also tried using KIES and KIES Air to move files into my external SD card
The first two methods didn't even have files show in the external SD card. The third method, using KIES and KIES air had files in the external SD card but they were corrupted where I can open my picture and it's a icon of a man of some kind and my music files just wouldn't play.
So I just factor reset my phone hoping that this would fix this problem and I haven't tried moving files yet. I'm hoping that perhaps it was an app that was conflicting with the external SD card.
I know that my external SD card is not fake because it came in a legitimate package and I also ran a software (that I can't remember the name of) that puts in data in the external SD card until it fills up and reads the data to see how much actually went in.
Could anybody tell me what the problem is and how I can fix it? I can't go back to the store and exchange it because it was a gift and there's no receipt. Thank you so much for your help.

well seee if it works on other phone if not then sent it back to sandisk service center they dont need any proof of purchase just the sd card packet pic will do as proof as it comes with lifetime warranty , just sent them a mail and report if its faulty and they will ask u to send the sd card back to sandisk center and they will send u a new sd card :good:
if they ask for a sd card no just chk your sd card back it written over there and not on the package as the org number they need is available in sd card back

Ok
Have a Galaxy note 10.1 2014
No mods not rooted
I have a 64GB micro sd XC SanDisk ultra card.
It sees it and i can put files on it and read those files, but eventually i cant write to it anymore and then it says the sd card is empty but i see it still has the same amount of space used but cant see any files, didnt see any sd removed statements or anything. Still can see the files on my computer with a direct connection to the sd card but not through the tablet.
Thoughts?
I also sometimes get an "unfortunately, gallery has stopped" pop up box
I had the exact same problem, even if I formatted it lol. Had to be returned as defective. There is a tool on the sandisk website that will format the card in a specific way. Would not do mine though as goosed. Good way though to tell if your card is knackered.
I've an Samsung evo+ 256GB SD card formatted as internal storage in my HTC 10 for almost 2 years now.
2 months ago I decided to upgrade to a Samsung evo+ 256GB v2, with slightly better speeds. I simply cloned the old SD to the new one.
Everything was always fine, worked great till yesterday.
I had some weird stutters while playing music and then I noticed the UI was also getting stutterish.
Went to bed, charged my phone as I usually do. When I woke up and checked my mail the phone just froze and rebooted.
After reboot the phone told me the SD card was missing
I decided to shut down the phone and examine the SD card but the phone just got stuck shutting down, I had to force reboot and shutdown again.
I tested the SD by a full byte by byte read in Western Digital diagnostic tool for harddrives to see if my SD was broken, but it was fine, no errors.
I popped the SD back in my phone, started and the SD mounted fine, no issues so far.
Could the file system be corrupt? If it is, how do I fix it?
I could try and move the data to an external drive and reformat the SD, I've a USB 3 OTG cable. But I'm not sure how to do that either.
Will Android move the data for me automatically when removing the SD card as internal storage?
Stutters continued today unfortunately, especially when doing a SD benchmark.
I decided to use clonezilla and do a clone of the card to another one to see if that improves anything.
On the old SD I had 72MB/s read and 20MB/s write according to A1 SD bench
Internal storage 225MB/s read and 41MB/s write
On the cloned SD I have 74MB/s read and 19MB/s write
The difference is that the cloned SD is a Samsung evo+ 256GB v1 and the old one a Samsung evo+ 256GB v2
I don't get it though, doing a benchmark on a PC shows 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write.
I advice you to check media files. I had lived same problem. I found solution by chance . I attached sd card to my notebook to backup dcim and music folder. While copying the files, suddenly copy process stopped on a not special file. I removed the sd, re attached and deleted that file before continue to copy. When copying finished, i attached the sd card to phone... Whola... Without formatting or doing nothing extra the card started to work as expected
