Hey I'm a 1st to T-Mobile i'm testing it out before I switch all my lines from Verizon. The question I have is that both the Note II and the GS3 that I have seem to drop the Wifi calling feature randomly. I thought at 1st it may have been some sort of power saving option but it seems to happen in frequently. (Doesnt matter if I'm close to the Router or not)
Is this common? Or am I the only one that has had this happen?
Thanks for any input!

I'm not sure what you mean by turning the App off? When turning the WIFI calling app off does that not mean you are unable to use the feature?? LOL- I have to have this as I have zero reception at my home.
Thanks for letting me know!

This is happening to me as well.
@ scoob go to setting, more setting, deselect the wifi calling app and it should work for you my coverage at my place is between 0 and 1 bar so this should help

mine goes on and off on both my new note 2 and my wife's new galaxy s3. really aggravating. worse on my phone, when in wifi calling, it only answered calls like 1 out of every 10 times, otherwise they went to voicemail. I took the sim out of mine, then put it back in and pushed it in and out and in the holder a few times and now it seems to receive calls in wifi mode but still always in and out and error to connect and such.
My experience with Wifi-Calling has been nothing but troublesome. It's really not reliable at all, sometimes calls comes through sometimes don't.. and when it does come through I can hear the caller but caller cannot hear me. This is quite common problem with wifi-calling and i given up.
If you get even a 1bar of reception near by the window, I suggest calling T-Mobile and getting their Cel-Fi device (Free of charge but has to return when you leave T-Mobile). 1~2 bar by the window will give you full 4bar reception throughout the house on 4G. Only requirement is that you must be living in single house, can't ship out to house that are connected by or close by. I live in townhouse and I just told them I live in single house and got the device in 3 days. =)
Wi-Fi calling is a disaster. For me, incoming audio drops constantly, but the party I am calling can hear me fine. On other occasions, the call will just randomly drop. Came from a Sensation where Wi-Fi calling was perfect. There does not seem to be any resolution... I have spent hours talking to tech support and they have replaced the device with no improvement. I have also had my ISP out and they have verified that my connection is fine. I have even changed the router out... same issues.
With my wifi calling, as soon as I turn kt kn my bars at home would drop where I would hardly get any service. As soon as I turn wifi calling off I magically get bars. So I leave it off and now I get bars pretty much everywhere I go....almost

With wifi calling on, it's suppose to drop signal bars to nothing. You have to go by the wifi bars instead.
Wifi also greatly depends on your network conditions. Cause I have the same problem but it doesnt happen to me that often after some tweaking.
Wifi Issue
I have that problem quite a bit but the signal strength on my router is good. Yesterday i had my internet company reset the cable modem and my wifi problems have decreased a lot but it is still happing. It has to deal with the wifi certificate problems on the Note 2 (Samsung). It is the same problem that I had on the GS3.
Oh well

my internet is rock solid. only good thing about uverse service, yet this wifi calling is in and out and in and out all the time.

Uhh, that's the point of wifi calling, to make calls over WiFi and disable your cellular radio. If you turn on Wifi Calling, you should get a blue phone icon on the top left and your "bars" should drop to nothing as your phone turns off the cellular radio. You can still make/recieve calls/sms/mms.
I've been getting an ER01 error lately with invalid certificate, but it seems to be a T-Mobile backend problem? It happens, about 10% of the time and only on my school's network (I have a feeling, it might have to do with the sign in process there).Otherwise, it works well at my apartment.

i get that certificate problem at my house, not too much anymore, but I still see it. and the wifi calling does drop in and out at various times. not a huge deal for me, but the average person wouldn't deal with that.

I've been noticing more & more problems with my service in the last two months. I called T-Mobile to fix it and whatever they did seemed to only help a little. I get times where I get frequent ER01 errors with WiFi & duplicated text messages (same text message gets received by my phone 2-3 times) for an hour or two. I used to also get errors sending texts around that time, but that appears to have gotten better.
Someone else mentioned Uverse, and my WiFi calling problems are at home & work, both of which have AT&T for internet... When I switched from their DSL to Uverse I expected less problems, but got more.

Seems to be a problem that a lot of people are experiencing. Just did a quick Google search and some indication points to a possible T-Mobile back-end problem. I wonder if i call up T-Mobile and ask for wifi calling to be explicitly added to my plan if that'll change anything.
Ive had my note 2 now for about a month now and the phone itself has been great. During the first week I experienced horrible signal but that has all stopped recently. I now get 4g everywhere I go around my home and work.
But.. one problem persists. Missing missed call notifications and delayed voice mails. This has been going on since I got the phone and I though it was only a wifi calling bug until today.
Multiple people have called me and left a voice mail which I will only receive once I use my phone. Ie: text/make a call. No missed call notification shows up but I will receive texts and voicemails once I actively use my phone.
I have done tests with wifi calling where my phone would be charging for a few hours and a call would go straight to voicemail. Also pinging my phone yields a 1k+ms ping response and then normal 50ms which leads me to beleive the phone goes into some sort of sleep state and has to be actively on the network to receive any call or text. I thought it was just wifi calling but now its happening without being connected to wifi.
Does anyone have any information on this type of problem?

I had the issues you described with wifi calling. It was so unreliable that I stopped using it. On the regular cell connection I no longer miss calls.
I wish using regular cell was reliable as the coverage is great in my area. But after yesterday's problem I can't trust it anymore.
I'm back to using wifi calling and im using an app called wake lock to keep the wifi connected, as the normal no sleep when wifi setting doesn't work in the settings.
It has been 12 hours and the wifi calling icon hasn't disappeared. I've received emails and texts as well. Hopefully this can be a permanent at home solution. I wonder what causes the cell network to just drop and stay unconnected while the phones on lock though.

Are you using ant task killers or battery saving apps? They can turn off your data and so many other processes, they do more harm than good.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T889 using xda premium
I have no battery saving apps, all i use is the stock task manager for ending tasks.
UPDATE:
WiFi calling with wake lock seemed to work most of the day. I received many texts and calls from at least 5 different people over the coarse of the day. But then... I go in my garage and lose wifi signal and the phone doesn't connect to a tower and i miss someone trying to call me. Same deal.. no missed call notification and they said it just goes straight to VM without ringing. I write it off as not a big deal as long as the rest of my house wifi calling allows me to miss nothing.
I sleep for a few hours and i wake up and hit my lock screen. The screen flashes on and it shows the WiFi calling symbol.. then lags and flashes to it being gone. I then use my house phone to call it and of course.. no ringing.. straight to VM. I have also received no emails/texts during this time.
I open the battery usage and during the last 15 hours or so there are small increments of signal loss. The whole bar is yellow which isnt great but should still work. But there are small slivers missing completely, and they are identical to the WiFi usage as well. Both show the same 0 signal at the same time.
I'm at my wits end with this problem.. i have tried just about everything from factory reset, SIM reset, using WiFi calling on both my router bands, using settings to keep WiFi on when phones charging. The problem persists on 4g and WIFI. Currently I'm set to GSM only to test this issue using EDGE.
The odd thing is my brother has the same phone and although he reported a few missed calls via wifi calling, nothing as serious as my issue of several blocks of time with 0 signal at all.
I noticed the new update rolling out changes the baseband.. would this do anything to fix any issues with connectivity? Ive read numerous people with this issue using various phones/carriers and the only fix seemed to be getting a new phone number. I hope this isn't the case.
I think you might need a microcell
I'm not sure if that would really help. Like I said I have above average coverage at my house. I never had a problem with my vibrant and the other 2 lines dont have problems. This morning I flashed jedi x7 and I now have a 3g and a H+ icon. I notice that im 95% on 3g and it sporadically switches to H+ randomly for only a few seconds. Also as about 6 hours have past, my network signal in battery usage is a solid bar with no signal loss. Time will tell if that stays true.
One other thing of note, if I perform a speed test when it's on 3g.. I ping 1k+ but pull around 15mbit. When H+ is up before I start the test I ping under 100 and pull 15mbit. Perhaps the constant switching is causing me to disconnect from the tower for brief moments.

i have the tmobile version of the note 3. and when i make an outbound call while on wifi (wifi calling is off) it defaults to HD VOICE which has no ringing (only on some numbers tho, very strange) and it will have NO RINGING, almost as if its not dialing then someone will answer. Very annoying. So i have come to a conclusion that if i turn Wifi calling off, HD VOICE is gone and it WILL ring with those numbers that wouldn't before. But if i connect to wifi again then i get this issue. Is there a way to disable HD VOICE?
PS, i have SIM UNLOCKED the note 3 and have tested with att sim with same numbers and rings correctly whether or not on wifi, of course doesn't say HD VOICE tho
thanks a again

Anybody know how to fix this. I cant use wi-fi anymore because it turns on hd voice, grays out my network bar signal, and makes calls unintelligible. T-mobile had me disable "answer with voice" and wi-fi. She said this is a problem with wi-fi calling but I dont use that. I only had it set to use wi-fi if I left a good cellular area. That is off now too. Please help me fix this so I can at least use wi-fi again. By the way this happened suddenly on its own 2 days ago.
Did you ever resolve this?
I am having the exact same problem now.
Even though I have wifi calling turned off, if I have the phone connected to wifi it is using wifi for the calls.
Annoying as hell.

Anyone got updates on this? I just started getting bitten by this a couple months ago when I flashed from stock to DarthStalker (JB version not KK).
Any news about this?
HD voice
HD voice is set by the switch from the tower you are connected to, long story short if the backhaul from your tower is microwave and the person you are calling is on a tower that is Ethernet backhaul it won't sound right. Also if your in a Samsung owned market and the other person is in a ALU, pioneer, Ericson etc it won't sound right lastly the Samsung phones have 3 or more microphones on them for background and other noises to be muted so the over correction messes with HD calling and lastly wifi calling is using VoWifi and literally running a VPN from your ISP to T-Mobile so your bypassing the switch and hd voice isn't an option, so when you swap sim cards out the root system(boot straps and firmware for the motherboard is designed for t-mo switch and network and is wrote to look for t-mo) so the unlocked sim is just a software unlock to allow something else to be the read
---
I worked in the cellular telcom industry for years and HD calling is a nightmare, wifi calling is even worse because of e911 compliance and the fcc. I forgot to mention that if you have a phone case in like a loose fitting silicone sleeve type or the rubber shell on an old otterbox that's loose the vibration from your voice can cause static in the mic from the rubber vibrating by the charge port (old product known issue with noise cancelation on several phones)
---------- Post added at 04:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:22 AM ----------
I forgot to tell you that normally when you don't have the ringing when your calling out it is a network based issue.
It could be a nesting issue(where your phone is thinking its on a tower in the next town) so with the phone on pull the sim out(if you have to pull the sim power on wait 60 seconds then power off) then turn the phone off and reinstall the sim, an issue for the market your in, the network may think that your still using wifi calling and it never fully turned it off in the network( however by simply turning the switch off it won't disable it you have to update the emergency address and look below that and choose disable( if your software is newer the platform for wifi calling by Samsung is codenamed waterpolo and there is a crap ton if known issues with it) lastly if you phone has native and Samsung wifi calling (found on the GS6/note 5 so if you have it it would be by update only) you would have to totally reset the phone and have to-mo open a network trouble ticket for a tier 3 or higher to call you back and resolve
Just got a note 3 for tmo, currently my device is unrooted and fully stock. I noticed that my wifi being on, it works great but cell signal is near gone...sometimes even wont let a text get sent. as soon as i turn off wifi cell signal is perfect same as on my note 2 or that G2 i got rid of.
i noticed the following....
Wifi signal switching feature on or off, cell signal still is gone.
Wifi on, wifi calling on or off signal still suffers, in fact i even disabled wifi calling from the application manager for now. (never did like wifi calling)
Wifi on, make a phone call signal still stays low.
Wifi off, cell signal strong
Wifi off, make a call all is even better.
So, whats the deal? is there a fix? A search only came up with a thread about turning off the wifi switching thing in advanced features, but like i said it dont matter or work. any other search talks about wifi and it dropping and or about wifi calling dropping calls....
edit, i looked in the system setting, and noticed that the signal in my house right now says -90. turn wifi on, network says unknown from LTE, and sits at -90.
turn wifi off, network says LTE and signal still stayed at -90 (it did change a little but stayed at average of -90)
it seems as if the signal bars just dont show up with wifi on. like it cant walk and chew gum at the same time (cant show wifi bars and cellular signal bars at the same time)
what threw me off was when i couldnt send a text until i turned wifi off.
i also disabled wifi calling from my account level as well. didnt change anything.
do these phones need the sim that came in then box? my sim came from a note 2.
It is odd, but I have the same behavior. When I'm on WiFi, I have no bars for my mobile signal despite there being no change in the signal related parts of About Device->Status
So, no real answer, but you're not the only one seeing this.
Turn on Wi-Fi calling. Make a call to ur vm. End call. Go to setting click Wi-Fi calling and then connection preference. Then click prefer cell network. Wait 5 seconds then shut off Wi-Fi calling. Should be fixed

I have no idea why, but this worked. I already had the 'Prefer mobile network' option set and Wi-Fi calling disabled, but this little dance corrected the problem. Thanks for the tip!

amazing, i didnt make a call, all i did was turn wifi calling on, then off and all the sudden cell signal worked with wifi on. but for some reason, my phone app FC when i tried to look at the connection preferences. not that i care i dont use WIFI calling as it sounds like crap or is choppy for some reason. (well in the past it was) thanks! now i can actually use wifi!
I called someone the other day i had wifi on, and the person couldnt hear me half the time. next phone call was wifi off and everything worked perfectly. very odd bug, im shocked that it hasnt been corrected yet.

Only default text app (Hangouts or any from the Play Store can't) can send MMS and SMS through WIFI.
Yesterday I was able to see the HD voice icon when calling another T-Mobile person. However today it won't show up even though the other person see the icon on their end. Also noticed that sometimes when I call my phone switched from LTE to HSPA+. Anyone seeing this?

I think that stock Android doesn't play 100% with T-Mobile's network features. I have WiFi calling on and I have the Asus router from T-Mobile for WiFi calling and half the time the phone doesn't say "T-Mobile WiFi calling".
I pretty consistently get the HD badge when making calls, but I don't look every time I can either.
I will say this though, VoLTE seems to be playing nice for me and isn't draining the battery like it did on my S6 edge.
So I think it is just the software. To fix it, you can go to the "cellular network" and disabled the enhanced 4g voice then make a call then hang up then turn the enhanced 4g voice back on. Now the HD icon should return.
However even if the icon is not on, I noticed on my wife's phone it is still HD so it is just the software that is a bit screw up.
