Hi guys, I've googled high and low and I can't seem to find anything that I a)understand or b) feel is relevant to my situation.
I've read the sticky thread above, but I'm afraid I just don't get it
I bought a HTC on ebay, it arrived, I put my sim in and realised it was rooted. The phone doesn’t work on my network, I knew this when I bought it so I bought an unlock code but due to the root, I can’t seem to enter it, it just says no sim inserted.
Ideally I’d like to remove the root, I’m not a technophobe and learn pretty quickly, but I just don’t understand all these different versions of firmware etc.
I followed the unlockr guide and found out my CID is VODAP001 but the main-version is blank so I don’t know which roms or what have you to download.
I’d be happy leaving the rooting as it is if I could enter my unlock code, but I can’t figure out how to do this either. Is anyone able to help me? I don’t know what’s been done to the phone, the seller is ignoring my messages, I can’t return the phone as I (stupidly) missed the description where it stated the phone is rooted.
If it helps, it says im using cyanogenmod version 13.0.201xxxx and I've seen TWRP when booting to recovery mode etc. I've downloaded a few files, used an all in one mod or something from hasoon but as yet, the file system is unchanged.
I've seen something called sunshine which apparently unlocks to any network but as I've just forked out £100+ for the phone, I don't have the £25 the guides say it charges to unlock
Thank you in advance.

The usual problem ... first unlockr guide .. problem, come to XDA ...
You need non-rooted stock ROM to SIM unlocked with the unlock code.
To know which one ... you need to post "fastboot getvar all" result -
read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4
Hi, thanks for the help. here's the getvar results:

Assuming the bootloader is unlocked ...
Go to my thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Read all the 14 steps on post #1
Restore 4.19.161.3 non-rooted backup (post #2)
Install 4.19.161.3 stock recovery (post #4)
after reboot don't install any update yet - do your stuff with the unlock code that you have to SIM unlock.
I don't know how it is because there is no SIM locked device in my country
after successfully SIM unlocked, you can do the update if you want to
Thanks once again for the help, that's made everything a LOT clearer...
I'm still a little confused about Step 1 though, I already have TWRP on the phone, do I still need to do anything here?
Yes .. you need to install latest version TWRP 3.0.2-0 or the lowest version that you can install is 2.8.7.0
Your current one I believe the outdated 2.7.x.x - that's why your version-main is missing in getvar result and it may not work properly to restore the backup.
I'll try it shortly, just following step 1 right now and downloading updates through the app. Thank you for taking the time to help me, it's very much appreciated.
Im now back to stock software, thank you so much for all your help! Still strugglng with not being able to use unlock code, but I know you said youre not sure about that.
You sir, are a genius.
Edit: after android updates, it restarted itself into TTWRP... I guess I did something wrong?
Read again all steps ... you missed step 11
- install stock recovery
Read again what I wrote on post #4 above.

Maybe the unlock code is not compatible with device ?
S-Off won't do any good for you if the unlock code is wrong.
Unlock code doesn't depended on S-On or S-Off.

So this is the first time I've properly bricked my phone and cannot fix it whatsoever. I am constantly trying to fix my phone now for 6 hours and I am at the end of my tether. I have searched for hours and read countless tutorials. I can boot my phone into recovery and that's about it. I am from the UK and have an international HTC One unlocked bootloader. Can anyone at least point me in the right direction to a tutorial that is for me, every one I have read is regarding sprint/verizon/att and I'm just really stuck.
EDIT//
So now I have downloaded a restorable ROM and it has said to have worked, but now I cannot boot the ROM. It constantly boots into Bootloader mode.
EDIT 2//
So after 11 and a half hours I have FINALLY got this sorted! What happened was I had done a factory reset in the phones settings as I was selling it. I must have reseted all the OS as it wouldn't even switch on. What i done to fix this was restored a selection of a backup that was sent by a good friend that commented in this thread! While trying to restore that I kept getting the error "E: Cannot mount '/data'" .. To fix this I went into TWRP > Wipe > Advanced > Fix and Format and formatted the data partition to EXT1 then back to EXT4.. I then restored the back up again and then ran a CyanogenMod t zip and voila!

You can do an RUU. That will revert your phone to 100% stock out of the box (except bootloader unlock and S-OFF) I can't really link you at the moment as I'm using the XDA app but google it and find the thread for the international RUU and tutorial and that should get you back on track.

Do not re-lock your bootloader or attempt to go S-ON, there is a very high probability that S-ON could brick your phone. There is also no need or reason to do this in any case soo best to refrain from doing so.
Not so sure as to the risks of bootloader locking but ***DO NOT DO S-ON***

You can do an RUU with an unlocked bootloader/S-OFF. Could you please tell me how you re-locked it? Did you just set the **UNLOCKED** flag to **LOCKED** or did you do something else?

Ok lets try another approach, what happens when you enter recovery? Can you perhaps format everything and flash a clean ROM?

I will literally be willing to do anything for you to help me get this sorted! Please, please, please! When I go to into recovery and try to flash a ROM from the sd card it either flashes fine, then reboots straight into bootloader mode and everytime I reboot it or press the power button it continues to do this, or else it will give me the errror that it cannot mount data or cache.

I had Android Revolution installed, I sold the phone on eBay, went to my settings and clicked on Factory Reset to delete all my data. It rebooted to my HTC screen and it's been like that from 11am this morning. I've been in and out of my recovery trying to wipe things and factory reset things and no luck.
I'm having a problem being able to launch apps on my One M8 ATT... I Don't have any apps on my home page and ATT Ready2Go keeps crashing on me. Can someone give me a command line so I can launch SunShine on my device through ADB, that way I can S-Off and go back to a different ROM.
Why would you need s-off to install a different rom ?

The phone won't allow me to install anything through an RUU. Every RUU I've tried fails with a 155 Reason (Incorrect RUU) and shows "Loading zip file fail!" in the bootloader. A friend of mine has been working on it, got SunShine installed on the phone. But we want to run it to get the phone in to S-OFF. I'm not too savvy with ABD and that's what he's been using to talk to the phone. I also can't transfer items to the phone via USB even though I have drivers and MTP is running. The phone is a mess and I'm trying to avoid sending to HTC to restore it ($$$$$), or just telling my carrier that I "lost" it and pay the deductible to get a new one. Feels like I'm really close to fixing the phone, just not quite there yet.
If you know of a ROM I could try to flash, I'll give it a shot. I'm running out of options and time. Before I just get a new phone. My friend has helped me out a lot, but it's just not quite there yet.

You need to relock your bootloader in order to run an RUU while you are S-On.
In fastboot: fastboot oem lock
Then run the proper RUU again.
I'd link you to the proper RUU, but you haven't given enough info.
In fastboot: fastboot getvar all and post the results minus your IMEI and ser# (private information), unless you already know what the proper RUU to run is already.

The RUU you need can be found here.
Scroll down to the Manual System Update Instructions, and read them. The RUU download is at the end of the instructions.
You can unlock the bootloader again through HTCDev.com. After you are unlocked, flash TWRP from here in fastboot, then use that recovery to flash SuperSU from here.

I can NOT appreciate and thank you for your assistance in this! I went ahead and locked the bootloader and restored the original image with the RUU you linked me to, yesterday. Couldn't wait to try, haha. I had to sweet talk the HTC Live Chat person to tell me if I could use the RUU for the same software version as I had. Phone has been working like a champ. I'm gonna give it another day or two to settle in, do a few backups just in-case the flash doesn't go well.
I will definitely unlock the bootloader again and flash TWRP and SuperSU. But I imagine going S-OFF is just off the table right now since I'm a bit stripped of funds. I can afford it, haha, but my funds are already allocated towards adulting and such.
Again, THANK you for the support! This has been a learning experience.:good::good::good::good::good:
OK I'm going to apologise now if this seems long but I think it important I enter as much info as I can. I have a problem with my M8 which is it will either not connect to my network provider H3G (Three here in the UK) or keep dropping off the network. It started three weeks ago I had happily been on GPE converted using enewman17 thread and all had been fine until I started getting messages telling me either my sim had been removed OR sim card added please restart your device these were numerous times a day. Things I have tried, a new SIM has not worked, I flashed back to a stock sense rom which has not worked either I still get no signal when my sim is inserted. I currently have my sim in my old Nexus 4 which is working perfectly. Now my daughter also has a M8 which is also on three network and working perfectly but I notice when in hboot all her info radio, OS ( x.xx.771.x) is different to mine. I had thought flashing a radio might be the way to go but I'm struggling to find the right one AND the right guide to follow. I'm superid, s-off, unlocked bootloader (don't think root as it's sitting with a newly flashed stock sense on, I know I'd appreciate a little guidance if someone is willing to try and help this poor old duffer out.. Thank you for reading. I have attached an image of my daughter's working m8.
Bit confused here .. yours is the one with problem (as I understand) or your daughter's one (as you post screenshot).
From the screenshot, that's running lollipop rom and correct radio and other details.
What you explained above (if it is not hardware related), looks like firmware mismatch problem.
Can you post your problem device fastboot getvar all then we'll see what you can try.

First - edit your post to remove serial & imei no.
Second - you have two options :
a) Revert to H3G and see whether this will fix your problem
1- install the latest H3G Marshmallow 6.13.771.4 firmware
2- install latest TWRP
3- restore the 6.13.771.4 nandroid backup
You can get the files and how-to from my thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Note : Your device is S-Off, no need to relock bootloader
b) reinstall stock 6.12.401.4 with RUU (as your current firmware is 6.12.401.4)
You can get the file and how-to - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
Note : Note : Your device is S-Off, no need to relock bootloader
I suggest option 1 first to see whether the problem is fixed or not.
Usually flashing the firmware alone may fix your problem too.

OK following ALL your guide to the letter its working fine. BIG thanks friend !
Hi,
I have the exact same issue. Bought a PAYG similar from Three and not by network is detected with it. Getvar all shows exact same as lisamybeth.
I follwed the guide above but am stuck on the last hurdle... Part B returning to stick RUU. It says to install and run Htc_fastboot.exe but I'm on a mac and can't install. Exe files. I tried to fsstboot RUU without the Htc_ prerequisite but I get an error message. What can I try as a work around?

if you have troubles flashing the RUU through fastboot using PC
you can flash the RUU without PC by renaming the RUU to 0P6BIMG.zip and place it on your sd card ( formatted as Fat32 ) then reboot to bootloader ( Hboot ) it will ask you to update just follow the on screen instruction
Sent from my HTC M8 using XDA Labs
I was able to HTC_factboot using my work PC which fixed the issue! fantastic guide thank you!
Now question is can i re-flash TWRP and install HD-revolution ROM and still have Three network access?

What is the problem? Is it not booting into the ROM?
when there was boot.the phone at the startup gave (unfortunately------- has stopped)error and also no back key home key visible.
wiped the device. it was all same.
tried RUU it was the same
unlocked the boot loader
and flashed
stock recovery
twrp recovery
then tried nandroid backup restore
the restore was succefull but the phone wont reach startup (tried 1Hour max)
one peculiar thing i notice.earlier when it was booting to startup i was unable to copy anything to internal or external memory as it would say device not ready or disconnected.but i was able to browse the folders.
My opinion partition problem.Need others help to sort out
Note all the files i have mentioned is checked with md5

RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.154 0.4.exe
None of these will ever work on your device, in the s-on configuration. The RUUs containing "BrightstarUS" are for the US Developer's Edition. They won't run on your phone, as they will fail CID and MID checks (your device has CID and MID - can't change these with s-on).
The one labeled "Europe" is for an older version (Lollipop) than what is installed on the phone (Marshmallow). This will fail version check. By definition, you can't "downgrade" by RUU with s-on
with bootloader locked/unlocked state;
with s-on:
Failed
with s-on, its absolutely mandatory to have a locked or relocked bootloader to flash RUU. Unlocked bootloader will make it fail
Tried zip
0P6BIMG_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_HTC_Europe_6.12.401.4 _Radio_1.29.214500021.12G_20.72.4196t.01_release_4 64360_signed.zip
Failed
This is the correct RUU for your version, and should run with s-on. Saying it "Failed" with no other info, is not enough. Were their any error messages, other outputs, etc.? What commands did you use to run it? Were you in fastbootRUU mode?
I would suggest trying to run this again, with the bootloader RELOCKED, and you also need to use htc_fastboot, as the "generic" fastboot will not work with RUU.

Its best if you posted the solution, and what the mistake was. Useful for those helping (to see whether we sent you on the right path), as well as anyone else reading which may have the same or similar issue.
No mistake is that silly when it comes to these devices. Its often just specific knowledge that was missing, or a detail you didn't catch before (which is an honest mistake, either way).
I was following some tutorial and I decided to 'Relock' my bootloader. So I didn't that but then a flag came up underneath it saying "Security Concerns" or something like that. Then using fastboot/ADB I got it to the screen with just the grey HTC text and then I tried to flash the RUU over to the device but I got some error 41 saying the model id check failed. From there I discovered I'm stuck in a bootloop...I can't get into TWRP or boot the phone up at all...Just keeps going back to fastboot. I can't reset or do anything. Please help me get out of this mess and then hopefully help me unroot it!
The CID is: telus001
The version main: 6.13.661.9
The Model ID: OP6B16000
And it is S-ON
Your post is a bit confusing to follow. I'll need some clarification before I can properly help. See my comments below in red font, and try to address them as best you can:

I was following some tutorial and I decided to 'Relock' my bootloader. So I didn't that Don't know what that last bit means, I think you left out a word(s). Did you attempt to relock the bootloader or not? If so, was it successful, or did you have errors? Most importantly, on the bootloader screen, does it say the bootloader is LOCKED, UNLOCKED or RELOCKED? My advice is if its unlocked, to leave it that way (more on this later)
Then using fastboot/ADB I got it to the screen with just the grey HTC text and then I tried to flash the RUU over to the device but I got some error 41 saying the model id check failed. I don't your version M8 (Telus) has an RUU. The RUU must match your version carrier ID (CID) and model ID (MID) or it will fail. Normally, I'd ask which version number RUU you tried (there are dozens of different RUUs). But in your case, it doesn't really matter, as I don't think there are any RUUs which will work for you.
From there I discovered I'm stuck in a bootloop...I can't get into TWRP or boot the phone up at all...Just keeps going back to fastboot. I can't reset or do anything. Please help me get out of this mess and then hopefully help me unroot it!
How exactly to proceed depends on whether the bootloader is presently UNLOCKED or not. If its locked, no boot (no OS) is the expected result, as it expects the RUU to be run. My advice would be to unlock the bootloader (if its relocked), flash TWRP, then see if you can then boot into TWRP. From there, restore a stock backup.

Also, please do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number) so we can see more info about the device.

Yes sorry about the confusing post, I was running on little sleep. I did succeed in relocking my bootloader and it now reads "***RELOCKED***."
Being that it is relocked could you give me a step by step on how to unlock it and flash TWRP as you mentioned in the ending of your post. Your response gives me hope so thank you so much!

You can unlock the bootloader again, either by using fastboot command and the unlock bin code you originally used to unlock it. Otherwise, just go through the process again on HTCDev.com, and get a new bin code.
From there, flash TWRP, and then restore the 6.13.661.9 stock TWRP backup using the instructions and files found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Only need to do through Step 10, then reboot to OS. No need to restore stock recovery, as there are no more OTA updates for this phone.
