Heat - OnePlus 3 Real Life Review

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the OnePlus 3 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

This phone does incredibly well with heat. Whereas other S820 devices I've used like the S7, G5, and 10 get noticeable, and uncomfortably hot after watching 10 minutes of video, the 1+3 gets barely warm. It's really really really good with heat!

but my phone got warmer today when it was in pocket and i was not using it while I was in underground railway with mobile data and location turned on. Is my device should be reported to 1+3 care or to be exchanged!!

Does your phone warm while charging it? Mine does, but I see some people saying it stays cold during charging.
And after some use of camera it does get hot on top of the screen and back. Is that normal?
And one game I tried, it got very warm, same with some minutes of camera. Same for you?

I don't own an OP3 yet (damn you shipping time ), but
I can tell you that those scenarios are perfectly normal, every phone heats up a lot when using camera, charging & gaming.
the people who said their phone stayed cool while charging probably werent quick charging with the dash charger

It's a lot lot better than my 6P did. But I just wanted to be sure.
Let me know after you get the phone please.

It's going to take a loooong time unfortunately haha, they say it will arrive approx. 3rd July

I have updated my phone to Oxygen 3.1.2. I have been experiencing heating issue around the camera area.
Temperature reading screenshots from CPU-Z have been attached.

Around 45 it is normal i suppose.

I haven't felt mine hot at all. Even while quick charging on the dash charger. OnePlus finally got it right.

LOL 45 is ice cold !!! my lg g2 used to heat upto 75*C ! that is hot ! my op3 is always in 40-60s max chill ur device is just fine

I am getting similar effects, becomes hot at times when I'm walking around with it in my pocket. The power consumption also seems to be worse when I carry it in my pocket.
I have a theory about it being because the fingerprint scanner is being triggered, but I haven't done any kind of testing yet, so please keep in mind it is only a theory.

Yeah.. that's an issue that's been hoggin OP2 and now OP3. I think OP Devs will include a fix to check proximity sensor before unlock or have a 'pocket mode', perhaps.
For the time being, keep the phone in your pocket such that the screen faces outside.

Haha, I know 45 looks cold compared to 75C. But hey, even I had a Note 4 which would go up to 75C very EASILY. CPU Temp app even showed 88C (seems slightly inaccurate tho).
But the thing is, even though the temp reads only 45-48C, it feels really HOT!
I hope the replacement one will be better.

That is weird indeed, mine only got hot during first installation of apps and for the 3.1.2 update, nothing after that at all. Right now I'm playing skydforce reloaded and the phone is shockingly cold. Just a tad warm

My device acted in a weird way. Sometimes it stays only slightly warm while gaming and sometimes it gets warm only when browsing on Chrome.
Though while charging and using, it gets really hot (which shouldn't happen, according to others).

Charging and using will always result in heat! One plus did a good job reducing it but it will heat up a bit.

I know. But if it heats as much as any other normal QC device, then what's so special about Dash Charge (excluding the faster charge)?

My older device was lg g2 and man that is what I recall being hot..i couldn't hold it in hand while charging and using WhatsApp. This is far better with the one plus 3, so I guess it's working? I don't know... XDA portal has a post on this explaining the whole thing, and it works according to them. Maybe it's your charger/device issue?

Nokia CR-200 Wireless/NFC Car Mount

So I've been looking at these mounts and am on the fence about it. Costs a bit more than you would usually drop on a mount ($70-$100), but reviews of it are quite amazing. The sticky/suction pad is apparently really good, and the arms are stable and have a smooth release. On top of that it has a built in NFC chip. Now the Wireless Charging is where i get a little iffy. This device puts out 750mA. Comparitively the Nexus 4 charging orb puts out 1,000mA. I also have read in various places that some of Nokia's wireless chargers have a cycle issue where the device charges/stops/charges/stops. This effect might be visible on a Nexus 4 using this charger at this video (53seconds). Anyone have one they can test, or have recommendations to a similar mount?
I've read a lot of reviews about a critical part breaking easily.
Sent from my SGS3.
So, did anyone tried it? Does it work with Nexus 5?
From the info that i could dig, the nexus 4 does not work, probably because the location of the charging coil.

From what I've read and researched, the problem wasn't with Nokia's chargers but the first versions of the N4, later revisions worked fine.

When you put a Nexus 5 in the Nokia CR 200 it initially shows charging. Some time later (5, 10 ,30 seconds, maybe a few minutes - it seems to vary) it will stop charging. If you leave the phone in the dock, it will intermittently charge.
In my test over a couple of hours, the phone discharges pretty fast.
My conclusion is that it's useless as a charger for the Nexus 5.
If anyone has a workaround, I'd love to know, as the CR 200 is an otherwise sturdy bit of kit and I'm not sure what QI Wireless alternatives are available.

Thanks for letting us know. I've been actively seeking a qi car mount with nfc and this one was the prime choice aside from building my own. I wonder if it has to do with the bottom piece that sticks out for holding your phone in portrait mode, maybe the qi coils just aren't close enough together.
Nokia CR 200 works with Nexus 5 without any problems.
I received the Nokia cr 200 from Amazon yesterday and can confidently say it works brilliant. I haven't got any problems as mentioned in this thread. Just place the phone in the charger and the light at the bottom goes green and charged as it should. NFC is OK but got to know where the NFC chip is at the back of Nexus 5. I used the Google maps navigation and BT music streaming to my ford sony dab unit at the same time for about 50mins and the battery percentage just stays at the same level as before putting on charge. With BT music streaming it actually charges as the screen is switched off I guess. Its a good quality car mount but he clip is not the strongest I would say. Suction is absolutely fine as it has a stickiness to the suction. I don't know what app I got to use to check the charge voltage etc. Pls let me know if u want to know any details. But it works as it should very happy.
Out of curiousity, if NFC is so important, why not just buy an NFC sticker and slap it on there? Is it because it wouldn't look as cool?

have a look at what "OWL" has to offer...I ordered One....we'll See what this thing can Do.
More of a note to myself so I can find the thread again, but also just ordered one. Have a long car journey next week so should be able to give it a good run in, if it arrives in time.
Amazon seem to be doing it for £54 which seemed to be the cheapest outside of ebay
So it arrived today from Amazon and have had a bit of a play
Initial thoughts is that it is quite sturdy and looks good. Did the shake test and it did not come away, however a point of note is that it seems to grip but give it another squeeze to make it go a couple more notches in which kept the back flush with the charging plate. Just squeezing the grips until it makes contact won't hold it firmly in place and you get movement like on the Youtube review.
I've connected it to my bench supply as I'm at work. With the screen off/no GPS running its charges from 72% to 100% in just over an hour. The screen seems warm to touch and the back hotter which was expected. I've not had it been or connect/disconnect charging as mentioned in some reviews but I stress that this is on my desk at work.
Tonight drive home is about 40 min so will run TomTom and see if there is any power drop and tomorrow I have a 200 mile round trip so I can get some good testing done then as well. I'm hoping I will see the battery stay at the same level as when it was connected.
Does anyone have any suggestions of a launcher tailored to cars (car mode)?
Hi More testing done and I'm impressed so far.
Setting back home last night, I set TomTom up, the Settings of the phone was
GPS - Device Only
Automatic Backlight
TomTom in night mode
The battery at the start was 66% and at the end of the 2 1/2 hour journey it grew to 79%. So the phone charged while the screen was on and was using GPS.
Now admittedly this was not during the day, I did not have time to check the battery on the journey to the destination, however I did not notice any really drop in the battery from the icon. However halfway through the journey I noticed that the battery was not charging as I was rushing when I placed the phone in the cradle it was not fully flush with the back plate and/or I did not squeeze the clips that would hold it in place securely.
I need more testing but I think using this would be fine, potentially if you had full backlight and GPS running with TomTom in day mode I guess there may be a drop in the battery, but not much.

I'm sorry but I do not have or use a case. If someone would like to send one to me for a few days I'm more than happy to test.
Next week when I have a chance I will attach it to my bench supply and do some testing at different levels of brightness and more than happy to test with bumpers/cases if people like to send them
I'm rather surprised by those of you getting it to charge, mine wouldn't put through enough charge when GPS, screen on and streaming music.

[Q] UK D855 model overheating?

Hi.
I've had the D855 model from 3UK since Thursday I am noticing that the phone gets very hot at the top on the back around the camera and button area. This is not even through particularly heavy use either. I've not ran games or watched any video on it yet. Whilst typing this post for example with no other apps open I can feel this area is really hot.
I've had other phones that have gotten warm after gaming etc. But this is bloody ridiculous
I have also just switched to ART & after the phone rebooted there was 200 apps to optimise & the handset was burning up.
Doesn't seem to be coming from the battery though which seems to be lower down.
Anyone else had this problem?
I haven't had this issue at all, but I haven't loaded it up with a bunch of stuff yet. It sounds like you have a runaway program of some sort. I have used my phone for very long periods of time without interruption and haven't experienced any heat that's more than my Note 3. I'd unload everything and add things one at a time, or check your memory usage and see if you have anything that's taking far more than it should.
My phone gets warm in that area but nothing that has concerned me yet, but it's usually when I have had the screen on for a lengthy period of time.
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
brightness set at ?
I've not really loaded it up with apps. Just google stuff, bbci player, Chromecast (not working) Im gonna try removing stuff & see if it makes any diference .Screen brightness is set to 40% auto brightness ticked.
Is there a recommended app to monitor rogue apps or wakelocks?
I've also just had it charging for about 2 hours on the official plug & its red hot again.

BetterBatteryStats is good to monitor wakelocks ect..... debloating you're phone should help a bit too, I made a list of things i've done away with if it helps you
Find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2800293
sure there will be more than that that can be removed, hopefully others will test and contribute soon It should help you get a good start tho. Good Luck
Same issue but with US T-Mobile version

Hello, I am having exactly the same issues you described. It happens just out of the blue. The phone starts getting superhot until the battery is drained. If I try to charge it, it does not get charged. It has happened to me randomly.
Did you find the cause for your troubles?

I've had this exact issue too ... and for those wondering just how hot it gets, it's in the rough area of "wtf" degrees. I've lost 85% of my battery in 3 hours. It normally happens when I'm not charging and on WiFi, but what I've noticed is that the 3G/4G/LTE (whatever radio connection I have at the time) starts turning on. Now if it was an App misbehaving, I doubt an App would have the ability to bypass WiFi and use the data connection.
I'm about to do a full wipe and see if that fixes it.

... and as I was writing this post, I noticed the damn thing rebooting itself. LG makes great hardware, but their software just sucks. Why won't they unlock the damn bootloaders so I can put CMMod on it or something that doesn't suck?
Overheating
im having the same issue its getting hot for no reason did you fix this issue
---------- Post added at 04:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:40 PM ----------
did you comeup with any fix cause i'm sick and tired of this issue
I've had this twice both caused by different ota updates. A full wipe and install fixed for me. Now I'm in 10m, no over heating and better life is much much better
To further my last comment, if you've hardly got anything installed, then do a quick backup and then install something like 10m (which world perfectly for me) and do a full flash wiping everything.
If I didn't do that, then it got so hot then I couldn't keep the phone in my pocket and had to turn it off !! The heat comes from very close to the volume buttons, and it worried me how hot it was getting.
Mine is burning up in use or on charge, i just checked temps with cpu z and temps were at 81c, 79c, 75,c
81c, etc etcvery warm indeed, yes i have a lot of apps installed and i did have a few running at the time but Jeezz this thing is like a portable radiator, i have a case on it with the quick circle cover but it's the slim model that replaces the rear part of the original case so not packed inside extra plastics, ive never had such a hot phone.
I have tried a few things to try and tackle the problems but with no joy, i'm also constantly running out of space on the internal memory despite moving all the movable apps to Ex SD card, my phone is routed and running fulmics 5.1 rom
Same here, using D855 from Hong Kong, I have already done a factory reset/wipe.
Unmounting the SD card does help a bit in my case, still, it does not solve the problem.
As long as I turn on the screen and make some touches, it will start overheating for no reason.
Same for me. When I watch 3d sbs 180 videos, after around 25 mins the phone has given a warning and then shortly afterwards shut itself down.
I replaced the circle case with a more common style back cover that I bought from aliexpress and put a new battery into it, but the problem remains.
10M is an earlier android built from 2014, right? Will the problem be solved if downgrading? I wouldn´t mind really.
Thanks

So, I´ve been trying to downgrade using LGUP. The new version of this keeps telling me that my phone is unknown, and old version gives an error after 4%.
On some of the pages I found about how to do it, it´s saying that I need to change the LGE port to 41 in Windows. When doing that, my windows (10) freezes and I have to reset the computer.
Any ideas about what I may be doing wrong or suggestions to other methods?
Thanks

Allright, I´ve done it!
I used the old 2014 LGupgrader, but instead of running it via a network mounted drive, as I´d done it up till this point, I did it directly from C:/Temp. This was the key to success for me. I had it stuck for a couple of mins at 9 %, but it suddenly continued. This may have to do with the available internal mem. Some ppl say there should be 2 GB free, but I had only 1.51 GB free.
Temp is now 12 C less than before at similar operations.
The excessive heat has been reported as an issue across all models of the G3. The best solution is to use a thermal pad on the SoC. That helps spread the heat to the metal chassis, reducing your temps from 10-15 degrees Celcius. Get any 0.5mm thick thermal pad, cut it down to 14x14mm, clean both the SoC and the surface on the chassis with alcohol, apply pad and be sure to tighten screws as much as possible without stripping. I've been using this mod on both of my G3's for almost 2 years, and it does not void your warranty. Good luck!

Do you have a link to such a thermal pad and maybe a link to a vid showing how it´s done?
I was a bit too quick saying that my problems are now solved. I still get much nicer temperature, but VR videos skip frames alot, where they´d go smooth before. I´m wondering if Lollipop is throttled so it won´t get too hot, and does not have the power to play the vids, where Marshmallow pushes the hardware to the max, and then it gets hot.
Would anyone disagree with this?
Also, when did the overheating get introduced? If it´s not there in 10m, maybe there´s a build closer to Marshmallow that will let the hardware work a bit more, without heating too much up.
Ok, I found a pretty decent solution:

The part about amending the High Temperature Property OFF setting seemed to do the trick. Now VR vids play more smoothly and though it - obviously - gets hotter, it won´t get as hot as with Marshmallow.
With Marshmallow I´d get a warning at 57 C, and then it´d shot down a few mins later. Now, after about the same amount of time using the phone with a VR vid, it shows 49 C, which is acceptable.

Do you have a link to such a thermal pad and maybe a link to a vid showing how it´s done?

Use this video for disassembly.
And this is an example of a thermal pad you can use.
The heat issue is a hardware design flaw. The issue can be minimized with software, but the only way to truly solve it is a thermal pad or some other way to allow the heat to escape faster. It's easy to do, just take your time and use the right tools.

Allright, thanks. Maybe a dumb q, but how do I recognize the SoC?

Overheat When Shooting Video

I have the stock T-Mobile US version with plastic back. I have had it for about three weeks now. I have not noticed any heat issues before today, except when making phone calls using Google Hangouts. When I do that, the screen gets so hot I can't let it touch my ear.
Today I was using the phone to shoot video for the first time (I have used it for photos with no issues). The temperature outside was about 90F. After about four or five minutes, I noticed the phone getting pretty hot (like when using Hangouts). A couple of minutes later, the phone shut down.
I wasn't looking at the screen at the time, so I did not see any warning message. I turned it back on, and after several minutes, began shooting again. Again it got hot, and this time I saw a message informing me that the phone should be turned off to avoid damage from overheating. I stopped shooting and shut off the screen for several mins. The phone began to cool down.
I was using it to film a local event, so I kept shooting for a few mins and letting it rest for a few mins. I got the message two more times. Both front and back got very hot.
I do not have an app like cpu-z installed to monitor temps (maybe someone can suggest one?), because I was not aware I would be having this heat issue.
Before someone suggests I turn apps off (like GPS), or rants about "what did you expect in 90 degree heat, let me just say that LG has marketed the crap out of this phones camera and battery life, and I would expect to be able to use it without it being crippled. Now, if the outside temp was say, 115F or 20 F, then I might expect to have issues. But 90F really isn't that hot.
I chose this phone over the Samsung S6 and the HTC M9 mostly for the camera. It does me no good if I have to shut it down after five minutes of use. I'm going to do more testing over the next few days, but if it continues to happen I will try exchanging it at T-Mobile.
If anyone can suggest some camera tests I'm all ears. Also, if anyone has had this issue please share.
Thanks.

Well, so about how many continuous minutes of video recording were you doing? And what resolution? 4k?
None of my phones will overheat to the point of shutting down while recording 1080p, even when I use them for long multi-hour stretches as dashcams during roadtrips. If the G4 can't record video continuously in 1080p I really want to know.
The G4 doesn't show you whether you're shooting 720, 1080, or 4k. It only has dumb settings, HD, FHD, UHD (I can speculate what the f & u stand for). I used only HD.
Keep in mind this was only one instance, and only one phone. Don't assume the entire line can't shoot video based on my experience. I'm trying to determine whether it's an issue with my phone or with the model.
My longest video was only 5:14, however, I paused it for a few mins without stopping it. Perhaps it continues to produce heat while paused, though we're still only talking about 10 or 15 mins total.

So I just did a test. 20 mins of uhd and 20 of fhd. Granted in doors in the 70s in here. Over 90 degrees outside. It never once shut off. It does get extremely hot though.

If you Feel up to it, would you mind doing the same test on another day, but outside when it's closer to 90? I'll try it indoors, then outdoors again.

It's over 90 outside right now. That's why I'm inside . But if I happen to be outside in that temperature I'll give it a shot.
I know. Well, like I said, I was shooting an event. Otherwise I may never have found this out.

I was shooting video today and at about the 30 minute mark, I got a warning message saying the phone was getting to hot. It was 70f out and Google play music was streaming to Bluetooth.

Yes. But it is my opinion that I should not have to turn off processes that are considered "normal" in 2015. I'm fairly certain if I turn the phone off, it won't overheat.
So someone got the overheat warning with an ambient temp of 70? That's not a good sign.

Would be interesting if you could try using some other video recording app besides the stock one. Perhaps the stock app is garbage and is overly heating up the CPU. Or maybe not.

I see what you did there
As far as the usage I 100% agree, users should not be turning features off to keep the device from overheating. I had my first G4 heat up so much that all of the video and photos I had a pinkish hue in the middle of photos and videos I took until the phone cooled. Never had an actual overheat issue. That being said, if you can find a high end android phone that you can shoot video, play Bluetooth audio, and have location enabled at the same time and not have it overheat please tell me. I will sell my G4 and that phone. And I'm not being sarcastic, the heat issues with current flagships is getting annoying.

Sorry, maybe I jumped the shark with that response. But I have read many threads with replies by people suggesting you turn off this or that. WTF? Why did they buy that particular model phone in the first place?
Personally, I have no need to play audio (through Bluetooth or any other method), but I'm not filming music videos. I'll try not to get too upset unless I confirm all G4's overheat while shooting more than 5 minutes of video (including while paused).

20 mins of UHD video??? G4 is supposed to have a 5-minute limit for UHD. Who is exaggerating then - you or Internet tests?

You're right it does. I kept hitting start after 5 minutes. I took pictures (including the stopping after 5 minutes message), but then decided it wasn't needed. But here you go to verify.

Just did it again today at about the 45min mark. 75f outside. gps, bluetooth, video recording. It actually got so hot it shut the phone off this time. The screen and the battery cover were very hot to the touch. Such a shame. I have a replacement coming and will see how this one does. I know it isn't the battery as I have 2 and this isn't the same battery as yesterday.
Keep us updated. I have my eye on the G4 to replace my current phone, but do a lot of video recording...
Frigidazzi, your photo's are a bit blurry. Did your recordings actually stop after 5 minutes, or did they pause? Iow, did you end up with 4 clips or one big clip?
also, am I understanding that you immediately continued recording after the phone stopped\paused, and no damage occurred?

75 F? Wow. That's not good.
I don't remember if I mentioned this, but my incident yesterday was with a clip-on cover on the phone. I wouldn't call it a full case, maybe a half case. It snaps on the back of the phone and protects against scratches, but not drops. Maybe that was enough to cause it to overheat though.
Today I received one of those "iStabilizer" clips that allow you to attach the phone to a standard tripod, so I did some tests.
Indoors (temp 75F), cover on, I shot several minutes of 720p, pausing for five or more minutes at a time. It remained in record mode over 20 minutes. The screen did get very hot to the touch, much hotter and I would not have been able to touch it. Other than that it seemed ok.
Outside: Cover OFF. The temp was 89F. I let it record for 14 mins in direct sunlight.
I then paused it for almost 20 mins. Again, it got very hot, but no warning about overheating.
I will have to repeat this outside test with that cover on. Maybe I'll have to develop a habit of removing the cover to shoot video.

If it's overheating during video (I was indoors, 70 degrees, 9 minutes of FHD video when I got the 'overheating and shutting down' message) then it's defective. I already have my replacement and I no longer have the issue.
I also had the issue of the white square flickering in occasionally when playing games, that's gone too. I'm guessing the two are related.
I also notice it doesn't heat up nearly so much when playing games.
So like I said, if you're getting that warning it's likely a defective unit. Get it replaced is my recommendation.

Do you regret buying the S6 Edge+?

I bought this phone about a week ago coming from an iPhone 6 (I jump often between android/iOS) and I really regret it at the moment. First of all, battery life is HORRIBLE! I'm waking up with a full charge every morning, and after only waking the phone up a few times over 8 hours, I get back home with about 65% battery life when the phone hasn't even been stressed at all!
Touchscreen not functioning if you tap directly on one of the edges, so if you have a button or a link or something else to click on and this click-button is out on the edge it often wont register the tap, but if you however slide your finger out to the edge, the sensor will pick it up all the way.
I know this probably is so that you don't accidentally touch the screen while holding the phone, but I paid 8000 SEK (852 EUR) for this phone, I'm expecting things like this to not downgrade the touchscreen-functionality.
I've had random freezes after waking up the device to lock screen, making me wait about a minute before it "releases" or until i restart the phone.
I could go on with a few more things but I'm not here to bore you, and please don't get me wrong. It's a beast phone with a beautiful screen and design, which is why I bought it. It's just that the issues in this phone is to compare with android phones a few years ago.
Please tell me what you think if you read all this
Dont regret it in the slightest
100% agree with you mate. I have the same battery life issues and find the screen to be it responsive, especially when using Swiftkey or fleksy.
I am considering switching to the 6P or even just the 6.
I have to admit though that the camera is outstanding!
The sleeping freeze bug is known and seems to be resolved in the upcoming OTA update that is now making its way to the various countries.. For the rest I can only say that you either have a defective device (swap it for a new one) or a rogue app (do a hard reset en reinstall until you find the culprit app). Oh, and go through your settings and fine-tune battery usage by switching off functions that are not key to your way of using the phone...

I have no issues what so ever. I easily get 6-7h SoT regularly and I don't even do anything to save battery - I just disabled some apps using the stock app manager.
Idle drain could be a bit better, I lose about 5-7% over night (8-10 hours), but you can charge it back in like 10 mins, so I don't really mind.
While the Edge+ is the sexiest phone I have ever had, I do regret getting it.
--Battery life is below average
--Fingerprint scanner is hit or miss. TouchID is a billion times better
--Not much app/utilities to take advantage of the edges
--Not much ROM development
--Poor quality (my charging port died first month)
--The glare on the edges
--Super slippery without cases
--Not much available cases
--Not much available quality tempered glass screen protector
--No Samsung Pay if Knox is tripped/rooted
--Fast Charging/Quick Charger 2.0 sometimes work and don't
--Daily lags/stutters
--Speaker not very loud
--Proximity sensor hit or miss
--To use the edge cool notification, phone needs to be faced down. Who puts their phone face down? WTF Samsung
--Wireless charging is slow, and make the phone really hot.
--Camera: (1) in low light, it sucks (2) have hard time focus on moving objects
--Screen not as touch sensitive
--Screen not as bright out door
--Phone depreciates in value so fast.
I say it all the time it's not the phone it's the apps. The programmers are not optimizing the apps correctly. I also blame user error. Also the lack of knowledge about how to properly turn off unnecessary syncing. I have none of the problems said here except slow charge and that is due to the wireless charger not being the fast charge version.
I've had none of the bugs/problems some people describe I came from the iPhone 6 plus and I don't regret it at all! Only initial disappointment was the battery life. But a couple of weeks ago I remembered that I had got a 1 years McAffee subscription when I bought the phone so I though since its free I'll download and try it. Since I engaged the battery optimizer setting in the app I've been getting stellar battery life. On for 8 to 9 hours SOT some days. And that's with location, sync etc still on. As far as I can see its controlling of how often the sync can occur seems to be making the difference. So I would recommend this or a similar app. I don't know if using McAfee free app without the subscription will have battery optimizer available though.

I've had the phone a week. A few days into it, my feeling was the same - highly frustrated.
I had to re-initialise twice to get rid of the reboot issues.
The keyboard is affected by the curved screen.
I have the Note4 and the first few days I was constantly reaching for it.
It's changed completely. The phone has settled down. Using the keyboard is still hit or miss however;
The screen is beautiful
The phone is beautiful - after a while, every other phone feels cheap.
The battery life is actually - very good! I charge once a day, and then again if I'm up after 10pm.
It's fast, boy.
The phone is built for swiping - so swishy! Very fluid.
It charges quick.
I love the night clock!
The screen, the screen, the screen.
It's a beautiful, sexy phone. Very. It's how it makes me feel while I'm using it.
And the camera. Enough said.
Fingerprint works for me 99% without any problems really. Never have the hit or miss in that.
Battery lasts good after the new AOJ5 update.
Didn't have the freeze of lag other people had before the update and it became even better after it.
I use SwiftKey and don't have any problems with keys on the edge or swiping at the edge.
For being a phone the speaker is OK but you don't buy a phone for the speaker sound.
Camera is great and ok in low light.
Charges really fast with wireless. Just make sure it says fast charging in notifications.
One bad thing is that there isn't really any apps that support the edge feature.
Laying the phone with display down is outright stupid and notification should work with it turned up.
Sent from an secret device from my hideout.
I don't regret. it's the best phone I ever had.
Batterly life is correct (48h) and I've not done the AOJ5 update yet!
Pictures quality is amating.
Screen is really great, compared face to face with the Iphone 6+ of a friend, the S6 screen is better.
The only bug I have so far is the freeze, sometimes (once a week), when unlocking with finger prints.
Excellent phone With 6-7sot ..excellent caméra. ..fast. .my only regret is the infrared missing
Envoyé de mon SM-G928F
My only regret is the brightness bug... Everything else i love this phone
Excellent phone but with root access and knowledge about simple modding. So keep in mind I'm not taking about stock.
-Battery life is even better than Z3. On wifi i can easily go above 7h SOT (my record is 8h) even with gaming. Fast charging is great also (wireless too!)
-Screen is beautiful, infinite blacks super resolution and great visibility outdoors
-Speed and multitasking best I've ever seen
-excellent build quality and premium feel (and look)
-very responsive touchscreen, maybe too responsive as it can easily react even to metal objects
-very loud speaker (not stereo but at least i can hear it, on Sony stereo speakers were very quiet and sometimes harsh on max volume)
-one of the best cameras, the best auto mode, pro mode with lots of features
-signal on both wifi and gsm is strong and stable
-not getting warm when being used
-great development (not quantity but quality is the key!)
Cons:
-might be uncomfortable to hold and use, accidental touches might be registered when using one handed
-glass build so you should be careful
-heart rate monitor/led glass is prone to scratches (not gorilla glass for sure)
-don't really like the audio port placement

No reget, I love this phone so far
- Love the beautiful the design, unique, it amazing
- Good build quality
- Best camera, Pro mode is a plus
- Best screen, new experience on curved screen
- Battery was very extremely good, 1-2% overnight (if no LED notification, disabled apps, Lux, Greenify, Disabled services)
- Have no issues about heating, fast charging, wireless charging
(doing Fast charging when battery low it does warm up a little - 40C, when it reach about 60% it become more and more cooler)

As mentioned before, for most of us, 852 EUR for a phone is pretty expensive, and this is only for the 32GB model. I'm not accepting the fact that I paid that much for a phone that wasn't going to be at least 95% perfect out of the box. We're living in 2015, we SHOULD'NT HAVE THE NEED to turn off sync, turn off gps, etc. in order to get our phones last a day, and we definitely shouldn't have the need to remove things or to root the phone and install customizations in order to make it work properly.
It should JUST WORK as Apple-fans say, and I really can't blame them as the iPhone 6 I had "just worked" with it's teeny-weeny 1800mAh battery lasting me until afternoon the next day with standard usage of the phone.
This is purely a Samsung/S6 Edge+ fault and not android itself as my work-phone which is a Z3 can last a full workday of GPS:ing and spotifying and I'll still come home with about 60-70% battery. And if I leave it turned on on a Friday with 50-60% battery, I will have about 30-35% battery on the Monday (of course in stand-by the whole weekend but still).
Now I know I talk much about the battery life in this post. But it's just one of the many issues that I can compare with other phones and with the Z3 I also have.

Battery life seems to be so different from a person to another.
I have wifi always on, sync always on, screen brightness on automatic, ... well all is on except:
Bluetooth is off, NFC is off, I use the "Manage app" under the RAM tool to close most of the app automatically and I turn-off the smart network option under Wifi.
I have WIfi at home and at work, it probably helps too.
See screenshot attached, ok it's a scenario where I have not played game a lot during these days.

First impressions!

This is coming from an IPhone 6s plus
The phone feels amazing on the hands, the speakers sound lound and clear, fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate, the camera is amazing especially the wide angle.
The battery life is average speaking on a first cycle basis and with everything on, Bluetooth, nfc, gps, brightness 100%,always on display, occasional music and video streaming. The screen brightness could be a little higher but overall happy with this phone, it went from 5%-40% during a 17minute charge time so the quick charge 3.0 is amazing plus that extra battery being shipped fixes any concern with the battery life.
No weird issue with backlight bleed, dead pixel or phone getting to hot.

Haven't got the phone (yet),but, from several video reviews I've seen, easy mode is the only access you have to the (stock) app drawer.
I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy S5 yesterday.
Pros: fast phone, good battery life, premium build and feel, excellent camera both front and rear, loud and robust built in speaker, hi is clean and customizable. Vibrations while typing and unlocking feel solid and premium. IR blaster is powerful and effective. Not a whole lot of bloat pre-installed on it
Cons: Visual voicemail is T-Mobile bloatware instead of being built into the phone app like it should be on Marshmallow. The back lock/unlock/power button will take some getting used to. Since this is my first device with USB-C I only have one cable in the house at the moment.

FYI you can also turn on the screen by double tapping on it.
I love it except I've already been through 2 of them due to light bleed in the bottom right corner of the screen. I want to keep it because I really enjoy the phone but the light bleed bothers me knowing it is there.
Came from the LG v10 and G4 b4 that I thought the smaller screen would bother me but it's so fast and clear I love it I've been killin benchmark apps like I never seen before. Also the camera is nice the pop up option makes nice pics.
Easy Home is Crap, I couldnt find any other way of enabling the app drawer through the stock launcher so I installed Nova Launcher and everything looks right now. I switched from the V10, the only regret that I have is stepping down to 32gb internal storage from 64gb in the V10. But I still have my 200gb SD card from my v10. My local T-Mobile Store only had the gold color, but it is not an obnoxious gold color. I love the G5 it is soo much snappier than the v10, although no local stores had any cases for this device so I turned to Amazon. I have a TPU clear case, glass screen protector, and an additional USB-C cable so I dont have to move the one from the house to my car charger.
awesome
i got my g5 2 days ago. first i want to say the build quality is sweet. i like the mixture of the plastic and metal on the back. i love the weight of this phone. i take a lot of pics and the more weight the phone has the steadier you can keep your hand. the finger print is very fast. it's almost instantaneous. it doesnt work at first boot though. you have to use your pin/password first then after that you can use your fingerprint. why they decided to do that i dont know. the camera on this thing is amazing. the ois is very good and the focusing is much faster than any lg phone i've had. the first day i had this phone the phone got hot. i dont know if it was the initial break in time or what. i did have to install a bunch of apps and i was playing with it for a long time. it killed my battery life. when i got the phone it had 50% life. i took it down to 15% then charged it back to full. the next cycle is when my phone was pretty warm. the next battery cycle only lasted about 12 hours total. at around 12% i recharged it again to full overnight. when i woke up i restarted the phone with a full battery. it's been 6 hours since then and the phone has not gotten warm once. at 95% i had 45min of SOT. i had to plug my phone in to pc to do some things so it went back to 100% battery. i will see today how much SOT i get from a full drain. if that 5% use was any indication i think it's going to be around 6 hours SOT. that's what i got on my note 5. i didnt like how lg got rid of the app drawer so i installed google now launcher to get it back. i hope we get root on this thing. there are some other tweaks i want to do for even better battery life. not having twrp i can live without. so far i am happy with my pruchase of this g5. i'm looking forward to seeing if my happiness keeps up for the next couple months. i'm hoping this holds me over til the next nexus phone comes out.

I like Smart Settings too. I have it turning off wifi as soon as I leave my house and plan on setting it up to launch google play music too. it automatically changes from ringer on to vibrate... I know there's programs that do this for you on other phones but having it built in is cool. This is a useful add-in unlike Slowsungs TouchJiz stuff that is not useful... do I need Gear VR draining resources even though I may never use it... no, then why is it there, Same with Samsung Pay (which I use but others don't) and about 20 other things. LG got it right this time. The G6 or the V11 will just improve on this platform. :good:

Here's how you get the "normal" launcher back:

The G5 in the two days I've owned I've owned it is easily in contention for the worst phone I've ever had. Granted LG has some awesome software concepts but that's about where any praise I can give this phone ends. This phone gets hot far to fast even during normal use. Not including it gets ridiciously hot just sitting on the charger untouched. If I load The Walking Dead Road to Survival the battery vanishes. Even as I type this my phone is on my car charger and its using almost as much power and the charger is giving it. If I try and play Pandora while driving it actually loses battery even while charging. Also if I try and play ANY video after having the TWD game open it stutters like I'm watching it on a potatoe until I close all programs through the task manager. For as many problems as I was having with my Note 5 I wish I wouldnt have used my jump for this garbage "flagship" phone. I can't wait for the month to be over so I can burn another jump to go back to a Samsung. I highly doubt I'll ever buy an LG again.

You either have a hardware issue (they happen unfortunately) or you have a rogue app eating up your CPU cycles. Time to troubleshoot. That's definitely not normal and it's most definitely atypical.
I'd start with a factory reset. Don't install anything else. Don't do a thing. See if it still happens. If it does I'd return it for a replacement. If it doesn't happen then I'd start updating apps and installing apps one by one.

Sent from my LG-H830 using XDA Free mobile app
The phone was already factory reset on Saturday when I attempted to return the phone and grab an S7 Edge. All the apps were previously installed on my Note 5 without issue. And unfortunately if it is a hardware issue how would I actually prove that to try and have T-Mobile switch it out?
And there's my Gsam showing that my WiFi has been a drain on my battery even though its been turned off the entire time

The Gsam and the heat from the device should be enough for them to swap it out. They generally don't ask many questions. I recently had upgraded my wife to a Galaxy S6. It had an issue with sending receiving group texts. Got another one by simply showing them the texts.
I'll have to stop by after work and talk to them. I'm just really put off by how bad my particular phone is. I do hope it's just a hardware issue and not a systemic problem with LG I love concepts behind this phone
