Add MMS APN to Lumia Icon... Possible? - Windows 10 Mobile

The Lumia Icon came unlocked by default from Verizon. With WP8.1 you could install Access Point and it would automatically install the correct Internet and MMS APNs for the SIM that had been inserted.
With the update to W10M there is no longer access to the MMS APN on the Icon, rendering a really nice device only partially functional unless you're a Verizon customer.
Does anyone know if it's possible to "hack" this using tools available on XDA?

Had the same issue.. Enabled the mms field in the registry but couldn't get it working on Bell. Turns out access point actually works again... Still gives the message about being unsupported on this version of Windows when you run it, but leave it open for about 30 seconds or so and alas, it works! Go send an MMS afterward.

Holy ****! you just made my day!

When I try to install via SysApp Pusher I get "This app is not compatible with this device"
How do I go about installing it?

I was personally able to install it from the direct link http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=ce3895c7-01d0-4daf-a4c3-25c10463942d
That is with my phone region set to USA

I also have an unlocked Verizon Lumia Icon that I have been trying to get the MMS APN changed. I have unlocked the registry and was able to turn on the MMS APN field. Unfortunately the settings will not save.
The phone has been updated to W10M (.494). I also installed Access Point with no success.
A little background info. I purchased the Icon because our company has changed to Bluegrass Cellular, a regional CDMA carrier, which has an agreement to use Verizon towers as well as their own. (Verizon is not in our region.) Unfortunately Bluegrass does not offer WP and will not assist me with setting up the phone. My company issued an i-phone 6S. Ugh!!! I inserted the sim into the Icon. Calls and data work. I can receive SMS text. I cannot send SMS or send/receive MMS text.
I posit the following observations/questions.
The sim might possibly be custom programmed for an i-phone?
Would it be possible that an android sim would be compatible with the Icon?
I desperately want to stay with WP!!!
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
I am so desperate I am willing to pay someone to help me get this fixed if it is possible!
I am also will be willing to try any other CDMA windows phones that might work as well.

Have an unlocked HD7 running on Att..no mms

i talked to ATT..no help there so i found an APN online and i can use the internet etc.
but my phone will not send or recieve MMS messages
the only info i can enter on the APN is APN, username, and password
there are no editing proxy etc...
can anybody help me with this??
Go to the HTC section of the market and download the connection manager/connection wizard/network profile. I'm not sure what its called but you'll know when you see it. Run the app, select att, enjoy.
thanks! seems to be working...
funny cuz when i opened it up it already said ATT...so i just hit the check mark and it works
Tmobile and ATT both require data connections to send MMS. Since Tmobile and ATT 3g are not compatible, it'll send over EDGE.

It's my understanding there is a method of changing the frequencies of the HD7 to be compatible with the AT&T data service. But you have to contact AT&T for the needed info.
I *seriously* doubt that is true.
TMOUS HD7 --> never get 3G on AT&T.

new to the forum

Hey guys...so I'm new to all this stuff. I have a htc desire cdma phone that i've had since feb of 2011. My roommate has a hero and first week i had my phone he rooted it. Since then I've lost the ability to send/receive mms's. I still haven't had the chance to upload a rom. Wondering if anyone would care to help me finish doing this...any rom that stands out thats pretty simple to install...only real thing i'm looking for is apps2sd and any way i can get function of sending/receiving mms
APN
I think you just need to manually insert your providers APN. In mobile data settings you can set your APNs which you get from your provider's website. I think you can chose between MMS, data etc. APNs.
I have cellcom (Wisconsin, USA) and couldn't find anything on their website...
Try resetting to the default settings, if that's possible.
May fix it?
Else you may try and flash a rom which have the APNs in it.

How To VVM on AT&T (confirmed Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash)

Many of you are aware of a thread in the Focus S section of this forum about someone with their Focus S getting VVM to work. However, it wasn't the most helpful thread to replicating it. I have since replicated this on a different device (the Focus Flash), so I wanted to post something here to let more people know.
Thanks to davezaff for the idea.
Here is how I did it on my Focus Flash. You will probably need a way to edit the APNs.
1. Update to 7740
2. Update to 8107
3. Insert sim card into an AT&T Android LTE phone (I used skyrocket)
4. Go to att.com and switch plan to Data Pro 4g LTE plan. I had to call to switch since it wasn't working on the website.
5. Setup VVM on Android LTE phone (don't know if this is necessary, but this is what I did....make sure friend knows the VM password so they can re-add it when they put their sim card back in.
6.Insert sim card back into Windows Phone
7. Call Voicemail
8. Wait for VVM to show up on phone (mine showed up after calling voicemail).
9. If sync error, edit the APN as follows
APN settings (delete the internet_line APN)
Create a new APN
APN Name: pta
Profile Category: internet (always on)
APN: pta
Auth type: None
Username:
Password:
Proxy address: proxy.mobile.att.net
Proxy domain:
Proxy port: 80
I now have working VVM on AT&T with my Samsung Focus Flash. My internet tethering still works (applied the Interop unlock + tethering hack from XDA). I have not tested MMS since I did this, but the MMS APN was untouched.
So they have tied vvm with their stupid data plans, how nice. So I can pay $20 for 300mb + vvm or I can pay $10 for unlimited data and traditional vm... ATT is so dumb.
Moved To WP7 General
This is not development, its more of a guide. Please post such threads in the WP7 General section
For the normal person, it is pay $30 for 3GB of data with traditional VM or pay $30 for 3GB with VVM. The only difference is one plan has the word LTE at the end.

Yes, and just download the English only language pack.
i already updated to 8107, but im asking if the vvm works for the titan, i also don't know anyone with an LTE android phone
Does this work if you don't setup VVM on the android device first? I was thinking of just calling AT&T and asking to be switched to the 4G plan.
Get it working without an LTE device
OK, I got this to work on my Lumia 800. Furthermore, I didn't have an LTE device.
What I did have however, is an AT&T store that caters extensively to my place of work (a software company). They are really nice, understand unusual requests, and try everything to help.
I did the following:
1. Upgrade the OS as per the original post.
2. Call the nice AT&T store that I mentioned above. Asked them to put me on an LTE plan. (I was already on an enterprise plan, so I was moved to the same enterprise plan but the LTE version. Cost of my plan remained unchanged).
I explained that I was doing some app development, and planned to be swapping phones from time to time, some of which are LTE phones. (I also have a microsim adapter, so moving between phones that take microsim and regular sim is not an issue for me).
They asked if I'd like VVM provisioning. I said yes.
They told me that they would change my listed phone to a blank IMEI (basically change the IMEI listed on my account to a blank IMEI that's associated with an LTE phone for provisioning purposes). I don't know if this is something all stores would be willing to do.
3. In the APN settings, I changed my APN to pta. I did NONE of the other settings mentioned (proxy, proxy port, and everything else are BLANK).
Now I have Visual Voicemail on my Lumia 800!
Hmm so why is vvm only available to LTE phones/network I want to get this.
Sent from my SGH-i937 using Board Express Pro.

I wonder if this blank IMEI is a special IMEI that at&t has to test LTE devices on accounts or something. I wonder if this IMEI would also work on other accounts as well. Hmmm.
I don't suppose that IMEI is something you could share possibly? I mean if its not a real phone, and can work on multiple accounts, it would be very nice to (selectively) share it so that some of us can get VVM.

I agree, since I just called asking for essentially this setup and they deniened any special IMEI.

So i also have an 800 and asked them to provision me for HSPA+ recently, so they switched my data plan to one that was supposed to be able to access it (i have no idea if it really can - that's a whole different can of worms). What did they switch your plan to? If you look online and hit "recent usage", you can see under "Additional Data Purchased Usage" your data lines with the plan code. My code is "HSSMTD4O" Just wanted to see if i could skip the "call att" step.
Thought I would share my experience also..
I was able to get VVM working on my Focus Flash. Luckily I have a friend that works at the ATT store. He just took a Samsung Note scanned the IMEI and added that as my phone. Then he enabled LTE and VVM. I rebooted phone and went in the the phone tile, and VVM prompted me for password. I put in password and all has been good.
The easiest way would probably be to borrow a friends VVM supported phone and put your sim in it, then have them add VVM to your account.
I did not have to add any APN's or make any changes to the phone.
Getting it working without a LTE device and without AT&T in your pocket
So, I decided to try and get VVM setup on my Focus S today, but I have no friends with AT&T and the local store was unwilling to help in the fashion outlined above.
So what to do? Well the main thing you need for this is the IMEI number from an Android LTE phone. So I asked a couple friends that don't live close by, and none of them had a LTE phone.
So I searched the internet for those "Get unlock Codes" websites, specifically for tutorials on LTE phones, and some of them show the IMEI number.
So I went into chat support and told them I needed a LTE plan with visual voicemail, and they asked for the IMEI number, I gave it to them, and then 2 minutes later VVM is now provisioned and working properly.
Yeah so I ended up adding the IMEI of a random Galaxy Note that I do not own. It was dead simple to do it online through tech support chat. After that, just called up voicemail, waiting a second or two, hung up, and then my phone prompted me for my voicemail password and automatically enabled visual voicemail. I realize that AT&T's system does not check for duplicate IMEIs across the network, so you can throw the same IMEI onto any number of phones and AT&T wouldn't know a thing (until they start looking of course).
I did have to change my APN to "pta" to get it to sync properly, but after that it was all smooth sailing.
Now I've got Visual Voicemail on my Titan and Lumia.
I am glad some of you were able to get it to work. The big issue I had before starting this thread was getting the APN settings. After getting VVM enabled, it couldnt connect until I messed with the APN. Glad I was able to help y'all!

MMS?

I have an unlocked Nokia Lumia 900 from Rogers. As I'm sure most people here know, getting MMS to function on an unlocked [Nokia] Windows Phone can be a hassle. I've tried hard resetting my phone, changing the APN, etc, and so far I've had no luck whatsoever. Can someone guide me through a process that will enable MMS to work? It's fairly important considering the number of messages I send/receive every day...
Download Network Setup from the Nokia collection. That will configure MMS.
It's not available in Canada, for whatever reason.

Hi,
I had the same issue with Fido until another user on here helped me out. I called Fido and had them reset my data package. I believe the user called it re-provisioning. I have attached the link to the original thread. I just said I was having data issues which was not untrue because my data connection was extremely slow and that I had talked to someone who suggested reseting (re-provisioning) the data plan. After the re-provisioning the MMS started working and my Visual Voice mail (visiual voicemail through mms, not the windows phone as its not supported on Rogers from what I understand). In addition my data connection finally seemed to work correctly.

I don't know if u still care or not, but u can flash the Mexico's latest ROM (telcel or smth), you won't have LTE, but you'll have everything else functional (mms and tethering included)! And you'll also lose the rogers splashscreen... yay

Yes, I have. I tried both this one and the TelCel rom. Both of them allowed me to finally use internet sharing and MMS. I'm pretty sure LTE works on both roms too it is just shown as 4G instead of LTE and when you are on HSPA it shows H instead of 4G like with the stock Rogers rom (and probably AT&T too). When tethered and showing 4G as the connection on my phone, I have gotten 1.5 MB/s down and about 800 KB/s up so I'm pretty sure that's an LTE connection. When I went to the cellular settings and changed it to only use 3G data, I get about 150 KB/s down and 80 KB/s up.

[Q] Samsung S4 mini SGH-I257M unlock help

Hi,
1. I bought a Samsung s4 mini SGH-I257M, locked by Telus.
2. I tried install super root, but each time it tried to launch the application, a shield from up-left corner will block it to run.
3. I asked a mobile shop unlocked for me with Z3X, but the sim card cannot be registered (the sim card is not from Telus.) Every time when the phone try to register the sim card to network, there is a small shield icon will shows in the up-left corner and blocks it.
4 After two days, I went to the shop and got my phone back. I rooted my phone with Root Dashi, a chinese root software. It works! I inserted a Fido sim, the shield no longer there, but I still cannot register my phone to the network. Any idea?
Sorry for my English.

Rooting and carrier unlock are not the same thing. it sounds like you do not have an APN for Fido or slightly possible the shop was not successful, but if so the Fido SIM should prompt the phone to ask for an unlock code.
If so, there are tons of outfits that offer carrier/provider unlocking. You can Google the string "carrier unlock SGH-I257M". You will find How to videos on YouTube regarding unlocking as well.
But likely it is just a lack of an Fido APN not allowing it to register on the repeater. I looked for the APN BTW, No luck.
You might also do some XDA searches on Chinese online Rooting. The XDA Developer Arco68 has an excellent method that works very well on your phone if you should loose the root you have.

What do you mean "do some XDA search on Chinese online Rooting".
Should I ask Arco68 and see is there a i257m ROM for me?
When I power on my phone with Fido SIM card, it won't ask for unlock code any more. Where I can get the APN setting?

There are several threads on XDA about Chinese online rooting, it has been found that IMEI's, personal data and so forth have been transmitted to the host servers in the rooting process and links on XDA (wisely) have been banned until the matter has been fully researched. There is a good search function on these forums. You can find info.
Asking a developer for a specific ROM is bad form, just asking generaly in the Q&A section in will net what you are seeking. The Dev's are not paid, they donate serious work to the community as a whole, Read the forums for the i9195's, those are the ROMs available right now.
Read up on APN's, locate Fido users, call fido, do research. Anyway, hope some of that helps, it's about all I know about Fido. Learning with some effort is well worth the time spent. No one is born knowing this.

farewellartist's suggestion is a good one. It could help to see what is going on. That aside, you have to use an APN that matches the network you intend to use and the account has to be active. Also the network protocol set on auto shows it finds the Network, the Sim and phone can connect, but it also needs to know how to communicate with it to register on the system. That's possibly the issue.
You really may find some help calling your Providers tech support regarding connection. Yes, that about as fun as banging your toes with a hammer, but usually has better results. It may be as simple now as plunging in an Access Point Name, user name and password in the APN. (Some Pre-Pay acct's use user and Password) Good news is you DO have connectivity. It's now down to details.
Keep plugging along, you are making progress.
Here is the support link for their Pre-Pay. I'm in Florida so I'm clueless regards to who you are dealing with.

You are certainly not weak on signal. As long as you have the APN set at 'APN: chatrweb.apn' you should register.
Rare as it is, Bad SIMS happen. (Murphys Law). Just to rule out you can try the below and I Know the steps getting there are not needed, but it's for others in the future who may be newer at this:
To check connection at the base level try the following.
GoTo: Settings-Connections-Network connections-More networks-Wireless and networks-Mobile Networks-Network Mode, THEN start ticking the 4 setting starting with GSM only, and work upwards. It can't hurt.
Also when trying to connect with chatr, in the search for Network operators/Available Networks in mobile Networks, when it's done searching nets available, choose one chatr. not auto. If it finds two chatr towers try each.
I'm adding the chatr APN for anyone in the future as well. I assume you have the same but it's not in the screenshots.
You must be frustrated by now, hope someone else with experience on chatr can offer a fix. I assume you did get on either Telus or Bell so you know the thing connects, a replacement SIM is the last option I can think of.
Good Luck.............

If it were me I would not re-flash anything. The connection problem would not likely be from a carrier unlock. Also it is not likely it would be from rooting or installing the CWM boot loader.
You have a known system now, you know when it worked, and you know the few modifications you have done. Even if you have called Chatr tech support before, it might help to call again and tell them it will not log on to their system. DO NOT tell them you have rooted the phone, DO NOT tell them you installed a boot loader. If you do that, they will probably say that is the problem, END of support. Just say it was unlocked by a dealer and now takes their SIM but it won't work.
They should walk you through each step of the configuration, they want your money every month, you want their service. Good place to start. Give them your IMEI, make sure it's good and not 'blocked'. it's in the settings/about device/status or dial *#06#. I'm assuming you already have confirmed your phone is comparable with chatr, I think you mentioned it was from TELUS, but with BELL, ROGERS or whatever, unlocking does not guarantee the Modem is the same as the new network you are trying to use.. There are several other reasons, but SIM, IMEI and improper configuration are the most likely problems if compatible.
There is a chance it is something simple that has been missed. You have shown patience, that is a big plus with modding phones. Going step by step and being willing to start over is something many here have done, and many times. Small problems are sometime the easiest to miss. So Call Chatr tech support, if they have an outlet near you maybe you can get a replacement SIM from them, (I would check that first) as I mentioned before.
One other thing to try, see if you can get a new Pre-Pay/month to month SIM from TELUS or the original carrier the phone was branded for. It should work and if not, they know their configuration. I'm out of suggestions, hopefully someone from Canada can be of more help. Don't give up. There are always answers.
Thank you, Systwk
The SIM card works with my old phone, so probably is not the SIM card problem. I take out the SIM card from S4 mini and power on it, the signal still shows good. So, I think flash ROM is the most simple way for me. Anyway, I will can chatr on Monday.
Hi Systwk, I called Chatr just now. She said the APN setting is only for Internet and I need to go to a Chatr shop to check my phone and SIM card. I think I will go this weekend.
I think you bought the phone that has been report as stolen and has been blacklist so it is block on all network in Canada.
QCN FILE
If you are having a problem getting a signal on your I257M message me I will send you the qcn file for it so you can write it to phone via QPST.
