Hi OnePlus 5 peeps!
Today (June 27th), I graduated from high school!
In more important news, I finished upstreaming the OnePlus 5 kernel to the latest stable kernel version...
Whoa, what is this?
This is my personal kernel that I run as the OnePlus 5 is my daily driver.
I will not claim my work as the best at anything, but just know that I would not do anything to this kernel that could potentially ruin my own device.
Additionally, this is the kernel that comes built into CarbonROM.
There are three versions of this kernel:
AOSP aka AOSP/LOS build - Flash this on any source built custom ROM except for CarbonROM
CR-5.1 aka CarbonROM build - Flash this on CarbonROM
OOS aka OxygenOS build - Flash this version on OxygenOS
Main features:
Upstreamed Linux kernel version, went from v4.4.21 -> v4.4.79
Backported random driver from Linux v4.12 (latest and greatest)
Backported scheduler from Linux v4.9 (latest android kernel branch)
Upstreamed F2FS driver from f2fs-stable/linux-4.4.y
KGSL driver improvements
MDSS driver improvements
SOC driver improvements
Built using Optimization Level 2
Added maple io scheduler (default) by frap129
Added adreno idler by arter97 with tweaks from frap129
Vibrator motor control by flar2
Kcal control driver from EX kernel
Many wakelocks disabled
Switched to power efficient workqueues across the kernel
Built with Google's latest stable gcc-4.9
Anykernel 2.0 by osm0sis! Compatible with all OxygenOS based roms
Download:
Latest builds
OxygenOS boot.img
How to install:
1. Reboot into the latest stable TWRP build
2. Download kernel zip and make sure it is in your internal storage (/sdcard)
3. Reboot into TWRP
4. Double check here to see if you require any additional instructions
5a. Install -> Install image -> select oxygen-4.x.x-boot.img -> swipe to install
5b. Install -> select CarboniteKERNEL-XXX-Rx-OP5-N.zip -> swipe to install
6. Reboot
DISCLAIMER!
If you don't understand my instructions, that's too bad >
If you are unsure about what this thing is, I highly advise you do some research before going through with installing...
Updates will come as regular as I want them to, don't ask me when I'll release cause you'll know when it comes out >:'D

For OxygenOS users:
Code:
[B]If you are on OxygenOS and are coming from another custom kernel:[/B]
Download the latest stock.4.X.X-boot.img
You [B]must[/B] flash the boot.img before flashing the kernel!
[B]If you are on OxygenOS are switching to a different custom kernel:[/B]
Download the latest stock.4.X.X-boot.img
You [B]must[/B] flash the boot.img before switching kernels!
For AOSP/LOS/RR/etc users:
Code:
[B]If you are coming from another custom kernel:[/B]
You [B]must[/B] reflash your ROM build before flashing this kernel!
[B]If you are on AOSP/LOS/RR/etc and are switching to another custom kernel:[/B]
You [B]must[/B] reflash your ROM build before flashing another kernel!
Why is it like this?
I have included some ramdisk modifications that set the default settings for this kernel. When you come from a different custom kernel, the ramdisk changes from that kernel may conflict with the changes I intend to have. Likewise when you switch to a different kernel; my ramdisk changes may conflict with the changes they intend to have. When you flash the stock boot.img, it replaces the modified ramdisk with a clean one, removing these conflicts.
And it's here, get it while it's hot folks! First upstreamed kernel for the OP5
Thanks for joining the party :highfive:

gz on graduating! and thx for the kernel :=
Congratulations on the graduation buddy,
Just flashed and I had charging cycling on and off (using dash charger in car on freedom v1.1). Flashed EX and charging is fine. Need charge ATM but maybe a little later I can help you get a log.

Hmmm never noticed this... I guess the graduation drinks are getting to me. I'll re-upload a stable build without upstreaming as that's definitely the culprit.
What an amazing day for you (Congratulations!) and the OP5 community!
I was really loving and enyoing all your efforts you did for the OPO (Pure Nexus port) and the amazing Carbon ROM.

I'm the first to report so let's see if anyone else has the same issue. I will also try for logs later on though I do have a lot on today (so might be this evening).
I didn't actually reboot or get to try a different charger to help diagnose so don't want you doing more work that you need to for what could me my issue

I can confirm the issue because while I was bringing up the upstream branch I ran into this issue with dash charging and I thought I solved it. Time to debug!
Edit: link updated without the upstreaming, everything else still stands though

It's because OOS has a hal that already uses a switch for dt2w.
New update, still looking into the gestures issue.
However, Dash Charging is fixed on the upstream kernel so here it finally is! I also added a bunch of sched patches, a thermal patch, and some other misc stuff from the latest CAF branch.
Adin-Kernel-R2-OP5-OOS-N.zip
I started working on a New Oreo Nebula Kernel, using the latest Caf for the msm8996 Series kernels..........
I started a week ago, I originally wasnt going to do a new kernel for the HTC10, But Device started to tick me off and the guy that I was going to leave it in his hands, was busy,
and I was bored and needed to do something, So I started on it.........
Let me explain something first, This isnt a LAYOVER Stock source, Meaning, I didnt not take stock and lay it over CAF,
first off that would be next to impossible with the 7400 series CAF that I used.. 7400 series is rebased CAF tag for 8.1 series kernel..
Stock source originally started with 02500, but seeing an update came out before they released it, they added in 03000 into their source..
Stock source = 3.18.63, which is 02500 in caf, 03000 = 3.18.66, HTC didnt change the sub to 66 but kept it 61.. Not sure why.. anyhow,
that is 8.0 Oreo Series, anyhow, as of Caf 05300 Oreo 8.1 Series started, CAF rebased that tag, First time I ever seen them do that..
Latest caf tag for msm8996 is CAF 07400 8.1 Series................
I originally Took the Caf 03000 8.0 Series and imported all Needed HTC components that allow HTC10 to boot and work.... I left out as much debugging and other un-needed HTC related crap
that did nothing but slow the device down.... I created a master Skeleton GIT Repo, that allowed others to take and mod to their liking..
after I finished with the master, I decided I wanted to grab the latest CAF, again 07400, and then I picked all my own commits again from master into the 07400 with a few manual changes that I had to make
for it to work right, Then Created a new master based on the 07400 tags.
From the 07400 tags, I started working on Nebula 1.0.0-2e-7400, 2e = 2nd Edition, and the 7400 = Caf Tag.....
I have working builds but Choose not to release anything on xda at this point, More testing has to be done.. If anyone is interested in testing,
then goto our Telegram Group, location in my Sig or our PureFusionOS thread..............
Nebula 2e is at its very early stages of custom mods.. So dont expect alot at this time........
I know this question will be asked, Will it work on my 7.x firmware or ROM.......
I used @flar2's commit to disable verify, allowing it to boot on all firmwares and ROMs, but Camera will only work on any rom with the 8.x blobs.....
So even know it boots on a ROM with 7.x blobs, the camera will crash unless your on 8.x blobs ROM.................
Reason be, cause I imported the stock camera from Oreo, so yes, it needs Oreo blobs to talk to hardware, otherwise it wont be able to handshake and just crash...
everything else works perfect from my testers point of view.. Some minor issues, but normally tracked down and fixed quickly....
This will be my Final Kernel work on the HTC10, after this I will most likely never work on the HTC10 again............ I am moving on....................
I just wanted to give one last thing to the public before I move on..............
ETA: Not sure.. Still testing............ Join our Telegram group to get access to test releases..............
Good luck
Great work !
Can i get one ?

hi guys never started a thread so sorry if im making any mistakes
my redmi 1s has kernel version 3.4 and i have an application which requires minimum of v3.8
i want you guys to help me get that upstreamed version if anybody has made or can make
so i can continue using the phone or ill have to turn it off forever:angel:
There is no kernel update for armani after 3.4.x.
A try was made to upstream the kernel by @rupanshji to 3.10.x, but there were quite a couple of problems there.
So, no.
For stability and security patches, you can try out LineageOS-11, built by me, with a guarantee for security patches every time the LineageOS community bumps upt the security string to the latest version. (if time permits)
It's up on XDA's general forums.

Introduction
This ROM was created for personal use. It was compiled from last sources with some personal changes and bug fixes. It's based on Lord Boeffla's kernel for LineageOS 15.1 ROM with all Kali NetHunter features included. Unfortunately Lord Boeffla stopped developing for Android so it's possibly the last available kernel from him. This ROM was tested on OnePlus 3T LineageOS 15.1 clean installed ROM with NanoDroid microG and MagiskSU.

Reboot to system.
Run NetHunter App and apply all requirements & give it root privileges.
Launch DB Feed in SearchSploit section to initialize the exploits db.
Launch Android Terminal & give it root privileges.
Run 'apt update && apt dist-upgrade -y' command to get the latest updates.
Launch other apps to set them up.
Special installation instructions
There are some "issues" I've discovered during the compiling and installation. I don't know if they are general or just specific one and depends on using NanoDroid microG and MagiskSU. But as it is.
1. All apps removes from /data/app/ after ROM installation complete and I have to manually install them to make everything works. So I've attached all apps in the Download section if anybody will face the same issue.
P.S. This issue was fixed in last commits from kali-nethunter git. So I've recompiled it from sources and added to nethunter installer. But haven't tested.
2. After the first clean installation of NetHunter with built in kernel Boeffla Config App can't sometimes to initialize the kernel. In this case you should boot to TWRP recovery and flash standalone kernel's zip. After that everything should work's great.

No. I was searching a lot of time for custom firmware with monitor mode and packet injection support for QCA6174 model but there is nothing at the moment. So you should use external adapters from recommendation list in official Kali wiki.

I was thinking about 3 model in the beginning of developing but the thing is I can't publish untested roms. And I don't have a OnePlus 3 model to test everything by myself. But if you want I can compile it just for you. But I can't give you any guarantees.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could compile it for op3 pie, thanks anyway:good:

What is Umbrella?
Umbrella is a project that aims to make the kernel sources that HMD released for Nokia 8 Sirocco (A1N) compatible with the Nokia 8 (NB1). The idea behind this is to replace the outdated 8.0 kernel sources that HMD released for NB1 with more up to date ones that are used in the 9.0 builds for Nokia 8 Sirocco.
Why do this, you might ask. Well, the answer is simple: The devices are so similar that HMD / FIH already have their kernel sources in a shared source tree. You can validate that yourself, by downloading the kernel config from a stock NB1 kernel (under /proc/config.gz), unpacking it, and searching for the commended entry "CONFIG_FIH_A1N". What umbrella does is take the sources that were released for A1N, readd all device specific files for NB1 (they were pruned) from it's original kernel soure, and integrate the stock kernel config (also called defconf) from NB1.
Doing this also lead to some other small quality of life improvements that are not directly relevant to an end user.
Umbrella contains the latest changes from linux-stable (v4.4.179 at the time of writing, compared to the stock v4.4.153), and Qualcomms Codeaurora upstream
The WiFi driver from Qualcomm is compiled directly into the kernel, instead of being loaded as a module. This allows you to flash umbrella based kernels to every build version while keeping everything else working correctly. The stock kernels use signature enforcement, which means that the wifi module that is loaded from the system partition has to be signed against the kernel, which is not the case for every custom kernel or even the kernels that were built for a different security patch.
Unlike the officially released kernel sources, umbrella does not have stupid typos in it's device trees that cause the phone to display white bars on all of your screen etc.
Umbrella disables the block that FIH put in place to prevent users from rebooting into EDL mode from within android (using adb reboot edl).
Umbrella also includes a patch that causes the device to not reset it's entire memory when the kernel crashes, therefore retaining the last kernel output log, which can be used for debugging
You can compile the kernel with compilers newer than GCC 4.9 (not clang though), without having it immideately crash at boot.
It includes a tool that automatically sets up a crosscompiling environment for the kernel.
What Umbrella is not
Umbrella is not a project to add significant new features, or the ability to tweak things beyond what the stock kernel already offers (which is technically not that bad). It aims to be a reference kernel, a base for (potentially) other kernels that are based on it and add those features. I know that that is kind of a broad goal, considering I am the only one who seems to do actual development for this phone, but who knows. Having a lower entry level might help in case someone is curious and wants to get into kernel hacking. And I would certainly be happy if I wasn't the only one developing for this device.
If you want Umbrella to contain features like:
Overclocking
More governors / schedulers / whatever
Color / Sound / whatever control
Wakelock blocking
etc. etc. etc.
then please Alt-F4 your browser right now. Ok, don't do that but at least please don't request it because it will make you get ignored, nothing else.
Why the name Umbrella?
While I developed the initial prototype I watched through 3 Resident Evil movies, and this is kinda a zombie project, so I think the name fits quite well.
Why are you posting this?
I am posting this because I am hoping that it will be useful for anyone that would like to get into kernel development and tweaking without the hassle that comes with setting up the kernel sources that are released by HMD.
But, one disclaimer: I am not a kernel developer. I am a curious CS student suffering from a bad mix of too much time and stupid ideas that solve stupid problems. I am trying my best to produce something useful and be of help, but please don't expect wonders from me, thanks.

Nice. this will likely be useful in the future
Updated the umbrella source to the latest 4.4.180 kernel, and May 07 CAF tag (LA.UM.7.4.r1-05100-8x98.0). Also readded some NB1 specific code where it was missing (discovered by doing a diff against the 5140 kernel source that Nokia recently released).
Just in case anyone actually cares about it

I do. Who knows, in a year's time I might have enough knowledge to build a custom Rom for this phone
Kernel sources which is used on pie has been released officially. Finally, we have an "original" kernel and we've got closed one more step to custom roms.

As I described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-8/development/official-source-code-releases-nokia-8-t3930324, they are identical. The only difference are the device tree files (which still contain typos that break the display), and of course all modifications I made to the sirocco kernel source that Umbrella is based on (wifi driver, EDL mode reactivation, upstreaming, etc.)

I wouldn't call Nokia sources broken, but I would call them incomplete, outdated and impractical to work with. And that hasn't changed.

Can somebody help me? I have built Lineage OS 16.0 for the Nokia 8 with the Umbrella Kernel. However I am facing issues with getting it into work. Firstly TWRP fails to flash it with error 7. I am including the recovery.log file in case anyone wants more detail. I then proceeded to extract the payload.bin file, and flashed boot.img and system.img seperately. However that didnt work either as my phone got stuck at the Bootloader unlocked warning screen. If anyone is interesteed I can upload the .zip outputed by the build

hey, did you wipe userdata before flashing this? I think you need to do that, like when switching to using GSIs.
also, have you checked this https://github.com/resident-nokia/twrp? Specifically the fstab file for NB1.

hey, did you wipe userdata before flashing this? I think you need to do that, like when switching to using GSIs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have flashed GSIs before but never had any problems. Also I cannot find any userdata partition in TWRP. I asked in the Lineage OS discord and I was told that probably that TWRP image is broken. I am confused

Yes I am using the latest TWRP. Before flashing I erased the data partition but still the error persisted
