[CD INSTALLER] [USB MODE] remove - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am trying to work with DriveDroid. I noticed that the phone has a CD INSTALLER, and when I use the app it comes automatically with the stupid HTC SYNC. I am trying to remove that, so I would just be connected to the FILE TRANSFER mode for now. Any tips on how to remove that CD installer mode from the phone? I tried looking it up and playing around but couldn't find much. Thanks in advance for any help. I am on LeeDroid btw.

Just got the Verizon Touch Pro 2 and am trying to install a few third party programs like:

I connect my device when trying to install, it says to check my mobile device screen to see if further steps are needed, but nothing is showing and nothing is happening.
Can someone please advise?
Thanks so much!

And you're sure that the apps didn't end up showing up in your programs list?
First, when you plug your phone to the PC, does it show any other signs of conenction? You should first get an option on the device screen to choose between "disk drive" and "active sync"...when you're installing apps from your PC desktop to the phone, you need to be connected via the active "active sync" option. Once you are, you'll see either Active Sync (on XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (on Vista/7) open on your desktop. You may have already gotten that far, I just wanted to make sure you're connected properly that way.
The next thing to try would be to install the apps straight from the phone, instead of via the PC. To do that, just connect the phone via "disk drive" option, copy the .cab file over to the phone (on to the SD card is best), and just run it from there to install straight to the phone. Running the desktop .exe installer just automates that step for you, but otherwise it's the same process. Running the .cab file from the phone bypasses any possible issues with the active-sync connection.
I've attached the .cab for the memmaid app here, try that one first.

Thanks so much for the reply! I actually managed to get the programs installed via my ActiveSync connection - finally! Not sure what the problem was before.
I plan on keeping your instructions, though, in case this happens again. Thanks so much for the reply.

I will, believe me! In fact, I have only had my TP2 for about 3 days but have a few "issues" going on, so I will start a new thread and am looking forward to getting some help.

[Q] USB Internet passthrough from Linux

Hi, I've googled and searched the forum for this and can't find anything that works for the Desire HD.
The phone comes with an option to use the PC's internet connection through the usb interface. When I enable this on the phone the usb0 interface pops up on the computer. I've tried various bridging and natting alternatives, but everything ends up with the phone complaining that htc sync isn't set up right. I've tried askimng HTC what the phone expects but they just say that they don't support Linux. Grrr!
Anybody succeeded in getting this working or can say exactly what the phone expects to see on the pc side?
I thought it was the other way around (PC using the phone's connection) ?
Edit: Link.
Both are possible. PC using phone's connection is called "Tethering" and Phone using PC's connection is called "Internet passthrough".
There are recipes for foolong a "Nexus One" into reversing the tethering solution so that it connects to the internet through the PC, but the HD seems to have blocked this.
We have a Wifi-Free home, so this really is the only way of connecting the phone to the internet without using valuable 3G data traffic.
Apologies, I didn't know.
I took a look around, maybe you've tried this already but here it is (scroll down to post #53). Good luck!
Thanks. Looks promising. From Post #53 it looks as if I should be able to do this from adb, although earlier posts in the thread mention busybox and root, neither of which I have on the phone. Have in any case not used adb to connect before so may ask for help here if I can't find out how to do it.
Thanks very much for the suggestion.
For root you can search for the app "Visionary" in the market, I'm not sure if it installs busybox too though (but you can find that in the market as well).
Also make sure you have USB Debugging enabled in the settings.
You're most probably going to need the ADB drivers as well, but i think they're shipped with HTC Sync. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks, now have adb access (with root . Next problem is that my linux box always assigns an APIPA (zeroconf) address to the usb interface. Can't remove it or specify a static IP for the next connection.
Unfortunately I can't help you or suggest anything else for the time being. I'll be switching to Archlinux tonight (for the 150th time) and will hopefully have my device within this week. So if you don't figure it out by then, I'll give it a shot.
I think it can be done quite easily using the Firestarter application. Too busy playing Black Ops to confirm that the method I have in mind works but I will try it out later and if I'm right I will post a how to.
I'd be very interested to hear how you get on phunkycow. The APIPA problem seems to be debian sid related. On my wife's Ubuntu laptop I can configure both interfaces and ping between the phone and the pc. Didn't have time to figure out routing and dns.
I now have this working on Ubuntu. Debian still gives me a zeroconf address on the pc's usb interface.
Next problem is that to script this as suggested in post #53 I think I need a different su or sudo on the phone as sudo and su -c both give me permission denied.
Any other ways of running remote commands as root using adb?
Working perfectly on Ubuntu when I run through the commands interactively. Next job is to script it. The only possible caveat is that I seem to have to run the adb commands as root, however a quick test indicates that this is probably doable just by piping each adb shell command to su.
Will post back with the findings and the script (when I'm happy with it).
Piping to su doesn't work unfortunately, so I need to think again.
Any tips on scripting adb shell commands to run as root?
Another problem (after setting this up interactively) is that only some apps even attempt to connect to the internet this way.
Web browser shows error about not being able to connect first time, but then connects anyway. Ditto Google earth.
Phone update refuses to connect and asks for wifi or mobile network to be turned on.
Skype can't sign in.
I'm wondering whether some apps look for a particular property to be set and refuse to connect if it's not there??
A hot candidate might be [init.svc.netsharing_pass]???
Any comments?
Hi,
I installed bash and su from su-2.3.2.1-ef-signed.zip, which I moved to /system/bin
which su shows that that's what's being used.
I was hoping that this would give me the possibility to run su with switches (ie su -c "command"), and only use adb to invoke a script on the phone with the rest of the commands. Unfortunately fails on both counts :-(
Does anyone know of other su utilities out there that are more like the Linux version?
Cheers!
The answer seems to be gscript.
Phone side commands can be scripted to run on the phone, requires manually finding and running the script from the phone's UI.
Now if there were a way to invoke it through adb ... !
hi Learnincurve,
can you please briefly post, what you did to use the internet-passthrough? i cant figure it out with my desire z...
thanks!
m1l4droid, you are using the internet passthrough with ubuntu just like that? what am I doing wrong...?
Hello everyone.. I can see that the thread hasn't been updated for some time.. but still, has anyone founded an easy way to use "internet pass-through" option on linux? I have read the thread, but I am not very familiar with the terms "adb" etc. I am using Desire HD rom (InsertCoin HD Port 1.8f), on an "small" Desire... And the linux edition is Ubuntu 10.10... Thanx in advance..
wouldnt you be able to access an ad-hoc wifi network with your custom rom? so the only thing for you to do was to setup the ad-hoc wifi at the pc and connect with your phone...
for the usb-passthrough I still dont have a solution, neither.

Can anyone help please!

Hello everyone first time writing in the forums and need a little help. I am looking to root my HTC Evo for the first time and going to use it through a MAC with Unrevoked. I downloaded the reflash and I have Snow Leopard 10.6 on my comp and for whatever reason when I am prompted to connect my phone along with the debugging active on the phone as well, nothing seems to happen at all and in some instances even freezes up my comp. I was wondering if I have to update my phone to the newest update(3.70) which I haven't done yet? will that make a difference? any advice or help will be so appreciated, thank you!!
Try installing & uninstalling HTC Sync if you haven't already. It should be on your SD card if you haven't deleted it. Just make sure that it, along with anything else that syncs with your phone, is uninstalled prior to running the reflash package.
htc sync doesnt work on a mac. are you on an admin account? if not, i'd try it on one. and yes, you need to be on 3.70, but i dont know why your comp would reboot. also try updating the comp if you can. if upgrading and admin doesnt work, try opening terminal.app in the utilities folder, and type
sudo /users/yourUserName/applications/reflash.app or wherever you have it. that might work.
try setting the phone to disk drive instead of charge only before running unrevoked, it worked for me..

[Q] Disabling HTC Sync Manager from auto-start when phone plugged in

This may be stupid, but couldn't find any cure...As title says - anyone knows how to disable the thing from auto-starting when I plug in my One X into the PC? Thanks
Do you use it HTC Sync Manager or did you install it just because of the drivers? If only because of the drivers, uninstall the whole thing and leave the drivers installed. Here's only the drivers if someone needs them: http://www.mediafire.com/?fye0ryom9wuyvrm (someone posted this on another thread, I take no credit).
If you do use HTC Sync Manager, one quick and easy way I found was to disable the HTCMonitorService.
Thanks for the input.
It is uninstalled and I don't use it. The thing is that the moment I plug in my phone, either of these happens:
- The setup of the Sync Manager starts automatically (if not installed), so I have to cancel it manually every time;
- The Sync manager itself launches (if installed).
There's no windows service or entry in the registry, nothing. It's obviously in the phone itself as an image, as the installation appears in my PC as a virtual drive the moment I plug in my phone.
I'm using JB.
You can try the auto-run settings in windows, or if you feel brave about it (and if rooted or maybe not, since i didnt try this) remove the htc stuff from your phone
Auto-run settings seems to be ignored, phone not rooted yet, but I was hoping to resolve this on Windows level...

I changed the auto-run settings and i dont get any messages anymore
Also did it but setting is ignored for some reason. Will try again, thanks. Now at least I know this *should* normally work
The autorun settings is one way to solve the problem but you'll still see a "cd drive" in Explorer when the phone is connected and I, for one, don't like that. If you want to "fix" that, connect your phone to the PC and press "Windows Key + Pause/Break", open "Device Manager" and under "DVD/CD-ROM drives" disable the one relevant to the phone.
You'll still be able to browse the files in the phone within Explorer, it's just the "cd drive" with HTC Sync Manager installation that won't appear anymore.
But of course! Can't believe I didn't think of that, thanks man! :good:

Worked like a charm, thanks @samhill22
You can also do what I do, go into your phone settings, apps, all, then scroll down to you see HTC Sync Manager and disable that. That'll prevent the installer from running on any computer. I havent seen any problems with my phone by doing this either, I still auto sync to drive and cloud services, all sync's work on my phone still like weather and account, and syncing music to say SongBird still works.

Hi guys,
I hope i am in the right place...
I have an android system installed in my Mitsubishi, but the local importer of the system, has "locked" the system by removing the Google play app, file manager and all ability to make any changes.
Is there a way I can add back the Google play so i can add a few apps to the system? The system has a USB port.

no not really
without a file manager
I was going to say - put a file manager app on to the usb - I would have provided you with a file manager app
wait for usb files to show up and install app but
a file manager would be needed to show the USB and install an app manually anyway
I mod android and I have my own rom but I can't think of anyway other than....
having another type of app store on there
This unit has a full thread on 4pda.

Installing APK
Hi,
Did you manage to install an APK?? Or did you get any answers regarding this issue?
Just an idea because I don't have this in my car:
connect it to a laptop, and use "adb" tool to install the APK files you wish.
Question is, how would you root it after that, and whether converting apps into system apps would work in order to install play-services and play-store.
In order to fetch the APK files from a normal device, you can use my app :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.app_manager
Can I reply here?

Hello Goamir,
Does this android work properly with the 2016 mitsubishi outlander can you use your original gps antenna, rear & side view camera are you able to get your cars A/c settings etc on the screen? If not can anyone recommend a proper android system?
I managed to activate developer options
Today I managed to activate developer options in my car (Mitsubishi Outlander) by going to input devices -> Voice input, I played a bit with it, I set the default to English and downloaded offline recognition, afterwards I pressed the small question mark in the upper corner and there it tells you that you don't have google services, there's a button there that suggest to install it, I pressed it and later I noticed that I have developer options (not sure which step actually enabled it, If someone can repeat it step-by-step and tell it will be great).
Anyhow now i'm stuck again since I can't connect usb and push apk, I tried with male-male usb but it didn't worked.
If anyone got any idea please share.
Details I have on the device:
When you reboot it and long press the screen it takes you to fastboot mode, when you hold volume up in the steering wheel it takes you to recovery .
The model I have is Flyaudio G8508

Any news?
Hi,
I got my system on my Mitsubishi updated - unfortunately i payed for it...
Still if I could help in this forum I will.
I can install any app and have full access to google play.
However some option are still missing.
e.g. when i connect my PC to the system it is not show at all.
i was thinking i could somehow create a full system backup (image) and then turn the backup to an update file.
If anyone can offer a way to enable the use option, that is that my system would appear on my pc i could try it.
I have developer option and usb debugging on via an app i downloaded.
If i can do it in any other way I can try.
Another thing i was thinking of is to create a full backup and later restore, from the recovery mode but there are only option for update in the recovery mode.
Is it possible to allow/add the restore/backup option ?
