Stable Custom Kernel for PE1? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone knows of a good, stable custom kernel that's working on PE1?

any MM kernel (for stock / TW) as of the date of this post and likely a while afterwards, should work + be stable on PE1
all MM updates so far have had relatively small changes, mostly related to preloaded apps and security profiles

Ideal first custom ROM?

I get my z1 compact tomorrow and I am looking for suggestions for a new ROM as I am coming from an s4 any good ones about?
Try CyanogenMod Original, it has everything you need
I would prefer CM11 over CM12.
Last nightly of CM11: http://forum.xda-developers.com/son.../cm11-nightly-available-anymore-help-t3014226
CM12 ist in Beta still... not every CM function is implemented yet. And it's not as stable as CM11... i would wait at least for M3 before using CM12.
You have to decide if you want a stock based ROM (Xperia feeling) or a full custom ROM (AOSP, CM, etc).
Apart from that, there is no "beginner" ROM whatsoever. It always depends on which features you want, how important battery life is and so on.
Just check the threads of the ROMs look at the features and screenshots and read what users say about it and then make your choice.
You can always backup your stock Android and try them out.
As far as I know, using custom ROM (that means any ROM not based on stock ROM) means worse camera performance and loss of other hardware related features as bravia engine and xloud. The last two do not seem that important, but the deterioration of camera performance is the main reason I do not use a custom ROM.
By the way, the ROM of my signature is perfect.

[Q] please help

Hello all. First I want to thank everyone for still being around to help, especially on such an old device.
Anyway, I recently bought one of these and got it rooted via odin. Currently that's all I've done to her. I have been looking over this forum, android forums, and Google in general prior to posting, I want to solve problems on my own, but when I can't, I'm not scared to ask for help. And I need help with a few issues. I will seperate them, to make answering them easier.
1) is twrp not available for this model?
2) if not, the only other recoverys I can find is Phils TouchWiz, and ClockworkMod recovery touch 5.8.1.5. I wouldn't think these are the same, which is suggested? Also Phils Touchwiz was last updated (that I can find) to 4.1.2 which is where I currently am, am I want to go to 4.4
3) I only see 2 ROMs listed on here, and 1 is one of the ones I was thinking of using in Dirty Unicorns. The other I was thinking about was CyanogenMod. Which of these two is suggested?
4) I have no service on this phone, as its my tinkering device. The only thing I need to work is WiFi. That being said, do I need to flash a new modem?
Do I need to flash a new kernel?
Thanks for any help you can throw me. I know there are lots of tuts for all these questions, but frankly they are all very old, and this stuff changes by the day...
1. Yes but this device has recovery and kernel built in together, this recovery is only for flashing / wiping, other than that, it is not usable with other custom roms unless the devs build it to use that
recovery along with the kernel.
2. It's the same as question 1, For Touchwiz Jellybean, you'll need a recovery kernel that supports the android version and firmware, otherwise it wouldn't work or boot up, Agat's Source GB27 for GB27 Touchwiz ROMs. Or specific AOSP Kernels for certain kernel build updates ( versions are compatible with the build date of the ROM's Original Kernel, meaning it only works on certain ROMs that are updated with the same kernel build, for example, A custom 0.0.25 will not work with stock 0.0.26 because there was a major update change in the kernel that'll make 0.0.25 not usable on it. If you use a kernel based on a specific date on an AOSP ROM that frequently updates the kernel, it may not boot up. )
3. The AOSP ROMs that are being updated at the moment are the Teams that do Nightlies. So Cyanogenmod is the only AOSP ROM that's being updated weekly for this device, I have not checked on the other ones.
4. No need to flash a modem if you don't have data service, however it may help either way when using WiFi due to dropped connections, stability etc. For AOSP, use any ICS modem, for Touchwiz, use the same android firmware modem.
Flashing a new kernel is not needed unless you don't like how the stock kernel performs whether if it's power saving or performance. AOSP kernels are kind of limited as the ones out now work with different build dates of the ROMs, Touchwiz has a couple, but Agat63's Source Kernel is recommended by everyone for GB27.

Zenfone 2 - Best Custom Rom?

Hello Team,
I do have a Zenfone2 Z00AD, 2GB Ram, and 16GB internal memory.
I kinda seem to find it slow, with the apps and games I have installed in it, it is currently in official firmware.
I am planning to install custom firmware in it, can you guys give me some advice in which custom rom is so far the best that you have tried for zf2?
What I am looking for a custom rom to address for my zf2 are th following:
rooted by default
ready for xposed (if possible)
not power hungry (battery friendly)
debloated (most stock/unnecessary apps removed)
themable (optional)
fast/smooth system/UI
Will have long term support/update (incase if the marshmallow android version will already be officially available for zf2)
So far, what I have in mind are echozen (echoe rom?) and slimp.
Any other suggestion guys will be highly appreciated.
Thank you!
each person have different opinion about what's the best custom rom, i have tried CM 12.1 , Cm 13, RR Remix, the last i try is AICP Rom and since then i stick with this Rom until now, more or less AICP Rom is the most suitable custom rom for my need, to know which Rom you need the most, you should try them, but don't expect too much (looking for perfectness rom) because each rom have plus and minus. to answer your questions in AICP Rom that i use:
rooted by default yes
ready for xposed (if possible) i know nothing about xposed and don't really care either
not power hungry (battery friendly) yes
debloated (most stock/unnecessary apps removed) yes
themable (optional) yes
fast/smooth system/UI yes
Will have long term support/update (incase if the marshmallow android version will already be officially available for zf2) until now the developer always give an update

OP3 Rom with OTA updates and is stable?

I'm looking for a rom that allows for OTA updates and is a stable rom. I would also like if I were able to flash a custom kernel such as franco on top. Thanks!

Android Q

Any progress to Android Q custom rom
Its still in beta! When Google releases it in a final form I'm sure it's gonna be custom ROMs.
If you like to experiment and not mind some bugs, you could try this Rom, for me it runs stable now. https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...-android-10-developer-preview-whyred-t3940181 (I suggest you to use IceCold R5 Kernel if you wanna try) And F2FS is working too.
