Hi!
After spending a few hours searching for answers for simple things, I have to resort to actually ask here. So please how can I:
1. Change the colour/style of taskbar? I mean for it to resemble W6.1, some application like RC MOD.
2. How do I change the menu size/style to the old one? Or at least smaller?
Thanks!
Probably should try asking in the WinMo subforum or the Kaiser-specific one.
Now I'm playing with HTC Touch Pro 2 (my signature is not update ).
some ideas for you

You could try searching for Vicsoft's UI tweaker. It will let you customise lots of system colours
As for your second question, do you mean the start menu ? when you click on the windows icon on the top left corner of your screen ?
If so, you could try JUVS HTC Enlarge start menu. Again, try searching as I can't remember where I found it

Is it even possible to get back the old style WM61 bars?
As for my second question I meant pop-up (context) menus, but I'v already found some applications which could help.

Yes, that's the one. Be sure to go through all the menus and make a note of your current colour settings, as once you get started, it's easy to forget what you had before.
Interestingly enough, whilst playing around with this utility, (there are actually 4 combined I think?) I was able to change the background colour on the program and settings page , and the signal bars colour on the task bar from white to cream, even though your not supposed to be able to do that
Never was able to replicate it though after a hard reset because I FORGOT to take a note of my settings
I'm not sure what you mean about the menus, sorry
Good luck

If you can't, then PM me and I'll give you some registry tweaks that will do this.
Just thought I would ask. I have contacted the developer as well.
I am using the latest Launcher Pro + and when I change the icons for my launch bar they don't seem to always stick. They seem to revert back to the stock icons instead of the updated .png files I have assigned it.
It happens randomly. Is it something I am doing incorrectly? Or is this a glitch?
Thanks for any comments in regards to this.
There is some talk about this over at the forum: http://launcherpro.com/forum I believe if you make it a blank link first, then put a regular icon link after, it kinda resets it and sticks. Head over there to verify...

Dude holy crap. I downloaded it today (I had a couple of times before, always crawled back to sense) and I had this exact problem. After a little while of being pissed and just re-applying, I found a solution, kinda like post 2 I guess. I just clicked on the slot, chose the same activity, and when it asked to choose an icon, THEN I picked the custom one. That worked
Thanks for the replies. I have tried that method as well. Two of the icons stick but like the center application icon reverts back first then the others follow. I will read more on the posted link. Thanks for some input. I am sure it will resolved. I like Sense but with custom icons and setting to bar to highlight froyowide I am enjoying it more and more. Please update anything you might find and vice versa.
Thanks

Apologies in advance if this is more appropriate in the Themes & Apps section, however this is a question so I thought it should be here.
I've been looking at how to customise a couple of things in TouchWiz to achieve the look I want but also balancing functionality.
Specifically, I'm trying to do the following:
1) Different wallpapers set up for each screen.
I have looked at Multi Picture Live Wallpaper but based on what the dev. has advised, this does not appear to work on ICS so that rules it out at the moment.
I'm also not necessarily keen on using an alternate launcher (tried Nova) because removing the S-Pen doesn't trigger anything when removed with Nova as the launcher - and that's something I'd still like to have working.
2) The icons on the bottom row / dock of the launcher. I would have thought they were customisable but they don't appear to be. The instructions that I found suggested you need to open your app drawer -> Menu -> Edit and you should be able to drag/replace items in the dock area. However, when I try to do this it doesn't seem possible.
For context, I was inspired by this: http://mycolorscreen.com/2012/11/23/white-serenity/ and want to take some of the ideas and apply them to my Note2.
Does anyone know how to do what I'm after?
Thoughts appreciated.

Can't answer your 1st question, because I don't really care much about wallpapers, but in answer to your second question, just long press on an icon in the dock and you can move it off and back on the dock. If you move other icons over the top of existing doc icons, you can create a stack.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave, had tried long pressing already but it does nothing for me.
Pressing and holding icons on the homescreen brings up a message box that says "You can resize widgets, and reposition widgets, shortcuts, and folders by pressing the menu key and tapping Edit."
However, when doing so - the dock disappears.

You long press on the icons in the dock, not the homescreen.

Thanks, apologies if I was unclear but that does not work either -tried the obvious stuff first.
Is it working for you?
The only thing I can think of is that my rom may be slightly modified by my carrier (Optus, Australia) as it has some a couple of bloat ware apps and something they have done is affecting it.?
Regardless, I had a play with Nova launcher again and given how customisable it is I'm okay with giving up the S-pen pop up menu.
Still trying to figure out multiple wallpapers bit may have to compromise on that too.
Cheers for your responses.

Thanks, I had been trying to get that working but the best I could do was getting it to display one wallpaper even though I had 5 set up.
After realising i had to also change the scroll wallpaper option in the *nova launcher settings* rather than just the Multi picture live wallpaper settings it worked correctly. Now I have multiple different backgrounds displaying.
Appreciate the responses with help guys.
(Still can't edit dock icons on the stock launcher though -which is odd -but as I'm using nova now I'm not overly concerned. )
Interesting that you can't remove the dock icons - I do believe some people had the same issue with Optus branded Galaxy S IIIs. What a bizarre carrier customisation.
Best bet is to flash an unbranded stock ROM.

With Optus version here too. same problem, can't find any resolution...... Is the Optus customisation team high? Why would they remove something so intuitive, so simple, and so necessary!?

Worse. Incompetent.
( I kid, I kid. )
Nice to know I'm not the only one experiencing it though.
Only resolution if you want to use TouchWiz and have an Optus handset seems to be flashing another rom.
I haven't run across anything else that is a show stopper for me though and as I'm getting what I want with Nova Launcher (with the exception of the pop-up S-Pen menu when the stylus is removed), I'm reasonably happy.
This is how it's working out so far - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35096760&postcount=821
Edit: Thanks Onslaught - if they've done it on another handset model as you've suggested it's either a silly oversight or a silly decision.

Hi folks
I contacted Samsung about not being able to change the dock. This is the response I got:
“In response to the customer’s enquiries, unfortunately we you can’t change the dock icons as they are locked in, this is actually due to a patent issue we had with another manufacturer. This is not actually a fault of the handset but a design specification. It will not be changed in the future.
In relation to replacing Google Chrome as the Internet browser, that is also not possible. The user can drag the app onto the home page so he can more easily access it. Again, the dock icons can’t be changed or replaced.”
So if the problem is limited to Optus handsets in Australian then I'm thinking this answer is a bit of BS? Anyone have one of these on Telstra? Vodafone? and have the same problem? I'm assuming everyone else outside Australian can change the dock icons?
Thanks
One of my colleagues purchased a Note 2 via grey import (thinkofus.com)
and hers does not have the same restriction so it definitely does not apply to everyone. Not sure about other carriers in Australia though.
If you have root access you can unlock the dock icon edit function by going to /system/csc/other.xml and find

I bought a Telstra branded version yesterday and it has the same stupid restriction, so I guess it's an Aussie telco thing. I have no idea why carriers think this sort of thing is a good idea, it just hobbles good technology, and annoys people at the same time.
Anyway I flashed a generic Singapore 4.1.2 firmware today and it fixed everything up (as well as getting rid of some Telstra bloatware).

If you use Nova Launcher you lose the S-Pen pop up menu? Which menu, the one where you take it out of the phone or the one where you can make a quick note? I'm getting one soon and wanted to use Nova Launcher.

The Quick Note pop-up appears on Nova Launcher but the extra home page that appears and takes focus when you remove the S-Pen (only via the Default TouchWiz Launcher) is lost. On reflection, I don't find it that useful as it seems to be more of an introductory / landing page for the S-Pen and when I remove the stylus it's literally just to take a note - which I haven't done much of to be honest. On the additional landing page that appears when the S-Pen is removed, the Quick Note pop-up appears on top of this as well. So in my opinion, not losing much at all by using Nova Launcher.
First screenshot is in Nova Launcher, second is in TouchWiz (already closed out of the Quick Note pop-up).
I just got a virgin/optus Note 2 and I am trying to do the same thing by changing the icon in the dock but can't.
Curious thought on why some devices can change the icon and others can't... For those which can, is it a different model to the GT-N7105?? Maybe an early version?

It appears to be whatever is in the Australian ROMs.
The model isn't necessarily different as grey imports are technically the same.
Internationally imported handsets do not have this restriction and I can confirm I've observed this myself with other Note 2's from colleagues / friends.
So basically, either flash a new ROM, use the suggestion from Beeva in this thread (requires root) or use a different launcher to get around this.
Is there a way to remove the sidebar on the forums, the bar on the right with portal posts ? It takes up almost a third of my screen, and causes very weird formatting issues. For example many times the forum page is rendered underneath the side bar and text and everything is hidden underneath. I have no use for that bar and would rather get rid of it. I've searched in settings and don't see an option to disable it.
Hello, @spinedoc,
The XDA 2015 themes do not have an option to hide their side panels by default. However, you do have two options:
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the Style Chooser. Click on it, and then choose "XDA 2013 Beta - 1024". Boom - no more side panel.
If you really like the XDA 2015 themes but just don't want the side panel, you can use this userscript by @anazhd to do just that. No more side panel!
Hope this helps, and regards,

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately I use IE11 so the scripts won't help. I'll try reverting back to older versions of the forum, but it's a shame as I really like the 2015 version. Can you please pass along the feedback? I think the side bar is simply awful, it takes up almost a 3rd of my screen and most of the time the forum gets rendered behind the side bar, making the forum kind of useless. Why force feed the portal posts down our throats?
Anyhow thank you for the help!!!
Edit: 2013 works, but no dark theme, sigh...
@spinedoc,
Actually, so many hundreds of users have expressed the same feelings as you over in this thread that I'm sure almost every moderator and admin on XDA knows that most of us don't like the sidebar!

Yeah, this was the only way I could find to do it. Under Edit Current Theme -> Icons there was an "HTC Classical" pack that restored most of my icons to how they were pre-update. Unfortunately not Chrome, Gmail, Maps, and a few others but it's better than nothing. I could never find the "Change Icon Shape" option that everyone else seems to have (even with developer mode enabled)
I installed U11Plus icons package and it looks really nice

Then learn how to create an iconpack. They didn't ruin anything, so let's say for example you sold 5 million phones.....how on earth are you going to please 5 million individual users ?
Android is very open source so modifying it is pretty easy. Do some studying and make it your own.
It's very easy to say somebody else ruined something.
My 2 cents......

@Mr Hofs Perhaps you don't realize, but HTC has removed the "Change Icon Shape" feature normally available in developer mode with Android Oreo. So, yes, they did ruin it, so to speak. They simply could have left that option available and the solution would have been 2 clicks away instead of having to take time to customize your icons or root the phone to customize the OS.

Just use lean launcher and pixel icon pack... It's basically like stock android
Can't you just use an icon pack with a 3rd party launcher (like Nova, etc)?
Mr Hofs The reason some people are saying that their experience is now "ruined" is because there is the tendency in (forced) updates to get new looks or changes to how things work without any notice the user that doing the update would significantly change the experience by doing that update and not giving the user an option after the update just to keep the look and feel exactly as you come to expect it. People are busy and sometimes a forced change is not something someone wants to deal with at that moment. New looks and features are great, but not always desired and or timing of updates with user current usage need is poor. Changes to expected behavior at ill times leads to negative reactions to the update.
I, quite frankly, dislike the new "squircle" icon look. I like the clean icons with no background or rounded edges. I also recently had to factory reset my phone. The changes start piling up and make the experience "ruined" because you just sometimes want things to stay the way they are and look as expected because there is an inherent comfort with that and you have enough other things to deal with and having too many changes all occurring at once or too frequently might not be popular behavior with some user.
What people like us are saying is that we would rather 1) be told up front what an update will actually do and give us a choice to have the update now, delayed, or 2) at least give the user the option to keep the interface as accustomed to. The only reason to force an interface change should be if a vast amount of interface actions are changed, not just the look.
