How do I remove the sidebar from the forum? - About xda-developers.com

Is there a way to remove the sidebar on the forums, the bar on the right with portal posts ? It takes up almost a third of my screen, and causes very weird formatting issues. For example many times the forum page is rendered underneath the side bar and text and everything is hidden underneath. I have no use for that bar and would rather get rid of it. I've searched in settings and don't see an option to disable it.

Hello, @spinedoc,
The XDA 2015 themes do not have an option to hide their side panels by default. However, you do have two options:
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the Style Chooser. Click on it, and then choose "XDA 2013 Beta - 1024". Boom - no more side panel.
If you really like the XDA 2015 themes but just don't want the side panel, you can use this userscript by @anazhd to do just that. No more side panel!
Hope this helps, and regards,

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately I use IE11 so the scripts won't help. I'll try reverting back to older versions of the forum, but it's a shame as I really like the 2015 version. Can you please pass along the feedback? I think the side bar is simply awful, it takes up almost a 3rd of my screen and most of the time the forum gets rendered behind the side bar, making the forum kind of useless. Why force feed the portal posts down our throats?
Anyhow thank you for the help!!!
Edit: 2013 works, but no dark theme, sigh...

@spinedoc,
Actually, so many hundreds of users have expressed the same feelings as you over in this thread that I'm sure almost every moderator and admin on XDA knows that most of us don't like the sidebar!

[THEME] Apple Mac (OSX Leopard) for WAD2 by Mallman

Available at www.swampthing.net
Looks very nice, you're on a roll!
Funny thing, I'm using the same calendar icon in a theme I'm working on. It's far from finished as the whole black area with the appointments still needs to be done, but just wanted to share it with you because of the icon.
Keep up the good work!

n0ot sure why not. when on the main page just place finger on screen and slide. you have to put a little pressure. you can check the gesture by going into author mode and then tap/hold and select page>properties. then check and see if your gestures are there.
updaed FAQ navigation question
new version with a changed look uploaded. See post #1 for details on how to obtain it
cheers dude, great collection and thanks again.
Loving every minute on xda forums.

a tip to sliding the pages is to put a little pressure and make sure you are not in author mode.

Where did the option to switch to 2010 xda site go?

Hi all,
As per the title... Where did the option to switch to 2010 xda site go? No offense but I absolutely HATE this new site layout and up till yesterday I had been presented with the option to use the 2010 site layout but it seems that option has now been removed.
I am sure I am not the only one who prefers the old style of the site over this new one so is it possible to at least put the option back us so we can choose?
It wouldnt be so bad except that the new site does not scale properly and you have to constantly use the bottom scroll bar to see what it is your reading or looking for and that is annoying as hell!
Please advise...
Just scroll down to the very bottom of the page in the left hand corner and change the drop down theme to XDA 2010. Or go down to the bottom of your options page and change the skin.

WOW!!! Do I feel dumb... Lol... The option used to be up top by the logo and now that its gone I thought the option was as well.
Thanks for the kick in the pants!!! LOL!!!
Also, for those that want to keep the new theme on the site but are having the "not scaling properly" issue as I mentioned, scroll over to the right and in the top corner there is a button that will activate the "side Bar" which will then push everything you need to see into the screen.

[SOLVED] Chrome & XDA forums

Has anyone else had any issues with browsing threads on XDA and trying to pinch and zoom ?
As soon as I do it the page starts reloading.
If I try to scroll down the page refreshes and reloads.
Any way to stop it ?

Change your forum style from the 2013 beta to any of the others styles. I had the problem and that fixed it for me. I use the the 2013 beta 1024 now and forums look and work great. The button to change the style is at the bottom left of the page.

Edge Navi (Edge navigation panel with Back Button etc)

Hey guys
I'm new here, so I don't know if this is the right place to post these kinds of threads or may violate minor rules,
so I apologize in advance.
I made an app called "Edge Navigation Bar" and what it does is, it adds an edge panel that has recent apps, home, and back buttons.
I made this app solely for individual use purpose and then thought why don't I share it? So I post this thread.
As I said, this app was made for individual use purpose, and still in progress, so it may contain some glitches,
so let me know by posting replies should there be an issue.
It is free of charge, of course, with no ads so it should serve well as a substitute before some neat apps are developed.
Have a good day!

Add an Edge Navigation Panel to your Galaxy Note Edge that has a notification / recent apps / home / back / lock button on it!
The panel shown in the first image, is panel 1.
Panel 1 has 5 buttons: 1.Red Stripe, 2.Yellow Layer, 3.Blue Home, 4.Green Backspace, 5.White Lock.
1.Red Stripe: shows Notification Bar (double clicking will show Quick Settings)
2.Yellow Layer: calls Recent Apps
3.Blue Home: functions as Home Button
4.Green Backspace: functions as Back Button
5.White Lock: flips the panel (double clicking will lock the device)
If flipped from panel 1, panel 2 is shown.
Panel 2 has 5 buttons: 1.Red Layer with Slash, 2.Yellow Up Arrow, 3.Blue Camera, 4.Green Down Arrow, 5.White Lock.
1.Red Layer with Slash: kills background apps, clear memory cache
2.Yellow Up Arrow: volume up
3.Blue Camera: execute stock camera app
4.Green Down Arrow: volume down
5.White Lock: flips the panel (double clicking will lock the device)
If flipped again from panel 2, panel 1 will be shown.
To uninstall this app, you have to undo the 3rd Step.
This app was tested on Samsung Galaxy Note Edge SKT (SM-N915S)
Any attempt to install and run this app on any devices other than Note Edge will cause CTD

Thank you, looks good. Will try it out when my Note Edge arrives.
You may want to change the name of your app to include "Note Edge" so it can be found more easily. I have been looking in Google Play for apps for the Note Edge and would never have found this if it wasn't for this post.

I have searched and searched to find a way to implement custom soft menu
without root permission but dead end
If you can guide me the way I can definitely make one
Non generic way would suffice if there is general solution
since this app is only for galaxy note edge
This is something nice to have if you guys have root. search xda: LMT Launcher. Fully customizable , must have app for rooted phones.

What happened to old xda layout?

Hello folks
I used to have ability to set older layout on the forum. Now after reinstalling the windows today I had no option at the bottom to change it.
Is it still possible? This new look is very illegible and I can't stand it

There is a dropdown at the bottom of the page to switch XDA styles.
But that dropdown does not seem to work properly? On some forums it will switch back to the 2015 theme by itself.
EDIT: It used to happen on Oneplus 3 forums, but it seems to be fixed now. Still, settings page states "Please note that some forums here may override your skin choice temporarily." What is the reason for that? Why are old skins not good enough for some forums?
