I have a K5 A6020I36 and the LED notification only works with Gmail, is not working with any other mai or whatsapp o hangouts etc.
I'm sure I have all the configurations right in the notifications menu and in the application
What can I do for have the led warning on ??
the app must have a configuration to let the LED work, search it in the app configurations, I have the same device model and whatsapp and hangouts works well with the led

I love the DEFY really, but couldnĀ“t find a customizer yet for the built in LED.
I want to config behaviour for e.g. sms or emails . Any ideas?
Hello
You should have a look at Missed Call, available on the market.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
I use missed call, sms notifier, email notifier.
The great thing with email notifier is you can select a different color depending of the e-mail account.
I tried Missed calls for Android 2.x on my Defy today but it didn't work. The LED was still blue when receiving a call and didn't flash when missed either.
Anyone having an idea?
I tried to disable led notification in the phone's settings but it still didn't work
App Blink -> Android Market
Same thing for me. Tested all the apps. The led is not working.
Even with Led tester which says that is compatible with defy, doesn't work. What to do?

I had a problem with the LED. When I activated it with the apps, nothing happen. I had to go in the phone settings to activate the LED.
Thanks for the hint molexxx. Do you own a Defy? Because I tried that app and it is not forking either. Not with LED turned on or off in general phone settings.
The only time I see this LED ever working is when receiving a phone call it is blue no matter what app I tell to light it in a different color
Have you tried "LED me know"?

Yes I have a defy. It works perfectly.
TESLA app is working for me.
I've used "Flashlight" (use camera LED) & "Shake-Flashlight" (use screen LED) from my Defy and both works fine
MotoTorch for LED, and QuickSettings has a Display Flashlight included.
I didn't have any luck with any of these programs either. Missed Call only worked for missed calls, lol. No other programs would change the color of the front LED.
At first, my notification LED was not working at all. I activated the option in the settings menu but no missed call or missed text would trigger it.
Now I downloaded the app "Light Flow" and now I get the notification light but it remains unreliable - sometimes it works fine, sometimes it still doesn't light up even though I have a text waiting.
Any ideas? I googled around and others seem to have the same issue...
My notification light seems to be working out of the box without any app. Gmail, Google voice, and text messages using handcent all blink different colors just fine.
So my G3 is rooted via stump root on the stock rom. My notification led hasn't been working for certain apps like yahoo mail or snapchat. I've tried different notification apps from the playstore and xposed modules such as XLED but nothing will work for those two apps. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? The notification led will work when the phone is charging, waking the screen, or if I get a text message.
Hey folks,
did anybody manage to get the LED light working with Whatsapp and so on? Everytime I get a message it just does nothing. With system apps it's different. As soon as a SMS comes in the LED lights up.
Thanks for the help.
LED notification -> Other Unread Notifications - > Enable
choose Color for it and you are done..
Will try and report back. Many thanks!
It works but it does not apply whatsapp individual led settings. You are however forced to stick to the setring you made in the system and not the app.
Hey everyone. I'm coming from phones that haven't had always on displays so I didn't really think it was necessary but now that I've turned it off I noticed that when I get notifications the LED doesn't work for anything except my work e-mail through the outlook app. No gmail, allo, hangouts etc. I've also turned off edge notification and tried toggling the LED notifications, rebooting and a bunch of other stuff. Am I missing something simple? It seems like I should be able to get an LED notification for everything even if they are the same color.
Edit: whoops i totally meant to post this in the questions forum.. if the mods could move it that would be great >_<
I've got the same issue, I can't find settings to adjust led
really would like to know this...always have the AOD off

You have to do it in the app settings by going to settings/app/ pick your app then go in notifications /notifications /importance and change it to urgent.
I've done this but it's still not working !

Sorry! Working here
Mine is working, but I noticed that there seems to be a timeout on the LED. So if I don't clear the notification or look at the message or email then LED will stop flashing ( approx 30 minutes). During that time I have opened the home screen and dragged down notifications view from the status bar, but as I said I have not cleared or viewed emails or messages
Well, i'm happy it's working for you but in my case it seems gmail app don't accept led notification at all.

Yes you are right , just tested and sent an email to my gmail account and the LED does not flash although I get a lockscreen notification . However I also use the samsung mail app to get gmail and when that synchronises with gmail, then the LED will flash.
I had a look at the settings in the gmail account , but can't see anything obvious

Yes, Samsung email app is working but take's so much time to synchronise, i hope Google will found a fix soon because Gmail app seems to have this problem with Oreo because not only Samsung phones have that issue!
I use an app called Light Flow, it allows you to set notification colours for various apps, e.g. Blue for Facebook, Green for Whatsapp. I absolutely love it, can see what notification you have just by the flashing colour
Just got S9 two days ago .
Can the Lightflow App enable the LED to flash notifications while screen is ON ...
BUT Always On Display is off. ?
I was also wondering the Lightflow App says it needs control over notifications and messages calendars etc. Is it reliable enough to not miss an appointment ?
