Does the M8S support quick charge 2.0 ? I know that it is shipped with snapdragon 615 which support quick charge 2.0 but when I asked in quora last night , people told me that quick charge 2.0 needs other hardware components beside the processor , did anyone try charging the M8S with a certified qualcomm quick charge 2.0 ? I want to know if it works before I buy a quick charger .

i dont think so bcoz M8 also dont support quick charging
M8 supports Quick Charge 2.0. I use it for a year now with a Aukey Qualcomm 2.0 certifited charger. The M8S on the other hand needs testing. I didn't get a good answer online but it's out there somewhere in a review of the device.
No it doesn't have! Max current taken from charger is 1,5 A.
Had both phones and was tested on charger with info for current. On M8s I couldn't get more then 1.4-1.5A.
On M8 it goes easy to 1.9-2.0A
Also on some spec I found to have 1.5A Max current change. Don't find now the info where I've seen

i have m8s unlocked in uk. it definitely supports quick charge 2.0. i have Aukey quick charge 2.0 uk mains p/n uk001 and also an Aukey 10400mAh battery quick charge 2.0 p/n pb-t1 .
Both are extremely quick about 60mins 0-100% the battery will give about 3.5 full charges which is nice.
Would also say i think it has helped with the overall health of the battery, Good times as its sealed in there.

I have been searching for Z2 quick charging, and find out that z2 have quick charging enabled only on Japanese model ( SO-03F) (and it have a 32 gb internal memory). And qualicom itself says that z2 support quick charge 2.0. ( well dont get confused over the terms quick charge and fast charge ( fast charging = 5v @ amps over 1 amp, possibly [email protected] 1.5 - 2 Amp and Quick charge 2.0 = 9/12 v at 1.5- 2amp, higher voltages).
I have tried with note 4 quick charger on z2 6503, but it charges in normal mode. So sony have possibly dissabled quick charge 2 on other varients of Z2 (why sony... Why!!!). But since hardwares of Japanese model and other region's models are possibly same ( except radio and memory???, or are they locked, since radio unlocking can be done in all sony phones), i think that the same quick charge chip is used in international models and possibly locked down.with software, may be we can enable it via some tricks???
My idea is:-
1) cross flash SO-03F FIRMWARE ON INTERNATIONAL MODEL
2) dissassemble kernal and other hardware drivers along with scripts ( cross matching them) and find out where the code is hidden/dissabled and copy that to use with international models.
So any possible idea, thoughts, disaster report is welcome.
I have 90% confidence in this, i need help and reports from kernel developers, can you guys just cross check the kernel of SO-03F with international varient like 6503?
Hope we can find it out since we have made great things like 4k and slow-motion port for z1, which is a different phone, but in this case 99% of hardware is same.
So pls help to dig this out..
I'm quite sure the QuickCharge is enabled somewhere in the kernel.
May be... But we dont know yet...

Basically, if you turn off a QC2.0 device and plug in the charger it still is going to charge at full speed. This means it has to be the kernel. Unless it uses some external drivers from the system, but I don't think that's the case here.
So u saying that quick charge still works when phone is off?

Well, I don't have a Z3 or a Z2 variant to test it, but I'm quite sure it does.
Any previous experience with any quick charge devices? Welll so we need the help of a kernel developer.. Seriously i have very lil knowledge about kernel development.. But i will look for sources to compare..

Well, I'll try to find out how it works after my exams
thank you mate. well i would love to get attention of all developers to this thread.
@AndroPlus would be most qualified guy for the job
Thank you for this thread, i would like to add something
The official indian website of Sony lists a fast charging mobile charger compatible for the Z2 http://www.sonymobile.com/in/products/accessories/quick-charger-ep881/
& i bought it, but it doesn't do anything as it claims.
Now i may be a little skeptical but i think that as i bought my device from China through ebay, maybe thats why im missing this feature.
P.S. The power output of the charger is 12W which makes it total legit as a quickcharger
Check the volatge and amp description of that charger, if it is 5 v @ some "x" amp, then its just normal charger with high capacy. Not quick charge 2.0, but if its 9 or 12 v its a quick charger.
EP881 is not UCH10 is. Link: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/quick-charger-uch10/

QuickCharge is enabled by default, so no tricks with kernel needed.
But, as I found out reading on xda, you also need compatible CABLE to be able to use quick charging. Apparently the standard data cables cannot push enough current through them. The compatible cable (which ships with some of the newer devices) is labeled as EC 802. And as far as I understood any cable which has those cylinders behind both ports on the cable, can do the job.

Uhm, what kind of cylinders?
If you mean those 1.5cm in diameter plastic coated things on both ends of the cable after the connector, thats simply Lead to reduce electromagnetic interference or such a thing. I have a cable with those USB 1.1 that's about 8-12 years old.
Guys pls dont try to suggest things if u dont know what are you talking about.. I did say its quick charge 2. Not fast charging or rapid charging or lighting charing or what ever... Quick charging is a new method adopeted by qualicom.. Its not about amp ratings.. Its a method through which battery is charged with more watts/hr. And its the voltage increase that does the trick, not current. I have said the difference in op post...!!!! I wish some development should be happen, not just talking..
Well well well..... Is it physically even possible for the non Japanese version? Maybe they've put another VRM on the PCB on the SO-03 revision which can handle 9v, and the international version does have an older chip?

I forgot to say any newer cable, surely not those 10y old. Try to do a research on quick charging, I really don't know much about it, but I have found some posts where people tested different cables with aftermarket quick chargers (those approved by Qualcomm) and confirmed that not all of them will work, specifically EC802 does, bot not 801 and 803 (which I have).

I know the basic difference, I have just shared that I have found info about cable compatibility, not just the charger itself. No need to be upset about it, I was just trying to help, dear God.
If any one of the members want to know the basics of quick charging and similar technology for our devices, read this article by androidpolice
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...-need-to-know-about-charging-your-smartphone/
Well one thing that is missed in the artcle... I will explain.
Normaly most rapid chargers/fast chargers ( not quick charger 2.0) like my sony oem Ep 880 which came bundled with z2( rated [email protected] = 7.5 w) and samsung model Eta-u90IWE which i use on my z2 normally ( rated [email protected] = 10 w) can charge z2 fastly ( using a belkin 2.5 mts usb cable) but neither is quick charger 2.0.
There are other oem chargers which are rated at 3amps or even 4.5 amps like asus transformer pad charger ( ie 5v at 3amp=15w or 5v at 4.5amp= 22.5w) but then too those are not quick chargers 2.0, since that article says that anything above 15(or18) watts is a quick charger 2.0, there will be a chance of miss conception.
Let me clear it, quick charging 2.0 chargers charge phone with higher voltage and below or equall to 2amps, thats how the wattage rating increses ( 9v @2 amps= 18 w 12v @2 amp = 24w) so be sure to check the volatge before choosing a quick charger. Any currents above 1.5 will do the trick if u have 9/12 v chager.

It should be compatible with the m8 but in my case charges at normal speed, does anybody know what's seem to be the problem?

There is not need to change or activate anything for QC 2.0 to work. Just plug it in and charge.
If its not charging any faster than the "normal" charger, you may have a defective QC charger. I've seen a few comments by various users on this forum about QC chargers not working properly (not any faster than the stock charger).
I have the Incipio QC charger. Just plugged it in, and it "just works". Charges faster than the stock wall charger, even when using navigation and screen on.
Just received the Moto G5 (UK unbranded version: Single Sim, 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 430).
Its unlocked, running LineageOS (7.1.2). Very happy with such a budget phone. The only problem is it charges slow. I am using a Qualcomm® certified charger, which has a blue LED for normal charging, that turns green when using Quick Charge. It works fine for my HTC phones. The Moto G5 seemingly doesn't work with Qualcomm's QC chargers?
Does the Moto G5 support Quick Charge 3.0 ? In theory it should do as the Snapdragon 430 does. Is it a firmware problem that is likely to be resolved, or just by design only to work with Motorola branded TurboPower™ chargers? It would be disappointing if that's the case.

After doing some reading heres some information
Quick charge & turbo charge are the same thing - its just manufacturers brand names
Both moto g5 & g5 plus phones support fast charging, with the Moto G5 coming with a 10W TurboCharge charger out of the box, and the G5 Plus with a 15W TurboCharge adapter.
The Motorola Turbo charger will charge the device at a faster rate when the device is below 78%. If the device is already at 78% or higher, it will charge at regular speed.
1% - 65% 53 mins
- 96% 1hr 33 mins
- 100% 1hr 52 mins
Currently as far as I can tell it's quick charge 2.0 although as you said in theory it can support 3.0 - Maybe a future firmware upgrade will allow this
I assumed it would it be same thing under a different silly brand name - it says on Motorola website that their ' TurboPower™ ' charger is in fact Quick Charge 2.0 - and works as such in other phones, so I can't see why Quick Charge certified chargers don't work with this phone.
Anyway it doesn't for me, so I am hoping it will be fixed in future firmware. I have emailed Motorola direct about it, I will see if they reply....
Am I write in thinking the only thing special about the quick charges is the wattage? Pin output being the same as good old changers?
I ask as I going to be fitting new plug sockets with high wattage USB ports in some locations around the house. Chargers are always going walkies in my house :crying:

No, Quick Charge™ uses the data + and - pins to negotiate and supply different voltages (3.6 V to 20 V) and currents to charge quickly. Its different to using a standard high wattage 5v outlet.
Moto & Lenovo said:
Thank you for contacting Moto & Lenovo.
The Moto G5 Plus supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 (and Motorola TurboPower™). However, the Moto G5 does not. It comes with a 10W rapid charger, but this is not the same as Quick Charge (or TurboPower™).
This is a hardware limitation. Not a firmware issue. Even though the Snapdragon™ 430 is capable of supporting Quick Charge, the phone itself is not.

leaves me a little lost then. If turbocharge is the same as quickcharge 2.0 then my charger that came with phone is not a turbocharge at all. It has a output rating of 5.2v.
Edit: didn't see last post as it was an old refresh I guess lol Didn't quite sink in when i seen rapid charge in the promo on there site.
I wish I did more research. I went for this phone for a budget Quick charge 64bit phone lol failed the other part was responsive and I still have that

Exactly the same. I saw "rapid charging" on their website and assumed with the fact it has a Snapdragon 430 processor, it would support Quick Charge 3.0. No idea why they have chosen not to support it Never mind, it's still a decent enough slow charging phone running Android 7.1.2, for the money.
i just bought the mrs one for xmas and dont think its has a fast charger with it...
charger just says 5v 2ah like normal chargers?
Hello Everyone,
I am looking for a dash charger for z2plus , I just used my friends OP5 dash charger for z2 plus it works like a champ. But OP5 dash charger is expensive like 2k, any other suggestions on chargers ??
Thanks in Advacne !
I would say.. don't go for anything except original charger.. it can fry some important diodes on your board and I am not kidding happened to me twice...
First time, battery was empty, and phone never woke up, I had just installed custom rom maybe because of that...
Second, exchanged phone, new phone, stock everything.. and it happened again..
Then I realized it was because of the 3t charger...
Read few posts, and found out if used some qc 3 chargers it can fry the diodes cx68 something..
Better read those post before investing money...
Nonsense! QC tech and Dash Charge tech are totally different. If used, any oneplus dash charger will charge your Z2+ like a normal charger and not any faster. Dash Charge Tech is Oneplus's Proprietary and won't work on any other company phones. And Regard to Best QC3 Chargers, Only and Only buy & use Qualcomm approved QC chargers. They are tested by Qualcomm and will almost never cause any issues. The List of approved chargers can be found on Qualcomm's website.

The Zuk Z2 plus cannot quick charge (No QC2/QC3), atleast yet. Some say the hardware isn't present in the device but i believe with the other group that say it's locked in kernel. In the Fans page, a dev has posted a mod to enable QC 9V charging on kernel level. If you or anyone has QC charger feel free to try it (UNDER YOUR OWN RISKS). At Stock Charging Capabilities, the device can charge with 5.25V 2.5A max. You don't need QC chargers for this, the lenovo charger that comes in box is more than enough.
zukfans.eu/ community/ threads/ request-quick-charge-support-qc-3-0.2526/
1.5A on screen en 2.5A off screen all by 5V are the best charge number the z2 plus can do, so it does charge good but it's doesn't benefit from a dash or quickcharger like one plus phones do.
Quickcharging is charging at higher voltages for the same or sometimes even more amps. and since A*V= Watts you put more and faster the power in your battery
I am really upset with my htc 10. It's battery is not okay. Yes it does charging so fast, but It lose charge so fast too.
What is the main problem of it???
And I use a normal HTC 3 pin Charger. I don't have qualcomm 3.0. And its difficult to found in my country.
Can I use Xiaomi Charger 3.0 for my HTC???
Don't know about the Xiaomi charger, although in theory, any certified Quick Charge 3 charger should work (as long as you use a good cable). And the phone is backwards compatible with older charging technology.
I am using my old HTC charger from the ONE V. It is just a normal 5V 1.0 A charger (USB 2.0 spec) and it worked. (I am doing that since I don't need the quick charge, and I figure the slower charging with lower battery temp might prolong its life.) A Quick Charge 2 charger (Samsung), and a USB 3.0 fast charger (5V, 2.4 A) also worked in my case.
