I have a Joying RK3188 with Malaysk's rom.
I have a 32gb usb thumb drive plugged into one of the usb cables I have ran into my glovebox. When I plug it into either one, it won't mount and immediately says "OK to remove media". I go into settings - storage and attempt to mount it and it just says "Safe to remove media". I'm wanting to use this for music with PowerAmp.
I've searched different keywords and cannot find the solution to this.
Formatted FAT32 right? Just making sure. I use a 64gb with no problems.
I have similar experiance with xtrons td101a.which has 3 of external usb cable from back and one at front panel. And each of them can mount USB strage anytime but 3 of back USB enable to mount only one storage as "USB2".This means HU recognize
front USB as "USB1" and 3 of back USB each of them are all "USB2".There is no "USB3" exist I believe. So this is not problem it's a specification of huifei type HU.I hope you can understand my poor english

I've got an GT-P7500, and it will not read any USB Sticks.
Using the Samsung connection kit.
tried with 15 different USB sticks, all FAT32 formatted, all sizes 1-16gb.
A friend uses a 4gb stick in a GT-P7510, i tested that one, didn't work
Other things like usb mouse works, but not usb stick.
Anyone got any suggestions ?
Wonder if there is something wrong with it.
How do you know it isn't working? What directory are you looking at? What does the notification bar show? Which connector are you using? Is USB debugging on?
Also this is more a Q/A...
I'm hoping this thread is still alive because I am having the same problem. @ajnindlo I'm using the standard Samsung USB Connector with a 8gb usb stick. I've tried with USB Debugging on & off and I get the same message. "Damaged USB" and asked me to reformat.
I am using a Mac BUT I did format the stick as a ms-dos fat format.
Please help...
Thank you
PS. I know this is more of a q&a place, didn't know where else to post and didn't find any other with this problem but here. Please redirect to correct location if you know of a solution. Thank you

I had a 32 GB sd card and it also wouldn't be detected by my Galaxy Tab. But, I plugged it into my phone, plugged my phone into the computer, formatted the sd card and when I put in my Gtab, it worked.
I got my connection kit today but its not working at all.
Got 2 adaptors 1 for sd card and 1 for usb connection they both dont work.
Got no status bar message or anything.
Do I miss something here?

one catch that I have realized is that for proper identification of the USB Stick, the tablet must be in english language.
My friend had a hard time figuring out why his tablet won't show up any notification when a USB Stick was connected, whereas mine shows the "My Files" app showing the storage folder and all the contents of the stick, joking around I told him that was because my tablet was in english and his tablet was not.
Anyway, Astro file explorer doesn't work with USB Sticks, Use ES File Explorer instead and look in /mnt/ folder for usbdrive , there should be your content.
Nope still not working. No files found.
Feels like my device doesnt support usb host.
Is that possible?

Connect the usb stick, open ES File explorer and go to /mnt/usbdrive folder, if you can't find the folder (which is not on the sdcard) you need to configure ES File explorer to get out of the sdcard directory, the usbdrive folder is always present even if you don't have any usb drive connected
I had similiar problems with my 16GB P7510. It would only recognize any of my Sandisk sticks and a brand new PNY only at 30% of the time. The only stick it was reliable with was an ancient 256MB stick I had. I worked fine with my camera.
I ended up returning it for a 32GB P7510 and have not had any problems with any of the sticks. At the time I didn't think the tablet was defective but it appears it was.

I have exact the same issue, but it's strange, some SD has this issue, some don't.
"Damaged USB"
I found a trick, but it solved my problem only once: format SD card by a digital camera (Canon powershot) , SD was now recognized by Tab10.1
Putting some extra files on it by PC ... insert SD to Tab10.1 ... same issue again :crying:
Have tried several SD formats & sizes ... notting helps
Did someone knows a solution to solve this problem

Android 3.2
Rooted, TASK 14 Rom
Try to reboot, it worked for me.

Correct ... but after a second or third time connecting same SD , issue returns
Have tried this, waiting for a while does helps time to time ... so I guess it's maybe "memory" or "kernel" (system) related.
It seems we have the same TASK14 ROM + Pershoot's kernel.
Strange things.
I made the test by unroot my device and went back to factory stock ... it look like the issue is solved for 90% ... it appears when you disconnect and reconnect to fast after the 1st disconnection .
usb not recognised
Nothing happens when i plug (several) usb sticks. /mnt/usbdrive is empty.
Any idea?
charging Problem
You must Check that Your usb Debugging is On or Not as it creates problems and this will be stopping You device from Accepting Usb Sticks..
I found that FAT 'sdCard's would mount , but that NONE of my NTFS sticks would mount
All my sticks are NTFS , so that was unacceptable.
rooted 7500 and 6800
Installed 'Paragon NTFS&FHS', from the AndroidMarket and all files now popup in 'MyFiles' when I insert the usb with the adaptor
I have the Samsung Connection Kit containing as USB and a SD adapter. The USB adapter works fine, but the SD adapter doesn't work at all. All it does is starting the TuneIn Radio app when it is connected. I uninstalled the app and now connecting the adapter has no effect at all. Any suggestions?
So, just got my GN and loaded up some music on it and synced my Play library.
Drove to work this morning without any music because the USB mount options are for Media (MTP) or Camera (PTP) which, I guess, my Pioneer head unit cannot support. Is there a way to just have it mount as USB storage? I thought that Camera option would be the "old school" USB mount but I guess not.
The phone itself is stock - I have not made any modifications to kernel or rom yet.

No. The Galaxy Nexus does not support USB mass storage mode. If your head unit can't do MTP or bluetooth, you're out of luck.
There are several threads on the topic you can search for if you want the details on why this is, but it basically comes down to the fact that the phone has no separate /sdcard storage inside - it's all one big chunk of flash memory and can't be mounted as mass storage because the phone is already using it (would be kind of like trying to plug a hard drive into two computers at once). Other phones with a real SD card or separate /sdcard storage (Nexus S) disconnect this from the phone so another device can mount it.
Hey Guys,
last time i bought an usb otg cable. I want to use it with my Gnex but i mounted it and in the file manager nothing appears. I tried several tools(stickmount, paragon ntfs). All time the directory is empty. Must i format it with exfat or another file system. My hard drive is 500gb large, ntfs formated and needs a second usb cable for power input(but i dont think thats the problem)
Thanks
I never had any luck trying to connect my external 500GB HDD to the Gnex. I asked the same question but never got any confirmation of anyone successfully making this connection, hopefully you have better luck than me. Subscribed.
I doubt the GNex puts much power out of its usb. Probably not enough for a HDD.
The power is not the problem, the device is already "mounted" but in the directory there is showing nothing... I googled for an hour or so but found no solution, hopefully my new ordered usb stick can do this

One of the reason it's not showing up could be the formatting in your drive,
most drives are NTFS which isn't recognized by GNex (don't know about other android devices).
Try formatting in FAT and let us know what happens, it should hopefully work than.
I am unable to connect my Xperia S with external storage as I brought 3 different otg cables and all of them are not working, Please can anyone tell me where can I find OTG cable that surely works with Xperia S. I m from India

what capacity btw?
When you connect a pendrive, usually either of 2 things happen:
1.) shows that external storage is connected, details can be seen in settings>storage, external storage. file access needs to be done using a file manager app.
2.) shows, device power consumption error. meaning, ur pendrive consumes lot of power than the phone can provide. solution to this is to use a new pendrive or thru a externally powered usb hub.
Its of 8GB. The phone doesnt show any sign of connected pen drive and even the external storage option in "storage" is greyed out
thanks

hmm, I dont c wat is wrong, try another pendrive, prefarably of a different model or brand and of smaller capacity.
else it shud be a problem with the cable.
I had bought a general OTG cable from Ebay

You can use "StickMount" app to mount USB storage , incase your phone is not detecting the USB device. The only issues is that the app needs a rooted device. so if your mobile is rooted then you are good to go.
StickMount isnt helping either
try connecting a usb mouse and/or keyboard..
if it works, try a different pendrive, else then maybe u can blame the OTG cable or ur phone...
I made my own OTG cable using an old regular micro cable that I no longer needed. I believe you need to "jump" pin four to pin five....but you would be best researching it. I recall it being extremely easy to do, but then again I do have years of experience ripping stuff apart and putting it back together.

Also, I don't think drive size is an issue as I've connected a 2TB full size external hard-drive (the kind with a power brick) and was able to use it just fine. It was NTFS formatted so I did have to use USB OTG Helper to get it working, but it did work with no problems.
I'm running the latest version of malaysk rom. I have a patriot 64gb usb 3.0 drive and a Seagate slim 2tb drive. The head unit has two usb cables on the back, both individually they work fine, but when I plug one in after the other, the second drive doesn't mount. I've tried stickmount, paragon and any other mounting apps in the app store and I've tried searching through the forums but the search is giving me some trouble. What I'm hoping to be able to do is leave the 2tb drive filled with my music in the car and only load my 64gb stick with the latest music or videos. In the settings it shows only the first drive mounted and it shows it as "shared memory". The second drive mount option is dark and doesn't allow me to mount it. Any suggestions?
anyone?

Again, use search. It's been discussed so many times already. If you have used search, you would have found
some people are trying to solve that problem. Nothing yet AFAIK.
I've been searching, I've only found one other mention of it with a developer bringing up the question and attempting to solve it and that thread was posted after my original question.
