Hello guys,
A friend of mine just bought nexus 5 from some guy at a cheap price the only problem with the phone was its wifi & Bluetooth was not working so my friend changed some IC's and still the problem persists now he has handed his phone over to me(I love fixing things) for few weeks to fix the problem. I don't know whether the problem is related to hardware or with the OS I'm thinking to root the phone and install CM 13 and see whether it fixes the problem.
What else would you guy's suggest ? Where could possibly the problem lie?
Your suggestions are most welcomed.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Is this a Nexus 5X with a fingerprint sensor or Nexus 5? I'd say start from a clean slate with the factory image then decide if it's hardware or software related.

Sorry, I posted in wrong section its Google nexus 5 not 5x.
Where can I find factory image?
Also, how should I figure out what the problem might be?
Can I go for CM instead of stock ROM?
Thanks for reply.

Factory images: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en
I've never owned the Nexus 5 but for any phone I'd go back to stock and test out the phone. I suggest resetting the router, upgrading the software, or changing frequencies with WiFi. For BT, try pairing with another device and see if it works.
If WiFi and BT are not connecting even after a factory reset and install of the factory image, that's likely a hardware problem.

I guess to even install stock image I'll need to unlock bootloader and root it and install the stock image or should I root and install other ROM's like PURE LEXUS...etc.

That's up to you. Maybe it is software related and easily fixable via custom rom? I'm sure people in the Nexus 5 forums would be better informed.

Have you simply tried to open the back cover and see if the antenna's are properly connected? There are 2 (left and right of the battery). If that checks out then i would unlock the bootloader and install the latest factory image. Installing another ROM like Pure or whatever doesn't guarantee it's a software or hardware issue. Best troubleshooting step is to use the latest stock rom and go from there.

I don't know why it does that, I'm sure someone else does. But I would suggest rooting and install a ROM. That should take care of it.

Thank you for your advice. i have considered flashing ROM but i do not want to errase all my data. If i can get a solution for this problem, that will be great. can this be something related to software confliction?

So, backup your data first. If you have a PC, you can use Helium to backup your apps and data to your PC, you don't need root either. And you can just use MTP to transfer your /sdcard to a folder on your PC.

i did and after a few days use, the problem occurs again. now i have flashed the stock ROM, and the wifi goes well. but i dont know whether the same problem will appear again.
As others have said-install a custom ROM, I'd suggest something close to stock. If the device keeps acting strangely, and the problem occurs again, relock the boot loader, restore to stock(all can be done with Wug's toolkit)and send it for repair, as the problem might be faulty hardware.
How long have you been facing this issue? Once it's grayed out, can you turn it on/off, or is it stuck until you reboot? Are you using a custom kernel? Is the device rooted?

This happened to me once, on an unstable rom, but on stock is kinda weird.
Hello,
I am having issues with TWRP on my Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi Only.
I have used TWRP before, but only on my Nexus 6. I am trying to use TWRP to wipe my Nexus 7 so I can install a custom rom. However, every time I try to wipe it just fails. I do not know why. The only thing I noticed, is that TWRP asks me for permissions to modify when I boot recovery on my Nexus 6, however it is NOT asking me when I boot recovery on my Nexus 7. I have a felling this is why, but I can not get it to ask for permission to modify.
Any idea?
I am clueless right now. How come I had zero issues with everything I have done on my Nexus 6, now I get a Nexus 7 and I can't even get the thing to wipe.... wtf?
EDIT: I just realized how DEAD the Nexus 7 (2013) area of XDA is.... I'm not having a very good start with mine. Hmmm
Is your N7 rooted? What do you mean with wipe? Downloaded a ZIP with a ROM and flashed it in TWRP?

Try flashing twrp again and then try wiping again
Hi I've had the nexus for just over a month now running on MM 6.1 since its updated the keyboard on one side won't type. Also the device keeps locking itself when I try to unlock it it freezes and goes on a black screen then I have to turn it on and off to get it to work again. Has anyone else had this problem? And is there a way to fix it? I've tried a factory reset which works for a few days then it starts again. Thanks
Hey guys,
just flashed CM13 on my Nexus 5X. For some reason, everytime I reboot the phone, the following notification pops up "There’s an internal problem with your device. Contact your manufacturer for details.".
The phone is working fine tho, but this notification is kinda making me a bit worried. Is something actually wrong with my device? Has anyone had the same issue and got rid of it somehow?
Please let me know if you do so, or if you have some clues for me to fix that.
Thank you very much.

There are quite some similar topics on the internet on different Nexus devices. Some reflashing did help, some talk about vendor.img being wrong. Would recommend flashing something from scratch to validate in deed it is caused by the ROM itself

Thanks for your reply. I saw some fixes for the Nexus 9, but wasn't quite sure if it works for the Nexus 5X as well. Maybe someone else has a different idea to how to fix this problem? I just flashed CM and put all my apps/data back on my phone, so I'd like to try reflashing something as a last resort ^^ Putting all my stuff back on it is quite a hassle

This message occurs when you have a mismatched Vendor partition on the Nexus 5x and 6P. This is a separate partition that was once included in the system on previous Nexus devices. Flash the vendor.img that matches your rom base. You can download the factory image from Google and inside that 1+ GB file, you will find the vendor.img.
Edit: Alternatively, you can download the Vendor.img from the OP of the Pure Nexus thread and flash this in TWRP:

Make sure to thank that developer if you do.

Thanks man, gonna try that out.
Hi,
A few hours ago I randomly got into a some kind of bootloop. It's not the "normal" bootloop where simply the boot animation is played forever. Instead my boot continues afterwards like normal until there's this short black screen before entering your SIM's pin card. This never appears and it begins again with the "Your bootloader is unlocked. Please lock it...."-message.
I already flashed the Factory Image twice via the ADB console on my PC and Wugfresh's Toolkit.
Additionally I can't seem to acess the stock recovery, the "red android guy" never appears and it only reboot itself after choosing the recovery in Fastboot Mode.
Any help is appreciated!

Try to flash TWRP, in TWRP wipe every partition and then try to flash the stock image again

It seems like your partitions are messed up, did you tried to flash it via the flash-all script that is included in the stock image zip file?

OK, I now tried the flash-all script with the newest factory image drectly from Google but still the same issue.
I'll now contact Lg to at least try to get a RMA because I think I tried the most solutions.
If there's anyone that has another Idea, feel free to post it here

Yea, that would be the best idea. Maybe it's slowly getting into that "classic" bootloop, which everyone talks about

I got a very interesting update on my issue.
My phone worked for a few minutes now, it booted normally and I could even set it up completely. But now it's the same problem again so I more and more think it could be faulty hardware.
Anyways I contacted LG for a RMA and we'll what happens.
Thanks for your help

You'll get the RMA, that is a hardware failure.
Last Update:
LG accepted my RMA request and I'll send them it ASAP.
Thank you everyone for helping me!
I'll mark this thread as solved.

Little OT, but how long have you had your 5X? It looks like all the 5x's are just time bombs in case of that hardware bootloop. I'm thinking about selling my 5x and buying something that will not die on me some day.

I bought my Nexus in December 2015 so around 2 1/2 years ago. It's a nice phone never had any serious problems with it except now.
Been having a recurring issue with a Nexus 7 (2013). After the 6.0.1 update, the device works great. However, if you power it off or restart or if the battery dies, upon restart it shows the startup colored balls and shows a message saying optimizing apps. And it stays that way permanently.
Doing a hard reset and a reformat corrects the issue (losing everything of course). However if the device is shut off again, the same issue occurs.
Otherwise the device runs great for a month at a time.
I googled this issue and there are literally hundreds of folks that had this issue. However, I read a bunch of threads and it doesn't seem like anyone had any actual solutions other than a reformat.
Is there a solution for this other than not going to 6.0.1? Seems pretty ridiculous that an update would break a device.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, there is no solution. The only way to fix is to replace the Motherboard. This costs ca. 40-60$ and is really simple. Take a look at Ifixit for a how to. There are some threads here, please use the search function.
I've tried to use the search function with zero success.
So this is a hardware issue? I bought the device new recently and it is under warranty.
Also how can it be a hardware issue with only Android 6.0.1? 5.1.1. works fine, can reboot as needed. Only when I move it up to 6, does the restart issue occur. Defective hardware can be present in only certain versions of Android?

This is the recent post. Some devices got an Hardware brick after updating to 6.0.1...like my device.
If you have warranty try to change the device.
Hmm, interesting. However, I can reboot and reformat it easily enough (losing all content in the process). Is this the case with the unit being bricked?
