TMobile Note 5 port (N920T) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Has anyone tried to port the N920T to the N900T? If this is done would the wifi-calling and NFC be broken to even though it's a TMobile rom?
Can I bake this myself? I know there are instructions, but I find them a bit confusing when they start talking about using a ASOP base and the such. Is there a REALLY good tutorial on this?

There is not really going to be an easy tutorial for porting the N920T ROM to the N900T and have everything working. Wi-Fi calling is one thing that everyone's had trouble with.
If you use any AOSP bases, then it won't be a Note port at all. You'd loose the S Pen features entirely unless you add stuff like S Pen Helper. AOSP and TouchWiz are two completely different animals.

You see, now that was GREAT ADVICE! Thank you so VERY Much! I found a a detailed tutorial here : , but some of the files that require changing or replacing are obsolete now.
It seems I should simply be able to Replace some files, Delete some files and modify the buildprop...and be good to go, but apparently it's not that simple.
Listen..I KNOW you are a busy man, but if you could just review the link, give me your VALUED opinion, I'll saddle up and "Get'er Done!"
Maybe it'll be easier to take an existing N5 Port and ...maybe Throw the Key software into the N920T port ?
Somehow I just feel like if it's MADE for Tmobile there's a better chance of NFC and Wifi-calling .

Yeah man no prob. I'll check out the tut they have written up. I personally haven't ported an entire TW ROM, but I know it's not all rainbows and unicorns trying to do it. Haha
I've ported apps and cooked up some AOSP ROM's but like I said, that's a whole different animal than TW. There is a lot of difference in the frameworks, SystemzUI, and a crap ton of different lib files.
On the part about it being made for T-Mobile, I'm not aware of an actual T-Mobile N920T for the N900T right now.
You could try starting with our Team DomPop ROM and add stuff to try getting the Wi-Fi Calling up and going. I can try and help you out some when I get time. Right now we're on the s7 Edge port.
Go to the T-Mobile Note 3 development section and click on our ROM. You can get the Note 5 port from the OP.

I've got the DomPop, and it is a GREAT port, but the international doesn't have wifi-calling, and the NFC doesn't work. I've got the stock N920T rom, N900T and DomPops N5 Port...I just don't know what files to add or purge. I don't have a problem with modifying .jar files if I have to. I just need to know where to start.

I've been doing some research on how to get Wi-Fi calling working and I can find anything. No wonder there isn't a ROM port with it working yet Haha. I will keep searching and if I come across something or figure it out myself I will definitely let you know. That would be a great thing to figure out. I would be able to add it to our ROM as well.

I really believe the reason it doesn't work is because EVERYONE is using the International for porting. No one is porting the N9XXT. I'm going to start SMALL and simple. I'll find a way to port the N910T...and work my way up.

Development for AOSP- progess in AT&T section!

I think our development fora should be linked with the other 7105 variants, there is significant progress towards CM10 and other AOSP in the AT&T forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018411
But, since there are four (ours, international 7105, AT&T, and Sprint), the devs are scattered, when unity would breed much more success. Our accessories is already linked, how about a linked development (not just the unused developers only forum) or moving threads like this to the linked dev forum? Either way, maybe this will help bring attention to the progress that has been made.
As long as i get aosp before the verizon or sprint varients. Glad to know progress is being made.

This isn't and shouldn'tbe about first, besides once one 7105 variant has a working device tree, we all do.
I am trying to get an idea of what the differences are between the phones. From what I gather so far is there is the international 7105 and its variants which are the tmo att and sprints versions and they are all gsm? Then there is the 7100 international and its variant which would be Verizon and they are cdma? But I thought that sprint was cdma carrier so wouldn't the sprint be in with the 7100 version?
From what I understand the physical and specs are the same for all the phones and the hardware is the same except the radio difference between the two. so the software is the major difference. I know on my last phone the sgs2 the att and tmo versions were almost identical twins the two were able to use roms interchangeably without porting except for minor kernel differences. In the end the only problem was the rotation was messed up. and it was fixed by using a the kernel that was native to the device. Like if you used a att rom on a tmo phone you had to use a tmo kernel with it. and also finally someone came up with a flashable .zip fix for it. The .zip fixed the rotation and also the build.prop so that the right device was in the build.prop. So that is what I foresee here in this situation. It will take time but it will happen. I know that we got some real good devs on the tmo side I haven't checked out the other variants yet but I am sure they got some real good devs too. A phone like this was bound to attract top quality people ( and schmucks like me too) I would definitely like to see a dev only subforum for all the devices or even a forum it doesn't have to be a sub forum because then the info will be fragmented because which forum do you put it in tmo, att, sprint, international. I say make a 7105 variant dev only forum for them to talk and work out some kick ass stuff. Like AOSP and cm and of course the ultimate AOKP. And whatever else they come up with.
7105 = international LTE
Variants include:
AT&T
T-mobile
Sprint
Verizon
7100 = international GSM
7102 = Chinese GSM/CDMA dual SIM
Differences include radio hardware/software.

Coming from HTC since the beginning of my smartphone career... I'd don't know jack about Samsung, Odin, and some other differences but isn't there a way to compile roms without the radio lol? Thta would fix alot. I'm sure there might be various issues between carriers but it should work. I get cmda and dual sim models would be different but at&t model should be able to share. As someone meantioned before, once at&t subforum has their branch... we will too. It just seems that mods separated the forums to cut down on confusion for the end user but it hurts development collaboration between development and hurts the end users who read directions and don't flash stuff blindly. I'm just not used to seeing all this talent wasted by being segregated like this. Obviously there is a reason I'm not seeing... whether due to total incompatibility or something else. It couldn't be that simple, could it?! In the meantime, I'm gonna continue to read up on Samsung development and see if there is anything I can do to contribute... no matter how small or insignificant

there is a way to compile without radios, most of the ROMs do not have radios, or they are optional. Problem is since the radio hardware is different, the kernel needs to be recomplied for the 7105/variants. I will say if they get it on 7105 then AT&T, T-mobile, and Sprint should be easy to get working (sprint would require blobs, T-Mo and AT&T should work out of the box. Verizon would work only if they 1) crack the bootloader or 2) make a special k-sec version of the rom. There is a new dev section that crosses all boards so that should help the devs some. Basicaly if we get 7105 AOSP we get TMO/AT&T/Sprint and possibly Verizon.
I saw on g+ that they got a bootoble version of cm 10 on the note 2 I do not know which model and it was not a dd but it boots. That is a promising sign. We will have it soon. I cant wait. For now I am sticking with stock until a working aokp comes out. That is what I did with my sgs2 when we got ics. I didnt even bother rooting it till aokp came out.

Yes you can. Flash the cm10 floating around but be sure to flash the T-Mobile modem. I won't brick if you forget to but the reception/ signal will be much better. I'm using it as my daily driver. Its fast and amazing.

To my understanding, yes, you can. I myself am on NOTEorious Prime rom which is based on the N7105 firmware but was made for ATT, all needed to do is flash the Tmo radio to get data and since I like to overclock my devices I also flashed the Note2Core kernel which will work with N7100 and N7105 roms; and on top of that I flashed an AOSP theme made by foreverloco since I can't stand Touchwiz. Overall, the UI looks clean just like AOSP (but of course, it ain't the same:crying but you can also see some elements of Touchwiz here and there...
I mean, this is just for now until a more stable port of cm10 shows up for our Note2, like you, I also like to have a clean rom and not layer upon layer upon layer.

How is the audio working out for you so far? I read they were having issues before... Have you tried flashing a third party kernel? If so, which one?
Thanks.

Audio seems to work fine. You have to make 2 phone calls upon boot in order for calls to work correctly And in the beginning of a call it sounds really low so you have to toggle the volume during a call and the. It will be regular and loud again. Otherwise seems to run great. I didn't flash any modems or extra kernels besides updated one that was in the thread.

I wish our note 2's had as much love as the sgs3's

I was talking paper release, hoss which IIRC was May-ish. But that is by memory after 1/2 an Irish Ale.
Besides, I'm allowed to round up at the half year point anyhow. Uncle Sam wants rounded dollar figures sent to the IRS, so I can do it too.

Yeah but being out on paper does nothing for development. So it really doesn't count until it's released since you can't very well develop for a device when you don't have access to it or its firmware and sources.

Ya wanna count access to rooting, ROMs, and firmware...well our Note2 has had dev activity for less than half the amount of time the S3 had. Any way ya slice it, the N2 is a new device without even a stable Cyanogen or AOKP yet. Once Cyanogen hits a stable, we'll probably see more action. We'll also see more action when Sammy/Sprint finally get 4.2 officially to us.
im not saying im ungrateful for the developers we have i thing they are awesome and i love there work im just saying its seems like the s3 has a new rom every week and i think its just because its cheaper and more mainstream then our phones. but i our phones are so much nicer and so much faster. it jkust seams like theres more developers over there then here.
Let's see....
Official CM 10.1? Check.
TWRP? Check
CWM? N7100 works but I'm working on a L900 specific one now.
AOSP builds? Quite a few unofficials out there as well.
TW themed ROMs? Also quite a few out there.
Not sure what you're looking for... but chances are it's here or on the way if requested.
just more choices in roms like how many different lk8 roms are there just saying i think theres a lot more roms for s3 then ours seems like more developers over there i wish there were more over here.

No I'm not saying we don't have the different roms, just saying its seems we don't have the amount of updates and variety that the s3 has. I'm very thankful for what we have. I just feel they have more developers and thats my question is why our far superior phone doesn't have as many developers.
A lot will change whenever we get an OTA. Hopefully soon.

it's simple demographics. the device simply doesn't have as many users.
that being said, I know many SG3 owners with buyers remorse, once they see the GN2. even a few that exchanged them. and a dev or two that snapped one up when they played with one.
we get plenty of love.
ROMS are either AOSP based or Touchwiz based. This phone has two official OTA's, the one that came on it and LJC or whatever. If your looking for touchwiz, it will be based on the code from one of those two or a leak. If your looking for AOSP, its going to be based on CM10, or 10.1 plus whatever else you like. Either way, all the ROMS are based off one of two different sources and just added themes and/or tweaks. I personally am fond of AOSP, so I play with those all the time. What kind of ROM do you want that we dont have? Sense? Blur? Good luck getting any of that on a Samsung. I have to agree with garwynn, we have CM10.1, AOKP, Liquid, Carbon, Paranoid, Baked, etc., plus the Touchwiz stuff. I think the devs we have on this phone are doing a pretty freaking amazing job so far. What ROM(s) are you looking for?

Thats the thing though, they are all the same rom, just themed different and there might be a few extra tweaks in it. I use AOSP because there is a lot more you can do with it, and there are a ton of themes available for it. Being a themer myself, I will mix and match different theme apks to make a theme I like. I think that it would be worth while for you to start venturing into themes and how to do it. If you learn how to use the Vertimus universal method, it makes themeing a lot easier because you dont have to recompile each time you change an image, etc.
I really hope Samsung and Google back off and allow cyanogen and aokp to have multiwindow type functionality. Now that we have an overclocking kernel and tethering on stock based roms there's less of an incentive to move to. CM until Samsung drops support. Not having multiwindow would really suck, maybe Google will put in aosp
I really wish this thread would be locked just as fast as other have been before it.

[LINK][ROM][WIP][PORT]Docomo SC-02E (GN2) Port to Sprint

This is purely a pet project - but I figure if I'm going to be playing around with it I might as well post the work for others to play with. Initial post will be just the stock ROM but keep an eye as I'll start putting my tweaked versions here when I get them stable enough for others to try.
[ROM][WIP][PORT]Docomo SC-02E (GN2) Port to Sprint (SXTP Develoeprs)
Will be a fun exercise of playing around with 2 different versions of TW ROMs to get the best of both into one.
Enjoyed this when I tried the Boost merge to Sprint for later ICS builds on the E4GT.
And any Japanese speaking/reading individuals may find this much better than that KDDI "Nihongo On!" app.
I don't think I need to say it but I will....

I think this might be great. There are a lot of features found in other NOTE2's out there that would be great to have in one mega rom.
I hope you can post how you make updates and modifications. I myself would like to try and port over the VZ version's ability to properly handle group messaging.

Just thought I'd mention this.
Got it very stable, backed up and switched back to Sprint.
Then switched back to this after formatting system, data, cache and dalvik.
Still goes into boot loop.
So I have to find a way to resolve that before I go much farther.
If I can't resolve it my next direction will be to gut what I can from here and drop into a sprint TW ROM.
Bring it on Homie :good:

Challanging all DEVS

Ok so here we go. There are a whole lot of fantastic ROMS out there. But how come none have the whole package. I've seen roms out there with multiview; some with page buddy; some with the Note 2 keyboard, etc. But none with them all.
Is this hard to do. If i could learn how to develop roms i sure would make this. Maybe this is impossible, maybe not.
So here is the challenge: (and its probably not a challange)
We have MB1 odexed and deodexed. That can be our base. after that we can implemnt a number of tested and working mods, to include, but not limited to the ones outlined above. After that we can use morphology or whatever app we want to theme and customize this rom. Not everyone likes the Note 2 keyboard or multiview. But some of us like them all. Or maybe just want them just because we can have them.
So what do you think. Please, if you read this leave a response telling what you would love to have in your rom. Maybe we can get a rom call something like your rom that all the devs can contribute to based on this thread.
THANKS:laugh:

I challenge you to learn to spell challenge and also to just get a Rom with most of them, and the rest are available with simple flash mods.

correct you are and i just noticed the spelling. sorry.
However correct as you are. Im gonna give you a scenario:
I am on a rom now that has the note 2 keyboard, great battery life, and overall is a great rom. But i tried to flash the multiview mod and it broke the contacts and dialer. The mod worked but after i installed i couldnt dial a number to call out. Dirty flased the rom and all is well now, but no multiview.
I was on another rom. It had multiview and page buddy, but no note 2 keyboard. Now when i flashed the note 2 keyboard mod, it didnt work. The mod seemed to work for international only, not ours.
I am something like a noob although ive been flashing since the first galaxy s1 and i have had all three since then and other galaxy variants. I just think this would be a fun project for us ALL to work on and it would be something that wouldnt end.
Sorry if i offended you with my spelling and/or my challEnge.

you know what guys... nevermind. Everyone making me feel stupid. I was just thinking that it would be a way to incorporate all the WORKING mods in one place as opposed to all over xda. Instead i get a bunch of people making me feel stupid. I found zips for the note 2 keyboard but none of them worked for the us version. Thanks though for the link to the one that came out last week.
I remember when i first signed up for xda i read somewhere that everyone in the forum is friendly.
Anyway ill leave the thread up for a few hours then ill take it down. I supposed i offended quite a few people with my stupid idea.

It's not that it's a stupid idea, just it's been asked a million times before. What happens is that devs bust there butts for free to give us roms. It's not easy being a dev. I'm not a dev by any means but I know it's not easy.
p.s. Don't say you don't know anything about being a dev, send out a challenge then use words like "we" and "our" when you would have no actual dev help.

Don't worry about it, man. Truth is, many people on xda are no talent assholes that get their jollies by berating others. I'm not sure why its the case.
I think this is a good idea but I also agree with strongsteve, perhaps you could try to build it yourself. I have thought to myself, if only I could have a ROM with x, y and z it would be perfect. However, I'm far too busy to learn coding and ROM building right now so I make do with what's available.
I know how you feel about the people around here, I asked a simple question about a certain mod in a ROM thread and was belittled and basically ostracized from that specific community. I don't let it bother me after all, at the end of the day its just an internet forum about phones.

This.... Is the reason that people get so irritated here. This isnt a solution to the issue the person posted... A proper response isnt just telling the op to learn to code. You are on a forum that you are obviously quite active on, providing helpful responses seem to be the common thing to do.
I understand where the op is coming from, and i have ran into this issue many times with many different roms across many phones. Heres my solution to you. Rather then use your base rom as a stock unodexed rom. Would i seem to find to be the best workaround would be to use CM as your base. You are far more likely to have the CM Team push out a version of CM to which ever device you are using. From there you can request certain features and mods tailored to CM. You can then create a supplemental mod section for that version of CM, similar to how we have a morphology section, and have a list of flashables. If you are decent enough you can even create a kitchen or make an updater just for cm that flashes these mods. From there you can create individual titanium backups and re-flash those backups each time you update your CM version.
Your issue that you have with certain roms only being tailored to certain people isnt new. This is the "advantage" that apple fanboys seem to boast about is how all the Iphones can download Any program that anyother stock Iphone has. They claim Fragmentation i call it tailored preferencing. I personally find the note keyboard bulky and i hate it, i am true to swype as im more familiar with it so regardless the rom im on i always just install my swype APK.
I figure this would help out a bit, although i provided no clear solution other then say its a bit easier to tailor a mod to a rom then a rom to a mod.

Thanks for this post. I didnt think anyone would understand where i was comming from. I wasnt asking for a rom, just for maybe a thread or somthing with all possible mods. That way we could use what we want. I personally like the note keyboard, page buddy, and multiview. But there arent any roms out there with all three. And until I made this thread i couldnt find a working note 2 keyboard that worked for our us versions.:good:

Tbo having a thread dedicated to mods is a great idea that way it would be easier to find mods your looking for it would also help clean up all the thread in the development section as well which make it more focus on roms. Now about search I'm sure a lot of the people on this board use xda from the app which has been a known fact for a very long time to be not very useful. Op great post love the idea.
I love the 90s. Good times.
Now, a thread with all the mods wouldnt be helpful.... HOWEVER a wiki page that lists that particular rom and all the mods that are availible to it that links back into the thread for each mod actually sounds like a viable solution...

It's cool man, don't feel bad.
The thing is, everyone's kind of bought into this dev-worship thing and interrupting their circlejerk is definitely a no-no. Unfortunately, it has become a common position to hold that you should shut up, take what you're given, and if you're not happy, learn to do it yourself. This is a fine position when it comes to literally complaining or bashing devs for not implementing 'X' feature...But it has been taken to an extreme by some devs, and most users, that any asking for features be met with harsh criticism and intolerance. Fall in line, take what you're given.
Of course, this is an absurd position to take, one they don't accept in any other facet of their life.
What no one seems to have realized is that, aside from the use of the world challenge, your post wasn't at all contentious. I apologize, on behalf of those of us who are still willing to think, for how the people in this thread have treated you.
As an aside, a genuine thank you to the devs who don't take any chance to jump down the throat of a user who is simply asking for specific features in a rom.
To actually answer the OP...
The closest you would get be to compile the flashable zips of all the features you like for yourself
Put the Note 2 keyboard, multiview, and any other mod that you want into a zip and just have it handy for yourself, thats the best you can do short of porting the remaining stuff over haha
As things go popping up, which I'm sure they will, you can go on adding them to your zip

[Q] Multi-window ported from Galaxy Note 2 to Galaxy S3

Okay, so we have all of course seen that Synergy ROM and GalaxyMod have gotten multi-window/multi-view (is there seriously an official name for it??) working on the Galaxy S3, and on 4.1.1 no less.
This is really bugging the crap out of me (and probably a few other frustrated people). See, I want to make my own ROM from stock with all the features I want, without having to even deal with ROMs like Synergy that just don't quite fit with what I want and what works.
So I shall ask the question many may be dying to answer themselves, and why not sit down and actually discuss it rather than say "oh go here and get 'x' rom lol".
How does one get the Galaxy Note 2's Multi-window feature working on a Galaxy S3 touchwiz (or perhaps even AOSP) ROM?
Simple as that.
We all know it is possible, since it has already been done. And even on a version beneath 4.1.2!
If anyone has any clue whatsoever, please contribute to the discussion. I hope that soon this can be useful to all who would like this feature.
If anyone has any arguments to me asking the question, I haven't ever found an answer, and I've searched almost anywhere I possibly could (even here). So please don't.
Thank you.

You have to code it into the rom your using. Which means ripping your rom apart down to the base code and redoing alot of the coding from scratch.
AOSP is not an option. If you dont know why then you might want to rethink doing it your self.
You will need to know Java and C++ to start with.

So basically what you're saying is that I should download the source code from Samsung and code it into the ROM? (can't think of any other way to get to the base code simply from my little ROM itself, so that's why I ask this) Never worked with actual source code yet, so I might need a few pointers. It has always seemed as though source codes for different sorts of software are handled differently. And that's true. The thing is, finding how to handle each person's/company's source, and I still have much to learn in that regard.
Call me a noob if you'd like, because I pretty much am. But even so I would like to learn. Just saying. (and before you say "oh, well then go look at the other parts of the forum if you're so helpless", I'm just throwing it out there)
Okay. I thought I saw multi-window on an AOSP ROM but I could be mistaken. Besides, I don't have to do it myself. I could probably team up with my friend who is a hardcore android phone modder like myself.
Yeah, I figured I'd need to know Java and C++ to legitimately code android itself. I'll probably be able to get it down completely one of these days. For now, I'm still learning it.
There is a mod on the sprint gs3 forums that has multiwindow. It's a flashable mod for sprint 4.1.2 rims only though. It's a lotmore work than just that though. Port Sprint ROM then add the mod. And more behind Tue scenes stuff.

You NEED to also know that the APKs themselves also need to be multi-view compatible. This means decompiling and re-compiling each APK for your device (with the change in coding).
I'm not sure if you'd need to change the build prop to match the Note2 as well, but I think your CSC can remain the same.

So I'm assuming you mean we should use something like apktool. The question then is what parts of each code do we change/add to make it work. Alternatively, I have seen mods that make it so just about any app will work as well.
I'm supposing I should get the stock Note 2 ROM to obtain the build.prop? I dunno, I haven't done much with build.prop's.

Well...I actually already know how to use the Kitchen. It's really simple to use. You just need to know how to install individual mods after you do what needs to be done in the kitchen itself. The only thing I don't fully know is how to port. He doesn't give any pointers because he doesn't actually know how to port either.
And I really don't want to wait for someone else to make a ROM with it included. We already have two, and both are still pretty buggy. Synergy is notably slow (despite CPU tweaks) and there are quite a few apps that don't even work on it (for example, the regular e-mail app). I'm determined to figure out and know how top create my own ROM, but if I can't get the info I need to progress then it'll be pretty tough.
Like I said though. I'm determined to gain the knowledge to do what I want.

So if you want to create a Rom with multi Window you will need framework from gs3 4.1.1 4.1.2 and note 2 4.1.2. You do not need the source from Samsung necessarily as you can pull framework-res.apk with adb, but you need a thorough knowledge of java and c++. You don't normally start off doing major reconstructive editing to roms. If you have adk set up build an app first. There are tons of tutorials in xda and all over google. Then move on to theming and whatnot.
Remeber to hit Thanks if I've been helpful.
