No SIM and Wi-Fi dropping issues - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

- vs985 -
About 3 days ago my phone started to have Wi-Fi disconnecting issues. I formatted everything outside of external sd card and put back the same rom I had installed with no previous issues, xdabbeb's 47a rooted following instructions 100% as I had previously. Still, wifi issues where it will connect / disconnect. Rebooting the phone or turning on / off wifi or even bluetooth has no effect. Complete randomness seems to "fix" it but wifi will only stay on for a few minutes at a time. Multiple other devices on my same network have no issues. Still, rebooted and even factory reset the router just to be sure. No change.
Something I thought was an isolated issue, I had a "no sim" message a few months ago and Verizon replaced my sim card and the problem seemed to go away. Today though, while trying another reformat, I got the "no sim" card on the initial setup screen and before even finishing the setup via wifi, the wifi disconnected multiple times.
I'm thinking hardware is to blame especially since there were no apps installed to conflict with the os software.
I'm really not wanting a new phone, should I look to replace the motherboard? I can diy it np. Or, should I bite the bullet and buy a ::shutter:: new phone.
Orrrr... is there anything else I should try software wise?

So since having issues and formatting down to internal storage and reinstalling the stock rooted 46a kdz with no positive results, I flashed the 10b and attempted to take the OTA's. The OTA's failed for 10b so I flashed the 24b and was able to take all the OTA's. I'm on 47a right now and haven't had any wifi issues. I'm going to give it a few days of usage to see if it's "fixed." Afterwards though, I plan to go back to the stock rooted 46a so I can use my rooted apps like titanium and hopefully find the issue still fixed. I do know there is a kingroot option for stock 47a, but I also find a lot of negativity about it's communication with sensitive data and installing apps behind the scene so I'd rather not go that route.
I'll keep updating in case anyone else has similar issues.

[Q] Data and Phone network connectivity problem

My Verizon GN is having difficulty connecting to my phone and data networks. It all started on the day of the outage this week. I assumed it would all fix itself, but it has not. I've snooped around the board quite a bit and it seems all other users have had their connections restored.
I first noticed the problem on Thursday morning. My data status in notification bar would drop to display no "bars." It does not switch over to 3G. I figured this problem would resolve itself once Verizon fixed its network.
Then I tried to send a text and it couldn't be sent. I tried to call someone and it would not dial out.
But these loss of connections are not persistent. Eventually, the 4G works for a bit then disconnects again.
The phone network seems to be doing this as well. Sometimes I can call/text, other times I can't.
I was considering wiping my phone and flashing a new ROM or getting the stock ROM from google to flash. However, I seem to be having trouble with clockwork mod. When I try to reboot into recovery mode it takes me to what I assume is download mode (shows an android knocked over on his side with, I think, a red X).
Is there something simple I can do to fix my data/phone network connection?
If I have to flash back to complete stock, then how do I do this without being able to access recovery?
If all else fails, will I be able to do a factory reset considering the current scenario? I assume I would need to do this before bringing it to Verizon for service.
I appreciate any help provided. Here are some other details that might help.
Rooted with stock ROM
4.0.2
Baseband I515.09 V.EK05 / I515.EK02
Kernel 3.0.8-gaaa2611
Build ICL53F
/edit/
I should have mentioned I had the most up-to-date version of CWM. I just reflashed it with ROM Mgr and it booted into recovery, so that's good.
Well ****. I went into CWM - Advanced - Fix Permissions. I thought hitting Fix Permissions would bring up another menu. Instead it fixed permissions. Hopefully I didn't do something stupid that I don't understand.
I flashed the GummyNex Rom hoping it was a kernel issue or an issue resolved by going from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3. It's been a little better it seems, but it did drop both networks once already and it's only been 15 minutes or so.
The new ROM definitely did not solve anything. I don't know what to do. I need to find a way to get back unrooted, unlocked, stock. Unfortunately, I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.11 which current SDK doesn't seem to support.

Kindle 6.3 Broken Wi-Fi

I recently came from ICS, and having issues with wi-fi there. So I went back to stock, hoping my issues would be resolved. Awesome. They aren't!
Wi-Fi doesn't work. I have/had hashcode's latest kernel flashed. I don't know what to do. Any ideas? D:
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!
How are you wiping when you flash roms? Maybe you have messed up how your kindle connects to wireless . There has been a Mac address issue with the new kernel maybe yours never reverted when you went back to stock. Have you tried other networks? Have you done a factory restore? Do you mean pure stock not rooted?

I wipe ; Factory Reset, System, Dalvik-Cache, Cache
And basically when I go to TURN-ON Wireless, no networks show. It doesn't even fully turn it on, it gets stuck in the middle of turning on the Wi-fi.
I went back PURE stock, NO ROOT. However, it seems I may have need of getting ROOT back. :/
I'm still curious if you performed a factory restore when you returned it to stock. I suppose your case could be that something burned out the wifi adaptor of the kindle although I bet its rare but not completely unreasonable. After a new clean flash when you reroot we will see those results ?
Probably totally unrelated, but have you ever had the locate-my-kindle software installed? I got similar weird behavior after a while when using that... first wifi networks were slow to come up, then it would struggle to turn on wifi, finally it'd just give an error and crash the settings manager or whatever it's called. I had to get rid of the software. Basically it was storing every single wifi network it ever came in contact with, even for just a second, and having too many entries hosed wifi. Uninstalling it seemed to clear those extra entries and restore functionality.
I do know that restoring your account from Google to your device and letting them keep copies of your wifi passwords can also cause issues although when I was testing roms for some devs on my droidx with known wifi issues ñot allow the Google restore and backup caused similar problems.

[Q] BMB4 Wifi Issue (not wifi calling)

Since upgrading to BMB4 I am having an issue at work where my phone will not switch between access points properly. It appears to be a problem with the phone *disconnecting* from the access point when I no longer have a strong enough signal. If I walk from my desk to another part of the building, it still says I am connected with a strong signal, even though I am not connected at all.
In fact, several times when driving home I have looked down after realizing I haven't received any e-mails in a while to see that my phone still thinks I should be connected to the wifi at my desk.
The only workaround I have found so far is, if I go from my desk to another part of the building, turn wifi off and back on, then do it again when I return to my desk, or anytime I notice that my phone thinks I have a strong wireless signal but I don't.
I tried a full factory reset, but no dice. Had absolutely no problem prior to BMB4.
Anyone else seen anything similar? Any ideas? Anything buried in the service menus that could be wrong? If not, would rooting and reflashing the radio be likely to help (can you give me a link to the right one to try if so)?
Thanks!
The radio wouldn't have anything to do with it. You are probably a victim of just some simple file corruption. It happens, I see this more with OTAs than anything. That "transitioning" from one OS to another while attempting to preserve precious data.
I would recommend you root it, install "TWRP" 2.5.0.0 for your device (which is basically a recovery or "bios" for the device - or basically a kernel), and then install a ROM that has been updated to BMB4... off the top of my head, i would say you should give tweaked 2.0 a try. It's solid (others are as well, but i know for certain that one will give you zero issues similar to the one you are reporting.)
The links for twrp, with instruction on how to install can be found in the "orginal development section" and the tweaked ROM can be found in the plain "development section" of the forum here.
As I said, very likely that your issue can be resolved by starting 100% fresh. New system install (which is not formatted when you wipe data obviously)
So again, root, install twrp recovery, install tweaked 2.0. Follow directions to the T.
Good luck
I was reading and wondering if I actually wrote that question. That is EXACTLY what is happening to me since the update. I never have an issue at home, it is just moving from AP to AP at work and also being 'connected' when I am miles away from the AP. I don't really want to factory reset, so I tried turning off wifi power saving using "*#0011#" and that seems to be working...

[Q] No data when connected to 3g

Hey guys,
I have a really weird problem that's been persistent throughout my ownership of this phone. If my phone ever goes into 3g mode, I can't access the internet on my phone or do anything that requires data. I live in a mostly 4g area so it isn't normally an issue, but when I travel elsewhere it becomes a huge headache, forcing me to go running in search of a wifi hotspot.
I have the newest radios, and even flashed the latest RUU to reset my phone to stock. The problem is still there.
Is this an issue for anyone else, or does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix it? Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have the same issues regardless of what ROM I'm on. 3G is pretty iffy for me, sometimes I will get a data connection whereas some other times I don't get any data at all. I would hope that phone should say "no service" or something like that. Your best bet at this point is to try to do a factory reset to rule out any residuals from other ROMs (remember to make a backup before hand on a computer because it will wipe everything). Also take the time to update firmware

Keep in mind sometimes the recovery can cause issues, I remember I was using specific versions of TWRP and most of the time it would work fine but other ROMs I had errors. I can't comment on Philz cause I never used it. Currently on TWRP 2.7.1.1 and so far no issues.
Lastly, the only thing I could think of is try getting a new SIM card. You want to go to the corporate stores and NOT the authorized Verizon retailers. You'll know because the authorized retailers will charge you for a new sim card whereas corporate stores do not.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to write all of that. It means a lot! I tried everything else, but I think a new sim card might do the trick. I didn't even think about that.

HTC 10 Wi-Fi cannot find any networks after restore

Yesterday I was messing around with my new HTC 10. I, at one point, wiped my phone to remove the encryption my old ROM had put on; then flashed the backup I had of the original software. When I got the setup page, it did not show any wireless networks. It did, however, connect to my carrier's 4G network without any issues.
In an attempt to fix this issue I rooted my phone, including the fix to SuperSU for the new encryption on the phone. This did not solve the issue. I then used the logs to find there was only one Wi-Fi error displayed, and the rest seemed normal. The one error was `11-11 06:44:57.897 E/WifiStateMachine(3287): Fail to set up pno, want true now false`. I could not figure out a way to easily rectify the error, nor any literature apart from Googles codebase.
Are there any troubleshooting suggestions you can give me?
I would just RUU it at that point.
