Weird Boot Cycling - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Got my HTC 10 unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP, rootted etc.
The phone works but every once in a while, I notice this after doing a TWRP backup, when I reboot it cycles like it's in a boot loop. It will eventually get out of it and boot normally but it's disturbing and makes me nervous. Sometimes it reboots as many as 6 times.
Anyone know what might be going on?

Hi there, yeah I get this also, thing is that I'm not unlocked yet I'm fully stock, and once it boots into android it asks me to send system crash report to htc. I already sent the phone in once for replacement but it still happens, it's odd, it goes away after ruu but comes back.

My phone did this as well. In a last ditch effort I removed the micro sd card and the boot loops stopped. I turned out that particular sd card (samsung evo 128gb) was causing mounting issues while booting, I replaced it with another sd card (sandisk 64gb) and the problem was completely resolved. Hope this helps!

I had this problem but different. Phone would just infinitely cycle boot loader boot. It would only stay on for fraction of a second then turn off..I just exchanged the phone today because I wasn't able to fix it

Just to add to this, I had this same issue described in this thread, and this solution fixed it. Had a Samsung 128GB evo+, swapped for a SanDisk 128GB, works perfectly. Only rebooted once so far, but it didn't loop.

On the subject of SD cards.
I have a SanDisk Extreme 64GB card.
I use ES File Explorer to view, move and delete my files. But I find it really annoying and hard as it takes so long to delete a single file or to move files from the internal to external. And even takes a really long time to move files to different locations o. The SD card. Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks.

At first, for the file moving between intSD and/or extSD and/or USB_OTG use hTc file manager:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htc.filemanager
At second, how much out of 64 is already occupied?

I would try a card reader and format the card.
Or you may have the partial usb brick problem. Try looking at the usb brick fix thread on modaco.

Hi, anyone can help? Thanks for great help
Did you look at the USB brick thread? There are ADB commands to reenable SD card access there. Trying those should definitely be your first port of call.

I think you have a bad MicroSD from the infamous "bad batch of microSD cards" courtesy of HTC ...
we are still wondering if it is something wrong with the phone or with the microSD tho' ...
go buy another card, or get in touch with HTC to change it..

Did you read the usb bricked threads? The instructions to get you fully back up and running are in there.
Once you are fixed, only use rom manager, fake flash, or unrevoked to flash roms.

Hi everybody,
I really hope that you can help me out.
I'm having the same problem as the ts had initially: my HTC Desire doesn't recognize the sd card (Samsung micro SDHC 4gb) that is in it.
I've tried to follow up the steps 'chippieuk' has listed in the linked thread.
Everything went fine, until I reached steps 8 and 12, because my pc doesn't recognize the sd card either. (I've tried to put in two other computers and another phone, but it hasn't been recognized in any of them. I've also tried to use another sd card in the sd card readers and adapter, and that sd card was recognized, but it was a SanDisk micro SD 2gb.)
This is some background information.
Something like 7 months ago I rooted my HTC Desire (in the process of rooting I partitioned the sd card) and I put custom ROM 'opendesire v1.5' on it. I was satisfied with it, so I never changed it since then. But my HTC Desire stopped working properly something like 1 month ago. Everytime I switched it on, it went into bootloop. So last monday I did a hard reset via 'hboot' and it seemed to work again, but then I discovered that the sd card wasn't being recognized and that has been the problem ever since.
I have, btw., (temporarily) unrooted my phone with a RUU (android 2.1). I have not yet upgraded it to android 2.2, because I will probably root my phone again soon (if I will succeed with my sd card etc.)...
So... Have any of you got an idea? Could it be something with the readers that I've used (that they can't read micro sdhc cards...)? Or because I once partitioned it? I really don't know...
Once again, I would really appreciate it if you could help me.
Thanks.
Regards
I have SD Card problem too, i think you guys can help me.
My phone had a Vodafone rom so i installed LeeDroid 2.3 for Market. After i did it, i couldn't do anything from Rom Manager(Download error...). I installed my ROM 3-4 times but nothing changed.
It was working well but the phone memory was not enough for me, thats why i formatted my sd card and generated an EXT 4 partition (1536mb). I sent my files back to rest FAT32 partition and powered my Desire on. It didn't read see the SD Card (says SD Card is safe to remove all the time), so my phone can't read my SD Card. There is no problem when i plugged it into my pc. Also i can reach my phone over HTC Sync.
I can install new roms from bootloader but it's not changing anything.
So, i don't know what should i do or where should i look. I tried to install the original rom but i need GoldCard and i can't. Please help me to use my Desire again

Happens to me toooo..... Just dont move them on sd card.... Let them on fone memory.... They will be f9.... Also, go to manage apps and open the app... Force stop it and reboot... It will be back with no data loss and move it to phone.... Dont kno the reason why this happens... Maybe, someone would be able to tell...

I've had this, sort of behaviour happen before, but it was because the flash memory was corrupting. You may have a bad SD card, it does happen. I push many of my apps to my SD card, so I can tell very quickly if the card is at fault.
You should back up your SD card, and reformat it in FAT32, as the filesystem itself may be malformed.
I've also heard that PNY has fallen lately in their quality, so you may want to try another SD card, if the above doesn't work.
My app of choice for keeping apps on my SD card is Link2SD: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwOSwiY29tLmJ1YWsuTGluazJTRCJd

Sandisk 64GB SDXC NOT recognising!

Hello guys! Just wondering if you could help me...
I bought a SanDisk Extreme 64gb SDXC card and when I place it in the M9 it doesn't recognise at all. It doesn't even give me the option to mount - it's as if nothing is in there.
Strange thing is it works perfectly in my PC and Mac and even detects in a very old HTC I have lying around. Also, if I put an old 2gb card in the M9 it recognises that perfectly.
Anyone got any ideas??

Format it into a different format, exfat. Try fat32 if that doesn't work.

That's the exact one I have. I can't format it with the phone though because it won't even detect it at all. Not even allowing me to mount it. Just states it as unavailable in storage settings.

Umm it's very strange. Only thing I can think of is whether the partition map itself makes a difference. With a partition manager, I seem to have options for MBR, GUID and others, but I'm assuming this won't matter considering it's not being used to boot anything up? I've left it as MBR because that seems to be the default. Have also scanned it numerous times with PC and it seems to have no bad sectors. I would return it and try another but obviously the fact that it works in every other device I have tells me it isn't actually faulty.
May just have to bite the bullet, buy another and hope for the best. Does the class rating make a difference when purchasing these things?

Shoved it in another Android phone. Recognises fine, used it to format it in storage settings. Still won't detect in the M9! Very confusing!
I would return it, get a normal SanDisk sdxc

Not the gold one the grey one. If you say it's defective then they may test it and tell you it's not
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/d...l-to-restore-full-capacity-on-sdhc/sdxc-cards
I had a similar problem with a 64gb regular sdxc sandisk. I did the entire low level format and electronic partition check. Try that before completely giving up.

[Solved][root]LG G4 Stock MM 6.0 v20a with internal SD Card

Hello at all,
i've updated my G4 to the long awaited Marshmallow Update. All seems to be fine, but there is absolutely no option to format my SD Card to an internal one.
That was very upsetting. Ive crawled the internet, found some opinion threads (even here on XDA) a lot more G4 Users didn't have this option. Only "format as portable" will be offered in settings. There are many thoughts, why LG did not implement this format- Option.
Some of the G4 Users are thinking, that an SD Card will be too slow. And even a Class 10 SD-Card can harm the fast LG G4 experience. On the one Hand, i can agree with that (too slow, only for Low End Phones with 8GB and below of internal Storage) BUT! on the other hand, there are possibilities to get a good "internal-SD-Card-experience"
Here my thoughts:
1: there are faster SD Cards than Class 10 - (if the Phone technically supports) you can insert an UHS U1 SD Card with alot more speed. So the BottleNeck concerning possible SlowDowns during usage will be "terminated" I've heard UHS SD-Cards are mostly as fast as the internal eMMC Storage.
2: i've saw a Video on Youtube, showing a Guy testing the Internal SD-Card funktionality on an HTC A9 with 32 GB internal Storage, so the 8GB LowEnd argumentation ist also "Smashed" He uses an UHS-SD-Card, i've asked him to try again with a Class 10, maybe Marshmallow refuses?
3: I think this option can be forced... Maybe with a UHS-Card (someone tried?) or with a rooted G4 with MM Stock ROM, or with a different format (eg. EXT4(?))
4: hopefully LG did that none-presence of this format-option accidentally (maybe "fixed" with 6.0.1) and not for profit... :/ it would be interesting to see, if the LG G3 will have this option or even the LG G Flex 2. Both of these Phones sold in variants with "low-end" 16GB internal Memory
What do you guys think? Are there already solutions?
It is quite boring to have a 128Gig beast inside only for Photos and such, but with no App Movement as on 5.1 before and expecially no external Spotify Download- Caching....
Cheers
ScanDisc reply on UHS-1:
"Please be informed that UHS-1 (Ultra high speed) is equivalent to class 10. All UHS-1 memory cards have 10MB/s of minimum data transfer speed same as a class 10 card. There is no difference in the data transfer speeds of these memory cards and also they are identical in their technical specifications as well. All SDHC and SDXC class 10 memory cards that we are manufacturing are UHS-1 also."

Here is a website with comparison - https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/
So, to get a speed somthing near in-built memory speed, you would need UHS-3 class.
Ahh, ok. Thank you for this Info. Can the LG G4 handle this Type of SD-Cards?
Gesendet von meinem LG-H815 mit Tapatalk
Was really looking forward to that, what a shame
Sent from my LG-H810 using Tapatalk
Did u erase it first then try to see if there was an option for that? I looked for the option too.(im running an American Sprint model with the Android M leak) If we can absolutely not without root then that's wack. I have a uhs-3 card(64gb) in my phone, replaced it with that one after my 128gb card got corrupted.
Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
Yes, i have erased the SD Card several Times. Nothing happens concerning the "new" Format- Option.
Have you tested it with your UHS 3 Card?
Maybe there is hope: i've heard in Korea is an updated v20- Version... v20e(?) or somethin' . Next location will be Poland i guess and then other Countries. So if this happens, i be one of the first, who will get this "maybe"-Update. I will keepmyou on track about this.
Interesting thing: does someone of you have Updated their LG G4 to MM via OTA? There is only the Method with this LG Update Software for Windows an Mac... Eventually a careful step, to check that the most of the customers are satisfied with 6.0. Until then, they Holding back the "Easy-Way"-updating OTA option for fixes... Missing functions.... 6.0.1...
And... With 5.1, external moved Apps are running as smooth as they where on internal Storage....
So, i continuing dreaming....
With hours of internet research it's....
...solved! (with root access) or with TWRP boot (requires Bootloader-unlock)

Give him many thanks for his solution. As I guessed this Format-as-internal feature has been disabled in some way / config file and Radek found out, which file is the right one.

This is very interesting. Contrary to something I've read on the internet it looks like you do actually get access to all your storage. How do things look when you use an android file explorer? and what does windows show you when you connect via USB?
It works all well.
Internal memory (32GB) is used for apps.
SD card is used for data. You cannot remove it, but that is ok.
Both file manager on phone and PC see SD card as internal storage.
any idea why the G4 is stuck at the Tmobile screen after:
Using the ES root browser and changing the file manually, then running the adb commands in the op, then also changing the permission using TWIRP
Is there any way to use lg updrage tools to flash a kdz with that setting? (sd card as internal - no unlocking)?
Thanks

Sd card problem on mm custom rom

So I recently flashed the marshmallow resurrection remix ROM on my M8 and it was cool...been using it for some time now...no bugs whatsoever...until I decided to insert an SD card for the first time ever since the flash...as usual upon first insertion it tells you to format it into either internal storage or the other option (forgotten the main terms they used)..now I already know that there's an SD card bug on all CM powered Roms..but the way the error occurs on my device is abnormal...after I select how I want it to be formated and start the formatting process it immediately crashes in like 2 seconds and returns to my home screen leaving this error code

Most people with the SD card problems complain of the formatting process being stuck or moving forward to a certain level and then crushing or something...but non of them complains of this kind of error...can someone please look at this and help me?

I haven't seen that particular error. When I've had problems with CM13 reading the SD card, what sometimes works for me: insert the SD card into a card reader attached to my Windows PC. Then Windows pops up a dialog box, which indicates there is a problem with the card, and you can pick whether to fix it. I forget the choices, but there is a quick one, and a slower one. I pick the quick one, which just takes a couple minutes; and also preserves the data on the SD. Then re-insert SD into device, and CM13 seems to read it fine. This doesn't always work, but often does to fix the problem with CM13 reading the SD.
May or may not work in your situation, but just throwing it out there, as its worth a try.

But here's the thing...I placed that same SD card in another M8 using the ViperOme lollipop ROM and it seemed to format and most as internal memory or external storage just fine...so I'm sure it isn't a hardware problem

Removable storage is what you want. I'm pretty sure you'll run into problems if you try to format as internal storage (it becomes a part of the internal storage associated with the other M8) and swap the SD to another phone.
Why not try what I suggested, just to see if it works or not? It just takes a couple minutes, so it couldn't hurt. That is, unless you don't have a card reader connected to your PC.
Just tried your way...still giving me the same error...it crashes immediately when the formatting process starts...don't even think it even gets time to initiate the process..could it be that this particular ROM is bugged?

If you try another ROM, and don't get the problem; than its pretty likely a bug in the ROM. But on the other hand, if its a problem with the ROM, I would think that others would have reported it in the ROM thread.
Is your firmware up to date?
