Hello guys! Just wondering if you could help me...
I bought a SanDisk Extreme 64gb SDXC card and when I place it in the M9 it doesn't recognise at all. It doesn't even give me the option to mount - it's as if nothing is in there.
Strange thing is it works perfectly in my PC and Mac and even detects in a very old HTC I have lying around. Also, if I put an old 2gb card in the M9 it recognises that perfectly.
Anyone got any ideas??

Format it into a different format, exfat. Try fat32 if that doesn't work.

I tried FAT32, exFAT, even NTFS but nothing I just find it strange that it detects in every other device except my M9.

formatted as exFAT, and working just fine.
Maybe try formatting it directly from the phone (I didnt have to, i used the PC with a card reader), but wanted to let you know it works fine for me.

That's the exact one I have. I can't format it with the phone though because it won't even detect it at all. Not even allowing me to mount it. Just states it as unavailable in storage settings.

dont know, maybe it's fried? happened to me once, the card could be seen on the PC, but not on the phone, after some low-level checking (using a partition manager) turned out the card was bad
but no idea really

Umm it's very strange. Only thing I can think of is whether the partition map itself makes a difference. With a partition manager, I seem to have options for MBR, GUID and others, but I'm assuming this won't matter considering it's not being used to boot anything up? I've left it as MBR because that seems to be the default. Have also scanned it numerous times with PC and it seems to have no bad sectors. I would return it and try another but obviously the fact that it works in every other device I have tells me it isn't actually faulty.
May just have to bite the bullet, buy another and hope for the best. Does the class rating make a difference when purchasing these things?

Shoved it in another Android phone. Recognises fine, used it to format it in storage settings. Still won't detect in the M9! Very confusing!
I would return it, get a normal SanDisk sdxc

Not the gold one the grey one. If you say it's defective then they may test it and tell you it's not

I had a similar problem with a 64gb regular sdxc sandisk. I did the entire low level format and electronic partition check. Try that before completely giving up.

I would try a card reader and format the card.
Or you may have the partial usb brick problem. Try looking at the usb brick fix thread on modaco.

Hi, anyone can help? Thanks for great help
Did you look at the USB brick thread? There are ADB commands to reenable SD card access there. Trying those should definitely be your first port of call.

I think you have a bad MicroSD from the infamous "bad batch of microSD cards" courtesy of HTC ...
we are still wondering if it is something wrong with the phone or with the microSD tho' ...
go buy another card, or get in touch with HTC to change it..

Did you read the usb bricked threads? The instructions to get you fully back up and running are in there.
Once you are fixed, only use rom manager, fake flash, or unrevoked to flash roms.

Hi everybody,
I really hope that you can help me out.
I'm having the same problem as the ts had initially: my HTC Desire doesn't recognize the sd card (Samsung micro SDHC 4gb) that is in it.
I've tried to follow up the steps 'chippieuk' has listed in the linked thread.
Everything went fine, until I reached steps 8 and 12, because my pc doesn't recognize the sd card either. (I've tried to put in two other computers and another phone, but it hasn't been recognized in any of them. I've also tried to use another sd card in the sd card readers and adapter, and that sd card was recognized, but it was a SanDisk micro SD 2gb.)
This is some background information.
Something like 7 months ago I rooted my HTC Desire (in the process of rooting I partitioned the sd card) and I put custom ROM 'opendesire v1.5' on it. I was satisfied with it, so I never changed it since then. But my HTC Desire stopped working properly something like 1 month ago. Everytime I switched it on, it went into bootloop. So last monday I did a hard reset via 'hboot' and it seemed to work again, but then I discovered that the sd card wasn't being recognized and that has been the problem ever since.
I have, btw., (temporarily) unrooted my phone with a RUU (android 2.1). I have not yet upgraded it to android 2.2, because I will probably root my phone again soon (if I will succeed with my sd card etc.)...
So... Have any of you got an idea? Could it be something with the readers that I've used (that they can't read micro sdhc cards...)? Or because I once partitioned it? I really don't know...
Once again, I would really appreciate it if you could help me.
Thanks.
Regards
I have SD Card problem too, i think you guys can help me.
My phone had a Vodafone rom so i installed LeeDroid 2.3 for Market. After i did it, i couldn't do anything from Rom Manager(Download error...). I installed my ROM 3-4 times but nothing changed.
It was working well but the phone memory was not enough for me, thats why i formatted my sd card and generated an EXT 4 partition (1536mb). I sent my files back to rest FAT32 partition and powered my Desire on. It didn't read see the SD Card (says SD Card is safe to remove all the time), so my phone can't read my SD Card. There is no problem when i plugged it into my pc. Also i can reach my phone over HTC Sync.
I can install new roms from bootloader but it's not changing anything.
So, i don't know what should i do or where should i look. I tried to install the original rom but i need GoldCard and i can't. Please help me to use my Desire again
After my "kefuffle" with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8484070#post8484070
I had to play around with making multiple gold cards. Unfortunately one of the cards I had to use was my 32gb SanDisk microSD. After editing the hex code during the gold card process my computer failed to read the card. I then proceeded to format the card.
Windows explorer can't format the card in quick or full format mode. I downloaded a third party SD formatter (Philips or something) and ran both a quick format, and a full format on it. After running the SD formatter windows explorer was able to recognise the SD card as having 31gb of spare space. I was able to copy files to the SD card.
As soon as I put it in my Desire, it said random errors like "SD card ready to dismount" and "SD card damaged please format". After formatting the card with the Desire's format tool, the card is recognised and it says there is 31gb free space. I am then able to plug the Desire into the computer and enable "HTC Sync" or "Disk Drive" mode. HTC sync doesn't recognise the SD card, but windows explorer does when it is in disk mode. I am able to copy files to the SD card, although as soon as I eject the phone, the Desire attempts to check the SD card for errors and says the card is damaged.
Surely there is a tool out there I can use? It has the functionality to store files some of the time, surely not all hope is lost? 32GB microSD cards are freakin expensive and I don't want to throw it out...
Get a linux live cd, start GParted and delete every partition on the SD Card. Create a new FAT32 partition and try it again.
Sorry I'm nub, what the hell does that mean?
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
Grab that and burn it to CD/USB/whatever, and use that to delete all of the partitions on your card (plenty of guides online for GParted)
I got that problem too but my 16gb microsd read only 8mb. Can't format. Gparted can read as well.. :'(

I tried that but it didn't work. I was able to partition it, however once the software had applied the partitions, it showed up as "Unformatted", "Other" and "other". Whereas in the video it showed up as "Fat32", "ext2" and "linux swap".
I tried it in my Desire anyway, and it recognised it, but if you took a picture then connected the SD to the computer as a disk drive, the image taken becomes jumbled (literally). Once ejected from the computer the Desire is unable to mount the SD card properly and says it is in "Read-only" mode. In that state I am unable to eject/format the card.
I haven't tried Gparted yet. Wouldn't that be the same as deleting and creating the partitions?

I see.... I don't know about Gparted, but now that u remind me, also for me it didn't work immediately..
I don't remember what I did exactly but I formatted the sd card 3 or 4 times, after I use the video's method, and I also formatted once with win7 and at the end I formatted it again with the phone..
I did it and suddenly the SD started to work properly..
Now is working perfectly since I've done it and that was 3 weeks ago..
it doesnt work with my MicroSD.. it still shows as 8mb when it should be 16GB!! guess its corrupted like hell..

Tried Gparted...I was able to create a fat32 and ext2 partition (wasn't able to do ext3 or ext4 or linux swap - kept saying "sd possibly corrupt") However still had issues with phone reading it.
I'm just going to take the card back. I've had it a month, but worth a try.

Could be... did you try to format the SD with windows first?
i have tried several roms, sd fix apps, and have modified the platform.xml manually and gave permissions to the mnt folder.
Nothing lets me write to my 64gb card anymore.
I've tried formatting the card via phone and pc disk management and several format exFAT utilities.
Nothing works.
Is my sd card screwed?

yeah, i've done that. ever since i moved to a kitkat rom 6 months ago, i've only been able to read from it. Even when plugged into a sd card adapter in PC.
I don't know how my sd card got corrupt.
Sandisk brand?
yeah, is that bad?
I had that same issue and it is a simple fix, at least for me. I was embarrassed to know what it was. Anyways. On the SD card adapter you use to insert into the PC is a lock slide knob like mechanism. If you locked it then you will have your issues. Put it back in that adapter and slide it the other way. At least it worked for me after weeks of research.

If you try to format and it says successful but all your original files are still there, there's a good chance the card is corrupt. This happened to me recently. I was still able to read the files so I backed the card up and had it replaced through SanDisk warranty.
This tool saved my life on a 32 GB Card - not sure if it's relevant to the OP, but anything is worth a try after a certain point, you know? lol. The low level format using this tool took around 11 hours, significantly longer than the built-in windows format... it was an overnighter. I went from the card un-mounting anytime I tried to copy a file over (While I had borked my ROM and was trying to copy a new rom over to flash, of course!), to having no issues whatsoever. I really thought I was going to have to buy a new card but... HP Format tool to the rescue!
hey there xda peeps!
I know there are like a dozen of posts like this, but my problem seems to be slightly different from everyone else's.
when I insert the sd card into the phone, nothing happens, and the phone doesn't scan it. however, it seems to detect it, as I can still scan the sd card using sd insight.
when I go to settings>storage, the option to mount the sd card is available. however, when i click on it, a window pops up asking whether I would like to format the card or cancel the operation. if i click cancel, the window goes away, and I can click on the button once again. however, this causes the storage page to freeze, while displaying the notification"preparing external storage..." if i select format, it formats the card and...it goes back to square one, with it not being detected.
I have read other similar threads, all of which were resolved by pushing in the sd card slightly, formatting the cache from recovery mode and changing the card's storage system to fat32. I have tried all of them numerous times, but to no avail.
I am quite certain it is a software-based issue, as my other sd cards which I know to be readable could not be read as well.
my sd card is a sandisk ultra 32gb, while my phone is a zenfone 2 ze551ml. my phone's software version is in the attached picture.

Does the card work in another phone or on the PC? You might have a bung sd card which is not unheard of...
You could try another sd card in the phone, might be a warranty fixable problem (unless you have fooled around with it)...

yep, the sd card works in a pc. tried other sd cards, they don't read either. and I think my warranty just expired, but I left the phone completely stock.
What makes you think it's a software issue? If no card is working with just that phone, you could very well have a bad card slot.

it seems like a software issue to me due to the problem arising after a software update quite some time back. my phone was functioning all well for about a year or so before this problem popped up. sorry for the extremely late reply.
So I recently flashed the marshmallow resurrection remix ROM on my M8 and it was cool...been using it for some time now...no bugs whatsoever...until I decided to insert an SD card for the first time ever since the flash...as usual upon first insertion it tells you to format it into either internal storage or the other option (forgotten the main terms they used)..now I already know that there's an SD card bug on all CM powered Roms..but the way the error occurs on my device is abnormal...after I select how I want it to be formated and start the formatting process it immediately crashes in like 2 seconds and returns to my home screen leaving this error code

I haven't seen that particular error. When I've had problems with CM13 reading the SD card, what sometimes works for me: insert the SD card into a card reader attached to my Windows PC. Then Windows pops up a dialog box, which indicates there is a problem with the card, and you can pick whether to fix it. I forget the choices, but there is a quick one, and a slower one. I pick the quick one, which just takes a couple minutes; and also preserves the data on the SD. Then re-insert SD into device, and CM13 seems to read it fine. This doesn't always work, but often does to fix the problem with CM13 reading the SD.
May or may not work in your situation, but just throwing it out there, as its worth a try.

Removable storage is what you want. I'm pretty sure you'll run into problems if you try to format as internal storage (it becomes a part of the internal storage associated with the other M8) and swap the SD to another phone.
Why not try what I suggested, just to see if it works or not? It just takes a couple minutes, so it couldn't hurt. That is, unless you don't have a card reader connected to your PC.
Just tried your way...still giving me the same error...it crashes immediately when the formatting process starts...don't even think it even gets time to initiate the process..could it be that this particular ROM is bugged?

If you try another ROM, and don't get the problem; than its pretty likely a bug in the ROM. But on the other hand, if its a problem with the ROM, I would think that others would have reported it in the ROM thread.
Is your firmware up to date?
