Was on the 6.0.1 MM then Odin back to 5.1.1 took the last security update. I didn't notice this till now. It wouldn't work in 6.0.1 and now it won't work with 5.1.1.

Looks like you're going to have to factory reset unfortunately.. That shouldn't have been grayed out to begin with... As soon as you tapped on the build number 7 times that should have been ready to go but in any case tap on it 7 times again and if not then factory reset.

I'd odin the firmware but then again, I don't think you can use Odin without USB Debugging on..
Download terminal from the Play Store and see if this works, if not, then I don't know..
This probably won't work since you need root but it's not going to hurt to try.

Odin will work either way. Odin uses download mode to flash to the phone.
I have Odin it back to 5.1.1 and same issue but didn't think to check until system had already been restored. I am back on 6.0.1 I am thinking it is My Knox security or something as I have company email on my phone.

If Knox is installed on your phone and it's a company phone, then that's why it's like that.. You'd have to get rid of it but your probably going to need permission from said company since it's probably password protected.

Is a personal phone. They allow BYOD but have to allow their security but usually is contained within My Knox but I guess that USB debug is one thing it disables outside of Knox.

I can confirm that it was KNOX that killed it. I removed KNOX to see and when I checked it was able to be enabled again.

He failed trying to root. So yes he needs stock firmware but I figured rooted was the prefrence. The addition of superuser isnt going to make a difference. Also if he failed to get root then he most likely has a stock recovery which makes what you linked essentially worthless. If he wants it unrooted my link covers that as well. Trust me on this.
Ok, but he cant install a rooted stock rom if hes not rooted?

Yes he can. Using Odin which is what I linked. It's an Odin one click. Which will unbrick and add root simultaneously. Do you actually own a Samsung?

To me it looks like it's just failing md5 check so maybe a bad download or wrong download. What I would do is search around this forum for a different download and put that on instead of the one you have. There is a Google drive stock firmware somewhere in forum that downloads pretty fast and that one worked in Odin for me. I'm from us also.

Did you make a nandroid backup with twrp? If not you should always make one before you do anything just in case you run into a problem. You can always restore it if something goes wrong. I've learned over the years to make a nandroid backup before flashing anything.

Should be fine, just needs rom.
The rom you were trying to flash was corrupted and the MD5 sum wasn't the same. If you want to avoid this again then I would suggest to get an MD5 sum checker program easily found and downloaded via a google search. You can download the rom, take note of the MD5 and then check before trying to flash....

More than likely because of this http://www.computerworld.com/s/arti...s_to_some_Samsung_Galaxy_devices?pageNumber=1
This indeed is the most recent update Rolled out by Samsung. It very well could be related to the flaw discovered. It is also likely meant to answer the signal issues some users have experienced with the last update. I have posted a little guide to Root this version.

im on unofficial PE6.
Is it worth downgrading and upgrading to the official PE6?
Will I lose everything and have to reinstall from scratch?
Is there a shortcut way to do the upgrade from unofficial PE6?
Is there anything different in the official build?
Did I forget anything?
Same build number. They're identical. Your build is already official and was all along. You can confirm that by looking at Settings->System->About device->Status, where it says "Device status = Official".

It depends on how hackable you want your phone to be. BPE5 doesn't have the latest security updates, and probably won't let your phone accept the next OTA security update, whenever that comes out.
I meant like, what's the easiest route to get to the official build from pe5

The question is.what.happens on the next.update. For those of us that sideloaded early, will we be able to get those update or is it inevitable that we will have to go down to APE3 first?..

If you've sideloaded BPE6, you're fine. If you're still on BPE5, you'll likely have to sideload APE3 (or some other release) before receiving subsequent OTAs.

I downgraded my phone back to LL and unlocked the device successfully (the screen when starting the phone was white) but then when i upgraded to MM to be able to install LineageOS 14.1 the startup screen is black again.
How do i know if the bootloader is locked? and if it is locked how can i unlock it?

If you are on mm bootloader, once it's unlocked, you will get a verification error message when you boot. It's harmless, but at least it is an indicator that you are unlocked.

It's a hardware issue with your screen. It's from a few bad pixels in the top line of where it starts to go bad. A temporary work around is to use an overlay app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.applay.overlay
Use it to make a small white square overlay and position it over the top edge of the bad area. You'll have to experiment with the size and position until the rest of the screen is clear again.
The only real fix is to replace the screen. Which, if you're handy and can do it yourself, is not very expensive at all. (under $20 US) there are several YouTube videos that show how.

One other thing, the replacement screen most likely won't be gorilla glass like the original. So you might want to get a tempered glass screen protector.
