Nexus 7 2013 Marshmallow 6.01 Stock with Root? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Is there a stock image with root I can use with my Nexus 7?
Right now I am using Dirty Unicorns and it overheats and freezes to the point where I have to reset.

How do you feel about a factory image, then just using Chainfires Auto-Root in bootloader to get root? Dont forget to lock bootloader afterwards and you will have a stable and secure device
Your device is:
without LTE flo / razor
with LTA deb / razorg
Factory Images (by google)
dev elopers.goo gle.com/androi d/nex us/ima ges
Auto-Root (by Chainfire)- hint: dont flash that zip. try unzipping and using the root-"insert your OS here" instead
auto root.chai nfire.eu/#fast boot
Sorry for the spaces in the URLs but the board restricts outgoing links from new users

I can't flash the Chainfire zip in Fastboot mode?

Flash this in TWRP. Stock 6.0.1 with root. Nothing simpler.

I flashed the stock ROM. Runs like a dream now.

The above is stock ROM, just with BusyBox and Root, which is what I thought you wanted?

Nexus 7 OTA Error

Well, I used a factory reset tool to reset my rom back to stock. However, when I try to do a system update, it goes all the way to the end and says Error. Note that I can get into my tablet before I launch the update, but afterwards it just boots into recovery and I have to hard reset and reset my device using the aforementioned factory reset tool. Basically all I want to know is if it has anything to do with me recovering from the tool, or are OTA's iffy? I bought the device yesterday and I love it. I rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, etc. So yes it is modified. However It is not in anyway bricked. I just want to know if it's possible to do an official OTA from System Update, or do I have to use the one provided on the Index of the Nexus 7 Flo forum? Thanks for any help. Like I said, It's not bricked, I'm not complaining. Just a few questions

Well, without much detail about the error, it's hard to help. Are you just stock rooted with stock recovery? If so, you should be able to take an OTA no problem, although you'd lose root. But you can always flash supersu to get it back. Did you install a custom recovery to root? Or did you use a toolkit? Lots of questions. If you have a custom recovery, you'd have to fastboot flash the stock recovery from the factory image. If you still have the stock recovery and are just stock rooted, you've probably modified the system in some way. In that case, you can just fastboot flash the stock system image.

Stock Rooted with Stock Recovery. It downloads the OTA no issue, but when in download mode, it gets to the very end and says Error!. I used CFAutoRoot for rooting. I used fastboot to unlock the bootloader and install custom recovery.

Since you have stock recovery, there's probably an app that modified your system that's not allowing it to install the update because it detects a change in one of your system files. Fastboot flash the system image from the stock factory image. Then, it should update.

I'm assuming you're on 4.3 since you're trying to update? Either way, you can find the factory images here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images.
Just download the the one for the version you're currently running on your N7. MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT ONE. Then, just extract the files from the tar.gz file. There's another zip file in that tar.gz file. Extract that one, and there's a system.img file. Fastboot flash it in the bootloader.

4.3.1 rooted, how to go to 4.4.2 ?

Hi dudes,
I've got a used Nexus 7 (2013) on android 4.3.1 firmware but rooted ...
I'd like to go to the lastest firmware 4.4.2 I guess, so I wonder if I can do a upgrade using the wifi as an unrooted tab or not ?
My tab is rooted , is it a problem for upgrading ?
If so, I'd rather unroot it, I prefere tablet as brand new ...
is there a way to brick my tab using the official update (by wifi) ?
Thanks !
If you are not receiving the update, just unroot it, and return it to stock. You can use the Nexus Root Toolkit by Wugfresh. It's really simple to use, and the help section is really good. Goggle it.
Have you tried going into settings, and going into system updates? Just having the tablet rooted, should not prevent you from receiving updates. Now, if it's routed with a custom rom, that's a different story. Good luck
--=={BSnapp} ==--
hi, it is rooted with the official firmware 4.3.1 I Guess( is there a way to see if it's a custom or official firmware ?)
and I've got the notification of the 4.4.2 upgrade ...
?
In parameters here is what I've got :
band base version
DEB-G00_2.25.1_0802
kernel version
3.4.0-g9e52a21
[email protected]$1
so official one ?
I see that you have the LTE model (DEB.). If you could post a screenshot of your About Tablet screen, one of us should be able to help you.

apparently, trying to do a recevory using the POWER and UP trick, it seemes the guy before me has installed clockworkmod recovery v6.0.4.4 so what should I do ?
You could flash a 4.4.2 ROM using Clockwork Mod recovery. NOTE: Please research and double check every step before flashing. The basics are: make sure that you have plenty of battery life; make a backup of your current ROM; do a factory reset in Clockwork Mod; select a 4.4.2 specific to your device, e.g., Paranoid Android for DEB; download a zip file of SuperSu 1.94; download Gapps; then flash the ROM, Gapps, & Supersu. Again: read, read, read through XDA before flashing anything. EDIT: Make sure that you have the most recent Clockwork Mod version for your device.

well, I'm gonna uninstalle the whole thing (imean CWM and the root access)
Do you think this tuto is good ?

I understand only English, so I don't know. I do know that as Bsnapp's post states, Wug's Nexus Toolkit works well for unrooting and flashing stock. Back up your files first.

I am sure Google is preparing an OTA from 5.x to 6.0 and will have it out shortly. Just because they haven't dropped an OTA for it doesn't mean that they aren't going to release it for us, the factory image already exists so it's only a matter of time, patience is a virtue, especially with Google.
You absolutely can sideload the ROM. You'll want to download it from Google here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en onto your computer and unzip it.
Download the latest version of the ROM then open Settings, hit About, and tap Build Number seven times until it says that You're a developer or something similar. Once it says that, press Back, open Development Settings, turn on USB Debugging and then plug the tablet into your computer. Run flash-all.bat within the folder you unzipped and if everything goes well, your tablet should end up in fastboot with the images flashing.
i've installed it myself when it came out and got the OTA update this week.
Not in rush as others has mentioned that 6.0 is somewhat buggy and lags on nexus 7....

I already have the 6.0 stock firmware on my Nexus, and I get the OTA, choose to install it, but it boots into TWRP and doesn't install? How can I flash the 6.0 update?
Thanks,
^You have to be totally stock to take ota's. Including recovery.
If you didn't modify any system files just flash the stock recovery.img from the version you're on and the ota will work.
But at that point why not just flash the newest boot and system.img and be done with it?

Yeah. I have TWRP now.
So how would I get future updates? What's the best process if I don't wanna get rid of TWRP?

That's what I thought. Where do I get the incremental updates to flash? Or do I have to flash the entire firmware again? Data Loss?

You can download the official images from google and extract them. The sequence should be flashing the boot and radio, then reboot your bootloader, then flash the rest .img files and if you dont want your data to be wiped just dont flash the cache.img and userdata.img . You can find a proper guide just googling it.

DISCLAIMER: This is gonna void the hell out of your warranty, etc etc
I used Odin to flash TWRP and then used TWRP to install SuperSU. Note: If you're gonna do that, be sure to boot to TWRP immediately after you install it (home+vol-up) when Odin reboots it, then immediately install the SuperSU zip, otherwise it has a tendency to uninstall TWRP on you as soon as it boots into the system. NOTE: If you do this, it will for some reason break your Back button. You can flash idleKernel to fix that.
Flashing SuperSU should disable KNOX. FYI, ROMs for most Note versions will work on the canadian version/N900W8/hltecan. I've installed N9005 and N900T ROMs with no issues, just be aware you might lose NFC.

I do not think so ( but I could be wrong ), I am using 7.1.1 and have TWRP and SU installed and working.
You can always just flash factory images from Google to go back to stock anytime, its pretty easy.

correct, the steps are the same like with any other previous Android version.
rooting 7.1.1 is easy plus the assistant also works with build prop tweak, pixel launcher works, also arise works flawlessly
