Gmail/Inbox & Apps Autosync? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hey All, long time lurker here, but totally stumped this time.
So I've got my 10 and I love it, but in recent days it has only been syncing Gmail/Inbox when I'm connected to WiFi, but not over mobile data. I show 4-5/5 bars and LTE service, plus I can browse on the internet so I know it's not a mobile service issue.
Is this happening to anyone else? Is this just like a battery saving option? Did I just accidentally change some setting for this? I've checked all the AutoSync and accounts settings, but couldn't find anything...

Has anyone any idea on this? Myself along with two other people I know with HTC 10 US unlocked devices are having the same issue. However even on Wi-Fi the only way we get any gmail is if we go into the app, or turn off the battery saver. Only way to get gmail on data is by opening the app. Also, it's not carrier related, we are on two different carriers

Wifi grayed out

This has been going on for some time now. I cannot actually pinpoint when it happened. But whenever I am at work, I can connect to the network and it's grayed out. I can still browse and use some app but I don't get notifications from my apps and cannot use Google Talk, for example. That entire app is grayed out.
It's an 802.1x EAP - PEAP - MSCHAPV2.
Anyone got any ideas or tricks to fix this? It used to work before and it doesn't. I do not believe anything changed on our end. And I also cannot just restart the router at work. Thanks in advance.

Can you access gmail directly? Sounds like google services may be blocked by your network admin? Just a guess...
Im trying to understand what exactly is happening with you.
Are you getting a wifi signal and no notifications?
or are you not getting any wifi signal at all?
If you are getting a connection but notifications and google apps dont work, it could be that your work router those ports blocked or has a firewall infront of it.
If you are not getting any wifi signal at all, I would try and backup everything, and do a factory rest - update. basically a stock, unrooted wipe and reflash.
Don't know why our how to fix it. But I know that if your wifi is gray you still have data connection. And if it's blue your connected to Google services as well
Jellin' like a felon
Okay, thanks guys. The ports may be blocked. I get WiFi connection, but the indicator is grayed out. When that is so, I can still go into an app and use it with manual refreshes but I never get notifications automatically like I'm supposed to. They only start to pop in one I leave with and get back in the cellular network. And for an app like gtalk, I cannot use whatsoever as I'm signed out.

This happened to me before and basically it was how my IT guy setup our WiFi network in our office. I couldn't use any Google push services on my phone (gmail, gtalk, calender, etc...). Every thing would work fine when I was on data connection, but would stop on WiFi. I just stopped using my work WiFi when I was in the office. It definitely had something to do with the firewall/privileges of the WiFi network.

port blocked..
google push notification and so gtalk need ports like 5222,5223,5228
usually in a work wifi only port 80 (http traffic) and 443 (httpS traffic) are open

Do you have wifi set to turn off when the display turns off?
I came across this thread because I'm having the same problem with my GS3, the only thing that solved it was installing a WiFi manager app from the market.
Factory reset plus downgrading from 4.2.2 to 4.2.0 was the only thing that worked for me.
FIX FOR GREY WIFI/MOBILE DATA, and google account sync
HI THERE, sorry im new to e forum, anyways im using a SGS 3LTE with custom rom CM 10.2 android 4.3, CWM touch recovery. So many people are not able to connect to the play store and services over wifi, but only over mobile data. Another issue is that the cellular data and wifi tend to remain grey, unlike that of android 4.0 and back which remains blue. So to solve this heres what i did.
DID EVERY F**KING CRAP OUT THERE. DIDNT WORK.
What i did: use a file manager with root access, look for 'hosts' file in systempath 'system/etc/' and deleted it. So far so good, its permanently blue for both wifi and cellular data, and also i am able to access google apps and store without a hitch.
DO SHARE WITH ME UR FINDINGS/RESULTS AND SPREAD THE LOVE PEOPLE
On a side note: i used to flash and modify small roms for my old htc hd2, but the above fix was heard from a website from god knows where LOL, im singaporean, i speak singlish, and im proud of it so im not gonna apologise for the broken english
In case this helps anyone, the way I solved it at home with my Galaxy Nexus is by changing the setting of the router to Wireless G or N only. I have two routers, so I set one on 802.11g and the other on 802.11n only. By default my DLinks came with mixed wireless protocols. The problem with this is that it seems to confuse devices. That's why they also used to take long to connect to Wifi in general. Since I've made them only one standard now, they connect very quickly. Also, because I had mixed B, G and N on my best router, I never got to really use N. Turns out I had my authentication on WEP, and the only way you're getting N is by using WEP2 with AES.
Fix is here
Hello There, I tried to reset phone, clearing chache,Data but it wont work but now
I have a quick solution on this issue and grey wifi becomes blue in some minutes.
All you need is "Rooted Phone"
1.Install : Root Explorer
2. Grant SuperSU permission to Root Explorer
3. Mount Root Explorer into Read/Write (R/W).
4. Go To System > etc > locate "HOSTS" file in etc folder.
5. Edit Hosts file using root explorer
6. Insert the symbol # before the second set of IP address numbers then save the changes and exit.
7. Reboot your phone...
8. wifi icon will be blue as you start your phone back and some apps like Google play store, keep, etc will be start as normal.
Thanks.

Wifi notification off .. still getting notifications.

I can't tell if this was already asked as I can't search individual forums for some reason. Hopefully I'm not duping a question. Anyways, I've turned my wifi notification off in system settings->wifi->advanced->network notification but am still getting it on occasion, i suspect though not 100% sure, when there's absolutely no network available (ie underground). Anyone else? Am I missing another option somewhere?
I've seen that as well... I think it's seeing that there isn't a mobile network available, so it's trying to help you out. Not sure if I like it, but it seems to be the case. I think I saw a setting about automatically switching to wifi when no mobile is available. Perhaps that feature is doing it?

Google Maps location not working in power saving mode

I'm using a Tab S 8.4 LTE, having an issue using Google Maps. When Location is in power saving mode, trying to find my location in Google Maps just gives me a dialog box asking me to turn on GPS to improve location accuracy, and after I decline the blue location button simply refuses to work. Google Maps is the only app that has this problem, every single other app that needs to find location has no problem using Power Saving Mode location service to find my location, whether it's a weather app like Accuweather or a map app like Citymapper, or even the browser version of Google Maps. When I choose to turn on GPS it actually does find my location immediately, while the device is still searching for a GPS signal. I already tried clearing cache and data and reinstalling Maps. My Tab S is my only device that is having this problem. Does anyone else get this?

The thing is pal by declining the only thing it has to work off then is your WiFi and mobile data which takes longer.
For anybody who disagrees with the wifi not being usable as a location aid well it surprised me to find that when google sent those vans around taking those lovely detailed photos of your street thats not all they were after. They also logged every wireless network they went past with their location at the time so that if needed you only had to have wifi switched on and an internet connection to give a pretty accurate reading of your location...
And theyve gone even further...they dont need to send vans out to keep this list updated.., they actually use your phones ...so you become a network information gathering tool which sends back to google any wifi networks you find combined with the strengh and location you were in
Sneaky blighters
So in answer to your question either turn on gps or turn on your wifi and mobile data...or just wifi if its connected to the net.

It doesn't just take longer, it just doesn't work at all in any way, even with both WiFi and mobile data turned on. Instantly works when I activate GPS, even if I'm indoors and the device still hasn't find a GPS signal to refine the location.

Like I said everything that isn't google maps app, including the browser Google Maps, has no problems. In desperation I tried a factory reset too but that didn't work. I just wondered if its only me who is having this issue.

Cellular data battery drain

Hello everyone!
I don't know why, but since last week the battery drains faster than it has before. There is no apparent reason for it. There is only one anomaly, one process that seems to use a lot of the cellular network, and that is the WhatsApp...
How can I examine this further on an unrooted phone??
Thx in advanced !
If the cellular network at your place is weak, your phone will use more power energy to maintain network connection. In such case, I think you'd better install the app named Greenify to stop Whatsapp from background running.

That's the thing... It's not weak. It just drains the battery more than it had before for some unknown and not apparent reason at all.
i was having a problem like that, i turned up mobile data and using only whatsapp, with a big battery drain, the solution for me was disable fast telephony from the hidden menu in the telephone and now the problem is gone
I guess "fast telephony" = "fast dormancy", right?

Let us know if it works.
Disabling fast dormancy is ok if your carrier does not implement it otherwise if they do you want it on. Given your problem happened suddenly i doubt that is the reason.
When people have problems with whats app. clear cache or failing that, reinstalling the app has fixed it.

Well, it doesn't seem to have any effect on the usage of mobile data of the WhatsApp app...
Also clearing the cache and uninstalling and reinstalling the app didn't have the desired effect.
Any other solutions?

Mobile Radio Active Bug draining battery

Dears,
On my op3, which is running with Experience OS and Blue spark Kernel, always the Whats app coming on top of the battery stats even though I opened it less time. It is showing that "Mobile Radio Active" is enabled for hours. I can not switch off the Data while the screen off because it may delay the notifications. I understood that the modem is not disconnecting from data even if the app become not in foreground stage. What ever the app I used for data restriction reduced the Deep sleep time since it were keeping alive in the back end to restrict the data service. Is there any solution to get rid the Mobile Radio Active bug.
No there isn't, it is a known thing since Android Lollipop.

Why google is not taking care about this since it is a serious bug? But I think not everyone facing this issue. Some of them are getting good battery backup without having mobile radio active issue.

With Whatsapp this is expected. All of Facebooks apps are known to be terrible battery drainers. It is part of the reason that it never took off in the states. Also anything like that will always keep the radio active. It is the nature of the app. As long as you use it then you will get battery drain.

It's nothing Google can do. It is Facebook. The apps is badly coded just like their main app and messenger. As long as you rely on it for messaging (not sure why people do) then you will have to deal with it.

No bro, I don't think it is because of Facebook. I am not using facebook at all. But me too having the issue. I think it is clearly a mobile data modem issue. Mobile radio is not disconnecting even after android system closed the foreground app. Only android devs can resolve it.

You miss the fact that whatsapp is a facebook app. Owned and written by facebook.
If mobile data disconnects then you would not get notified. Data is how that app works.
If you do some research you will find this to be true.
Again this is how messaging apps work. It doesnt seem like you have alot of experience in mobile OS programming.
My advice would be to use a different app like Telegram. This is what most of the world uses. As to whats app is mainly used in developing countries but not much outside of them.

Yes but if you look closely he is not using the device. And to be honest, I don't think it's real. I have never seen android display something when there is no usage like for the GPS in that screen shot.
I know it can last for days without using it as that is what happens to my device on the weekends. I unplug it sat morning and only use it when someone calls me and I don't have to plug it back in until Monday morning. Mind you that is really not using the phone much at all.
it has got no fix yet. May be this goes away in Oreo.
Sorry if someone has already pointed this before.. But have u tried turning the data saver mode on?
Once ON, make sure you disable unlimited data for Google play services and whatsapp.. (in settings, app, data usage)
I tried it and somehow it worked
