I know the difference between the two versions. I just want to know why so many are creating for just rc33 lite. Only fade to blue works with my regular rc33 version. Other then getting rid of notifications and ringtones (which i dont want to do) how can i make these themes work. Thanks.
Its an issue with allocated space.
That's why the notifications and ringtones are removed in lite.
Maybe once theme devs start compressing more we wont need lite.
just copy them to the media/audio directory ringdroid creates, ull save the phone mem space and have all ur ringtones/alarms/notifs
Topdnbass, Thanks. Pablizzo how do i do that.
Its not that they are making it for RC33 lite, Lite was made to accomodate those themes. Larger, more full, themes are higher in size and need to have space in the OS to be run. The only way to work around that would be to have smaller/less developed themes or make room some other how
check THIS thread and d/l the audio. install reingdroid (if not already installed), make a custom ringtone to create the folder and symlinks. Then copy the files you downloaded into sdcard/media/audio/

It has nothing to do with more or less developed themes...my theme is pretty full, but i figured out by compressing the png files the theme will work with the full RC33, not only that but its a lot faster and more stable. Some of these other themes i have tried are very slow and clunky. I believe all of those images are loaded into ram, so the smaller the file size the better.

I used that too...but then found out it didnt compress that good. Someone posted a link to PNGOutWin somewhere here. It compresses the images a tad bit more, after doing it in PS. The only thing is, it's a trial version.
Yeah i seen that post...problem with that though is if its a .9 will it keep the hidden border?
the 9.png's don't look good when being compressed with pngoutwin . It compresses the images a tad bit more, and you can compresses all the images in a folder and folders in the folder but need to remove the 9.png's.
i noticed to when you run the .9's thru Eclipse and compile the .9's it shrinks them to. But i think my next theme will need to run on RC33 lite. the fancier the graphics the less it will compress them...check these out at the bottom. The originals and the boring strait colors were 1kb or smaller.
The images are for the textfield in the contacts and dialer. when you press any numbers on the dialer.
btn_dial_textfield_pressed.9.png (2.6 KB)
png.gif btn_dial_textfield_selected.9.png (2.5 KB)
png.gif btn_dial_textfield_selected_full.9.png (2.7 KB)
png.gif btn_dial_delete_selected.9.png (2.5 KB)
you can actually just create a folder named "audio" in the root of your sd card with a folder for "notifications" and one for "ringtones" and any media files located within will be read as such. atleast after i did a full whipe on mine and rooted it with rc33l thats all i did and it read everything automatically. this way i didnt have to install ringdroid and it still picks up custom ringtones and alerts.
You can also name the "audio " folder as "music" and still have the same effect.
This was actually the first thing i was able to figure out, due to my want for all my personal ringtones and notifications. As long as the folders in that folder are correctly named "ringtones", "notifications", and "alarms"

I know this is an old subject, but for compressing PNG's quickly, you can also try PNGGauntlet. It's freeware.
The title kinda sums it up. I'm looking for an app (not necessarily for android) that will compare 2 archives, say apk files, and show the files that are "different".
My ideal use would be to compare modified apk's, e.g. a stock apk and a modded, to show which files, in compiled state obviously, have been modified, added, or removed.. just to facilitate learning. Another use case: I have a ton of apks I've modded and it would be helpful to scan them, and return a report saying, "these 2 apks are identical except for those 2 pngs in the blabla folder."
Anyone feelin me here? Or does anyone use a different method? (Besides just being really organized)
this is all i can find if you find anything better please let me know

There is a midnight commander port to android. I'm not sure if it supports archives or not but it sounds like it'd be exactly what you need if it does.

If they are yours
Well this is how i do it.
I decompile first apk using Apk tool
Open project folder and copy the nameofapkhere.apk folder and paste into folder call it say version 1.
decompile second apk using Apk tool
Open project folder and copy the nameofapkhere.apk folder and paste into folder call it say version 2.
Open FolderMatch available here -> http://www.foldermatch.com/fmwindiff1.htm
setup all dependencies and then run the and it can even do md5 check, and line by line check.
Use filter of as many kind as you like date time, size, etc what ever
I have notepad++ installed with some add ons, and you can open the simali from within the folder compare and they display as seperate tabs within the same notepad ++ application. You can then run a line by line compare of the simali code with the compare add-on.
Back in FolderMatch you can synch certain files or even parts of files or you can cut n paste code of your choice to your second apk.
You can repackage again then afterwards....but we are saying that you're comparing two of your own apks
If your comparing R...zip files then side by side visually within 7zip you can se date stamps alone and usually the file system type i.e. FAT and so on.
James
Thanks James! I really like this for comparing, for example, the new Google voice update with the previous ver , both for theming and to get a real change log.
I'll check that out.

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 with two problems at hand.
First of all, my GPS does not lock onto any sattelites at all. I've come to realize that this is related to an incorrect configuration file. As far as I know, a # at the beginning of a statement means that that statement is a remark, and not actual code. Thus, it's ignored.
If you look at my gps.conf file below, you will notice that many of the lines contain a # at the beginning. I have a general idea of which should remain. However, I'd like to know all those of which should/can be removed. If someone could just rewrite it removing all the # which should not be included, that would be awesome!

My second problem has to do with the power_profile.xml file. It was noted that certain S3s had a problem with an incorrect value in the power_profile.xml file, which resulted in Cell Standby topping the list for battery drainage. I have taken a look at that file on my S3, and noticed that I am affected by that incorrect value (34 instead of 3.4).
The problem is that the fixed XML file available for download seems slightly different to the one currently in my S3, in more ways than just that value. I'd like to know whether it's safe to make the switch. Or, does anyone have a fixed power_profile.xml which they wish to share with me, that definitely works on the AT&T S3?
I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I wasn't able to find anything completely answering my questions. Thanks in advance for the help, and it's much appreciated!

You probably downloaded the XML file like I initially did...and for the same reason...I did NOT want to replace it. But this much smaller flashable CWM fix only changes the VALUE in question...not the whole XML file....as far as I can tell. It has worked for my on my i747m for months. Do a CWM backup first!

Actually, that is the same fix I downloaded. I extracted it just to take a look at it first before doing anything, and noticed that inside, it had a power_profile.xml slightly different to the one currently in my phone. So, I'm not sure whether to flash this or not. Or alternatively, is there any way which I can simply edit this file myself? I've tried several XML editors, but they all show weird symbols throughout, when I open that XML file. Though I can clearly see the value that I need to change, but I don't want to end up saving the file from a program that can't properly read it, ending up with a corrupt file flashed to my phone. Unless, that is how the file actually looks.
Sorry for all the noobish questions, but I have only had my S3 and been on Android for a couple of months now. Was on iOS before, and did a lot of tinkering on that side of the smartphone world.

If you could also send me/share your gps.conf file so I can compare it with mine, that would be great! As I believe in addition to many lines being set as a remark, there are several lines also missing within there, such as for AGPS.

For starters, here is my gps.conf file.
There is only one area with slight differences but they are commented out with the # sign so it's irrelevant.
I have the i747m Rogers and you have AT&T. They should be pretty close with most core OS contents...as is this file.
I am assuming you are on Stock ICS? (not JB or custom)
Humor me...download Ulysse Gizmos 1.6.2 and use this to try to lock into sats. Test from outside OR inside but touching a window.
Stay tuned for XML.
PS...Xanadu....name from Rush by any chance?
UPDATE: Upload your stock power_profile.xml file (upload it) and I will check it against mine.
I just compared the FIXED one for the i9300....with my Stock i747m version and the only change is the value 34 to 3.4.
That's why it worked perfectly for me and probably will be EXACTLY the same for you.
Well that's interesting. Our gps.conf files are exactly the same. So, what could be the problem? I'm baffled.
Maybe I should also throw in that I'm using an unlocked AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III outside of the states. I'm in the Caribbean to be exact, if that makes any difference. (?)
I'll also try that app which you mentioned and report back.
As for my power_profile.xml, it's included below for comparison. Thanks!

Yes your location could be a huge reason.
You probably need to modify gps.conf for where you are.
When I was running my HD2, I had to do that to optimize the GPS,
but in your case...it's probably even more important.
Look around for an XDA page that focuses on the GPS ZONES for your area.
Start HERE. You may just want to extract certain elements and place them into your gps.conf file as needed.
UPDATE: your power_profile.xml is identical to mine. So go ahead and flash the CWM standby fix. ALWAYS do a CWM backup first!!!

Download this files and place it in /system/etc .... permission it to rw r r
then delete all files in /data/gps folder
restart and use gpstest to see results. try it with data on on first try to fix the satellite faster.

Hi,
What is the best approach to implement different designs for tablets and phones. I have an application which has a totally different design on tablet than phone. Is it advisable to keep both in the same apk? or make separate APKs?
Thanks in advance
Use a single apk. It's not a good practice on Android to publish a "HD" version of your app as it is often seen in iOS. You can easily create to different xml layout files and put the one for Tablets in the layout-large folder.
Yeah, use resource modifiers and flexible layouts using Fragments.
Google has got a great documentation on that topic.
Google for "android designing for different screens".
Check this answer I posted in another thread:

The best approach if you have custom images is to make different images sizes for each image and put them in the corresponding dpi folder in the res folder so that the app pulls the nearest image size from the dpi folder that it needs to do that same with the layout make a low medium high and xdpi layout file so that the app can layout its elements in the correct way for each dpi setting

Yes, you can. As long as you know when it is tablet or not and you will carefully defining and crafting the UI on the java code. There are some techniques to define if the current device is tablet or not (but not 100% true if let say later there are android phones has full hd with 1080p or more). One of the technique is by defining value on the res/values (for phone) with boolean value isTablet = false; define value on res/value-large and values-swXXXdp (where XXX is your target pixel for tablet) with boolean value of isTablet = true.
From the java code you can simply get the values and start from there.
I thought that I complained about this previously, but a search comes up with nothing.
If you attach a PNG to a forum post it gets converted to a JPEG.
Often (usually? always?) the JPEG is actually larger and certainly lower resolution.
Usually my PNGs are of reasonable dimension, but I recently posted a 1920 x 457 (30,429 bytes) PNG.
It got converted to a 640 x 152 (24,190 bytes) JPEG.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2349364&d=1382709646
The thing is, sometimes (at least in the past) I post a PNG and it stays a PNG.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2138290&d=1374617764
To post a PNG as an attachment that gets converted into an illegible JPEG and also to pack it as a zip attachment is a hassle, both for poster and reader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24061856&postcount=11
I'll ask the server admin to pop in and let him comment on this.
Previous limit for PNGs was 640x640, so if it was larger than that it would be converted to jpg and downsized. JPG doesn't have that limit, so I don't think PNG should either. I've lifted it, so you should be able to post large png files now. Please test and let me know.
Thanks, that fixed it!
