I know the difference between the two versions. I just want to know why so many are creating for just rc33 lite. Only fade to blue works with my regular rc33 version. Other then getting rid of notifications and ringtones (which i dont want to do) how can i make these themes work. Thanks.
Its an issue with allocated space.
That's why the notifications and ringtones are removed in lite.
Maybe once theme devs start compressing more we wont need lite.
just copy them to the media/audio directory ringdroid creates, ull save the phone mem space and have all ur ringtones/alarms/notifs
Topdnbass, Thanks. Pablizzo how do i do that.
Its not that they are making it for RC33 lite, Lite was made to accomodate those themes. Larger, more full, themes are higher in size and need to have space in the OS to be run. The only way to work around that would be to have smaller/less developed themes or make room some other how
check THIS thread and d/l the audio. install reingdroid (if not already installed), make a custom ringtone to create the folder and symlinks. Then copy the files you downloaded into sdcard/media/audio/

It has nothing to do with more or less developed themes...my theme is pretty full, but i figured out by compressing the png files the theme will work with the full RC33, not only that but its a lot faster and more stable. Some of these other themes i have tried are very slow and clunky. I believe all of those images are loaded into ram, so the smaller the file size the better.

I used that too...but then found out it didnt compress that good. Someone posted a link to PNGOutWin somewhere here. It compresses the images a tad bit more, after doing it in PS. The only thing is, it's a trial version.
Yeah i seen that post...problem with that though is if its a .9 will it keep the hidden border?
the 9.png's don't look good when being compressed with pngoutwin . It compresses the images a tad bit more, and you can compresses all the images in a folder and folders in the folder but need to remove the 9.png's.
i noticed to when you run the .9's thru Eclipse and compile the .9's it shrinks them to. But i think my next theme will need to run on RC33 lite. the fancier the graphics the less it will compress them...check these out at the bottom. The originals and the boring strait colors were 1kb or smaller.
The images are for the textfield in the contacts and dialer. when you press any numbers on the dialer.
btn_dial_textfield_pressed.9.png (2.6 KB)
png.gif btn_dial_textfield_selected.9.png (2.5 KB)
png.gif btn_dial_textfield_selected_full.9.png (2.7 KB)
png.gif btn_dial_delete_selected.9.png (2.5 KB)
you can actually just create a folder named "audio" in the root of your sd card with a folder for "notifications" and one for "ringtones" and any media files located within will be read as such. atleast after i did a full whipe on mine and rooted it with rc33l thats all i did and it read everything automatically. this way i didnt have to install ringdroid and it still picks up custom ringtones and alerts.
You can also name the "audio " folder as "music" and still have the same effect.
This was actually the first thing i was able to figure out, due to my want for all my personal ringtones and notifications. As long as the folders in that folder are correctly named "ringtones", "notifications", and "alarms"

I know this is an old subject, but for compressing PNG's quickly, you can also try PNGGauntlet. It's freeware.

I searched around a bit, and couldn't find any other similar threads, but by all means, delete this if I'm wrong.
I've put together a compilation of all the ringtones, alarms, and notifications I have come across in the various android builds that are currently out there.
I found that after hopping from one build to another (particularly from a G to an H build), the ringtone/alarm/notification sets are completely different. I put this together to have the best (well, all i guess) of each build, and figured i would share.
**Newly updated link (7/7/09) as i've added more tones from the latest legitimate Hero build, Ophone, And a few others.
Tone Counts:
31 Alarms (up from 18)
97 Notifications (up from 61)
134 Ringtones (up from 116)
Extract these folders (Ringtones, Notifications, Alarms) to the root of your SD card, and the phone will recognize the files automatically.
Note: If you will almost certainly have doubles when you browse your tones on the device. To remedy this, you can either completely delete all tones from your phone via ADB, or:
Go to your tone selection screen, make note of which tones you currently have, and delete those tones form this package before copying it to your SD card.
If i missed any tones from other builds, let me know and I'll add them.
Also, you are obviously free to save some space by deleting tones that you dislike prior to uploading them.

Thank you! =] you might want to remove the MACOSX folder in the zip. lol. and all the DS_Store files.
thanks man, i've been creaeting my own cause i was too lazy to hop from one build to another every day. i like some of the stock G1 sounds but didn't feel like trying to pull them from updates or the phone itself
great job on this!!
if you push all of those to system, you are going to run out of space.

True... i'm a bit of a minimalist when it comes to apps and such, i really only use about 15 apps that aren't stock. After pushing these to /system, i have 53MB of free space on the phone.
Heed The Dude's warning though, if you're the type that likes a lot of aftermarket apps, you may want to filter out the tones which you know you won't use, consider doing Apps2SD, or just keep these on your SD card.
PS - I'll update later with a version which doesn't contain the MACOSX/DS_Store files, they are un-needed, so for now just delete them manually.
Maybe this is not the right thread for this, but is there a notification for SMS/MMS when you're talking on the phone?

Even with apps2sd, low space warnings will occur.
why do you bother to push them on system?
just keep the same folder tree on sdcard.
media/audio
and in this audio folder : alarms notification ringtones and ui
Thanks so much,
Greate work.
You don't need to push them onto the system partition. If you just drop the audio folder on the SDcard, you will have the same result and it will even stick around between builds.
something weird is going on here.. i pushed them to the phone.. everything appeared to be successful but whenever i mount my sd card to the pc all of the ring and notification tones disappear from the menus until i disconnect it
Fixed it! yay!
Using this + /Audio folder on SDCARD with the CM v3.2 build, works perfectly. No need to push any tones, the sytem finds the audio folder and applies the sounds without worries. Thanks for sharing!
anyone want or looking for Palm PRE ringtone i got it ill email if anyone wants it
thanks mate
thanx
Thanks for your great job. I appreciated!
Upated with some more tones, and added the T-Mobile "t-jingle" ringtone per request. Let me know if theres any straggling "MACOSX" folders or .DSStore files.
Thanks!
Nice job! Variety is the spice of life...
Thx!!!
Exactly what I was lookin for!!!
Does \Windows\Fonts folder serve any purpose?
Mine is empty and all fonts are located directly under \Windows.
ROM is 3VO's 2.80.
The fonts are in Win Dir, it serves purpose for some programs install to the Win\Font location.
Rule of thumb everything in a ROM is there for a reason if don't know why leave it alone
So even tho Tahoma (or some other font) is already in Windows folder, some new application might need it in \Fonts folder and since it is not there it will add it and Tahoma will be on phone twice?
That sounds like a waste of resources. Doesn't it?
Not to mention the .pngs and .jpgs repeated quite a few times in different folders. The thought of doing some cleaning has come to my mind but then what you said (everything there for a reason) stops me.
"cleaning" is never a good idea....some of those files are invaluable when you need a backup....or have tweaked with something you shouldn't have (found that one out first hand)....if your system is running clean, you know...

For some simple cleaning ClearTemp does the job
hey, foonts folder IS useful for programs like WisBar, u put fonts in there- and then can use them system wide on anything from start menu, to tabs and even soft keys, and of course- system font, plus- its ,uch easier to handle tyhem from there- if u need to look for a font in windows folder- its a pain in an asssss

Ive searched the forums and the web for audiobook players, and not had much luck. Ive recently found someone who has written something for a pocketpc, but only posted the source code.
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/audio-video/abcPlayer.aspx
If anyone else is interested in a player, and has the ability to compile the source code (i believe you need VS2008), and can produce a cab file that will work on a LEO, I would be most grateful.
It may be quite a useful app for others that want an audiobook player, and I believe the author has allowed the use of it for further development.
The zip file on that page already contains the compiled executable. Look under bin\release. Just copy all the files (dlls, exe, skins, etc.) to your device and run it, you don't need a CAB.

Thanks!! I'll give it a try. I've been using S2P until now but it is less than perfect for audiobooks. Hopefully, this will be better as it is specifically designed for this purpose.
Motisu, did u have any luck running it? I managed to run it, but it doesnt display any of the icons. Just block graphics, without skins. It must see the skin directory, otherwise it complains the directory is missing, but doesnt use it.

Yes, I've been using it exclusively for my audiobooks ever since I DL'ed it. The only complaint that I have with it is that in order to rew/ff within the file, I have to bring up a different page and then go back to the play page. In S2P, I just have to tap the screen to bring up the position bar. Other than that, it is really a great app.
BTW,to answer your question, yes I do have the Icons but the text is a bit oversized. I am running this on a TP2 with a WVGA screen and a larger than regular text so the font is a bit too large
I use CorePlayer. It works fine for me and always has.
have a lot of text files i use. i have problem viewing them if file is larger than 9KB.
any content of the file that is beyond 9KB is not seen in text editor. some editors that have autosave even reduces the file once it's open an closed..
is this a bug or what? is there any program that can handle this?
i tried this with lots of text editors and on different phones.
p.s. Thinkfree office can handle this files, BUT program is quite slow and file can't be saved in txt format afaik
anybody??
please, i need reading and editing "large" text files and NO GO with text editors
Aha! A potential customer.... ;P I was experiencing the same problem, so I wrote an app to solve it and just uploaded it onto the market today. It deals with large text files just like your thread wants.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898083
Let me know if you have any questions about my app.
Ummmm, just a warning, my app is sometimes slow on startup, I think its due to the file write when it first creates some log files for tracking progress. Even so, it only takes around 4 secs to open a 10MB txt file.
oh, so there is this silly size limitation for text files.. :\ big thnx for this. i thought i was the only one with that problem.
will try your app.
again, thnx for solving this mistery
Android has this max size limiting the textboxes, I could in theory set it to
android:maxLength="99999999" or so, but even if the phone has that much memory, it can be pretty slow loading even 1-2 MBs of text. So I went with the file chunking approach, which bottlenecks in file write operations, but is still acceptably fast to me and is overall more specs friendly.
hmm, installed your app, but still same problem. can see few more lines than in other text editors, but that's it, only few more, not whole file.. do i need to set anything??
file i was testing is 15KB size..
other comments on program: it's fast, smooth scrolling, with just the right amount of options,.. looks great
It works by loading only a small chunk of the file at a time. To see the subsequent chunks, either:
1) Do a short horizontal swipe to the left which will load the next chunk.
2) Use the GoTo in the menu.
3) Scroll to the bottom, then briefly tap the bottom of the screen. But (3) only works during View mode since it will interfere with the cursor placement.
TO load the previous chunk, just 1,2, or 3 in reverse
You can try experimenting with MB-scale files too. So long as your internal SD has the space to support it, there should be no problems.
BTW: the screwy cursor placement when the original blinking cursor location is a few pages away is due to some inherent bug of the EditText class. I dunno how to fix it actually, but luckily it's not too complicated to overcome on the user's side; just type something after tapping at the place you want your cursor to be shifted, and the page will scroll back to where you originally tapped your finger.
after some testing, i can say this is a great program !!
only 2 things if i may:
-sliding between chunks is hard to achieve(sliding doesn't work well)
-there are temp files left in .NeedToWrite folder on internal SD card.. which is not good if there are stored some passwords
Glad you liked it!
Yup, Sliding is tricky, because the in-built vertical scrolling tends to interfere when there is a slight vertical slant in your horizontal swipe. So I made the horizontal swipe very sensitive to compensate. To take advantage of this, try doing a tiny horizontal swipe rather than a long one. It is much easier to make a tiny swipe be horizontal enough than a long swipe.
As for the tmp files, I wasn't aware tmp files got orphaned! Hmmm.... do tmp files still get orphaned after you've installed v1.31? Pls do install it if you haven't yet.
Update: Just found out that the orphaned tmp files probably occurred if you open mnt/sdcard/[folder/example.txt] and sdcard/folder/[example.txt]. The difference is the mnt/ folder. Although they have different paths, they are still the same file, but NTW creates the backup folder hierachy based on the file paths, so.
Anyway, I've come up with v1.32 which will place the tmp files on the same folder as the original file. Although this makes your folder more cluttered, but the benefit is reduction in "Force Close" errors due to the length of the backup file paths in .NeedToWrite exceeding the file path limit. And no more duplicate backup files created due to opening the same file from mnt/sdcard/example.txt vs sdcard/example.txt. And also much easier for user to maintain personally.
However, one user aptly pointed out that the extra clutter is really not welcomed and would also mean extra copying time when copying the whole folder over to the PC. So v1.33 will again return to the old system of placing all backups in .NeedToWrite/tmp
The title kinda sums it up. I'm looking for an app (not necessarily for android) that will compare 2 archives, say apk files, and show the files that are "different".
My ideal use would be to compare modified apk's, e.g. a stock apk and a modded, to show which files, in compiled state obviously, have been modified, added, or removed.. just to facilitate learning. Another use case: I have a ton of apks I've modded and it would be helpful to scan them, and return a report saying, "these 2 apks are identical except for those 2 pngs in the blabla folder."
Anyone feelin me here? Or does anyone use a different method? (Besides just being really organized)
this is all i can find if you find anything better please let me know

There is a midnight commander port to android. I'm not sure if it supports archives or not but it sounds like it'd be exactly what you need if it does.

If they are yours
Well this is how i do it.
I decompile first apk using Apk tool
Open project folder and copy the nameofapkhere.apk folder and paste into folder call it say version 1.
decompile second apk using Apk tool
Open project folder and copy the nameofapkhere.apk folder and paste into folder call it say version 2.
Open FolderMatch available here -> http://www.foldermatch.com/fmwindiff1.htm
setup all dependencies and then run the and it can even do md5 check, and line by line check.
Use filter of as many kind as you like date time, size, etc what ever
I have notepad++ installed with some add ons, and you can open the simali from within the folder compare and they display as seperate tabs within the same notepad ++ application. You can then run a line by line compare of the simali code with the compare add-on.
Back in FolderMatch you can synch certain files or even parts of files or you can cut n paste code of your choice to your second apk.
You can repackage again then afterwards....but we are saying that you're comparing two of your own apks
If your comparing R...zip files then side by side visually within 7zip you can se date stamps alone and usually the file system type i.e. FAT and so on.
James
Thanks James! I really like this for comparing, for example, the new Google voice update with the previous ver , both for theming and to get a real change log.
I'll check that out.
