double tap to wake - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is anyone aware of a double tap to wake app that works on the pixel c?

It won't work, Cheep tried to get it to work for a while with mediocre success IIRC

ok, thanks for the information.

Google left it out because it was too much drain on battery concern.

I already tried this but i wasnt able to make it work. I am on miui v6 and so might be a kernel issue.
Anyways, which kernel do you use to make it work?

I was on stock kernel with supersu.
The program loaded a modded version of the stock.
I needed to restart a couple of times before it would do what I wanted to do. not everything in the program does work, however single touch and double touch wake up works.
Since I'm mounting the thing on the wall I went for single touch
M-kernel has this feature, try.

The latest version of the kernel doesn't have the feature though.

That is for the Nexus 7 2013 (flo/deb) not for the Nexus 7 2012 (grouper/tilapia)., although it is true that I had the exact implementation (code copied) in my kernel a while back. We let go of that mainly because it didn't work as well as we wanted it to without a wakelock being held (M-Kernel implemented this first and I copied it later; tells you a lot about me huh? ) I'll work on this in the near future, but no promises are being made.

Google Assistant - fingerprint

Is there a way to activate Google Assistant via holding the fingerprint reader?
I don't think so...but i know while the phone is off you can say "OK, Google" to launch assistant.
Long pressing the home button activates it as well...
OK Google on screen off only works if you don't have a lock screen password though (which makes sense).

I'm sure this can be done over time here at XDA. I'm more interested in seeing page scrolling with fingerprint reader.

I would have assumed it would just answer your questions without unlocking the phone fully.

Google Assistant doesn't work with Bluetooth headsets?

Just noticed that Assistant doesn't work with any of my Bluetooth headsets that I used on the Pixel 1.
Is this a new change with Assistant forcing you to buy a compatible headset?
I would usually use a command to call a contact but it seems like it doesn't hear my voice command.
If I disconnect my Bluetooth headset, Google Assistant would be able to register my voice.
Yes I noticed that the day I got the phone, hopped into my car, sync'd bluetooth and then tried to perform a voice command. Google Assistant never heard me. I had to turn off "Bluetooth Headset" Under google voice typing.
Not sure why this is a problem but I am sure someone else out there knows why.

More on the issue here. My latest post kind of explains what I figure is the problem.

It's under "Hands-free". Also, the Bluetooth recording doesn't seem to be working though. A lot of people have needed to actually turn off that setting because the audio doesn't appear to be sent from the Bluetooth device to the phone. With the option off it will capture from the phone mics however.

It is under "Hands-Free". The previous poster said that even with that option enabled there are still issues. I guess it depends on your headset. My Jaybird X3 sport seem to work fine.
My issue has been that with the bluetooth in my car, sometimes the microphone works, and sometimes it doesn't. There seems to be absolutely no reason as to why it will work one minute, then not the next. I'm just trying to deal with it, seems to be software related and should hopefully be fixed in due time.

But are you sure it's picking up from your headset or are you close enough to your phone that the phone is picking your voice up instead?

I use the Jaybird freedom 2 and it works only on the first sentence I speak after pressing the button on the earphone. Pressing the button the second time, while google assistant is still on screen, does not work. From the speaker animation at the bottom, it seems it is not listening. I have to close google assistant and re-launch the app to make it listen again.

Where did you find the November update? Neither the OTA nor the images are on Google's site.

Thanks for reminding me it's not listed yet. I was about to wipe my phone but would have sucked if i wiped and it took forever for the OTA to come down. I'll wait for it to show up on the Dev page.

[TA-1043] Strange behavior trying to pull down status bar

While the phone is lying on a table or on bed, if you try pulling down the status bar, using just one finger without touching the sides of the phone, it just won't pull down, it would like block the touch for that even though it'd register touches for usual taps and swipes.
Even stranger behavior is while it won't be pulling down while it's lying on the table and the sides of the phone are not being touched, if you even slightly touch the side of the phone and then swipe down status bar, it'd work perfectly. That's one of the strangest things I've seen in a phone.
There's no issues while holding and using the phone btw.
Please answer back if you're facing the same issue or try replicating what I said with your device and report the behavior below, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Can you make a video? If I understand your post right, it works fine on my device.
Not able to make a video atm as no other device is with me. Would love for other people to reply as well as I'm pretty sure it can't be my particular device's defect.
I've found people reporting very similar things for surface pro on this thread here if you wanna understand what I'm saying better

Here's a video from someone in the Nokia forums acknowledging the issue I reported and made a video.

I tried it again few times, and it works fine for me.

Try turn off gestures?
Setting > System > Gestures > Swipe fingerprint for notifications.
I have not seen this, but you can set the fingerprint reader as a tiny touchpad which can be used to bring down the status bar.

Tap to Wake and Lift to Check Phone not working.

Just recently got a Pixel 2 XL and neither of these features are working. I've turned them off and back on with no luck. I read a few threads that were older about proximity sensor issues. Any ideas?

You can test the proximity sensor by installing the Sensor test app and you will see, if it's working.
Another simple way to test it is that you place a call, put the phone to your ear (screen should turn off) and remove it (screen should turn on again).
I had to RMA'd it because of this issue, which btw does not happen on all devices after updating to 8.1.
With new device I never had this issue again.
I had this problem after Google's "accidental experiment/phone takeover" last week, and even after they corrected it, I had to clear 'Google Play Services' cache before it worked properly.
