[HOW TO] Fix ODIN fail while updating to 6.0.1 MM - Galaxy S6 Edge+ General

I had a hard time updating my 928F to 6.0.1 via odin,
everytime i start flashig i get fail message from odin and my phone get stuck on dowloading screen,
But after a few tries, watching couple of "how to videos" and a little bit of luck i managed to pull it out.
So lets get started:-
Prerequisites:
1. Stock 6.0.1 firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
2. 7zip from http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
3. Last version of ODIN from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
4. TWRP (I mean compatible)
1. First, for best result you need to do a clean flash by doing advanced wipe from TWRP (Dalvik / ART Cache - Cache - Data - Internal storage - System).
2. Unzip the firmware you dowloaded and you should get xxxxxxxx.Tar.md5

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
3. Rename to xxxxxxxx.tar
4. Unzip it again and you should get that:
5. Rename "Hidden.img" to "Hidden.img.tar
6. Make a new folder and move what you get from last unzip EXCEPT "Hidden.img.tar".
7. Using 7zip,
8. After 7zip finish up, load the new compressed file in ODIN "AP" or "PDA" section.
9. Boot your phone into Dowloading mode and connect it to your PC.
10. Press start on ODIN.
11. Now after ODIN finish flashing and before your phone is rebooting, Enter Dowloading mode again and flash "Hidden.img.tar"
12. Now your phone should start up and install new update in stock recovery.
13. If you got stuck in bootloop, boot in stock recovery an perform a factory reset and wipe cache.
CONGRATULATIONS
--Sorry for my bad english--
IF this helped you by anyway please press thanks.

Thanks a lot
Can I use your steps
If my phone blocked to one operateur??

[Q] Problems with CWM

Hi, hopefully somebody can help me. I have rooted my Note 2 and installed CWM via ROM Manager. I have always done it this way with other phones, but this time when I reboot into recovery I have options missing - such as backup and restore. I am also unable to scroll down past any item that is visible.
I have flashed a different version of CWM via Mobile Odin but the problem remains. I have also attempted to install TWRP via Goomanager and Mobile Odin but whenever I reboot into Recovery I go straight to CWM with nothng having changed.
I'd be really grateful if someone can tell me where I'm going wrong. I don't want to flash any other ROM until I can backup my stock.
Thanks for any help!
Download CWM recovery tar (like philz or any other you want) and flash with PC odin for PDA tab

Thank you for replying. I have just done this yet still when I reboot into recovery I'm getting the same problem and there has been no change.
Should I be doing a wipe as well? Or is there something else wrong?
Flashing was successful?
There is no changes in menu of recovery? like you can read philz or something?
what is available menu in recovery?

No change.
Odin said flashing was successful. Recovery looks like this:
Android system recovery <3e>
Volume up/down to move highlight:
power button to select:
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Applied the CSC-code : BTU
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
- and then nothing. this is as far as I can get no matter how or what I seem to flash other recovery.
Thanks again for any help.
This is stock recovery, not CWM
It means odin was not successfull
Can you describe the odin log?
here i repeat procedure
-Download said recovery (http://www.mediafire.com/file/imbzaau34u7ldeg/philz_touch_3.99-n7100-fixed.tar.md5)
-Open Odin and select PDA tab, then point to recovery (above said)
-Put device in download mode (vol down + home +power), then it will ask to press vol up to enter into recovery, do that
-connect device to PC and wait till ID COM port glows
-Flash
Let device boot normally
-Reboot to recovery and check, if it is same then post Odin log here
Thats exactly the process I've been following. Here is a screenshot of Odin following flash:

[Q] please help a noob, problem note 2!

Hi everyone,
I'm writing you hopping for a clue and some good pointed advices.
My story:
note 2 N7100 rooted started to block. I manage to backup more than 3k sms and around 8 gb of data.
and it works just fine, but I still had a itchy to change the ROM.
I started to read, it was my first time flashing an android, in the past I used to flash with success many time my wm6.5 HTC.
Ok, i'm ready.
i founded some beautiful roms and I was excited to see them on my note.
what did I done?
first I've copy the new rom on sd card.
I follow all the steps for CWM.
the problem was that I followed all the steps till instal. I didn't seen On my sd card the rom that i've copied.
I was not 5 minutes cleaver to pull out the sd card, but I've stopped the phone.
Yes, everything was erased.
The only thing I could get was the starting logo with note 2 ( white letter on black background) nothing more.
I've tried with odin1.85, odin3. every time same result...fail.
I can go in Odin Mode and I can get this message :firmware upgrade encountered an issue.Please select recovery mode in Kies& try again.
I've tried in Kies but no luck
As far as I can understand my phone is empty..
Question is what should I do?
Please don't tell me I can throw it away!!!
PLEASE HELP!
Please if you will respond on this thread make it like for a noob!
Thank you in advance
what Rom u was installing ?
i think u should use Odin 3.07
http://samsung-updates.com/Odin307.zip
find latest stock Rom for ur N2 ( N7100 or N7105 ) here : http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
download it and unzip it then open odin and put it in PDA and wait a bit it will check MD5 then it will work then put ur note in download mode ( home + vol down + power ) and connect ur note2 ( odin should give u blue color on ID com )
and make sure Kies is totally closed then hit start and wait
like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

if the device stuck at boot screen just go the recovery and do full wipe ( it will wipe ur internal memory too )
good luck :angel:

thank you for your feedback.
I've downloaded the latest version for N7100 from the site you mentioned.
the truth is I've used Odin 3.04 and have no luck.
I've followed every step you mentioned.
I'll try with Odin 3.07.
I can't go to recovery I don't have this option or I don't know how to access it.
When I press those 3 buttons the phone goes into download mode.
How can I access recovery?
Thank you Yahyoh
to go to recovery use home + vol up + power

I've done that and I get the death message ( i've read about this death message, I want to hope that is just an over reacting saying)
"firmware upgrade encountered an issue.Please select recovery mode in Kies& try again"
in my opinion, if I'm allowed to have one, I think I deleted everything on my phone. even the bootloader and so on.
Is just empty
which are the steps to follow in order to have a working phone?
thanks Yahyoh for your attitude and patience.
Remove battery for 5min
Press Vol down +home+power
It should reboot to download mode
Instead of download mode still you getting msg 'encountered error...' consider that screen as download mode and flash rom with odin.
Version of odin doesn't matter.

Question: I assume Delta is an update.
How do you update the phone?
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
In setting > About > CM Updates
You will get notified if there is anew update
However the updater app download something called delta update
Those deltas are small in size and help you to install the update faster because its smaller in size
However you must not change anything in system partition because it checks if the Apps are their or not ( to avoid problem because it patches the new updated thing and doesn't have every single APK )
So if you modified system you can"t use deltas
But you can download the full zip and flash it without any problem

Q: How do I transfer my contacts?
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Like xposed framework, deleting system apps , editing build.prop
To transfer contacts you should have uploaded them to Google account and the system will sync them with your mobile whenever you login to your Google account
If you didn't do that you will need to re-add them to contact app
But this time choose Google account not local phone account

OTA with unlocked bootloader

hi everyone, i have an E6833 running on 32.4.A.0.160
i received my phone today it was at maintenance service, so i came back and installed twrp on it (no root)
after restarting i got an update message 32.4.A.1.54 from system
the quistion is: can i install this update with an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed?
if no can i uninstall the twrp and install the update?+(how?)
if no again, what should i do?
thx
your best bet is to make a full backup.
Move the backup to your pc.
Download the update using Flashtool 0.9.23.2
install firmware after downloading ( exclude all .TA files in the lower window)
If you are going from stock rom to this update its possible to flash without wiping user data to keep your apps / data intact.
Fast boot a Recovery like TWRP
then reboot to recovery and flash a custom kernel. like PDesires YandereCore.
reboot and enjoy.
This is basically what I did for the current update on my E6853
Hit thanks if I've helped you.

its possible flash tool is not set to look in the correct folder.
Make sure you select Flash (not fastboot)
then make sure the location is C:\Users\*your profile name*\.flashTool\firmwares
after Flashtool downloads a firmware it auto extracts the firmware files.
so you only need to select the device (after its been set to Flash mode (Flash tool will direct you)
use the arrows next device tree, and go to the bottom arrow til you get your firmware.
I've made note of the Exclude TA files to tick all of these. to remove the TA files from your flash.
Make sure too. that you are using a USB 2 port. USB 3 ports have been giving errors with the current drivers on some systems

Flash protocol/files because of bootloop : soft brick :(

What I've got:
T800 (wifi) updated by mfg. NOT rooted, all is stock (new in 2015 and I've never messed with the OS) and last version was marshmallow 6.0.1 (def marshmallow but version is strictly from memory).
Problem:
Couple of days ago, tab went into endless boot. It would show the android screen then samsung screen then it would load and all looked ok. This would last for maybe 30 seconds then rebooted into the android screen then samsung screen etc. : endless loop.
What I did:
Did some research and booted into recovery mode. Only cleared the cache then rebooted/or shutdown several times. Same looping. Tried cache clear 3-4x with no success. Once I got into the desktop, it lasted ~30 seconds and then booted me out again.
Alright, I bit the bullet and did a factory reset. Well, now it only gives me the android screen and then the samsung screen. Then cycles over again. I cannot get to the desktop anymore, at all.
Found a thread regarding looping but then the threads about upgrading to nougat by @Schischu --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/rom-android-7-nougat-t3449078 then part 2 https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/rom-t3498956 and then another one by someone else in regards to upgrading past 7.0 (which I'm not ready to do).

I've got a few questions as I am a TOTAL newb at this.
1)I've got the following files:
a) aosp_chagallwifi-userdebug-20161116.zip
b) open_gapps-arm-7.0-nano-20191002.zip
c) SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214-TEST-1.zip
d)twrp_3.0.3-1_sm-t800_10217.tar
Are these the correct files? Do I need any more?
2)when I start the process, do I need to put the ZIP file on an SD card then insert that in the tab?
OR do I unzip the file and put that on the SD card?
OR can I just leave them in a folder (on PC desktop) and access them from there?
3)do I put ALL those files at the same time on the SD card or are they accessed one at a time?
Because I can get the android/samsung splash screen I assume I've still got the correct (ie 6.0) bootloader in place. Correct?
If thats true, then again (q.1): am I ready to start the process?
I figure I should do this to get nougat rather than going through the same procedure to just re-load marshmallow.
Any thing else I should know or have missed?
First some pessimism: when a factory reset doesn't work, it's very likely to be a hardware problem.
But let's assume flashing a new rom can do the trick.
I haven't played around with this tablet, or even another Samsung device, so I'm no expert either, but I think I can guide you a bit.
You'll have to start by installing a custom recovery like TWRP. The one you've found is very old, I would assume that you can find a newer one.
People talk about using a PC program called Odin for flashing recovery, maybe you can search for that. Or read here:
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/chagallwifi/install
where they use an equivalent program called Heimdall.
Thanks for the info and link.
Started to look at odin but not having any experience or sure of the files needed, I thought I'd wait and see who might respond.
Interesting times. Was able to find the correct file for odin to use. Appears to be successful but I don't know.
This screen shot is what I got after trying to install gapps.zip
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
It says chagall BUT that was b4 I was successful with odin. The error message is the same for Gapps flash. Also, same
error message for SUPERSU
The previously posted instruction said to reboot to recovery. I can only do that if I power down then back to recovery. I do have
an option "reboot to bootloader". Is that the same??
I should mention that I tried the AOSP file (first post) and odin wouldn't accept it. Per instructions I found for odin, the file should end .tar.md5 which I did find
T800XXU1CPK2.tar.md5
Both gave me the same error message though.
+++++++++++++++
I can't install twrp on the tab as its not accepting input so I'm installing android studio on my PC and trying that way.
Well, it must be something else. Although I couldnt load the nougat version with odin, I successfully loaded marshmallow ("PASS" in odin).
https://samfrew.com/download/Galaxy__Tab__S__10.5__-WiFi-__/3klk/XAC/T800XXS1CRI5/T800XAC1CRI5/
BUT I still have the endless boot loop. Plugging in the power cord shuts it off/puts into charging mode.
Do you think it's still a hardware issue?
If you've got an SD card installed, try removing that.
But really, you've reached the end of my knowledge, so let's hope someone else chips in.
