6.20.502.5 ATT Firmware - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Has anyone extracted the the firmware from the RUU? I did a quick search and just saw one with the HBOOT. Also has anyone installed the HTC RUU? Is it any good?
Thanks in advance.

Of course wnc and ckpv5 would be involved!
Guess I should have looked a little harder than searching by the numbers!
Many thanks!

If anyone is looking for an already modified version of the 6.20.502.5 firmware. I removed the boot.img and the recovery.img file and replaced the hboot file with one that has no red text. This firmware works fine on the AT&T and Developer's Edition models.
Download here.

Hey everyone in this post,
Please check to make sure that you are receiving voice calls. I just discovered that I can make outgoing calls just fine however ALL incoming calls are going directly to voicemail. I'm going to do a little more research but it looks as though I'll need to revert to an earlier firmware. I'm guessing this has something to do with HD Voice.
A couple more things of note: I'm on the latest version of ARHD which is 53.1 (MM); texts work fine both ways; data is fine; voicemail functions fine. Just to give a little background.

I'm having the same problem. I fiddled with the APN settings and it seemed (I'll try again) to fix that issue. Meaning I manually entered the APN settings and I was able to receive calls. A bit ridiculous.
Edit: It's not the APN Settings that helped. It's actually switching the preferred network from LTE to 3G or maybe even 2G. Haven't checked it on 2G.

I finally got mine working but I have no idea what the magical combination ended up being. I did downgrade to a previous 6.12 firmware but that alone didn't do the trick. I also manually added a new APN in addition to many other things one by one. I was actually on an outgoing call and my line beeped because I had a call waiting! I was so shocked (and pleased) that I hung on the person I was speaking with and answered the call. From then on it has worked fine. Having said that I'm going to sit tight with the phone the way it is until someone much smarter than me lays out a solid plan.
I'm glad you got beyond your problem as well :good:

Are you still able to receive phone calls while on 4G? Any further issues? I asked because ever since upgrading to LP firmware I no longer can receive incoming phone calls while on 4G but I can make calls. I have noticed that while on a call on 4G I can receive calls which is strange. So I have to stay on 3G to receive all incoming calls. Any ideas on a fix? Thanks

Your situation does sound similar to mine. Whatever combination of zany things that happened for me as forced my network into HSPA+ whereas it used to read LTE. I'm not referring to the icon in the status bar (that still reads 4G). If I go into Settings>About>Network>Cellular network type. That's where I see HSPA+, HSPA or HSPAP depending on where I am. My speeds are WAY slower but it's still functional, yet there's something obviously still broken. Since I can receive calls now I've decided to just "live with it" until I come across a proper solution that I know will work. If that day should ever come though, I'll be sure to post back here.
Update:
I am back to my "Cellular network type" displaying "LTE" and my download speeds also confirm this. Below are the additional steps I took to get to this point:
1. In the phone dialer enter *#*#4636#*#* (takes you to a "Phone info" screen)
2. Scroll down to "Set preferred network type" (take note of its current selection in case you need to go back)
3. Using the dropdown, select GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto
That's it. After a few seconds my data icon refreshed and I knew I was good to go. For good measure I went back to Settings>About>Network to verify my Cellular network type. Good luck.

AT&T's deployment of Voice over LTE (which they've branded "HD Voice") does not play well with international-based custom ROMs (basically, most any ROM that is not ATT based). Issues with voice calls is the common symptom.
Best workaround is to call AT&T and ask them to turn off HD Voice for your account (may need to ask for 2nd Tier tech support before you get someone who knows what you are talking about). Yes, you can turn off LTE, but that is obviously not a great option.
Other fixes (APN, firmware) are likely placebo effect at best. Went down a similar path trying to troubleshoot this problem for folks a year ago, before coming to the conclusion (Post #9): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/incoming-calls-lte-mode-m8-att-arhd-34-0-t3026710

[Q] Phone On Wifi Only Internationally?

Hey guys,
So I know that this question was already posted up for other phones, and other countries, but I just wanna BE SURE in this particular case as well...
I left California, and am in South Korea right now, and was wondering if I would get roaming charges for using my Epic 4G? What if I turn OFF the data roaming, and or set it to Sprint only? Can I use wifi without fear insane billing later?
Sorry again to have to ask a second time like this, but I just wanna be sure -- someone else who was with Verizon said her network costs $100/day to roam, and I don't make that kinda money.
Turn off data completely and then turn on WiFi. I do it in Jamaica all the time. U could also do airplane mode and then turn WiFi on. 6 of one.
Sent from my Epic on Midnight or my Galaxy Tab rooted (feels naked without a ROM)
Yeah, just turn on airplane mode then turn on wifi.
FYI, you can set it up so you can receive and make wifi calls for free (at least to the USA) using your Sprint number. If you want instructions, let me know.
Yes please! Would using that method enable me to make calls to USA numbers, or only numbers that happen to actually BE currently located in the USA?
Thanks for the help and putting up with me!

You would be able to make (free) calls to any US/Canada number, no matter where they are. And low-cost international calls (you will need credit in your Google Voice account). People receiving your calls would see your Sprint number on the caller id, and people calling your Sprint number would be able to reach you no matter where in the world you are (so long as you have a wifi connection.
OK. Here is what you do.
1) Sign up for a Google Voice account if you don't have one already. I'm guessing you will be able to do that from Korea, if not, use a US proxy server or something.
2) Tell it that you want your Sprint number to be your Google Voice number. You don't have to do this step if you don't want to, but if you don't, people will have to call your separate Google Voice number and that is the number that will be displayed on the caller IDs of people who you are calling.
3) Go to Options>Voice settings (button is at the very top right hand corner). Under forwarded phones, you should see Google chat as an option. Check it. You should see your Sprint/GV number as an option and it should be checked by default. I don't think it matters too much whether you leave it like that since your cell antennas should be off but if you uncheck it make sure to check it when you go back to the states otherwise you will not be able to receive calls with your Sprint service.
4) Download Siprdoid. The first time you open it up, it should give you the option to create a new account with your GV account. Go ahead and do that. Then press menu on your phone, and settings, then "SIP Account" (that should be the very first thing on the menu). Make sure that the "Use WLAN" setting is checked.
5) If you also want to make calls to international numbers, add some money to the GV account via their website. The rates for South Korean numbers are $.02/min and $.05/min for landlines and mobile lines, respectively.
6) When you get back to the states, either make sure Siproid isn't running or uncheck forwarding to Google chat. Otherwise you'll end up having your phone getting two calls at the same time!
That should be all! I haven't had a chance to test this out outside of the country. But I have turned off everything except wifi and tried and it works perfectly. I am confident it will work the same in Korea because it all works over the Internet. I hope I made these instructions clear enough. If not feel free to ask me to clarify.
ETA: I would also install the GV app on your phone as the Sprint voicemail app will longer receive voicemail. At least I think it won't. I deleted it a long time ago.

That won't work... you can't enable wireless in airplane mode, at least on every 2.2 rom I've used. Samsungs fault, so unless you are running cm7 don't think you can do that.
You can however completely disable the cell radio from the info menu.
1) Open the dialer enter: *#info*1111#
2) phone info (top option) - scroll to the bottom.
3) click disable radio button
Do this after every phone reboot, the radio will re-enable itself at boot.
This will turn the cell radio off but allow you to use wifi. If you leave the radio on its going to waste tons of battery searching for a sprint signal it will never find with 100% time without signal.

HELP: Cannot send SMS, but MMS, phone calls and data is working

Anyone know what may be up with this? When i try to send an SMS it just sits there attempting to send but ends up saying it has failed. no details on why.
Using data on 2g/3g is fine. I have wiped phone and installed new ROMs twice but the deal is the same.... I can still make/receive phone calls, can send/receive MMS, browser on wifi and 2g/3g is good, just no sms. phone status says i'm connected, phone network settings on *#*#4636#*#* says everything is fine, and I have even switched between AUS and AUS2 bands (i am in australia) but to no avail.
Please help!

Maybe your simcard has lost the smsc number? I don't remember how to edit it on the nexus though.
When did you first encounter this problem?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I first encountered this around the same time i first flashed revolutionHD, but doubt its directly related. I'll look around for the SMSC I need. Will update
experienced something similar at activation. are you porting your number?
ok you were right, my SMSC disappeared. annoyingly i couldn't put it directly into the phone, as it is complaining that there is an update error, but thankfully i use GoSMS and can tell it to use a custom SMSC and so that works.
As for activation, n i wasn't porting my number, this isn't even a new contract, my boss from my old job bought the phone for me outright as a christmas pressie so it is a direct swap.

C'mon guys pop that SIM card in there and share the experience!!!!!!!!!!
I would like no know this too as I just got the 4G LTE and text messaging works flawlessly, except phone calls as it gives me busy signal on all calls that are made. Don't know what's wrong. The sim card is activated and everything works as it should. Except phone calls..

There's really not a lot to talk about. The SM-P601/5 are just giant phones. Anything a N3 can do, they can do. Dialers and MMS/SMS are pretty much the same on every phone and the SM-P601/5 are no exception.
Here's a screen shot...
P.S. - In order to use the voice and messaging features the SM-P601/5 have to be provisioned by your carrier as "phones." Tablet-specific data plans don't support calls or MMS even though the device is capable.
I was waiting for a response and didn't get anyone to chime in so I finally got my note 10.1 p605 so here goes yes you need to get a sim with voice and data plan it will work. I'm currently using it as my phone at the moment and it rocks!
I have the SM-P605 4G LTE and I couldn't figure out how to make phone calls on this device. Can you help?

Is your SM-P605 from a carrier or Samsung? The U.S. carriers and possibly some others disable voice and MMS and always have in the tablets they offer. If you don't see the Dialer and Messaging apps when you look in the app drawer I'm guessing they've been disabled in whatever version of SM-P605 you have. If you see them and can't use them that means the SIM you're using probably doesn't support voice and MMS. They're either there out-of-the-box or they aren't. If they aren't there's not a lot you can do about it.
BarryH,
I got mine from the Verizon store. I downloaded a Dialer app from Google Play and tried to make a call, but still no go. The app brought up a Dialer, but when I punch in a telephone number, and press Send, it just beeps and does nothing. The Sim card was from my 4G LTE phone. I swapped it over.
I was, however, able to make calls using Google Voice & Groove IP. But man, I would just love to be able to make calls just like a phone.

M8 does not receive calls on 4G, works when I switch it to 3G.

I have a HTC One M8, AT&T, TWRP recovery, flashed and rooted with ICE 8.2.2; SuperSu.
When I am connected to 4G/LTE and someone calls me, it rings on their end but my phone does nothing. I checked my IMEI and see LTE is supported. When I switch my mobile network from 2G/3G/4G (auto) to 2G/3G (auto), it connects (H, H+ icon) and my phone receives incoming phone calls. My SIM card does not mention "4G" or "LTE". I have yet to try the SIM in another phone yet but plan to tonight.
Just to help me out with my thought process on figuring out the issue I'm going to think out loud for a second:
Put my SIM in another phone and make sure 4G/LTE is on, check if it receives calls. If it works, the issue is my phone or ROM. If it doesn't work, SIM card is the issue.
Also, from what I understand, phones on 4G switch to 3G when a call comes in and my phone may not be doing that. Is there a fix for this?
EDIT: As additional info, I am able to make outgoing calls without issue on 4G.
Are you actually using AT&T as your cell provider?
Yes, and I made sure my APN settings are correct.
It's a known issue. AT&T's implementation of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) which they call "HD Voice" for some reason interferes with voice calls on custom ROMs on this device.
No real fix, aside from calling AT&T and asking them to turn off the HD Voice feature of your account. May need to ask for a 2nd Tier tech support to do it. Others here have posted they had to do that (and 1st Tier either had not clue what they were talking about, or wrongly claimed it can't be turned off).

Awesome. Thank you!
EDIT: Just finished working through the issue with an AT&T rep through online chat. Had me turn off my phone, disabled it on their end, and turned it back on. Did a test call and sure enough 4g switches to 3g as the call comes in and switches back afterwards. Problem Solved!

Occasionally unable to receive or make calls on XZ2c

Hi!
I am occasionally unable to receive or make calls on my XZ2c. Specifically, sometimes (say, every few days) people report to me I cannot be contacted although I am in a place where I have good reception. And, in such cases, if I try to make a phone call myself, I cannot. Even more specifically, the caller in these cases hears no ringing and no typical carrier voice message that my phone is off or that I cannot be contacted for the moment; while, when I try to call, nothing happens for a few seconds and then the phone app stops stops trying.
A restart always solves the problem.
Also, it may be the case - but I am not sure - that this happens after the phone has briefly lost reception (for example, in my office, because I exit the elevator, or in my home, as I have a blind spot in the courtyard). This seems to me to be the case based on a few observations but, again, I am not sure about it.
Otherwise, the phone works impeccably, but since I missed a few crucial calls recently this has started to bug me. (Needless to say, my two mostly retired phones, the XZ1c and the OG Pixel, do not have this problem when used in the same environments.)
Any suggestions, please?
I have the same issue - and reboot suddenly resolves it. I've tried to ask over Sony forums, but no reply yet. It bugs me also, but it would be quite hard to report it to Sony service center, as I cannot reproduce the issue myself. (although I think they are aware of the issue) It's a bit strange that my XZ2C has reception problems where my Z5C used to work...

It would help if you would report what carrier you guys are suffering the problem on and whether volte is enabled and if you have tried more toggle options of which networks to fall back on to make sure you receive calls, there is a way to manually set it to fall back all the way to GPRS 1.5 G manually haha my carrier supports that and i was once deep in the forest and still recieved a 1g call haha. It is not enough coverage on weak signal for 2g or edge calls.
In some cases inside big city where they ONLY have either LTE or WCDMA ON THE NETWORK, then YOU MUST either force it to use LTE only, or wcdma only. That way it does not jump back and forth and miss call. Some big cities i set it to lte only and even in basement or in skyscraper it is always full bars. So it just depends which tower types are in your home area.

It's Telenor Hungary, no VoLTE or other "magic" involved. There was a previous thread, which discussed the same issue. Actually I posted it to talk.sonymobile.com also, but please see the attached screenshot - it shows the actual issue. Telenor Hungary shows up as "emergency calls only", while Telekom HU and Vodafone HU seems to be fine. Sometimes switching airplane mode on/off solves the issue, sometimes it's a reboot which makes me able to make/receive calls again. But forcing 2g/3g/lte does not have an effect for me.

If this is the case, it is the SIM cards identification is not consistent to the network tower. Maybe the carrier has updated sim card version if you ask them. If it is emergency calls only logically its the network not authenticating your account based on sim card. It may be sensitive to the phone hardware. I have heard some people on other phone models hadd to ask carrier to provide even old version of their sim card instead of new ones. Try that.

Thanks, I'll give it a try today and ask them to replace sim card. Hopefully it will solve the other appearance of this issue also: whenever I have full bars and talking (usually late night driving home to parents, in a well-covered area), audio quality degrades in seconds - at least on my side - and other party is not able hear anything I say. After disconnecting - if I'm able to do so, and phone app does not get stuck with "call disconnecting" message - I'm not able to make/receive new calls, as only the outline appears of signal strength bars. After restart everything works perfectly. Strange, isn't it?

Ironically - or maybe not - I am not that far away. I am on Orange Romania. When I search for networks I get essentially the same picture -
Thanks, I will try the SIM trick as well, maybe it helps. I may even go as far as jumping carriers, in fact.

Got my sim card replaced, now waiting for the issue to pop up again. (or hopefully not) Actually the guy at carrier said my "white" simcard (about a year old) was a problematic one, replaced it with a new. I don't know if this could be true, but hopefully it'll solve the problem.

It seems that replacing the sim card solved the issue, thanks for the hint! I would have never ever thought that a sim card issue may cause such a problem.
I have exactly the same issue and have already a new sim, which doesn´t do the trick for me....any other ideas how to solve this?
no VoLTE or anything like that. T-mobile as carrier

No longer have this problem with recent firmwares. The sim change did not solve the problem for me.

Thank you for the feedback.
With the recent firmware you mean 52.0.A.8.50 on android9? Do you use stock rom or a custom rom?

No, it's the past 4 or 5 firmwares.

What an irony! After updating to the latest fw some 2-3 days ago, it's happened again, the first time in some 4 months.
Nooo... I just got my replacement phone today and so i installed all the latest firmwares.... I still have high hopes i won't be affected again.
Has anyone any idea how many phones are affected this way... Can't be all of them otherwise there would have been a flood of threads about that.
Maybe some prior models of this series...

Did you test different firmware regions?
Maybe your mobile network provider and the baseband aren't compatible (bug).
And did you report Sony that the bug is in the newest firmware?
No i've just used the original settings since i am still in warranty time
But that's why i've asked before if the others were experiencing this issue only with their stock or even with custom roms / fw.

Changing regions doesn't need an unlocked bootloader.

For that, do you mean to change the settings in the play store or which settings are you referring to?

Just use xperifirm and newflasher to apply a different region.
But remove the userdata.sin if you don't want a full wipe.
