I'm not new to windows phone, but the Camera Button is not waking up the device on my new Lumia 900. I double checked and have the exact same settings set up on my HTC Surround, which is working correctly.
Anyone else have this problem or solution?
Thanks,
Mine doesn't do it either. I just assumed it was designed that way.

It should most definitely. How long do you hold down the camera button for?

No, it is not. Microsoft is very pround of the fact that press the camera button can wake up any WP7 phone in any state (other than shutdown) and launch camera app automatically. Try hold the camera button for a few seconds.

this worked for me, i think people are just stoping halfway when they hit the focus click
EDIT: mine only works sometimes
I've tried holding it down for a few seconds, longer than my Surround. I think it's a hardware issue. However, it does work with the lock screen in place. Just not at full sleep.

You got a point. Holding the camera button down does not work for me. Press, release and press again does. I wonder if theres a setting for that
I can also confirm that it does not work every time. I have to unlock and re-lock, shut off for it to work again. Hope this is fixable in a firmware update.

If the phone has been asleep for a while, it does not work. No matter how many times I depress the camera button and no matter how long it's depressed, it does not work.
It only works if the phone has recently gone to sleep and even then I have to hit it twice sometimes. IDGAF really, doesn't matter to me....

Ok tried rebooting, changing camera button settings and it still doesn't work. Plus with others having the same issue I'm pretty sure it's a defect. Just giving up on the issue isn't a solution so I'll contact Nokia (God knows ATT won't help) and get back here with the results.
Keep in mind this was a selling point - "Smoked by Windows"
Guys... try pressing the button all the way in with some force. It should work. Seems they designed it so it will not accidently get turned on by mistake.

Ummmm... I feel like "EPIC FAIL!!!", but that worked . Just wasn't use to that with my Surround.
I figured it out
If you press, release, press, release, then press and hold for 2-3 seconds, the camera will start up from a fully closed state.
Mine works every time. No matter how long its been asleep.

trick with that camera button wake up: push it fast and hard.
from playing with two wp phones i've owned, i think it's because of the difference between focus press (no wake) and shutter press (wake). problem is they are two stages of the same button. the phone tells the user intent apart by measuring the time from passing first stage of button press (focus) to arriving at bottom of the press (shutter). if it's shorter than a particular value, it wakes the phone. that means you have to press it firm enough to get to the bottom of the press, and fast enough to beat that timer.
if you just press it lightly, it either doesn't get to the shutter stage at all, or doesn't get there fast enough.
it's a bit dumb, because you kinda have to slam that button hard. on the other hand, you don't want to accidentally wake the phone.
Quick press seems to work. Hopefully they fix the timing so it's easier. The Samsung Focus timing was good, and worked every time.
Hello to all.
Recently acquired my P605 after selling my iPad 3.
I researched a lot and decided to buy. I love it, but the only thing that is annoying to me is the screen.
Every time I click the button ON / OFF, home button or even with the cover, the screen takes about 2/3 seconds to turn on. I've already done a hard reset, disabled all possible settings (SVoice stand by, unlocking effect the lock removed, etc ...) just missing me reinstall the ROM (MJ9) again.
My friend has the P600 and says that the screen turns on immediately when he clicks the button On/Off or Home button or even when open the cover.
My question is if you think it is defective? Or what should I do more?
Thanks.

I read that doing the following helped some people.
Open my magazine by swiping up from bottom of home screen > hit menu button > Hit settings > deselect open via home button.

I know some people in US had the problem and when the got updatdd to MK1 the wake up lag got better but no idea when everyone else will get this update.
Sent from Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition via Tapatalk.
Finally found the bug.
After trying to disable applications, clean the tablet, disable functions, reinstall the ROM, etc. ...
I found that removing the memory card (SAMSUNG MICROSDHC UHS-1 PLUS 32GB) solves the delay in wake up of the display.
My doubt is what I do, because beyond of the display delay, something must be using more system resources.
Is anyone aware of a fix?
Thank you.
I have no delay, at least after deleting the mp3s i had on the sd while trying out the new tablet. Now it holds only dslr jpegs.
The system media scanner should be the culprit, though it normally should do a full scan only after boot, not after standby. Normally the scanner runs silent, but on my mobile it verboses, it's a two stage affair taking several minutes, with lots of mp3s on the sdcard, and few jpegs. (First stage is searching media, second is scanning media)
Controlling/disabling the scanner requires root. There are apps which bring their own scanner, probably the video and music players of the note, which I disabled.
No issues here.
Using a poetic slimline case with open/close screen on off sensing and a 64gb microSD card, from Samsung.
What format is your SD card? I always use fat32 on larger cards for stability. Might be the issue.

It's interesting, because I had the same issue. My tablet would take 3 seconds to come up after I pressed the power on. While following a battery saver tip, I just unchecked WiFi scanning, and all of a sudden there was no lag. Not sure if it will work for anyone else. FYI: I have a SanDisk 32GB micro sd card installed.
Has anyone else had the home button stop working? It has happened to me twice and a reboot restores it. I'm running the stock US Unlocked but rooted RUU.

I've got the same problem. It worked after a reboot when I first got the phone. I put it in extreme power saver mode the next night and when I went back to standard mode my home button wouldn't work. I'm running everything stock, I'm on T-Mobile, I've tried updates, reboots, and a factory reset. Nothing has worked. I read a thread about an older HTC phone that said clearing the cache on HTC Sense worked for them but that didn't help for me either.

Best thing to do is to send it back for service. In my country (Belgium) HTC has great service. The sooner the better!
I've figured it out. How to fix the finger scanner /home button.
Start in your settings.
Then to apps. In apps hit the soft key in the top right corner of the screen. A new window will open up. Tap "show settings" this will show finger scanner app. Scroll down and tap on that app. Now tap "force stop". After this back out to home screen and restart your phone.
This should fix the problem. I had the same issues with my HTC 10. The scanner/home pad not working at all and no longer showing up in the "settings". I tried calling HTC customer care and did a hard reset..... 4x plus did a complete wipe and recovery. But that wouldn't fix the issue as well. So the other day I followed the top description. Now it works with no glitches.
Hope this helps you out.

Hi,
Similar thing happen to me but instead of the finger print my back button and recent app button stop working. The problem starts after i turn on the extreme power server and turn back off. I have tried hard reset and it will only work for few hours and then the same issue comes up. But i have notice if i open google maps both buttons work. I have not rooted the phone. Dose anyone knows how to fix this issue?.
OS : 6.0.1
Build: 1.95.401.4
Did you try to rescan your fingerprint from different positions. And another thing when used to fingerprint. Do you use smartlock setting? I mean maybe it detects you are in a trusted area and you do not even need to unlock it with fingerprint? Then it just shows the lockscreen when you tap it.
Greetings,
Same issue

I have this issue as well - and when I open google maps it works fine from there... Possible that it works from other apps but at other times they are really unresponsive. Did you ever fix your problem?
UPDATE - I just turned extreme power saver mode on then off and it seems to have fixed the issue for the moment...

can't thank you enough you just saved my day! I even registered on this forum just to thank you!
This is my first Samsung, and also the first phone I can remember using with a physical home button. I've searched around in the mess that is Touch WIz, and haven't found what I'm looking for.
Is it possible to set the home button to register taps instead of full presses, like the touch pad on a Macbook for example? It obviously knows when your finger is on it, so why do we need to press it in completely?
I'm sure I will get used to it eventually, but it would be nice if you could just tap/touch it like the two capacitive buttons on either side of it...
Thanks.

Why not just press the home button normally at that point? I feel like a simple touch would be activated all the time in your pocket on accident leading to lock screen issues.

I came from a Nexus 6p and somehow I feel bit odd to press the home button (I know it's silly). I don't think a simple touch will unlock the phone in my pocket as the finger print is still needed to unlock the device. However this is not currently working with the above suggested app.

Wow never knew this app existed. I was using swipe gestures to bypass the home button but this works so much better! Doesn't work in all situations though I noticed.
I haven't tried that app yet, but I'll give it a shot. It seems like such a small thing, but between that tap/press and the reversed back/recent buttons I am like a drunk trying to operate this phone...
EasyHome works ok but not good as Virtual Home on my 6s so I uninstalled it

Just like how device will TURN ON Iris Scanner after swiping on lock screen only. Same but a press applies for the fingerprint. This app leaves the fingerprint sensor ON at all times. Will it drain battery? Does it cause any other problems?

EDIT: Fixed it (for now). Copied from my post on site 2.
What's up guys, I'm sorry for the late followup. It turned out, that I was too lazy to send it back. Now, almost a year later, I'd gotten into fixing phones and got the courage to open up the device and see what's up with the power button. It felt like the issue has been a bit less noticeable recently but I checked the replacement parts prices and how to open our phone up.
I think I've fixed the issue by adding one layer of electrical tape over the button-contact. I believe the issue is that the pin a just a little bit too short to reliably properly click the button.
Short tutorial:
Turn the device off and remove the simcard bracket.
It's actually super easy and you don't need to screw or remove anything. Google "Xiaomi MI A2 LITE disassembly screen battery smontaggio" you'll find a video, in the beginning the guy shows how to remove the backcover. I've used a hard, plectrom-looking "opening-pick" at the bottom, then carefully but firmly around the sites. You don't even need to remove the flex cable from the back, just make sure you don't rip it off. Cut off a short bit from the electrical tape, tape it from the battery to the contact, so it doesn't fall off. Close the case again, turn it on and check whether the powerbutton still clicks (doesn't stick) and test the screen lock. Post back if this has worked or if you've tried it.

Does anybody have a similar issue?
I've ordered the device from gearbest to Europe. Everything worked nicely.
However, recently when I hit the power button it sometimes triggers the double click interaction and opens my camera. I've tested a few ways to press it slightly from the side, with more force or less. However it will 1/3 times vibrate and start the camera like I had double clicked it, it's more likely when I hit it a bit too lightly though. Could it already be worn out after 2 months? This never happened when the device was new as far as I ran remember.
Yes I'm aware that I could change the camera shortcut but this doesn't stop me from worrying about whether my powerbutton will give out soon.
I was using the phone happily in the case Xiaomi has provided. Dropped the phone once and got a little scratch on the VOL Button but other than that, nothing crazy has happened. Does anyone have a clue whether they will still replace it? I'd gotten it in mid-August.
<message deleted>
Buttons are usually the main gate to "planned obsolescence". I bought this device after my nexus 5 power button started working funny (I physically removed it and worked only with gestures). So, now I try not to press the button unless necessary. I unlock with fingerprint, and lock with Greenify.
In other words. Make sure of it, if the button starts working funny, I'd file a warranty claim. Or it won't last long and warranty will expire eventually. It can happen with this device and with any other piece of tech.
My opinion.
If you do place a warranty claim, let us know how xiaomi's customer service works in Europe.

when you dropped it
the power button may have got stuck
this is possible and I've seen it on some other devices
you can open it yourself if you don't care for warranty like i do
but the safest option is to claim warranty and yes they would replace it

I have the exact same issue. It started when I installed the Oreo update, but it could be a coincidence. I'm still looking for a fix.

It obviously is not a software issue. This means that they've used cheap contact points on the button if this happens to many of us. This is a hardware issue.

I'm having this issue since day one. It is obviously software, otherwise the same contact problem would occur when turning the screen ON, but it never happens. Solution is to disable the feature under System -> Gestures -> Jump to camera.
i also dissabled the camera gesture because of this issue.
im sure this is reasoned by a more or less loose power button and not an software issue

How can that be a software issue? Same issue happens to me whenever I use the power button, either to lock the screen or unlock the screen. Also if it was a software issue, it could be fixed via installing a GSI. That doesn't fix it either.

Let me break it down and you can tell me if I'm missing something.
1. Many users are reporting that the camera app starts when pushing the power button to turn the screen off.
2. They are not reporting any other issue with the power button, like the camera app starting when they try to turn the screen on, the button being irresponsive, or the camera app NOT starting when they deliberately push the button twice.
3. The problem reportedly goes away if the double-push gesture is turned off in settings.
Do you still think this is a hardware issue?

When I disable double press gesture from Gestures, still when I sometimes hit the power button, the phone locks and closes the screen and then turns the screen on again which means that it still registers one presses sometimes as double presses. Also if you've ever used a keyboard or a mouse or anything electrical with buttons on it, these appliances do the same sometimes even though you tap one button they sometimes register it twice. Which is a hardware issue. I still can't see any software issue here. When you disable the double press gesture, it doesn't launch the camera anymore but it turns on the screen after locking it (sometimes as usual)
