Google Backup - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Backup my data is on
backup account is my gmail account
Automatic restore is on
but when i try to restore from htc backup , it's shown None !!
would you please help
BR
Bikoo

any help?

any help?

Thing the issue is HTC backup, don't believe that it directly uses Google Backup. So when you do a Google Backup, you are backing up your apps list, WIFI passwords, etc. When you do a restore, you don't get personalization like you did with HTC backup. Think that HTC is getting away from the backup, and using the HTC transfer wizard.

OMG means no more full backup !!! as my M7 use to be !!

HTC Backup was retired with MM Android.
If you don't think your backup is working turn it off and turn it back on wait 24h as it seems to like to backup when the phone is idle during the night.
To check the status of your backup go to you Google Drive or use the App on the phone - click on settings then Manage backup and it will show when your apps was backed up. If you have no backups again go back to turn it off and back on and it should kick back into life.
I had to do it on my 10 as it had kept my old M8 backups after I lost all data when i S-offed lol it was only a few days out so didnt lose much.
Google backup is actually quite good these days it just works....when it works

Thanks , i follow ur instruction and lets see after 24 as it was on already but no backup so i make refresh .. lets see
Thank you

If I am not mistaken, with MM backup, you can only restore when you are first setting up the phone as new or after a reset. It will ask you to restore after you enter your Google account.
The restore option you see in your HTC 10 is to restore from an HTC Back up, which you might have made from another phone. When using the back up in HTC 10 it will go to Google back up, not HTC backup.

You will not be able back up all your data, but you will get all apps downloaded from Play Store to download again. As for the backup data, you can check what you have backed up by going to the "Drive" app, settings & "Manage backup". You will find a list of all backed up apps on Google.

Manage backup from Drive app is empty !

Can't say why, but that probably means you don't have a Google backup. See the accounts settings, is Google syncing OK in accounts & sync?

I had that problem on both my old M8 and the 10, i had to turn the backup off and back on wait 24h and it seems to kick it back into life. Once it start working it seems to work perfectly keeping the backups fresh and up to date..
As there isn't a manual switch its a bit of a pain as you have to wait so long before you can see if it helped or not.

Restore settings after OTA update

Hello Guys,
I'm wondering if (and how) I can restore my settings (of the screens, scenes etc...), after updating the phone with an OTA update.
At first (re)start, it asked me to restore a backup, but I was not sure what kind of backup it meant, so I said no. Then I saw that my scene was factory default, instead of my own. So I started looking at a way to restore the backup... but I can't find such an option anywhere.
Is it possible to restore?
Greets, Bart.
so, nobody can answer this for me?
Try this Factory reset the phone and it'll ask you if want to do a backup first say no (as you don't want to backup a now reset phone) then after the factory reset when it asks if you wanna restore say yes
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Won't I loose all my apps that way?
Yes, if you don't want to download them all again ull just have to live with doing all your homescreens and setting again

Once you have set your homescreens etc the way you want them get TitaniumBackup from the market and backup everything!
saves alot of hassle, and if your rooted you can also do a Nandroid backup and have everything just the way you left it on your phone

android revolution hd 10.3 - push not supported HTC One X

hi guys newbie here,
I know this should probably be posted in the rom thread but due to lack of posts I cant ask the question there, I have installed ARHD 10.2 and now updated to 10.3 and on both versions of the rom get the notice ( on facebook / friendcaster ) - unable to enable notifications as your phone does not support push messages, everything else seems to be fine, just wondered if anyone has come across this or if there is something I have done wrong.
Again sorry if this is posted in the wrong place

google account seems installed and set up ( play is working fine and logged in with my google account on phone set up) anything else I should check? sorry like i said kinda new to this
I restored all apps and data with titanium
thanks for your response
I've seen this pop up a couple of times on the forum, but don't recall of there was a fix.
I would take a backup (if you have titanium, I'm assuming you're rooted, so both nandroid and titanium backup) and then factory reset, put your Google account back and try the apps again.
Once you've confirmed it works, use titanium to restore user apps and data, NOT system apps or data.
Hey,
maybe you should reflash 10.3.. and before that wipe data and wipe cache.. worked for me.
My push notifications work.

[Q] Titanium Backup

So here's a question for you guys.....................
I have the HTC One M8 and am rooted and S-OFF, as well as ViperOne M8 and Titanium Backup.
Whenever I get an update from Team Venom for ViperOne, I notice it says just as it's finishing the reboot (post-install) that it's upgrading my apps. So does that mean that the backups that I have (for my apps) which are stored in Titanium Backup are no longer current? I don't think the upgrade process affects the backed up data that was done pre-install, so it seems like that data would be outdated at this point?
Please answer if you think you know.
Thank You,

No it doesn't, usually when developers release a new ROM update they also update all of their stock apps on their ROM to the newest versions. Because of that, when you reboot it tends to say that because it is updating the apps for it and or caching them. (this is to my knowledge of how it works, still though your backups are fine)
Hopefully you are only talking user installed apps? Is not a good idea to be restoring system apps.
correct, YOUR apps, that you backed up to TB are current as of the day you backed them up.
once you restore them, via TB, then of course, open play store, and let it check and see if there are any updates to YOUR previously backed up apps.

It is updating any apps that come with the ROM such as the HTC TV app or other HTC apps, TB is not included because it is not one of the pre-loaded apps that the developer included with the ROM. Also as stated above, the TB backups are not touched by this, they stay the same as they were when you made them soo you have to update the backups yourself if you wanted to.
Shadowz,
Ok, that's what I thought. I just needed to hear you say it in a different way to be sure. lol
So anytime there's a new update, I'm gonna need to re-backup all the apps with TB then. Seems like TB is only good if you mess something up and wanna restore the apps' data. When you're just doing an incremental update, or especially a full ROM install, then it's useless. I may just uninstall it.
Thanks Shadowz!

Not really useless. You can create a daily schedule to backup your apps and data so you stay always current

THIS is the proper way to use TB...
I've used TB for years. After flashing clean, I just restore my user apps, data also for some and aside from a few system settings.... I'm right back how I was.
I use Nova, so restoring it's settings puts my home screens right back how they were too.
Not sure why people would want to mess with Nandroid data restores when this whole process above takes hardly any time and never brings issues. ?

Ehh, it was late last night when I posted that, and I was cranky. lol
I don't have the PRO/donate version ($5.99?? geez), so I can only schedule up to 2 days max for automatic backups.
Thanks Stathis.

Hi KJ,
Yeah I noticed that too as I also have Nova.
So you're saying you never do any nandroid backups? Interesting. Where do you save the TB backup files? I don't like saving them on internal storage, so I just transfer them to a flash drive or OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive).
Thanks,

I occasionally do a nandroid. Only for a full restore. And usually just before wiping and Flashing something. I don't always, cause I can flash roms or stock manually just as easy.
And I just keep my TB backups on the device.

KJ,
I see. Ok. I'm still gonna do them, but more for emergencies than anything.
I did that but then one time recently something happened and my internal storage got wiped clean. I save a copy on my external SD card, but then I thought "what if my phone got lost?", and decided to just store it on flash or cloud. Just wish TB would let you store it on THEIR own server so you don't have to worry about doing it manually or automatically elsewhere. The options they have like Google Drive don't offer as much space. I have Google Drive but don't want to give up the space. And I think DropBox is only 1 GIG? There is that Titanium variant that stores them automatically for only $2.99, but that got bad reviews.
Thanks,
RockStar2005
I've used TB for a few years now (paid version). I use it mainly to backup my user data just in case. Right now my M8 is stock (just got it and I wait until my warrenty is up before rooting etc) so I'm not really using it now. When I do root I'll be able to take my user data from a few games I'm playing on my rooted Transformer Prime and put the data on my phone. That's really the only thing I use TB for execpt for freezing bloatware so I can unfreeze, use Voodo Root Keeper (if it works on the device) and get OTA's. User data is always my biggest priority. I can reinstall any apps from the play store. Yes, this can take some time but doing it this way, when I f-up I can pick and choose what apps I put back on and leave off apps that I installed in the past but never use anymore. To each is own I guess. One good example was about a year ago Google updated the standard music app. I hated it. It screwed up all my album art and I hated the new interface. I used TB to restore the older version and it was like it never happened.

Problem with HTC Backup. Incorrect cloud account!?

Hello,
So a few days ago, My HTC One M8 decided to randomly reboot itself. When it restarted it went through the whole optimizing each app (which was weird) and then loaded the home screen. But now most of my stuff has reset itself! I was logged out of every app I am normally automatically logged into. All my photos are still there and text messages. But I have lost every single person in my contact book and call log history! This is what I would like to get back.
I made a backup a couple months ago using HTC Backup. This is what happens when I try to restore the backup:
Apps>HTC Backup>Restore from backup>Checking for saved backup>
Then it finds the backup on Google Drive (G*******[email protected]) So I select the HTC (This Phone) backup and click next>
Then it saids setting up accounts>Choose an account>G*******[email protected]>
Then I get the following error message
"Incorrect cloud storage account"
"Please sign in with the cloud storage account for the selected backup"
Can someone please help? I have opened the Drive app and logged into my account and tried again but still nothing. I assume this problem is arising because of the Drive app or the HTC backup app resetting itself. But I really need my contacts back!
I am running Android 6.0. Not rooted.
Things I have tried to restore my contacts:
Wondershare Dr.Fone
Resyncing contacts on my Gmail, Hotmail etc. (but i never saved them to those)
HTC Phonebook>Contacts to display>All contacts
None of these have worked.
Thanks in advance!
Ok just found out HTC Backup isn't supported with Android 6.0 :/
So with that option off the table.. Is there any way at all that I can get my contact list back?
Ok well seems like I still should have access to the HTC restore function just not the backup function with Android 6.0.
Does anyone know how to help me restore from the back up?
Thanks
HTC restore will restore the backup that you made prior to Marshmallow.
Don't you backup you contact with gmail account ? When you sync it, it will sync your contact ?
The only way that maybe work (no guarantee) is do factory reset. During the setup, it will ask you to restore from which backup that you recently have with Marshmallow and make your selection to restore (don't choose today .. but earlier)

Backing up contacts to Google/Gmail is default and automatic. So unless you changed the default, they should be backed up, and will restore automatically, when you login to your Google account.

Question Any way to restore backup from google drive after an update?

Hey, is there a way to restore my messages from google drive?

Yes, it is possible to restore your messages from Google Drive if you have previously backed them up. If you're receiving a message saying that your device is not active, here are a few things you can try:
1. Make sure your phone is properly connected to the internet
2. Try logging out of your Google account and logging back in
3. Check if you are using the same Google account that you backed up your messages with
4. Try restarting your phone and then attempting to restore your messages
5. Check if you have given necessary permissions to the app to access your Google Drive backup
If none of the above works and you are still unable to restore your messages from Google Drive, try contacting Google support for further assistance.
