Ice View without case - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Before I purchase the Ice View case, I'd love to know whether it's possible to activate the app to have as part of a lockscreen without the case. It's such a lovely view, and I wondered if anyone was working on it. I'm pretty sure I know it's not currently possible.

I activated it a few times by mistake, I think you can use it without the case. I will report back to confirm.

Okay so I don't know how it happened but before I did a factory reset, I was able to access the Ice View app, and it would enable itself after swiping up to unlock somehow. After the factory reset I'm no longer able to do so. Maybe someone will figure it out.

Put a magnet on the lower left of the screen, it activates it. BUT yes I would like to know if someone could make it work without the case as a lockscreen or something..

Does anyone maybe know what flag is turned on when a magnetic source is detected? I am sure once we figure this out, we can get an xposed module to "slip that switch" when the phone is locked. I am happy to try to put something together. The keyword being try....long time programmer new to android development.

So we know that the ice view lockscreen is activated by a magnet in the left bottom corner. Is there already somebody who found the files and is able to get it working without magnets?

Phone picks up and hangs up when pulled from pocket

The drag up/down (accept/deny call) is really idiotic when the phone is in a pocket, where you have to pull up the phone from the pocket when you get a call. Do anybody have any solution to this problem? are there any alternatives accepting/denying calls?
Yes, this is very frustrating for me also, haven't found a solution though!
Use Lockbot Pro from the market
You can choose from several types of locking screens, and modify them.
Word of advice: get the Pro version, it is much more stable then the free one
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
@fluor: I know a guy that use fluor as nickname...are you from norway by any chance?
Lockbot pro, is a bit lame, it only works intermittently!
I have only tried the free version, and have no intention of trying the paid one, just on the off chance that it may work correctly!!
Surely, a developer would wish to entice someone into paying for their app, by making a trial/free version that actually works!!
What's the bloody point, in making a free app that doesn't work properly, as if I would pay for this rubbish!
HTC should have designed an unlock screen that doesn't hang up your call, simply when you take it out of your pocket, I mean, is it really to much to ask, for a device that costs this much!
It's pretty basic stuff really.... I don't want an elephants ear on a bun, I just don't want to keep hanging up on people when I take my phone out of my bloody pocket!
i also hope for a free app. i see there are a lot when i search for lock, but not sure which actually work.
for the hang up problem, a workaround is to put the phone the other way when you insert it into the pocket, so it picks up instead of hanging up when you pull it up. however it's stupid.

You say Lockbot Pro is lame, but have only tried the free version??
I think you mean the developer is lame if he made an unstable free version?
All I can say is that it works perfectly for me, and I can only recommend it based on my own experience.
I had a few problems with the free version, yes...but I took the chance on the Pro version anyways...after all, what's $1.99 or whatever anyway.
And, now I have a lockscreen that works as I want it
also using lockbot pro now to get rid of the useless lock screen from sense.
but it doesnt solve this prob, as it doesnt lock on incoming calls
I have a workaround for you.
Put your desire in your pocket top first.
Then when you take it out of the pocket, if the screen is pressed, then "gesture" will be the opposite of what is needed to answer the call.
You will do a gesture up instead of down to answer the call. That is how I do it
Pattern unlock is useless too. You still get the slide to answer/reject screen before the pattern thingy comes up.
Is there a way we can solve this with a cooked rom? I'm trying to wait for the 2.2 rom to be ready, but this problem is annoying enough to flash now I think.

So now you'll accidentally reject the call instead of picking it up..?

No pulling te screen up doesn't do anything, while pulling it up answers it.
I had a htc hero for about 8 months, always had it top down face towards leg.
Use the desire in the same way and never ever had a call in my pants.
I can't believe HTC have made such an elementary mistake.
I ended up buying a flip case for the phone. Solved the problem and protects the phone and screen as well.
Similar Problem
I have a very similar problem.. Because the vibration is so weak I often do not feel the phone go off in my pocket. Due to the warmth of my leg and moving around the phone continuously picks up by itself.
Does anyone else have this problem?
This is very annoying!!!
If I could only choose to answer calls by the hard button, it would solve it.
Has anybody (rooted) tried using the stock lock screen (the horizonal swipe as opposed to vertical), could this solve your problem?

Yes. Search the forum for vanilla/rotary.
has anyone found a simple solution to this? I do put my phone in top first... but this means i am hanging up on people when i don't want to.
I want to be able to pull my phone out of my pocket and check who it is then decide what to do.

[Q] Can you edit the notification bar?

I just got this phone yesterday and it's awesome. I moved from the original Mytouch 3g to this so it's a huge leap. My only gripe with this is the huge screen. It's impossible for me to securely hold the phone and type simultaneously.
My question is if there's a way to change the notification widget. I don't use bluetooth so I want to replace that with something else. I've tried looking through all of the options but I couldn't find a solution. Am I stuck with them until a root comes out?

Nope, not till we get rooted. Just sit tight, it's gonna happen soon

[Poll] Do you use face unlock, pattern, etc?

Just curious about what kind of security people use to unlock their phones. I played with the face unlock when I first got the GN but eventually got too impatient. I'm trying to decide if continuing to "Improve face matching" will eventually make it fast almost every time, or if I should just go ahead and switch to pattern or pin.
If you lock your phone, I found face unlock minimize touching the screen and thus less blur on screen
But sometimes I feel face unlock delay my logging into the phone in case I want to do something quick.... I still prefer pattern unlock

I used to have no pin because I like the stock lockscreen and being able to put SMS phone etc in the slide to unlock. Now that aokp has the option for both I use pin and lockscreen. Feels like iPhone lock exactly

I use pattern..but not for security reasons at all. I got tired of pocket dialing people.

Pin. When you think of the personal information on a smartphone it is a little scary. I have droidlost installed for added protection, but I'll only use a pin because anything else is just to insecure. Most pattern locks can be guessed by smudges on the screen in just a few attempts. Face unlock can be cracked with a bad facebook pic.
While face unlock can be hacked with a picture, no one that finds your lost phone is going to know what you look like. I always thought that was an interesting criticism of the face unlock. My friends might be able to hack into my phone, but that's not really who I'm trying to secure it from.
I also used to only use slide, but I have recently become more and more aware of how much information is available to anyone holding my phone. I think identity theft would be pretty easy if I lost it

Yeah, pin and password are the only two that are very secure, but I just use slide. My mentality is, I'd be much more concerned if someone got ahold of my wallet with all my cash, ids, cards, etc, but I don't put a lock on that. I just keep it with me all the time, same as my phone. I've never lost either and don't plan to! But I do have SeekDroid just in case.
Face Unlock, just so that when I get into the homescreen, JuiceDefender has turn on my Data Connection. Oh, and too impress friends too
Face Unlock.
It is much better than nothing and I don't want to key in the PIN every time the screen is locked.
I never carry my own photo with me other than the one on my driver license which I confirmed would not unlock my phone. So I don't see why people say Face Unlock is useless.
I use a pattern, get it wrong and I have a picture of you emailed to me.
I used slide to unlocked before I installed cerberus, might as well use the features.

Actually it would be very easy to find out. Most lockscreens will splash contact information. If you find my phone you will have my name, work phone number, and multiple email addresses. That is at least three ways to google and find pictures for most people. I would argue that this is the most insecure method possible to lock up your device.

how do you get the phone to send you the pic?
I like to use the pattern, but it gets annoying when I'm just sitting at home texting back and forth, as I have to unlock it every single time. I end up turning the security off lol. Sometimes I'm good and turn it back on when I leave the house.

After enabling Face Unlock, when I touch the power button, I can only see the date, time, and the network name. There is no personal information at all.

Under security settings click 'Owner info' to turn it on. Shows whatever message you want to the hopefully honest person who finds your phone. Only hitch is that if the phone is plugged in it just says "charging xx%" rather than the message. Don't know if that is a bug or if Google just figured that if your phone is plugged in it is probably not lost.
I'm using a PIN because I installed unlock with WiFi and it requires it. When I'm on a registered WiFi network I just slide to unlock.

also, i feel that pattern unlock can be easily seen & remembered by people standing behind you even from quite a distance, as compared to pin/password lock
No. I'm ugly enough and don't need to be reminded of it constantly.
Neat trick though.

Rotation stuck in upside down portrait???

Hey guys,
Just thought I'd ask. Today my n7 seems to be stuck in upside down portrait! Turning rotation in and off doesn't do anything, nor does rebooting. And it won't rotate to landscape. I haven't done a factory reset yet, hoping to avoid it. Just thought I'd ask her first.
There are some root apps that can force rotation ...

I've had this happen today also, in the recent past I had it lock on landscape (with the back camera behind the upper left corner). I had been using a non-standard kernel, and switched back to the stock, but it didn't seem to stop the problem. I read in another thread that there may be some problems with the sensors, perhaps affected by the on-off magnet in a smart case. I don't know that that is a problem, but I did just recently get a new smart polio case and if that's the problem I'll get something else!
Dga, since the last update I haven't bothered rerooting mine. Currently is sick standard.
Mbam, I do use a poetic brand case with magnet.
For the sake of it I might just factory reset and see what happens. Might even reinstall the stock rom, or maybe try L.
Well that was just seriously whack. My new laptop hasn't been connected to my nexus 7, and I thought I should re-root and back it up before I do anything. So I connected it to my laptop, waited until whatever drivers had been installed, then suddenly the n7 screen flipped around to normal, and now all rotation angles seem to be working again!!
I love technology......

How to disable knuckles gestures altogether?

After latest update my phone thinks I'm trying to enter split screen or something and draws the blue sparkly line when I'm just trying to do something ordinary.
I haven't found a way to completely disable knuckles gestures even though it's off in the accessibility settings.
Halp!
Same issue here, even after stop it.
Same issue I that I have, I try to disable it from accessibility options, but it doesn't work
Same ****. Also thought that after the update this setting got reset but it's disabled...
Me too! It is really annoying and I've been trying to find a way to stop it from coming up! It keep messing up my gameplay! lol
Same issue here
Performed the steps from Huawei support and no success.
I've done clean cash and settings reset
On the end they confirmed that this is emui 10.1 issue.
Interesting that the guy from support team has the same phone as mine and had no problems after update.
The final suggestion was to roll back to 10.0 or wait for the update from Huawei.
Ok, I've found a temporary solution, but you need to use appAssistant.
For any apps that are giving you issues with the knuckle gesture, add them to appAssistant, and allow appAssistant to run. Then make sure you select the option in appAssistant to disable knuckle gesture.
Hope the fix comes out soon. But for now, this is good enough.
Any updates on this?
So after phone reset I ended up with rolling back to 10.0 and disable auto update.
I'll wait for the patch from Huawei
Thanks
Looks to be bugged in EMUI 10.1 and Huawei is aware of the issue... hopefully able to solve it soon. It's quite irritating.
