I had zero problems with pairing to My Ford Touch in my Focus. There are some messages to pay attention to (mostly permissions) and an option to add the 10 as a trusted device.
In the past I also discovered that not allowing automatic phonebook downloads (this is in the MFT menu) helped with the Blue Tooth audio not stuttering.

Both the device and Sync can see each other but it doesn't matter whether I initiate it from the device or car it won't pair. Sync doesn't come up with the pin prompt it just sits there.
Perhaps I'll try a sync master reset if you got it working ok. I thought it might have been a compatibility issue with a new bluetooth radio stack on the htc 10.
If that fails I'll have to bug my dealer about updating my cars software.

Have a '16 Ford and Sync paired right up with my 10.

I tried a Sync master reset twice and rebooted my 10. It's not having any of it.
I tried it in my mum's 2012 Focus and it paired with Sync first time no issues.
Guess I'll be taking my car back to Ford and hope they can fix it with a software update.

Make sure you remove (unpair) sync from your phone & restart it before trying to repair it to sync after the master reset. I also had no problems pairing my 10 to MyFord Touch.

Some cars won't pair unless you're in park also, so make sure you finish pairing it before driving.

Bummer. Yeah, see about a Sync software update. Before you make an appt, you can go to the Ford site and follow the instructions on determining if you need an update (sync my ride, I think it is).
My Ford Touch is running 3.6.2; however, 3.8 is now available. Good luck. Definitely sounds the the issue is your vehicle's software.

I've already applied the October update which seems to be the latest an end user can load manually.
I'm going to try pulling the fuse to force a hard reboot to see if that fixes it. Otherwise it'll be going back to the dealer to see if they can fix it.
I can't understand why my mum's Focus worked on 4 year old software but mine didn't on 6 month old software though. Just computers being fickle I guess.
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA Labs

Fuse didn't make any difference either.
So took it in to Ford this morning, tech comes out and guess what. Pairs first time, haha.
Only thing he did different was have the ignition on (rather than just turning sync on manually in accessory mode).
Stupid computers! Lol.

Fix
I have a possible fix.
My issue was I couldn't pair my HTC 10 with my ford territory 2012 Bluetooth. My phone detected it but it would read "pairing failed" on my car dash screen.
You need to download two apps:
- BlueScan
- BT direct
Use bluescan to identify the car Bluetooth address (a string of letters and numbers)
Then, using BT direct, enter the address manually and hit pair
This worked for me.
Hope it helps

bluetooth problems?

Anyone else having bluetooth problems or is this operator error?
I can switch bluetooth on, make my handset visible, pair with other devices and receive files from other handsets, however when I try to send anything, I can't connect to paired devices and bluetooth hangs meaning I have to switch my handset off and on.
I was using bluetooh last night and all was ok
but unlike my last phone c902 the bluetooth is on a timer then turns off visibility
Working fine for me. Paired up my bluetooth headset and will still be working hours later even if I haven't interacted between them.
It's strange, devices show as paired but not connected and I can't make them connect.
Have been able to use BT for file transfer between my Desire and laptop and HD2. Also connected to my Plantronics BT headset. I think you need to have an appropriate BT driver for some devices like BT keyboards.
I too am having minor issues.
The wife's hands free kit (Parrot CK3000 evo) in the car supports voice dialling by sending contacts to it and then recording a tag which is associated with the contact. This way the kit can do the voice dialling for handsets that don't support it.
For some reason the Desire refuses to send contacts to the hands free kit claiming it doesn't support the correct bluetooth profiles. This obviously isn't the case as all the other phones we have tried work perfectly with the CK3000.
Only a minor issue, as in my car which has the CK3300 everything works fine (including syncing the phonebook to the car kit). It's more of a problem for the wife though, as she wants to upgrade to the Desire on Saturday when her contract is up for renewal but at the minute won't be able to voice dial from the car.
Dae.
Strange. I'll try connceting to my laptop later.
I too am having difficulty sending files over bluetooth. I can accept files fine, from any source, yet cannot send from my HTC Desire. First the notification says complete, but 0 files sent. Then going inside it shows it has failed. And then clicking it and retrying shows Unknown file. What's going on??
Tried sending to two mobile phones, and a Windows 7 laptop. Easily works the other way around. Also, sometimes I can't turn my bluetooth off properly, it just crashes the chip while turning off and can't turn it on or off until I reboot. Thought it might be Advanced Task Killer, but tried the same thing immediately after a reboot and still can't send files. Any ideas?
still no closer to solving this, I think it may be going back tomorrow.
I'm also having problems...
I have the Parrot CK3200 LS-COLOR and it connects to the phone ok, or vice versa and then it always falls over when trying to sync the contacts... It shows my facebook profile pic and then it fails.
If I dial a contact through the phone, or receive a call, it comes out fine through the speakers.
So I'm wondering if it's something to do with the way the the desire handles contacts.
Sorry if there's been a resolution to this, I did search first
me to also having the same problems. spent 4 hours on google last night and still no closer.
Weird as it might sound, I had no issues connectiong to car stereo. But when I tried to pair it with friends mobile, SonyEricsson c902 - it crashed!
I was trying to send a picture file I have downloaded using bluetooth.
Also, can anyone tell me how to send a mp3 file I have downloaded off the internet to another mobile using bluetooth?
Thanks
Have you enabled FTP under Bluetooth advanced settings? I have no problem transfering files to and from PC or other mobile phone. Also make sure the device is dicroverable and paired.
I had a similar problem which I wrote to HTC about: I paired and connected the Desire with my bluetooth car head unit and it works fine for phone & audio, but it will not auto connect each time I get in the car and I have to go through the pairing process and enter a code each time. Voice dialling also doesn't work. My previous handset (Touch HD) connected automatically if the bluetooth was on so I don't think it's a problem with the head unit. Someone suggested it might be due to an old bluetooth protocol on the head unit (I'd like to avoid having to replace it if possible).
i managed to send a file to another htc desire today, last time i tried, i admit i didn't enable the ftp service, however I could not send via bluetooth to a nokia n96 but to be fair, my desire probably just didn't want anything to do with it . but on a serious note I cant seem to get it to send to my windows 7 x64 disto.

take that back .. apart from the N96 joke.. reason windows was not accepting was because avast anti virus was blocking it.

Bluetooth not alive when phone is locked?

All,
I have this small issue with my HTC Desire and the Parrot CK3000 Evolution. Until now, everything works perfectly (calling, sending contacts, voice dialing, ending calls,...)
However I have one small issue. When I enter my car, and my phone is locked, the Desire will not pair with the Parrot. From the moment I activate the screen, pairing is done within a few seconds. I already tried to leave it there for half an hour, no pairing, touched the screen, pairing within a few seconds.
It looks to me like the bluetooth is not active / alive when the phone is locked (or in sleep). From the moment the pairing is done, everything works fine, also when the phone is back in lock / sleep.
Anybody has anything similar or has a solution for this? I searched the market for some kind of Bluetooth-keep-alive application, but could not really find it...
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Speedygerre
Small bump, nobody any idea for a solution or somekind of workaround / app?

I have a similar situation with my Audi A5 (factory BT kit).
It will connect when the phone is locked (screen off etc) but it can take anything from 1 to 10 minutes before it does connect.
Like yourself, my Desire connects immediately if the phone is not locked.
Strangely, it appears to work OK in my Mazda MX-5 which has a Kenwood DNX8220BT system (Bluetooth, SatNav, Ipod, coffee maker etc) - and the Bluetooth is a Parrot system. Having said that, I haven't used the MX-5 much since I got my Desire so it might not be a representative sample.
There is definitely something amiss though.
I have a Parrot CK 3100, and whilst I am happy to report that I do not have the same problem as you, I did have a problem syncing my contacts.
Check out this site, and download the software to udate to the latest firmware. You will need a laptop with either built in bluetooth, or a seperate bluetooth dongle.
http://www.parrot.com/uk/support/onlinehelpguides
I updated the firmware on mine, and now my contacts sync properly.
There is a good chance that updating could fix your connection problem as well.
Sorry forgot to add, that updating the kit really is a doddle, but their software is Windows 32bit ONLY and definitely no MAC!
Thans pergolesi, I hope your suggestion workshop, I will try it when I have some time one of the next days.
However I still think it has something to do with the Desire, since syncing workshop perfectly when Desire is not locked...

I don't know about the Bluetooth but I know my wifi deactivates after about 5 minutes when it's locked even though I have it set to never turn off. Maybe the Bluetooth is doing the same.
Perhaps not much help, but I sometimes play music from my Desire on my car headunit using Bluetooth streaming, and that continues to work fine when the screen goes off and the phone is locked. It also still responds to commands from the headunit (skip, pause, etc).
Once it's connected, everything works OK for me as well, it just is the connecting moment which apparently does not always work

Can I ask what year your A5 is? I've got a 2010 A3 and BT doesn't work properly with my Desire I can get it to pair, but then it will disconnect a few minutes later and the only way to reconnect seems to be to unpair/repair or switch the car off/on. When it IS working it can make calls, etc. fine - but I just can't get it to stay connected I tried my Audi dealer but they just said it's not on the Audi list and there's no update to support it, so interested to hear you got it working on your A5.

My A5 is a 2008 model with SatNav and therefore MMI High. The Desire paired straight away with no problems and both the car and the phone remember each other - it just takes awhile sometimes for one or the other to realise it and connect.
I'm pretty certain that it is the phone that has the problem as I had no such problems with several Sony Ericsson phones previously.

Thanks - interesting. I wonder how many different BT stacks Audi run - I was hoping they'd share some common code and therefore be updated quickly but it sounds like this isn't the case given that it's working fine on your A5. Thanks for the info though!

bluetooth pairing issues / delete paired devices

Hey guys,
since I bought my bluetooth headphones (Wearhaus Arc), which are actually pretty cool, I have lots of troubles with them.
When I paired my phone (HTC One M8 running latest official stock unbranded Android 6.0) with the headphones the first time, everything was great.
While using them from day to day I was faced with connection issues. That means, that both my phone and headphones are on, but it takes (almost everytime) a couple of tries to connect them. Even if I tap in the saved devices on the headphone, the connect could not be established. Turning off and on the headphones and bluetooth on my phone was the only way to fix it.
If I finally had a connection, everything was fine. In a few very rare cases, the connection worked at the first go.
Some weeks ago, a new firmware for the headphones was released, so I wanted to install them. During the update process, the updater (Android app) said, that the verifcation failed and the firmware cound no be updated. Same behaviour with the Windows 10 app. Even with another phone it did not work. Seems like, something is wrong with the headphones.
So I contacted the support again (first time they gave me the advice to use the Windows 10 app to update firmware) and told me, that I have to return it for repair. The gave me a return label etc. and I sent it back.
After waiting a few weeks I finally got it back. With zest I turned them on, but the joy was marred, because my phone did not recognize them.
Before sending them back, I unpaired the headphones in order to start over with the new ones. Maybe this was the mistake...
I did some pairing testing with other phones (HTC Sensation, BlackBerry Q10, HTC HD2), which found the headphones immediately and worked fine. So my guess is, that only my M8 has a problem with them.
Pairing, unpairing and "repairing" (pairing again) between my M8 and the other mentioned phones worked well, so there cannot be an general bluetooth issue.
After doing a factory reset on my M8 I'm a step futher, because now the phone sees the headphones (somethimes), but it isn't able to establish a connection. In case I see it, I tap on the available devices, the phone tries to connect, but a second later I get the message: "unable to pair. Make sure your devices are on and discoverable, and then try pairing again". Rebooting the phone does not work. I also cleared the data and cache of the bluetooth share app and performed a network reset like described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/htc-one-m8-bluetooth-wont-android-6-0-t3340279
My question to guys is, what can I do, to get the headphones to work?
Is it possible, that on the phone is still a piece of information left about the former connection, which refuses any new connection?
Is there a file on the phone, which stores the bluetooth connections? if yes, maybe deleting or editing the file could help?
Thank you in advance!

Bluetooth always reconnecting in car

The problem is to connect Bluetooth on a Moto Z Play Android 7.1.1 patchlevel 2/2018 (current in reteu, was same result with Android 6.0.1 12/2016) with a Volvo XC40 car.
The first pairing with Bluetooth succeeds for a second. Then, nearly immediately, both displays (car and mobile) show reconnecting for about 10 seconds. It has a connect for a fraction of a second, and then is reconnecting and so on.
Trying flight mode and then only Bluetooth enabled on the mobile did not help. IIRC it showed some message about "My Volvo Carnull not bonded" (the name of the car for Bluetooth is "My Volvo Car" and some message with typo, something like "conecnting not successful". After that I rebooted, result was the state before with reconnecting.
Did try this several times. Also did try to reduce the amount of Bluetooth access types the car tries. There are 4 connected: phone, audio, internet, contacts. Did also not help.
Has anyone an idea how to get a successful connection or what the cause of the problem is? Did search for similar problems with Bluetooth in cars, but could not find anything (except for that hint with flight mode which did not help).
What I tried by now:
- Flight mode, only Bluetooth (as already mentioned). No change
- Remove all bluetooth connections. Pair new. No change
- Delete data for sytem app "Bluetooth Freigabe". No change
All other bluetooth connections are working fine. Another Moto Z Play using Android 7.0 (01/2017) is working flawlessly with that car. Strange for me is that it didn't work on 6.0.1 in the same way it does now fail on 7.1.1, but the other Moto Z Play using 7.0 is connecting stable.
Still the question: Does anyone have an idea how to get the connection working?
Factory reset?
I see that you deleted all bt connection but do you have some apps that are using bt? Like for smartwatch, headphones...?
I have Amazfit and watch must be connected to be able to pair a new device. Drow me crazy first time when I had that problem. I thought that car audio is broken, then phone... After pairing, watch doesn't have to be connected to reconnect.

I was afraid this reply could come. When doing a factory reset, I do following: Pack /data/media somewhere because Nandroid omits this. Backup all partitions using twrp. Backup all apk using adb. Export SMS. Export contacts. Screenshots of the launcher screens. All this takes about 2-3 hours. Then I struggle a week until my device behaves like before. I'd be willing to do it if I saw a reason why it could help.

Headphone, yes, there is August EP650 configuration tool that is not necessary. Thank you for the hint, will try it. Also I read somewhere it may help to delete cache partition, that's also worth a try before doing factory reset. Maybe I'll wait for Oreo before trying factory reset, could be they fixed some bug there.
Edit: BatOn which shows Bluetooth battery for external devices could also be the culprit.

That's a strange behavior indeed. Amazfit seems to do something wrong.
It doesn't get any better if you upgrade to Oreo, I've been having problems with my Moto Z play disconnecting and reconnecting to the radio in my Corolla constantly ever since I went up to nougat. To be honest I just bought a good pair of headphones and stopped using the radio. Good luck though, if someone finds something that helps let me know.
I'm using bt with car audio, headphones, smartwatch... No problems at all, except one with Amazfit. And that is related to their bt implementation, not Moto fault.

Seems the last action to remove Bluetooth related apps was the right one . There were two apps installed:
1. BatOn showing the state of battery of connected Bluetooth device
2. August configuration app for August EP650 headset
Removed both as they are usually not needed and it seems to work now. Will see later if it only worked for the short test I did today (currently I try to avoid driving because of an injury) or if it keeps stable.
Good, you didn't have to factory reset after all

Bluetooth car issue.

So, Bluetooth works well with all alter devices but does not recognise my car Bluetooth. I have not had any issues so far testing from all possible android phones to Nokia and iPhone. I have a 2010 C class. Any suggestions? The car says that no devices has been found when trying to pair. Thanks
Same exact problem here with an Audi A1. I contacted support, but they only suggested things I had already tried (like factory reset etc). I'm going to try and get a log to them at some point this week.
Are you on the latest OTA? That's when the problems started happening for me - it was working fine before that.

Yes, latest update. Unfortunately support gave me "support" I have already tried and if you have a bit of knowledge of android you do not need some to tell you those things. We just have to wait until next update. Thanks
Have you tried turning off HD audio in the device settings?
When the device is connected, go to Bluetooth and select the cog next to the device. Uncheck HD audio.
This worked for me with my JVC Bluetooth car stereo.
