That's not necessarily true. If you take the sim card out and turn off mobile data you can get around them pinging your old phone. I did the same thing with my Verizon Samsung GS4.

Not if the sim chip is out. If you're worried change your IMEI number. I've been using my Galaxy S4 for over a year now with no issues from Verizon.

t-mobile G2 totally dead, please help

I have a serious problem. My tmobile g2 is rooted and has virtuous rom installed. It worked fine for a week but then all of the sudden it died. Completely shut off as I disconnected phone from the charger. Now I can't get the phone to turn on. I have tried volume down and press power button. No response. I took out the battery and sd card and put them back in. No response. I even tried battery from a different g2 phone. still the phone refuses to turn on. Did I brick my phone or what?
I bought the phone on craigslist so I can't go to t-mobile for a solution.
I have just spoken to HTC repair line and given them all my info. They have asked me to send in the cell for a repair. If the cell has no out-of-warranty damage then it will be free. Now the problem is, out-of-warranty damage also includes modifying the software in the cell. Now mine is rooted and has a custom rom on it. You guys think they will find out or care to find out? I mean the phone is totally dead and will not boot up at all.
Please give solution before I sent it in. Is there anything I can do on my part to revive the cell? thanks.
It is really depends on your luck!!
maybe the phone is totally **** and they will give you a new one so will not
know it was rooted .or maybe they can fix it and will find out!!
this is a long shut but try to connect it to your computer and see if you can
you ADB shell by any chance??

Then how will tmobile be able to find out...
I bought a motorola cliq off craigslist and it had scratches so I called tmobile and returned it for a remanufactured one np. They don't know where u got it, u may be the original owners family member... there is a 1 year warranty from tmobile from the purchase date from tmobile. They don't care who u are, unless u were dumb enough to tell them u got it off craigslist....

Umm, I am not sure if its that simple. I remember we took a phone to tmobile for repair and they asked for receipts etc. It seems each telephone is registered to your name in your account and they know if this phone belonged to you or not. So lets see, I will try it and see if they can help me out. I will play dumb.
Thanks for the help.

if its that simple? I wasnt saying this is how it "should" happen. I said this is what happened with me. I dont understand why they would treat you any differently. They have a manufacture warranty for a year, fact.
But you are right, just play stupid... they should swap u out.
I swapped the cliq right when i bought it and then i swapped it again about 2 months ago (a week before the year was up). Swapped it then bought my wife a g2. so we have a brand new (remanuf) cliq in the closet just in case.

I concur on going to T-Mobile and getting a new sim card for free.
In the least it sounds like your card works partially, so why not get a new fully functional one...
I had the EXACT same thing happen to me.
Call tmobile and have them send you a replacement phone--it was the only thing that worked.
(mine happened within a day of sim unlocking my phone...no clue if there was a connection).
tmobile WILL replace your phone, even if you bought it on craigslist. When the guy tells you 'no', tell them you would like to speak with someone about canceling your account.
Tell that person your story--how you are a good customer, how this phone was working, doesn't work now, etc...
Tell them that AT&T (true) will replace a phone you bought on craigslist, as long as it was an ATT phone and still under warranty.
This worked for me.
Worst case, you can send it back to samsung (but they won't send you a replacement...you have to send it in)
Good luck!

My signal suddenly disconnected????

OK, so I was gonna go to this place, and then I realized that my GNex had no signal! No whatsoever. It did spike up to full for like 30 seconds and got no signal again... Why does it do that? I did drop my phone before I noticed it, but when I dropped it, it still had full service, so I don't think that's it. I also flashed from yakjuux to takju (including radio and bootloader) but I did that few days ago and had no problem until today.
Since, it is still disconnected, I went to settings-mobile networks-available networks and then clicked Koodo (My carrier), then the message popped up saying "Cannot connect to this network right now. Please try again later." and now, I have this notification saying "Selected network (Koodo) is unavailable"
Does this mean that my carrier's sevice is off right now? Or does this mean that my phone is broken? Or does this mean that my SIM card is broken? I need answer ASAP!
Can anyone please help me? I really need to call and text people

The same thing happened to me yesterday around 17:30. I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus. I'm on T-Mobile's monthly 4g prepaid plan, so I thought the coverage was just spotty. When I got home the next day I noticed it was still like it. I called T-mobile to ask if there was a service disruption, and the rep informed me that there was not, but to bring it in. Indeed the rep himself was using a GSM Galaxy Nexus, and he had 4 bars. He even changed my sim and it still wouldn't pick up a signal. It's either the 4.1 update, which he had also, or we have bad radios.

Should use another phone to call your carrier and see whatsup.
How have you modified your phone? If you're stock, then its not your software. There's nothing in the 4.1 update or any of that that's known to be a bug with network connections.
Also, have you tried completely doing a factory reset and/or some airplane mode toggles or reboots?

Highly doubt that a radio flash can fix this. Sounds like a tower/network issue or something you changed in your phone's settings. Sporadic network outages DO happen.

I can guarantee you that it's not tower problem cuz my dad's Nexus S handles Koodo SIM just fine. If you are saying the truth... I am officially screwed since I got no receipt for the GNEX. I did email the seller of this GNEX if he can help me, but he didn't reply yet. Of course, that was few minutes ago and he probably didn't even check his email. I didn't change anything that can disrupt my cell connection. Also I am running stock and I did factory reset and the problem still occurs... Do you think this is because I dropped my phone?

Very likely could be the issue. Surely the seller isn't going to help you out if you dropped your phone... I'd make sure all of the pins in the SIM tray are working etc and its not damaged. That's easy to see at least.
Unless you can confirm your SIM is working fine in another phone, I'd still call to see if that SIM's account is all in order and active.

Just look at the tray and see if the pins are damaged or bent.
If somethings "broken", its likely something broken internal from when you dropped it.
Did you take the SIM out and use it in another phone to confirm 100% that your account/SIM is working properly? This is just part of troubleshooting... super easy and quick way to eliminate one potential problem.

Depends on the damage. It might be easy as bending some prongs, might be as much work as replacing the SIM tray. Unless it dropped at a really weird angle though, I doubt the SIM tray got damaged... the reason I recommend it is its the easiest thing to check without disassembling the phone. Everything else inside is much much harder to diagnose.
Like I've said over and over, if you've done a factory reset (and are on stock firmware) / reboots and the problem persists, its not a firmware/software issue. Also, if your SIM works fine, then likely you severely damaged something inside the device when you dropped it.

take the battery out. plug your phone in and try to go into download mode.
I did the same thing only with the AT&T version on my Sprint s3. It's officially bricked. If you take it back to the Sprint store they'll swap it out for a new one. There is literally nothing else you can do. It sucks. I know.

As was stated here.. If you can't get it to download mode (Odin) then your gonna be taking back to store.. It sucks.. just ensure you triple check before flashing anything.. our phone is the SPH-L710. I have seen some who have flashed roms (tried to) for the I9300.. Which is the international version.. So just becareful on next adventure.. and most of all, don't be afraid to ask!!! This place is a wealth of knowledge and most are always willing to help.
Thank you everyone!
Looks like I will try to get it swapped out at the Sprint store.. I hope they won't give me any trouble for not being their customer though.

Just to update (for anyone in my situation without a Sprint account), two sprint stores wouldn't replace my phone because I don't have a Sprint account. I even told them that the reason why I want to fix it is to activate it for Sprint, but they wouldn't budge... It looks like I will have to find a friend who has Sprint, associate the broken S3's ESN with their account, and bring it back for replacement.

It makes sense. Why would Sprint replace a phone on there network if you don't even have their service..? Not trying to be mean, but it's common sense.
Some people buy bricked phones though.

I do not think that is going to work. I think you are going to have to send your phone here.
Dude just call samsung and tell them phone died during a phone call say it wouldn't boot back up. You have a free year manufacture warranty use it. As long as your screen is not cracked samsung will replace your phone. I had two replaced gs3 . They will troubleshoot with you first then send you a box to send your old phone and a new or refurbished phone back. There really fast a week or days depends on where you live. The only problem or thing I didn't like was ups just left the phone at the door without me signing. I wasn't at home but just right on the ground on the front door it could have got stolen or rained on. Don't waste your time with sprint just call Sammy man . Oh my phone was rooted to and they never said a thing. All they do Is put new software on it and send it back out to someone else. Goodluck

Yes, I believe you officially bricked it, it happened to be before, loaded a bad ROM, but for sprint?, I don't think it would be a problem, I went and said I got it a week ago, and I left it to charge one night, and woke up and bit won't turn on, and they gives it to their tech guy to check it out, but he failed because as we all know, its bricked and can't be turned on, it took like 2 hours for the check up, so idk, find something to kill time then go back lol, grab a hotdog , but anyway, so i had to pay insurance which was only like 48 I believe, which is better than buying a new galaxy s3 lol, but if you already for insurance, then you should be set , and should have to come back to the store In about 3 days to collect your new phone, and I'm sorry for your lost , and good luck

Will a T999 with a Bad IMEI work outside U.S.?

Hi, someone is selling me a really nice T999 in excellent condition, with the problem that the IMEI was blocked, and it won't work on any carrier in the U.S. I live on Dominican Republic, will it work on my country fine? 3G and everything? I know that the 3G band matches the one my operator uses, so no problem there.
Thanks in advance.

OP, I'm not actually 100% sure. But, I would imagine that you'd have no trouble using it.
Simple answer is yes.
Thanks for your answers. I ended up buying one on ebay that was cheaper, with the same problem. Only issue is that the auction says bad esn, but i guess that he got that wrong, and means imei. Here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200888137396?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Hope it turns out OK. I took a gamble with it.

Well, yeah, you really are taking one then. Because, IMEIs are for GSM phone and ESNs are for CDMA phones. That posting says T999 with a bad ESN... So, is it a T999 or a CDMA variant of the SIII???
Hope everything works out for you, bro.

Yeah, i know bro. People tend to mistake IMEI with ESN, so hopefuly its one of those cases. If it isn't, i will have to return the phone.

Hi. Just to update. Just got the phone. It was indeed the T999 GSM. I got it to work here without a problem. Just remember to check that the 3G band your carrier uses its supported by the phone, otherwise, you wont have 3G.

nice to know. Will search for it and ship some back home with paying tax for it, of course.
Is ebay the source to buy bad imei?

Hello Luis.
I am considering buying a bad IMEI also for Honduras. Did you had to unlock the phone or something like that or just placed the SIM card and worked fine?

Hi there.
Well, to tell you the truth, i sold the phone as soon as i got it because it wasn't compatible with my carrier's 3G network. I did unlock it, but unlocking was extremely easy, i just rooted the phone and downloaded an app from the Play Store, and the app did the rest of the work. Easy as pie. After that, the phone worked flawless in the small ampunt of time i spent with it (less than a day) and it was a brand new phone :highfive:. If you are wondering the name of the app, i don't know the exact name, but you can try searching "galaxy unlock" on the Play Store, and you will see a couple of apps. Good luck.
Almost same problem

I think that its going to be same, and that its going to work, because the imei was blocked on the country the phone was bought, it should work properly outside that country.
If you have a carrier phone with the IMEI blocked you can unlock it and use it on another carrier. Or you cant? I know u used to could. Also If you call your carrier. for instance tmobile and talk to a superviser they may unlock it for you... They usually do because you're using the phone with their network anyways.. So they still lose money if you decide to go to another carrier.

If your IMEI is blacklisted then the phone has been reported lost or stolen. No US carrier will take a blacklisted phone. Tmobile and att share databases too.

Not always.. Carriers will block the IMEI even you dont pay your bill for so long.. A friend of mine gave me his Sidekick 4G and he stopped paying tmobile. After a while that phone stop working. When I called tmobile they said it was because of the IMEI has been blocked. I said that I have this phone for a long time and you need to turn it back on.. 48 hours later they did
