Hello folks,
I've got a Nexus 5X white/quarz for about 5 months now.
I've used this case from day one. After some time the back of the phone started to change it's color from white to a bright grey. I thought it may be a result of the case so I bought a clear silicone case instead. The contact points of the new case (edges of the phone) are now white again but the rest stays gray
Does anyone have the same problems and got some ideas on how to clear the back appropriately?
I already tried water, sanitizer and some random glasses cleaning cloth but haven't had any luck :crying:
Kind Regards
Same issue, but only from 2 months.
The digit sensor still White but all the rest turn on a grey

Any issues with the phone getting dirty and not being able to remove dirt or stains? I do like the way the white one looks and the grey one seems to attract quite a lot of fingerprints. Just worried about how white will be long term. Not interested in using a case either.
My one seems doing fine so far, but I always use leather case with my phones.

My girl has had a white EVO for over a yr no case. We got rezounds two months ago and gave the EVO to the kids all the crap they get on their filthy little hands and play on the phone there is not one stain anywhere.
Sent from my Rezound running stock/leaked ICS.
the evo has a gloss back though...
different material but i've seen a dirty one x but it will wipe away with alcohol wipes and it look shiny brand new
this was a concern of mine too but I'm using the white one for over a week now and it's like the day one! i think it's quite safe to get the white one and use it without a case

Bad news. I read a post that suggested rubbing alcohol.

no case, and the white is still the same as day 1
Still as bright and white as day one, 4th if April.

Once I had a blue stain on the back, I don't know why it happened. I gave it a good rub and it's white again.
I had a smudge on the back of mine after dropping it once at the gym. I was able to rub it off with my finger. I don't use a case (until the nice ones come out)
Sounds like white is generally fine. Thanks for everyone's input.
I don't want a case to ruin the great body of the One X, but if I get one I think the HTC one seems best.

Go for a full body skin..u won't even notice that its there n will protect the phone from scratches n smudges...

Had mine for two weeks now and no problem (but I use a case). I did read in another thread that window cleaner is great for taking off any stains :/

I got myself a case for it,but even so i still find it a little dirty on the back sometimes but i just clean it with some wet napkins.
You won't need alcohool, just a wet cloth or kleenex will do the trick
There have been some reports of staining that won't come off, but nobody is sure "what" has stained them. The important thing is that you do NOT rub hard on a matte surface otherwise you may change it permanently.
Hey guys, i'm looking for feedback. I had the gray bumper and everything was fine, but i thought the color was too light so i sold it on ebay and bought a black one.
The black one i received from Google is having an issue and i'm trying to see if it's happening to lots of people or if its just me (will determine if i ask for a refund or another one)
The fit is great like it was on the gray one, but on the black one i have, the front lip is losing its coating. There appears to be some kind of matte finish over the plastic and its coming off, giving a very uneven appearance to the front of the case. Obviously, this wouldn't be such a bad thing if it was happening anywhere else on the case. Not only is it annoying to look at, but these little flakes are pulling onto the screen much like dust or dandruff would.
I took a picture to show what i mean. This is the best i could do to show the issue, and it's happening around the entire case.
Hey man, that is definitely not happening to my case. I'm actually a little worried now looking at your pic, I really hope that doesn't begin happening to mine!
I have the same black case too.
If I were you I would exchange for another case.
Good luck!
Having similar issue here with the finish peeling on the power button. Gonna call Google

I called and they are issuing a refund. They dont do it like devices where they'll send you a new one and then you just return the defective one. They didnt give me a hard time. I just explained the issue and they said sure no problem etc... So i ordered another one and i'll see how that goes.
I'm sending my black case back its coating is coming out

About that dust/dandruff thing - Its coming out of your skin/beard. Similar issue - I used scotch tape to remove the dots and then late cleaned the affected areas with nail polish remover (using cotton). Try it, it works!

while i don't doubt what you're saying, i was just using the dust/dandruff thing as an analogy. It's not coming from my skin (and i don't have a beard), its the coating from the bumper peeling off. When it peels off, it looks very much like dust/dandruff and then clings to the screen. Sorry if i wasn't clearer.

Hi all,
I'm wondering if the Nexus 5X's back gets dirty after a few weeks of use.
I found an old thread describing the issue here, but it's an old thread.
Here's an example of back discoloration on the white version:Image.
So, do you have any discoloration problems with your phone (white or black)?
I know I could buy a case but don't want to do that by personal preference.
Thanks!
Yes it does. Carbon black too. Does seem to be more grippy now though so that's a plus. Mine is just 2 areas where my hand tends to hold, but only really visible in certain reflections.
My ice color 5x hasn't got dirty at all.. I spilled oil on my pants and it soaked through onto my phone in my pocket and i thought it would stain but i wiped it off and it was fine.. I got a case now so I'm not even worried about it getting dirty lol
I bought my white Nexus 5X at the day of release last year and the back's color quickly changed from white to some brownish white, especially at the edges. In this forum and on reddit there were lots of other people with the same issue.
I am thinking about buying a new backside on eBay but I'm afraid it will also change it's color after a while. But maybe LG has changed their manufacturing process and fixed this problem? Does anyone know if newer backsides still discolor?
I bought used N5X and the color is kinda "vanilla" white, not "whitey white". So i guess that the color will change Its tone after some time. Could it be "cleaned" somehow? Or can the back be replaced somehow? Thank you.
The back coating actually wears really easily, I saw something where this has been a major issue for all models of the Nexus 5X. I'll search for that link and update this post with it in a bit?

Unfortunately you cannot clean it. It's not dirt but the coating vanishes over time. The back can be replaced quite easily, there are some videos on YouTube that show how it's done.
I have contacted LG and asked about the problem. They told me they had never heard about it At least they offered to send in my phone and get it "repaired" for free. But I won't do that, they will reset the phone and I would have to wait days to get it back. So I just bought a new white back on eBay. Let's see if this new back will discolor as well...
I dont know if my eyes are just completely bugging out or if what im seeing is true. I got my replacement note 7 yesterday and everything went well but then i saw a red/pink tint towards the bottom of the screen i started to freak out but decided that i would let it fly til Monday or so hoping that its just glue or something drying up. Its more noticeable when the screen is on a full white screen or if the bottom/edge part of the screen is white but other than that you can't see it at all.

Sounds like a display issue. My Note 4 had half the screen streaked/covered with a similar color. It was really similar to what the blue-light filter looks like when turned about half way up actually. But it was only on about half the display, and in streaks so was more of a bother because it wasn't the entire screen. I honestly only really noticed it when I was reading my kindle app on my phone with the lights turned off, otherwise it really wasn't very noticeable in normal lighting conditions. Upon reading about this on google this can happen to these kinds of displays that Samsung uses. Might be something to send the phone back for a replacement. I'd really have to see a pic to know enough to know for sure though.
Sounds like a defect. Bound to be a few. Try massaging that area of the screen fairly hard and see if there is any change.

I had that issue on my silver Note 7 and opt to exchange it (after many rounds of persuasion and complaints with at least 3 Samsung technicians). Some see it, some don't. This happened right before the recall.
Thought it was only a random unit of mine, but since you also raised this issue, could be more widespread. FYI, my unit was international version. Also same pinkish hue at the bottom. My replacement unit (before the recall) did not have this issue.
My note 7 recall replacement is not here yet (Samsung announced our replacement only available officially on 29 Sept in my country). I too hope my recalled-replacement will not have the pink hue at the bottom of the screen.
