It seems my N7 2013 is getting around 5 - 6 hours of battery life. Furthermore, sometimes it takes a really long time to charge.
I'm a heavy user and I bought this as a refurb a few years ago. Do I need to change out the battery? Is it a difficult and expensive operation?

Yes if you are running stock (or a stable custom ROM) and getting that battery life if is time to get a new one. Good news is they are under $20 and really easy to install. Go on ifixit and use their guides.
Do you suggest getting one from eBay?

Before replacing the battery, consider a power bank like http://www.mi.com/en/pb5000/ to extend battery life.
I upgraded to Marshmallow and did a factory reset. Everything seems okay now.

Stock battery is definitely underwhelming. Though saying that, this is the best phone I have ever used. The fluidity and smothness of Ice Cream Sandwich makes the phone not even feel like an Android almost.
I don't know if you're planning on rooting, but if you are, this is THE phone to get. Tons of different customizations which will make the battery life on the phone go from 6 hours to 19 hrs and higher depending on the amount of use. Hope this helped.
I've had it for about three weeks and had the 3d. The gnex to me has better everything by using both and feels better. I get 8-14 hours depending on my use this is with the GSM model.

I must be in a weird boat because I don't have any problems with battery life like other people. I charge for about 8 hours a night and when I go to plug it in at the end of the day after about 16 hours off the charger I usually have around 40-60% left.
That's "normal" use though. Some texts and emails, some browsing, 30-45 mins of "Words with Friends", maybe some YouTube videos, a couple 5-10 min calls. Even right now after 7 hours off charger I'm at 80% with 26 mins of screen on. And yes, that's stock everything with 4G on and connected (even in the office where it's always going between some and no signal) and Wi-Fi.
If you are the type to use your phone as a gaming/media device like many of the people who complain about battery life, yes, it probably does suck a bit getting 2-4 hours between charges. But that's a lot to ask of such a tiny battery when you are using it non-stop.

thing is you'll get WAY more info just searching. People have been talking/complaining about battery life for 4 months now.

Battery is pretty awful compared to my last phone: iPhone 4.
But, the problem is solved if you purchase a couple of more batteries and an external battery charger. I just carry a battery with me and keep one in my backpack.
Only had the phone for a week. I find the battery much better than my previous captivate.
These were taken last night before plugging it in.
I'm very impressed. Not a lot of talk time on my phone during the work week though.

Battery life is very good compared to the previous releases. I ran for forty minutes with Bluetooth turned on while listening to tune in radio and using endomondo app. Google now turned on. I lost fifteen percent compared to losing 35% with similar usage. Very satisfied.
What do you think?

Why would you make a thread linking to a post you made in another thread?
Bit unnecessary. To answer the question it's too early for me to thoroughly test battery life.

I would wait for at least 2 complete battery cycles to make a thread like this.

Ditto. My phone ran like a champ on a freshly flashed ROM. Then my phone realized it was born as a Verizon-Nexus mutt and had a psychological breakdown to the point of 1.75 hours of on-screen time the day after.
Twas a sad day
I'm reading my work email over the exchange service account. After upgrde to 4.2 the exchange service process eats my whole battery so I can't tell about any improvement.

When it comes to battery life (in general, though especially true with this newest release), it's crazy how many divergent opinions you get. Some people claim to get amazing battery life (exactly what quantifies for amazing?) and some people claim the battery life is crap. This is just to remind you that unless you have a good way of measuring battery life, your measurements can be plus/minus hour(s). Someone who just leaves their phone on a black screen with no wi-fi and cell may get 10 hours of screen-on time. Someone who is watching videos with cell/wi-fi might only get 2 hours of screen-on time.
In the future, I can make two recommendations:
Always report a complete cycle (from 100% to close to 0%). This is because the battery does not discharge at a constant rate.
Always report screen on time
Average for GNexus in previous builds was 2-4 hours. I've no idea about the plus/minus, but they tend not to be under 2 and over 4 with moderate usage. I think an average of 3-3.5 hours is what most people are happy to report.
And that is really sad because my old atrix used to get over 8 hours on Wi-Fi with over twelve hours of standby time. I wish they would make this phone but with a smaller screen size. The technology used on this phone is not battery efficient at all.

This tells us nothing....u don't show ur screen on time and uve been charging off and on..
Battery life in sleep mode is worse for me. I am losing 3% an hour with the screen off, I used to lose only 3% total overnight with the screen off not per hour. I tested this over the last 4 hours only waking the tablet up long enough to check the battery level and it has gone down by 3% each time. Nothing has changed with any apps or setting since I upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.2. I got concerned when I noticed this morning that my battery was over 15% less then when I went to sleep. Anyone else notice this?
This is very good battery by my standards.

The screen on time is good but not much of an improvement. Also it appears you had WiFi off for most of the time.

I just got mine last week. I think it's well worth the money. third day I had it I had to stay home cuz my kid was sick and got 6 hrs of screen time before I had to recharge. granted I was on Wi-Fi the while time but....
well worth it
I'd get it for backup but I can't think of a good enough reason to need a backup as my battery lasts throughout my work day

My HOX gets 4 hours screen on and 9 hours off charger and that's with auto brightness and screen filter at 60% all day long. I have llama profiles to help with battery and I don't have wakelocks. I think my battery is going soon.
I read through all the comments in the thread about the HOX+ battery being compatible. Something like 72 pages lol. I feel confident of replacing but not sure if I should shell out 35USD on a HOX+ battery. I read of two OE three occurrences where the phone just dies after 4 months and the phone is rendered dead from the usage.
My question goes to those whose had the HOX+ battery in their HOX for a couple of months and whether they've seen improvement or disappointment. Have you faced any troubles? Is it worth the change?
I'm thinking of selling this on swappa and might grab an Optimus G or a GS3 with the extra cash if you guys do not believe it is worth it.
Thanks!

I forgot to mention. I barely use the phone. Most of it is actually flipping through the launcher and texting with no calls. No gaming. Nothing. 4 hours of just texting.

try *#*#4636#*#* if you are ons ense you should get the HTC testing and i believe there is a battery test in there.
last time i did it it said if after the test you have below 80% battery then it needed replaced not sure if that is still correct.
Finally a reply. Do you do this test at full battery? Did you do a replacement

Hey guys
I got my nexus 7 on Christmas day and as you can see in the screenshot its battery life is pretty good
I would have thought that the android os would go down from 11% to about 4-5% but it hasn't, I'm only on my 3rd charge cycle
What do you guys think ?
Jack
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
No.
With your tablet being on for so long (great battery life btw), it was doing literally nothing other than idling. If you were to use it a lot, playing games, reading stuff, etc., it would be down much lower. Don't worry about it.
Thanks

My tablet has suddenly become not as good android is is at 12% and screen on time is 6hours and 20 mins with 28% left
Seems the tablets battery life isn't very consistent?
I use my tablet everyday with the same apps etc

Im not but I'm at 17% left with 7.5 hours on screen time so I guess it's about the same

I had the same inconsistency at the begining, but, later,it becomes more stable. If you will still not be good with the battery life, you can flash a custom kernel. With ElementalX,I have great battery life with stock ROM values.

That's exactly why I got a Nexus - because I knew it would be easy to root and mod, with tons of ROM choices, haha! But I think I get your point - they are great out of the box without a bunch of bloatware. Just got mine and haven't really kept tabs on battery usage yet, but it has been impressive, both stock and on CM11.
