What are you talking about? There are countless apps that do video calling. The stock google one is hangouts, but you can use skpe, or countless others...

I'm talking about using the actual video calling that the AT&T network allows over their LTE network. That's what I'm talking about. It's built into the dialer.

That's never been available on any of the ATT branded HTC devices I've owned. Just VVM and Messages have been integrated in the dialers. What devices did you have video call integrated in? I've had the One Mini, the M8 and M9 all ATT branded.

It was on Samsung. That's why I was wondering about the 10

You're actually talking about VoLTE ir94 which is the video calling standard AT&T rolled out (next generation VoLTE, standard is ir92).
I've spent 4 days tearing down xmls and working hands on with AT&T techs.
AT&T advanced features like VoLTE and HDVoice or Video calling appear to be firmware dependant and not simply plug/play. AT&T branded devices uses AT&T firmware which enables these features.
Now, that being said the firmware could already support this on the HTC 10 Unlocked, it could be an IMEI filter. Currently there is not an answer except that these features do not work.
**If anyone claims to have AT&T HDVoice and VoLTE working on their stock HTC 10 please PM me and send me your build.prop and default.xml from system/customize/ACC/default.xml. I may also need other files, I'll let you know.

In order to validate this I need the following:
Verify you're on AT&T postpaid.
Screenshot of your data settings showing "Enhanced 4G" in Settings>Mobile Data> - should be here -
I need a copy of the following files:
Stock, unaltered build.prop
The entire system/customize/ folder or at least the full contents of: customize/ACC/, customize/CID/, customize/clientid, customize/MNS/, customize/MNSprop
Honestly I thought for sure I had it, even checked my mobile data settings and had the "Enhanced 4G" setting but now it's gone and I can't get it back.
I've managed to edit back in a few settings including "Search for AT&T MicroCell" but can't get the enhanced 4G and my sim verifies it's VoLTE provisioned in the handset (from testing mode).
You'll be helping a bunch of us out if you or anyone can get me unaltered stock files from a working ROM.
EDIT: I may have the solution to fix this already but the files are still appreciated. I'll be testing tonight and report back. For some reason I think some of us aren't getting the default.prop provisioning correctly and it's not enabling the proper RIL features.

Voice over LTE is in the call settings.

Lol I'm aware of this, it should be and as I said i'd swear it was in mine. It was the first thing I verified when I stuck my new SIM in
After unlocking and reflashing back my stock system image I can't get my handset to provision correctly so I no longer have the feature.

Fantastic!
You know how it is, it's not that I needed proof per se, but that is not even where I was looking for the enhanced 4g toggle! (thank you!!)
For some reason my handset doesn't provision properly and it's bugged. You're helping myself and others a ton as we all know I won't be the only one with this issue.

The setting to enable volte toggle is in acc/default.xml. One of the last items under phone is volteEnableImsToggle. Needs to be set to true then reboot. See screen shot below when it's dry to false there is no option to toggle vote.

I owe you several.....
I've spent 2 days pouring over A9 and M9 XMLs, build.prop's looking for the issue.
I've been able to enable other features but not VoLTE. I've tried all various combinations:

not_specified

false

false

true

false

true

Do you happen to know which MNSprop file is the one for ATT? 31060 or 31180?

Yeah, it's cool. I know how it is. You've been working on it and banging your head against the wall and you're rightfully skeptical that we were talking about the same thing.
Screenshot is power+home button (fingerprint scanner).
Are you sure volte is a) enabled on your account and b) that you're in a volte calling area? If it's not enabled on the account, I'm not positive if the toggle will do anything to enable it. Also, to test, I always call my voicemail or some other AT&T number, like 411. If you're in a volte area those calls should ALWAYS go through volte. Also, to further test, go into phone information (*#*#4636#*#*) and set calls for LTE only (see screenshot in my first post). If the call can't go through volte it will just disconnect. That's how you can tell my call in the first message screenshot was volte (call duration would not have gotten to 0:06 - it would have disconnected at 0:00). Don't forget to change this setting back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE when you're done testing or everyone who calls you will get your voicemail if volte isn't working or is unavailable.
Another discovery...volte isn't working on Lee Droid at the moment. I think AT&T uses different telephony.apk than the WWE base uses. Also, I believe you need to be on the 617 (US Unlocked variant) firmware, but I have not tested with the 401 firmware yet (and I won't until there is a full RUU available).
Finally, can you see if call forwarding is working for you? Go into Settings>call>GSM call settings>Call Forwarding. Do numbers show up or do they all stay as disabled? I have found that call forwarding and volte kind of go hand in hand, although on my M9, I have been able to get call forwarding working when volte still would not.

I have no idea about this. A9 and M9 didn't have those files to my knowledge.
On a related note...It could be your sim. Honestly, I know that sounds like classic CSR bs, but it's true. Older sims do not support volte. I got my wife the A9 in november and used her sim from her iphone 5. volte and call forwarding would not work, but she didn't care about that stuff, so I never worried about it. For some reason a few weeks ago, I decided to try and get it working and went to the ATT store and got her a new sim and after one reboot, volte and call forwarding worked immediately.

[TUT] Permanently enable google hangous video calls over 3g/4g/lte

If you going to attempt install it, make phone backup in recovery first.
Your phone must be rooted!
This hack will permanently enable google hangouts video chat over non-wifi networks.
Basically it's the same as all other tutorials with modifying gtalk_vc_wifi_only entry in gservices.db except it enables it permanently.
Enable Video Chat over 3G/4G (GTalkEnabler) works only temporary.
Method 1 - automatic
Install attached modified GTalkEnabler
Method 2 - manual
You'll need SQLite Editor (or any other tool that can edit .db files)
1. open /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db (in SQLite it shows as Google Services Framework)
2. go to overrides (all other tutorials tell you to go to main section, but doing so only works temporary)
3. find gtalk_vc_wifi_only and change value to false. If there is none, then add a new entry
4. save changes and reboot

I've modified original GTalkEnabler (see attachment) so it does the needed changes above and also added options to reboot phone or restart hangouts that doesn't require reboot (hopefully it won't break anything, if you going to try it, make sure you make backup in recovery)

Really? Bootloop after adding an entry into database? - this something new.
It works on CleanROM 4.9 and I find hard to believe that by adding an antry for hangouts in database would make a boot loop.
It must be something you did wrong.

I downloaded some app from the playstore called gtalkvideoenabler (or something similar) that does basically that. This is on gtalk and not hangout, so I dunno if it still applies.

That app modifies entry inside "main" section of that database, so it basically only a temporary solution. After you turn on/off wifi several times you have to use that app again to re-enable it and reboot the phone. Very inconvenient.
Also, worth mention, this restriction doesn't exist on T-Mob network, it's damn ATT blocking it, or making google block it (just tested T-Mob GS3 on with ATT sim and it didn't work, so it's not the phone related restriction).
This worked great for me on the latest Beanstalk.
Works great on rooted stock, 4g and wifi.

But it's safer, you don't need to download any sql editor, and the last time i restarted my phone was probably a few months back. Hardly an inconvenient since my phone is not some laggy POS where I have to restart daily.

True, it is safer, but I disagree about "hardly an inconvenient". See, if you use hangouts a lot it is very unpredictable when it allows you use data connection and when it doesn't. And if you turn on/off wifi several times a day, you'd be restarting your phone several time a day to enable video chat via data connection - IMHO this is beyond inconvenience.
Personally I use hangouts because I don't have to worry about installing/starting other apps (skype), it's already there weather I want it or not and doesn't waste much resources if any. (skype for example uses 0.18% CPU about every other second by just sitting on a background)
Fortunately for us, that app is open source, perhaps someone could figure out how to change it?
No bootloop on CR5.0, although haven't reached anybody successfully yet, nobody online. Hangouts is making call thou where before it would tell me only wifi possible.
I've attached a modified version of GTalkEnabler to the original post, hopefully it will work for these who got bootloops.

Could anybody please test if Calls Recall app (= free) works with Nexus 5x?

Hi,
One of my favorite free apps on my galaxy S4 is "Calls Recall" which allows for automatic recording of all calls in and out without any beeps or fees. I mainly use it to not forget details when calling a store so i don't have to write stuff down.
Now I consider buying the Nexus 5x but would first want to know if that app works on it, so would anybody be so kind to just try it out. It's a simple free install.
To find the app just google "calls recall app" (as new user i can't post external links apparently). Just the regular free version, not the Pro version which you may also find. Just do a phone call with somebody (or let somebody call you) and see if it records fine and how good the quality is of you and the other person. The only special setting (wrench top right) is "record from LINE" on or off. Let me know if this works with LINE on which normally gives better quality on both sides.
Thanks alot to anybody who could test this for me. Maybe the app is also useful to you.
PS. aside from this app, any other (free) call recorder apps you know which record all calls in and out automatically without any annoying beeps or having to pay fees or anything. Thanks again.
Nobody can help with this?
Most people don't use it due to the legal issues that change from place to place. An example is that call recording is legal where my brother lives but not where I do so if he records my call without my permission (before anything is said) then I could have him arrested.

Hello. The app doesn't work. In fact, no recording app works with nexus 5x or 6p, as it does on samsung or lg generic phones. There are some apps which promises you that they work on nexus phones, but the recording is very bad and inconsistent, meaning that sometimes it works (bad), sometimes not at all.

This app actually does works on the Galaxy S4! Can you give the latest version a try on the nexus 5x please and see if it works? That's the only setting you might need to change.

The app works on the s4 because they use the same kernel as they do in the EU devices that has call recording built in. Call recording needs to be added to the kernel.

No Im saying that Samsung has long had call recording built into their version of android. These devices are only released in EU as in the states call recording is on the verge of illegal depending on where you are. As google is a US based company call recording is never built into their kernels. So what Im saying is that if you want it to work on the nexus you will have to make a custom kernel with it enabled.
On the homepage of this apps they say: "Calls Recall supports Android 2.3.4+. It will run if your phone meets this requirement."
So if you have a recent android version it should work apparently.
Nobody here who has a Nexus 5x and could give it a go? It will only take a couple of minutes.

You cant believe those in the least. The first give away is the android version. There was no official 2.3.4 version issued on devices. The only devices that ran that were Asian knock off devices.
You can search for the info and see that it needs to be built into the kernel.
Most here dont mess with call recording due to legal issues.
When using speakerphone during a call, should that allow you to record both sides or not? Just wondering. BTW, where i live recording calls is legal.
Otherwise i guess i'd have to root it. I haven't done this before. I found info about how to root but then you need to install a specific rom for this to work so what do i look for? Thanks again for the help.

Otherwise i guess i'd have to root it. I haven't done this before. I found info about how to root but then you need to install a specific rom for this to work so what do i look for? Thanks again for the help.

It's also not just about where you live. You have to take into account where the person your talking to lives. Like with me. It's legal where my brother is but not where I live so if he records my call I can have him arrested.

I'm pretty sure all he has to do is tell you the conversation is being recorded. Think about the last time you called any customer support. 'this call is being recorded for quality assurance' or some BS.

That depends on where you live. Yes he would have to tell them before the call even starts. Here they cant record any calls so I have to tell them where I live so they stop the recording.

Unless you live in Vermont and probably not even then, if you inform the person they are being recorded you are fine. See below.

Thanks for trying. When on speaker phone, does it record both sides and how is quality?
Also, did you get best result with "record from line" on or off (settings)? Thanks again.

Quality was OK on speaker. My side of the conversation sounded better than the other end though. It simply wouldn't work with record from line enabled.

It says "Failed to record". Was that with line enabled?
Also, i'm not sure if you used the app i was referring to. The interface looks different. To clarify, i was referring to this Calls Recall app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eupheme.callrecorder see also the 2 screenshots below. Is this the app you used as maybe there are different apps with similar names. Thanks again.

Just received my V35 Project Fi edition

I just received my Project Fi V30. It looks like the same model as the unlocked version but I've not confirmed that with anyone since I don't think the unlocked versions outside of Project Fi have shipped yet.
Noticeable things that were easy to see right away.
1. No LG email app
2. No LG dialer, contacts, etc (google dialer, apps)
3. The LG apps I recognize are Smartworld, QuickMemo, Quick Help, Switch, Health, Smartclean
4. Only thing from project Fi is the project Fi app.
5. Always on display is a little different. The screen I use with big numbers and 2 tone colors is rearranged and the font is different
6. option for DTS X 3d Surround (along with Quad DAC as a separate option)
7. Added "wallpaper and themes" in Display options
8. renamed "Smart Settings" to "Context Awareness" in General Settings
So, pretty clean as far as bloatware goes.
Software info
Android 8.0.0
June 1 patch
build OPR1.170623.032
Software Version
V350ULM10c
There were no updates available yet in LG Bridge.
It seems like the UI is a little different than on my old tmobile v30. It is much snappier and less laggy as well. I'll have more info on battery and such once I get to use it a few days.
One thing is blatantly obvious. This is NOT a "google edition" phone like of past. It is all LG. Updates will come directly from LG and it will not be getting updates quickly...ie android 8.0.0 right now. I was hoping...maybe...but...nope.
Had to add a FINALLY!! you can adjust brightness on auto. So you can increase the brightness in a certain lighting situation while leaving it on auto. This was such a pain on my v30 because it was always too dim at night so I would have to take it off of auto mode. Thankfully it has been fixed for v35.
Here is a link for some photos from the v35 vs the v30. The plant images with Mickey mouse have AI enabled. The ones with Mickey with his hands up have AI enabled. (Open info in photos to see which camera is being used. That way you can try see which ones are better without bias) In the dark shot I could not get the V30 to enable super bright mode with AI on no matter what I tried so the picture is really dark. But it gives you an idea of how dark the room really was.

Not that I'm aware of. It is compatible with Sprint since Fi uses Sprint towers. I know they don't use GSM networks. So maybe it would work on verizon. Not sure. What about the unlocked version on Amazon/BHPhoto? Does it list Verizon or just GSM?

anyway to dump the V35 system in case someone bricks their phone?
I have my new LG v35 with Project Fi. Is there anything I can help with to get devs started on creating a way for us to remove all the LG cruft and switch to stock android? I purchased the phone from Project Fi specifically because I thought it would be stock android so currently a lot disappointed. What's a KDZ and can I help get one? Someone mentioned using the LG Mobile Switch application to do something... I'm no dev but point me in the right direction and I'll see if I can accomplish anything.

The PFi version should work with VZW as it's an unlocked phone. It supports GSM/CDMA/LTE so there should be no issue.

Yes, I can confirm that the Project Fi version of the V35 works on Verizon. I took the sim out of my S8+ and it worked in the V35 without issue and signal spy confirmed connection to VZW.
Is anyone else having trouble with WiFi? My phone will not connect to the 2.4ghz band at all. It's fine if I'm close to the router, but if I go to the next room I sometimes get disconnected because it won't switch to the 2.4ghz band. My Note 8 switches fine and always has a strong connection with both bands. So it's not a problem with my router. Does anyone know of a way to force the V35 to only use the 2.4ghz band?
Edit...Now it's working. I didn't do anything to fix it. I did get an update from at&t last night, maybe that had something to do with the wifi.

So I have the V35 from AT&T but unlocked it to use for TMobile. Is there an unlocked stock firmware I can download and use so I can get back some functionality that AT&T's crapware is depriving me?

I am on TMobile and have vvm in Google dialer. I had to install the Google dialer as a system app to get it to work. I also uninstalled the stock dialer. Not sure if that matters. And I changed the flags to true in the dialer_phenotype_flags.xml for voicemaill.

Here is the xml file. Unzip it and copy it to /data/data/com.google.android.dialer/shared_prefs
It has the flags set for vvm and call screening. Call screening doesn't work properly though. The caller can't hear the Google ai. Still trying to figure that out.
And yes, new voice mails show up and get transcribed. And I'm on T-Mobile, not Verizon.

Question Does OP 9 pro VoLTE work with ATT in the USA?

Can anyone verify whether OnePlus 9 Pro is working on the ATT network with VoLTE?
I considering purchasing the phone and installing a custom ROM (e/os), but I know that sometimes VoLTE cannot be enabled and depends on multiple factors. If someone has experience, please share, it could save me a hassle.

I have. A bunch.
Most of the hits I got are not relevant to me and relate to a problem in Germany a couple years ago, that was caused by the service provider, not the phone.
The phone is definitely capable of VoLTE, but that doesn't mean it will work with a custom ROM on any service provider.
I currently have a Samsung Note 10 plus that I spent weeks configuring with a custom ROM, only to discover VoLTE can only be enabled with Samsung's ROM. So it's basically useless. I'm trying to avoid repeating a painful experience.

Nope.....
With OOS 11 and OOS 13 VOLTE works on AT&T Cellular in the US.
I can't answer for custom roms, but if the APN is setup correctly, it should work also.
The hardware in the OnePlus 9 Pro is capable of VOLTE on the AT&T Cellular Network in the US.

Seems promising.
But it's not a full guarantee. I have a Samsung note 10 plus that I installed a custom ROM and it didn't work, despite it being capable of VoLTE. Apparently their code is proprietary and difficult to reverse engineer, so none of the opensource ROM's can actually use the VoLTE on the phone.
That's why I decided to start this thread, so I don't get a phone that is non-functional.
Thanks for your reply though.

Their APN is not proprietary.
If you Google the cellular APN settings for a smartphone on the AT&T Cellular network, you will find what the correct settings are.
You can modify them yourself in the settings of the OS.
The hardware of the smartphone has to have a radio capable of working on the CORRECT CELLULAR CHANNELS in order for this to work.
AT&T does not use the same cellular channels as everyone else.
So before you buy any device, you need to do your research.
If it works on 4G LTE or 5GE, using the correct radio frequencies, and the correct APN settings, then VOLTE should work also.
If you are trying to get real 5G, then there are only a handful of devices that work on AT&T.

I did a bad job of communicating. I apologize if I'm using the wrong terminology. I was not referring to the APN settings being proprietary, but instead the ability of the firmware to make the hardware feature usable is proprietary.
I know this because I have 2 Samsung note 10 plus phones. One with the original firmware and one with the custom ROM. They have similar settings. But with the custom ROM when I go to the place where the VoLTE should be, there is no "switch" to set. Whereas with the original Samsung, it's there and I can switch it on.

This article above was the eye opener for me. When I realized there was no fix.
And yes, I am aware that ATT has a list of compatible devices, with specific model numbers. I was good there.
Cellular devices are no different then computers and WiFi. Driver support is where the translation is made and your connection exists.
Support and Development relationships are extremely important for devices to work properly.

That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks!
Any chance you have a custom ROM installed as well?

Obviously a different carrier and country, but when I was with Bell (Canada) the OxygenOS 12 update enabled VoLTE and VoWiFi on my 9 Pro, and then once Lineage 19.1 was released with the binaries from OOS12 it also worked with Lineage.

That's promising though.
Yes, but only the LE2125, no other version works on AT&T.
Head to the OnePlus section:

Edit: And to be more specific, you cannot hack your non LE2125 device to get VoLTE on the AT&T network, as they rely on an IMEI whitelist, meaning they only whitelisted NA/Global devices and nothing else. If you're lucky you could go to an AT&T store and have them temporarily (temporarily unless you remove your SIM from your phone) whitelist your IMEI as an LE2125. Not certain however. Custom ROMs should work, as your IMEI is the same as on OOS.

Yeah, I see that ATT has a compatible list and that is the only model. Good reminder.
