Hello,
My Note 4 suddenly did not turn on (hard brick). I received a new device but had two worries (could not reset the old device, could not transfer from it).
Many of my apps autoloaded on the new Note (thanks Android). Pictures, videos, recordings, and screenshots on internal memory were gone and so were old text messages and voicemails. Is there no chance Android/Google stored this automatically somewhere? How do I check?
Why are pending text messages or voicemails not shown? How would I know who tried to contact me in the weeks that the old phone is broken?
In the future I'll save everything (pictures etc...) to the external SD. Can I do daily auto-backups with SMS Backup & Restore for texts? What about voicemails? Is there no way to prevent texts in transit from getting deleted - if my phone doesn't work how can I save texts I've never seen or read??
Thank you.
If you have set up a Samsung account on your phone it will back up sms mms every 24 hours but only on wifi. As far as voicemail if you use the stock voicemail app you can have it set up to forward all voicemails to your email address. From there you can listen to them through your email account.

I have a problem
My SMS inbox total is 6867
My SMS sent items total is 7230
Im running a Dopod P800W (HTC3300) and Windows Mobile 5
Is there are limit to SMS counts ?
When I restart my phone, my SMS in my Inbox "forgets" all the SMS for that day as if I received none. Same applies for my sent items folder.
As long as I restart my phone, I would lose all the incoming SMS for that day and regardless how many times I restart, it would reset to that amount.
Sometimes, I get lucky and it "remembers" the SMS's but another restart would just delete them all. Its as if changes to the SMS database are not saved.
I have all the SMS's but newer SMS's are not remembered from yesterday onwards.
Any idea?
I think it's an annoying BUG as I have the same issue..
the work around is to make sure the message application is closed when you have finished with it as this sort of saves them...It would seem that if it's running when you restart/reboot phone it looses all unsaved messages so new messages must be seen as unsaved some how.
hope that helps..

what i managed to find out that a few SMS messages were bugged when I deleted them from the Deleted Items list
this was a few days ago..
I restored using SPB Backup to a date BEFORE deleting those messages and choose not to delete them (for the sake of this bug)
So after a few tests and restarts, I dont have this problem anymore
Looks like I have 2 leave these messages in the Inbox
I have had the same problem, but now, I cant save any thing and every time I receive a text message my ppc restarts after a while.
this happened after I deleted a message from the deleted items folder
(i have 13000 text messages in my inbox and 14000 in my sent items)
what should i do?
hei , this thread is still around
anyways, i did the same thing which got me into this problem
i cant really remember but it was to do with a corrupted SMS in the deleted items folder
the thing is that deleted SMS in the deleted items cannot be deleted forever so i decided not to delete it but just move it back into the inbox (13001/14000) and it worked again
Wow.. thanks jcsy... I did the same thing too
1. Identified the SMS that is bugged (somehow, this SMS appeared multiple times) which I deleted previously
2. Restored it from the deleted folder back into my Inbox
3. Restarted my PDA
Voila! It doesn't give any more errors.... my SMS are all in tact!
The question now is - would this 'bugged' SMS harm anything in our phone? Is it a virus?
i think its an SMS which should be corrupted somehow in the database since its a big one, which we maintain
thousands of SMS's
well, i didnt bother about it and now all my SMS continues to save as normal
glade that solved your problem
but ive got a new problem now instead, which is killing me...
Is there a way to save then reinstall the call log? Can someone tell me the location of the Call Log or Call History file / directory? I'm installing a different ROM and want to save it. What about saving SMS's. Where are they stored?
There are apps for both of those, I've seen them on the market but I'm not sure of the names
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
I use Mobile Backup 2 to back up my sms & call log. I have over 6000 texts that I backup (most are from my son in the Army - when I start missing him too badly I go back and re-read them). This works great to restore.
If you use Handcent for your messaging MB2 will restore your messages backwards (oldest on top) but the stock messenger is perfect.
Check out SMS Backup + it backs up SMS, MMS and call logs to your gmail account. You can also restore SMS and call logs to a new ROM but not MMS. You can set it up to continuously back up either hourly or daily or just on demand.
Be careful on your initial backup though, it only does the first 100 messages per contact, so run the backup, delete the messages it backed up, then run the backup again and repeat, continuing the process until everything is backed up. After that it will work smoothly. It's also great because you can delete SMS from your phone which take up a surprisingly large chunk of internal storage.

Hey guys,
I want to transfer all my txt logs on to my computer so that I can make a copy of some of them. Any idea how to do this?
I am using stock txt app.
Thanks
Try searching the market for an application to do that.

SMS Backup + backs them up to Gmail
I took advantage of the option to port my sprint number to Google Voice. I have no complaints at all. It works flawless for me. I know there were some mixed reviews about it, but I like the fact that all call logs, text messages, voicemails are all stored online automatically. I archive them the same way as I do my gmail. And they are easily searchable. I also use the Chrome plugin that throws my inbox into my browser where I can text from from a dropdown rather than use my phone when I'm at home. But, it's all preference.

Did you use your sprint number or google voice? I'm doing the exact same thing as you but sometimes my google voice texts aren't pushed to my phone
So, with the death of MyPhone I'm looking for an alternative way to sync/archive/delete SMS messages from my phone easily. Since the phone slows to nothing with too many SMS messages on it I loved how I could go into MyPhone and easily delete messages from contacts I didn't care about (twitter, short codes, etc) and archive the ones I wanted to save but not keep on the phone.
Any suggestions to replace this functionality? I've found the BestBuy M:IQ works pretty good for everything else but this.
I use the native Samsung Messages text app that came with the Fold 3 (can't use Google Messages even if I wanted to because it doesn't show a bunch of past texts from my previous phone that I need access to). For the past week or two, a few contacts who also use RCS Chat texting have the blue/green dots on the Contacts list in the app, but not on the Conversation list, and it won't send Chat texts, only SMS/MMS, to them. But, their texts often come to me as Chat texts. This app has no way to toggle Chat on/off to reset it, but neither Airplane Mode nor restarting my phone (including after the T-mobile update with the eSIM/dual-SIM additions) fixed the problem.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a way to fix it from my end? Or is it a Google server issue (it began with one of those times everyone's dot flashes off and then back on when you tap on them)? I know the person uses Google Messages because they don't have a Samsung phone (I think they have an LG). It is pretty important for one contact it isn’t working for to see if/when they read their texts. (Thankfully, for the other important one, theirs is working, and that's a Google Pixel phone.)
Anyone have an answer or also have this problem?
