I just noticed it this morning, but misspelled words are no longer being underlined red. Doesn't matter what app I'm in. I just updated to the May update yesterday, and it seems like that's when it started. I'm using the Google keyboard. Anyone seen having this issue?

Have you by any chance switched off the spell checker in Settings>Language & Input> Spell Checker ?

Nope. It's activated. Some additional testing has shown that it's working in the stock SMS app but not in e.g. Inbox, Google Keep, or chrome.
Edit: underlining works in Gmail but not in Inbox.

I have tried typing in Keep and red text dont appear there. Tried opera and dolphin and they dont have that either. So may be it depends on the app you are using. Just my two cents though

Thanks for the info. It looks like an issue with ICS on ION. Maybe the update will fix it.

Confirmed on stock official at&t ROM. If a video call is ended before the other person answers phone stops responding and has to be powered down. My Nexus 7 does not appear to have the same issue though so let's hope the update comes soon.

I hate this new app. It's sluggish, resource hungry and overall adds nothing to good old Gtalk.
I have rolled out the update and will never install it again.

Aye, me too. But I'm afraid soon Google will force us to migrate to it...just like "Google Settings" appeared in the app drawer without asking for it, Hangouts is gonna replace Talk. :-/

Hangouts has already replaced talk, and I personally think it's loads better, if only more people used it I would definitely consider it a possible whatsapp replacement.
I don't have any issues with the app as some of you have experienced. (xperia s with jb .197)
The real question is, what will happen to g+ messenger? As we now have 2 messaging apps from Google.

It has replaced it, yeah, but you can still use the old Gtalk if you want.
G+ messenger will be gone with the new G+ update.
I used google talk a lot for work, so was kind of worried about this change overall...as i don't use G+ for anything (nor fb for that matter), but also liked how google talk on my phone, and gmail's browser conversation thing sync'd easily...
as far as the android hangouts app, whatever...it works, didn't really care what it looked like...but i will say the chrome extension for hangouts is much better than how gmail integrated. I can now have any number of my work/home machines connected to hangouts without having gmail opened. Not sure if this is how G+ worked before, as I wasn't going to bother using that.
I'm still learning it...but also prefer how hangouts doesn't seem to be archived into gmail automatically...you can set it up to do that, but it doesn't just default to dumping a pointless 3 line conversation into 'all mail'...I know you were able to change all that with google talk, just didn't feel like messing with it.
So whatever in my case...its definitely not worse for me. The bigger problem still is, and always will be, the trends of what people use. I still get numerous fb messages a week despite it being obvious that i'm never on there...then border line threats for ignoring someone haha.
Enjoy people, working perfectly on my Note 3 and my wife's S3

Yeah, unfortunately, I concur. I also was planning for this to be a more unified client than it is. Instead of merging the hangouts and SMS threads it keeps them separate. I was expecting it to be like the iMessage client for iOS: Data message unless the recipient doesn't have the app or you have no data connection, SMS for the rest

Had the same problem. Once I installed all the other apps from the N5 from droid life the problem went away. May had something to do with the update of play services or launcher

Come on folks, obviously the new Google apps are making use of the API's in 4.4 that aren't going to work properly on 4.3. This is the reason even something like Maps has different current versions floating around depending what you're running. There's going to be bugs just side loading this from a system image especially for a new app like hangouts that's now being deeply integrated into the system in 4.4.

I'm sure we're all quite aware of that. Thank you for pointing out blatantly obvious things.
No one here is saying "WTF Google why you no make teh hangoutz werk for mah Note before official release?! "
We're merely conversing, seeing if these problems are shared by all, or just some. So pump the brakes and cool your jets.
The simple fact it works
Flawlessly on my wife's Galaxy S3 and not my Note 3 makes me curious and eager to see if there are tweaks on our end that can nudge the software into a happy place.
That being said, constructive and helpful people who manage to find workarounds or anything helpful to get their MMS working without crashing the app, hop in and share!

I wonder what the problem really is because mms works perfectly fine on my note 2 with 4.2.1
I have updated the play services and hangouts ....won't work with this note 3 though
Today while talking to my sister in law messages just stopped showing up in the messages application but they still show up as a notification so I know they are coming, and any that i send do not show in the app either.
I rebooted the phone and still has the same issue.
I'm running a cyanogen mod oct 29th nightly from last week, i was thinking of installing a newer update but wanted to check if that would be the only option
slight update
I tried some alternate messaging apps and still the same issue with those as well
Bump,
I really need help
Umhh it IS a nightly and could simply be a bug. Check your spam/rejected list or settings in your messaging app and make sure you didn't enable a global rule.

Well i found the problem and a very very stupid one at that,
time got messed up on my phone, the messages are there but showing up out of order.
Ok, so ever since kit kat update, the stock email app has become completely useless. The drag and drop feature has been removed and now I cannot delete not move my emails.
My question is what alternatives are worth looking into. I'm dabbling with Aquamail, but it is so focused on multiple accounts that it's features are driving me crazy. Is there anything out there that can match the old stock email app or should I give up on managing my email on my tablet?

Woops, I never got notified of this post. My issue with the notification settings was that K9 would never do bulk notifications, only notifications for each and every single email, which drove me nuts.

Textra is the best app out there IMO. Send and receives pictures like a phone is supposed to (actually shows each picture as opposed to a Slideshow) has delay sending, and many other features. Fair warning though they are moving from a free app to paid. But totally worth it in every way.
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app
Textra or Google Messenger I think are the two best.
I ended up sticking with Google Messenger because Textra seemed to have trouble with different DPI's which I found a little weird. I think it has a few extra features that make it better the GM if that's not an issue for you.
Agreed. Textra is awesome. I love using the "giphy" attachments.
Though I'm content with the stock messaging app, if I wasn't using it I'd be used Google Messenger. It's nice and clean and I actually like its simplicity
