What is this icon - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

Can someone please tell me what is this icon for. It keeps randomly popping up on my status bar.

google search says rocket video

It generally means you are connected to something streaming. It's on when I am connected to Bluetooth in the car listening to music or when I'm connected to my chromecast watching videos.

Oh ok, thank you. Is there a way to turn off the notification in my status bar?

I'm not really sure, but doubtful. It may just be a matter of disabling notifications of the app the is responsible for streaming anything.
But the real question might be why it's even popping up at all if you're not streaming anything. Do you wireless stream anything?

I dont stream at all. It randomly pop's up throughout the day. When I wake my phone up it will pop up after about 5 minutes of using my phone. .

Do you leave Bluetooth on your phone on all the time?

Only when I have my gear circle or my gear s connected otherwise its off.

i get it when I am watching netflix and am streaming the signal to my TV via my Chromecast so I think it is something to do with attaching your phone to different devices

I'll dig deeper, thanks

I see that icon come up sometimes, but it's when I'm trying to play a video and it's bigger, and in the middle of the screen. Ever since I installed "Crazy Helium Booth", an app I've used successfully (and with much laughter), on other models, It's messed up my video playback. I'd try to play the video and all it would do is play the audio part of it, but the entire screen would be black with a dark grey larger version of the icon you've described, which I'm pretty sure is a "casting" icon, though I haven't an inkling (sp?) as to why it would come up when I'm not trying or wanting to stream the damn thing, and even if I was, why does the audio still come through the -phone's- speaker?

Caution.... after closer inspection my phone was casting to someone through spyware.

Chromecast Icon Disappearing???? !!!

Hello everyone
To whom it may concern:
My name is Jé and I am having issues with this Chromecast. I was able to successfully set it up and begin streaming videos successfully via YouTube and Google Play Video( I rented a movie to try it out). I do not recall if this issue occurred on the YouTube video but upon casting a video from my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 to my T.V it plays just fine, as with YouTube I was able to hit my home screen and send texts, etc and the Cast window still be in my notifications panel.
Well I got a phone call and went to answer it and the Chromecast window disappeared . I tried going into Google Play and even the Chromecast application and got nothing….I even restarted my phone and the movie was still PLAYING!...o and I was OFF Wi-Fi! My device said Wi-Fi was on but my data was coming from 4G LTE!
Again the movie still played with no hiccups or nothing even when I restarted my cellphone and played just fine when I accepted the phone call.
I had to unplug it from the back of my T.V, re connect it, and then go back into it works just fine I scrub to where I was and again after a short while the cast icon disappears but the movie is still playing and the phone drops from Wi-Fi. I even turned Wi-Fi off this time and it still played just fine! This is weird! I put a call into Google but to no avail.
I was wondering if anyone else experienced this issue. Why does the icon go away? How was it even working with me being off Wi-Fi ?

You have to be using WiFi to see and control Chromecast. After it starts playing a selection it is NOT using your phone any more.
You are not streaming from your phone to Chromecast. Once you send the program you want to view to YouTube, Google Movie etc... the Chromecast gets the URL for the item and then plays the item using its own connection to the network the WiFi you set up for it.
You can turn off your phone and it will not have any effect on what is playing since it is not using your phone to play the item.
When you got a call, your WiFi on you Phone must have been turned off, but the Chromecast is playing the movie on its own and doesn't need you phone).
To talk back to the Chromecast from your phone you have to have WiFi turned back on, and then send another program to the Chromecast.
You might look into a beta app called RemoteCast https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benlc.camcast
This will allow you to control Chromecast when it is playing something even if the phone didn't start the playing.

Googles support team just wrote me back saying this, I will try this the next time I cast from my device :
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Google. It was my pleasure speaking with you about your Chromecast device. With the issues that happened while watching the movie on Google Play, I have a quick question. Do you have battery saving mode on your phone? If so, please disable the battery saving mode.
The Battery Saver feature can be found under Apps > Settings > General Tab > Battery

Music controls card not showing up

I've only had the watch for a day now, but it's pretty cool so far! But I was listening to music this morning through a streaming app (Music Unlimited), and when I started I saw the notification pop up at the bottom of the screen letting me know the track name - cool. A couple minutes later after changing absolutely nothing, the notification card changed to the track name and a play button. This new notification also allowed me to swipe left to see the full music control card (forward, back, volume up and down) which was super awesome! Sadly I swiped right on the card and dismissed it by accident, and it never came back... I restarted the phone, the watch, and the app a few times but nothing changed (I only see the notification with no play button).
Now I know that maybe the music control card should only work for the stock music player at this early stage, but it's pretty frustrating for it to be there and then suddenly gone for the streaming player. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this happen and if anyone knows how to get it back?
in poweramp I had to enable android lock screen (in poweramp settings) to make the card appear . maybe you've got similar option in this player
Thanks for the idea, but lock screen controls are on by default in this app, and that functionality is still working fine on the phone. Weirder still is that there's also a notification bar on the phone that let's you control the music which you would've thought would transfer to the watch for sure since it gets all notifications...

Ok so I've found out that Wear Music Controller will work for this app even though it isn't listed as supported, lucky! It also lists a pretty compete set of supported music apps so maybe it'll help someone else too. Seems like this will control any music playing on your phone...
I still consider this a very temporary fix though because it's not a very nice looking controller design compared to the built in one I was trying to get back, but I'm glad I found something in the meantime! Looking forward to hearing other people's solutions.
Edit:
WOW, so frustrating and confusing! It just came back for 30sec...it was there, working, then watch went into ambient mode and it was gone again...

Adaptive Battery Killing Chromecast Connection?

I keep having regular Chromecast issues since upgrading to Android Pie. What it does is if I'm connected, playing audio to any of my Google Homes or even the Chromecast on my TV, is it will become disconnected. For example this morning I was trying to play a podcast from Pocketcasts to my Google Home in my kitchen and it had trouble connecting at first and then kept disconnecting. It would continue to play on the Google Home but when looked at my phone it shows it stopped playing, was now out of sync and I could no longer control it (pause/play). I did a second fresh install of Pie but still having the same issues. Someone told me it was the battery monitoring stopping stuff in the background and killing my Chromecast connection. I turned off adaptive battery and it seems better. Is there just a way to tell it not to close certain apps?
I cast Hulu and MLB at Bat to ChromeCast Ultra / TV, and Play Music to two Home Max & three Mini many hours of the day with few issues. I very rarely get errors from Hulu, but it is there servers giving Hulu error codes.

You may want to leave adaptive battery on and try to exclude your audio player from battery optimization.

I know how to do that for an app but is there a way to stop it from stopping Chromecast itself from being "optimized". Because I think it's still stopping the Chromecast connection even if I stop it for try specific app.

Go to settings/type in battery optimization on the top search bar. Look for the app you want to un-optimize, and turn it off :good:

AFAIK there is no 'chromecast' application per se. Your phone tells the Chromecast where to get the stream, then the Chromecast and the source are directly connected. Sometimes the initiating app gets shut down and when you relaunch it there is a reconnection to the Chromecast to get stream state, but if you reboot your phone the Chromecast won't stop playing.

Ok. I think I'll just keep adaptive battery off for now because it's been messing up a ton of my apps. I cast numerous audio and video apps. Too bad. But thanks for the help. Hopefully it works. ?

Makes sense. What I said about the Chromecast isn't the case with all apps though, so if you're streaming Spotify or some other background media that isn't through Chromecast it might get shut down unless excepted.

Odd bluetooth behavior since updatin to android 9

I've been experience a few issues with the new update. One of them, which is more a nuisance than anything, is my bluetooth connection to my car. It's a 2015 Mustang with MyFord Touch. The phone is a galaxy S8+. About 1/3 of the time when I start the car, the phone shows up named a bunch of random characters, instead of Galaxy S8+. Not a huge deal. My music player starts automatically (even if I close it, and kill the process). The thing that's weird is that the audio is kind of hollow sounding when it starts up UNTIL I turn on the phones display, then it kicks into a fuller sound. It's never done this before. Not only that, but it decides when it wants to display track information from Samsung music player only a small portion of the time.
If I'm playing music through Amazon Music, it updates the track information, no problem. If I switch to Samsung's music player, it just displays the last track I played on Amazon music, and never changes. If I start the car with the music player going, it won't update track information until it gets to the next song, and even that is spotty.
Aside from these issues, and the issues I'm having with the default browser, I think it's a pretty good update. But this music thing is really bugging me. For the record, I've tried rebooting the phone. I've tried changing through the AVRCP versions in the developer options, I've toggled Dolby Atmos on and off, changed the sample rate, channels, etc. Nothing seems to be affecting this problem.
On a side note, how do I close the music player so it doesn't automatically start playing when connected to bluetooth?
Thanks in advance. If this doesn't belong here, let me know.

Did you ever try to update your car's firmware or going to your dealer and ask for it? I think it's because Android 9 is "too new" for your car
I updated to the latest firmware about 6 months ago. No new updates since then. It would be kinda bogus if android 9 made a 4 year old car obsolete, but i suppose it's possible.

It could be possible that you have to expect for a new car firmware or ask to your device forum if anyone else have your same problem with android auto
Good call. I'll pop the question over to my mustang forum. Thanks.

Question Audio switch alternative?

Hello I recently updated to oos13 and it looks like the audio switch which allowed us to change the output got nixed. Anyone have an alternative or am I missing something.
I just want to be able to keep all my Bluetooth devices connected but switch to output audio from my phone.
I miss being able to click the volume then select output when I needed to change it.
Hey, it is still available from the little square of the music playing in the notifications dropdown, you can change it from there. I discovered this by chance!
Wow you're a savior here. I've spent hours looking for this as a setting but that tile just blends together I didn't even think to push it. Even the OnePlus community forums said it was gone. Still would be better back in the volume UI but I can settle for this.

So it turns out this is only an option for media that pops into the tiles. Ie can't switch audio if I'm playing a game. So although a partial success it's not the same feature they took away
