Replacement Screen - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dropped my g4 last week and smashed the screen and the LCD is messed up to. I bought a replacement from ebay but the right half of the screen is not responding to touch straight away and colour is pretty bad compared to the original.
Does anyone know where i can get an lg branded screen as a replacement in the UK or can recommend a good generic replacement?
Thanks

I would suggest going to a repair shop and asking them to sell you a screen but amazon is great just make sure you read reviews of the product first

Thanks i found one, that wasn't to much more than i paid for the generic one.

very expensive though :S
For that price your better off selling yours on ebay and purchasing a new one for yourself that you know will last......
you could try contacting samsung, it could work out cheaper.
this is why i have insurance. while i rarely drop my phone, it does happen. it hasnt yet, but i know i probably wouldnt spend 300 on a new screen. for that i could buy a different 4g phone off contract.... id go and sell my broken nexus.
Some of us here who purchased in the grey market obviously can't get our phones insured. Easier said than done.

What do you mean by grey market? like craigslist? and thats why i said id by another phone, its a sly way of saying that the screen costs more then some of the current 4g phones do. You could literally buy a Razr off of craigslist for 280... http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/mob/2770665120.html
I realize the ability to customize the phone is nice, but not at the expense of a small fortune. if you bought it off contract in the first place that at least what 5, $600 already down, then if you replace screen your in it for $900. Buy a razr or the thunderbolt ... or something, then wait a couple months for the next greatest phone to come out and the price of the parts will come down then the screen can be replaced for cheaper.

Seems like the eBay one is an LCD, not Super AMOLED.
That one in the ebay link has the lcd also, which is why it's so expensive. As soon as the digitizers start being sold by themselves (glass screen only), it will be much cheaper.

When they say it's a LCD, it was referring to the actual part of the phone, the "Screen", and not that the screen is using the LCD technology, the galaxy nexus is only available with HD Super Amoled technology for the screen, unlike the Nexus s that has both Super Clear LCD (i9023) or Super Amoled (i9020), if that what you are referring to.

I think it's the same with all Amoled technology, the screen and digitizer are only sold as one, they cannot be purchased separately.

The glass and lcd are fused together. In order to replace one, you have to replace them both.
No pics? Forum rules clearly state that if your going to post that you have a broken screen, you must also post an accompanying picture for proof of the incident and to satisfy those of us that take pleasure in others pain
all joking aside, i hope you are able to resolve this with minimal damage to your wallet (and ego)
this also makes me happy i bought the insurance option from best buy, though i never had to use it for the incredible, i like the idea of no deducible if this were to happen to me.
My screen is broken aswell (from the inside..) so the glass is still silky smooth on the outside.. and the whole screen is black and i can see 5 veins of broken glass on the right hand side of the phone.
But one thought that ive had is.. the 4G and the 3G versions are very different, seen from the back, will this be an issue if i buy a new screen on ebay?
could check out these guys but i dont know how expensive it is

i found this https://www.gounlock.com/details.php?itemId=7607 much cheaper
I'm on Verizon and I got my Nexus for Christmas.. All of a sudden it started getting this massive crack without dropping it and it's normally the only thing in my pocket. Anyways, I called Verizon and (kindly/politely) asked them if I could add insurance late. It took a while, but it eventually got done. I then paid Insurion a $100 deductible (and will pay $6/month for continuous coverage) and then sent me a brand new phone (with free battery and charger). Granted, I still had to pay $100 and will keep paying per month, but at least my phone will be safe from the little things and $100 is small compared to the other option.
tl;dr: Call Verizon, kindly persist and ask for Insurion late, get new phone

Display screen digitizer + LCD repalcement. HELP!!!

Hi sorry to bother I'm looking for a replacement of the whole display screen digitizer + LCD.
Does anybody can recommend a good one.
I've been searching on amazon but mayority of people complain about that the digitizer stop working on the repalcement after a while.
Any help appreciated.
There really isn't any "good one". If you want one that works, get an OEM one made by HTC.
Hey,
I think this might help you!
http://compare.ebay.com/like/290659299424?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y
Of course the higher you go the quality will probably be better but for $15 with free shipping I dont think you can go wrong if the first place, if it does not last long just order a new one!
If you have TEP you are better off getting it replaced by sprint for a new phone.
Good luck!
If I helped please hit that thanks button!
Stevo
I found a used OEM front panel (LCD & digitizer) in good shape on ebay shipped for $50. The guys at my sprint store are cool and installed it for me. That's half what asurion gets and you keep your software setup

There are two different LCD connectors, a wipe one and a "normal" one. The ONLY way to see what one your phone has is to open it up.

Replacing plastic

Hey guys,
I bought a S2 damaged from several falls. I want to replace the plastic myself. The screen itself is fine and so is the battery cover but I would need to replace the plastic around the loudspeaker and the silver rim, which is badly damaged.
Is it possible to replace this yourself? If so could someone link me to a reliable site to buy the replacements. I live in Slovenia (Part of EU) so shipping shouldn't be a problem.
Also any tips wouldn't hurt!
Thanks!
You should know by now that shipping is always a problem here even if we are in the EU because some people still don't consider us as a first world country so they simply don't send stuff to us.
To answer your question... Did you check Amazon and Ebay? You can also find a service manual if you search for it. It was posted here once or twice.

Exactly wht came to my mind
Why does that matter? It's obvious he got it at a a much more decent price than he would a new one. Be sure to check on your warranty before disassembling the device. Odds are you'd lose it. Perhaps you could try and get it repaired by an authorised person, for all we know, it could be at a modest price too.

Looking for a new lcd

So, I'm looking for a new LCD for my recently acquired gnex. Everything on it is working perfect except the lcd has what looks almost like damage from a magnet in the bottom right corner. I've looked around a little bit but can't find any for less than almost 200 usd. That's more than I paid for the phone and I refuse to pay that much for a single part. Does anyone here know where I should look?

E-bay has always been cheapest on spare parts when I repair phones.
If it's still too expensive, either by another ruined gnex, where the LCD is intact, or sell yours as damaged and buy a new device.

I have the Sprint version, and to my knowledge the screen and LCD are fused (glued really good) together, so I had to replace the whole assembly. So yeah, may not help you, but good luck though!

Sad day, cracked screen.

Well, sad day today. A golf ball landed on my galaxy s3's screen. Needless to say, golf ball > galaxy s3.
Called customer service to see how much it is to be replaced, and with my insurance, its a big 166$. Ridiculous.
EDIT:
My brother works at a Radio shack, and they'll fix it for like 100$.
Has anyone used Radio shack before to get a screen replacement? If so, how long did it take, and did they do a goob job?
feet taiserva
Purchase the replacement screen on eBay, watch a video on youtube on the screen replacement. It's easier than you think and wouldn't cost much at all. If your opposed to that I would trust them, it's not difficult.

The 100$ is what my brother said, after looking online it actually ends up to being 329$.
I'm thinking I'll let T-Mobile do it... I don't want to risk destroying it myself..
Kind of sucks though, a golf ball dropped and cracked it as bad as it did, it's at the bottom, like right on the home button, but the crack went to nearly the top of the screen.
Did you check eBay?? I would think they were way under $100 for the screen.

Well I checked Amazon, I have Amazon Prime for free for being a student.. and they are around $15-20.
I just don't want to take the chance that i make it worse than it already is... I'm not good at all at doing things like that, I'd rather it be done by someone who knows what they are doing.
Also, they said I could use a phone from the T-Mobile store until mine is replaced, which is pretty cool..
Understandable you don't want to make it worse than it already is. Try looking for places in your local area, there are repair shops that fix phones and video game systems for a fraction of the cost. Some times on Groupon they have Groupons for say $60 for a screen replacement, that's always another option you could check out.

Yea, I will look around.. But I do like that I can take it to T-Mobile, and they will loan me a phone while it's being fixed. I'll have to odin it back to stock though. Oh well.
Thanks for the input!
Can't hurt to check around. Anytime!
Ontop of having Radio Shack doing it...it will void your warranty...to keep your warranty either have T-Mobile or Samsung fix it.

Well I called the insurance company this morning. They said $150, and that my replacement phone will be here tomorrow.
All is well, atleast it still works so I can use it until the new one comes tomorrow. Glad im getting a new one as well, instead of just getting this one fixed and sent back.
Thanks for feedback guys! :victory:
Well, as new as a refurbished phone can get. Any replacement/warranty phone that congress from tmobile is most likely going to be refurbished. I know because I have one and I'm very nit picky about my phone and always find some small defect with it.

Yeah, I have had that experience as well... Although more often than not, I end up with a busted camera which is more than a *minor* defect...
Asurion sometimes sends out BNIB devices but only if a) they don't have a refurb on hand or b) you've gone through a few refurbs in a short time.
I tried fixing my Nexus One's cracked screen...ROYALLY ****ed it up (just a little too much glue & ripped a ribbon) and ended up wasting $150 even after selling it for parts on eBay.
I would say if you are thinking about doing it yourself and don't have a lot of patience/manual dexterity/proper tools & work environment, don't try.
Also I figure the S3 is probably a lot harder to take apart than my old N1.
