Cant update to Marshmallow - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have spent litterally all day trying to update my mrs g3 d855 and i have had no luck, how much of it because my computer i dont know. Im running a chromebook with a full linux distro gallumos installed, got virtual box running 32 bit windows 7. Android sdk, adb etc and got lg drivers installed to recognise the device in its various states, ptp, mtp, download. all that is working. got the official lg mobile support tool and the lg 2014 flash tool.
the problem im having is neither of these will update the phone, if i try to manaully flash the kdz using the flashtool or updating using the official one, it wont update recover either. if i try different region or enter the imei number it always fails at 4%. Iv tried different usb cables, different ports, the phone was at 100% battery the whole time, the laptop was on charge the whole time. I really dont know what else to do, i have no access to another windows machine here and its the mrs phone and she wouldnt want me to take it to work to try on another pc there. As i said earlier the drivers all seem installed correctly, the firmware downloads and extracts as it should but I really am at the point i dont know what else to try

Hello,
Did you try LGUP method? Link is here.
It's easy to use. All you need is there, try it and reply
Just TIP: Do you really have correct drivers for download mode? If LGUP see you device as "unknown", change your COM port to #41
Do "FULL WIPE AND INSTALL MM"

I think I might of, how ever before work I did download a version of lg up and some kind of other installer for it. I also got a kdz file to try and flash. The drivers should all be fine, it gets recognised in all the various modes. My fiance is on nights this week, the soonest il be able to try again is tomorrow so I will let you know it goes. Thank you for replying

Thanks buddy il let you know after I can try it again. If it was a Nexus it would be fine, I know all about fastboot, unlocking bootloaders and rooting and stuff for the Nexus line. So much easier to work with

So I think I might know where I'm going wrong, i thought I had all the drivers set up but there's one I missed, for download mode
Under device manager I see when the phone is turned on with adb on
Android device- lge mobile adb interface-google Inc 4.0.0.0-working properly
Portable devices-g3-lg electronics 4.0.0.0-working properly
Ports (com & lot)-lg mobile USB serial port (com 4)-lg electronics 4.0.0.0-working properly
In download mode device manager
android device isn't there, no adb which is fair enough
Portable devices-g3 with yellow warning triangle-lg electronics 4.0.0.0- the device cannot start code 10
Ports (com & lot)-lg mobile USB serial port (com 4)-lg electronics 4.0.0.0-working properly
So I need to trouble shoot why the device cannot start. I have downloaded 2 packs of Lg drivers, lg united mobile driver & lg mobile driver. Both of which contain loads of drivers inside.
If I guide windows into either of the folders it won't install any new drivers giving an error saying that the driver software is already up to date.
I'm going to Google to find out what's going on with device cannot start error, if I'm missing something obvious please jump in

Can you please post complete screenshot with windows device manager (with open ports menu) and adb console with command "adb devices" ?
In your chromebook, do you have disabled all USB power saving bull****s? Also check VM software to see if there is such a possibility to enable/disable USB power plans.
At least, sorry for my bad english Still a lot of things to learn.

Your English is fine I understand perfectly, in fact I wouldn't of guessed it's not your native language so don't worry! Iv taken photos of my screen. You will see when the phone is turned on normally the host and client can both see the device and adb shows the device is detected and returns the serial number, all good there. The last photos shows when it's in download mode and that the driver isn't working properly, it can not start the device with a code 10 error. If I can fix that I know the lgup programming will run. The problem is because the PC can't communicate with the PC in download mode because of some driver issue.
I'm going to have to carry on tomorrow as I have to go to work and the Mrs needs her phone here while she sleeps

Please, enter download mode and change in Windows COM port from #3 to #41 and try LGUP method . It's up to you what method (upgrade, full wipe) you choose.

OK sounds straight forward enough. As I say il have to try tomorrow as I'm at work now and left the Mrs with her phone at home asleep, she will be working night shift so it will have to be when she is back home. I really appreciate the help and il post again to update how I get on

Where I am now is no further, iv tried changing the port to 41 through device manager. Iv set the port 0041 in virtual box for USB settings. Iv tried several sets of drivers. What keeps happening no matter which set of drivers I use when the phone goes into download mode mtp stops working and stops the phone communicating with the PC. When I restart it will work normally for a while but go wrong again. If I try lg up and starting the upgrade in download mode it gives me an error saying it can't change to download mode if I choose refurbish or upgrade. Lg PC suite just hangs at 0% and returns an error after a while. The 2014 flash tool will get as far as trying to flash but hangs at 4% and returns an error but doesn't specify what. I really don't know what else I can do. When these programs reboot the device into download mode it disconnects the device from the virtual machine and I can't get it connected again quick enough before errors are returned or mtp stops working which requires me to reboot the VM or phone. The only thing I can think to do is try on another machine. If it was my phone I would of thrown it out the window or under a bus. Lg software is unusable through virtual machines and I am not buying a new PC just for this lol Il see if I can use someone else's. I hate being defeated, iv have spent probably some 16 hours and got no where! Why can't they just release an ota? It only strengthens my belief in nexus and fastboot. Sorry for the rant but this really has got under my skin and I don't like giving in
Edit
I'm just as annoyed with windows as lg at this point. I really don't like using it. Grrrr

KS20 V08h-01-234-15-04-JUNE-27-2007

Hi all,
I'm getting crazy and tired about this KS20.
I tried everything on this mobile but nothing worked and now emergency mode is only mode I can turn on the thing: not even the hard reset works anymore (booting stucks on vodafone logo).
Corona drivers never worked: reading inf file they are for product ID 6061, but my mobile when connected is product ID 6000 and only LGE usb drivers (downloaded thru the LG update agent) are correctly working.
And LGMDP can see the device but not flash procedure can be initialized on it.
Someone could help me with that please?????
Come guys!
Give me suggestions please!
Hello,
Your message is somewhat confusing that we can help you, otherwise there is already post on this type of problem you should first browse the forum looking for info more precise. The first goal is the flash in emergency mode, after everything is possible ...

I searched the forum and googled everything but nothing related to that.
As I wrote in my first post I could not install Corona drivers because, weird enough, device is not recognized by them. I had to install LGE usb drivers thru LG Agent update wizard.
So I can not flash thru LMPD.
Thanks for your reply anyway.
What OS do you use? Do you have administrator rights!
I do have administrator rights.
I do confirm anyway that only LGE USB drivers (they are directly from LG, Product ID 6000) are working fine when in emergency mode.... but they are not Corona drivers (ones signed for Product ID 6061) and LDMP is not working because of that.
Do I have a chance to install rom if I'm not using Corona drivers?
No !
What OS do you use?
Windows xp sp2
I can imagine that none had to deal with this firmware version.
I guess I had to throw away this mobile... such a wate!
Thanks anyway.

Try to gain access to a computer with Windows 7 or Vista, the work better with Corona drivers.
Install the drivers first, restart just to play safe, connect your phone in emergency mode (make sure the green LED is on) and wait for driver detection and installation to finish. If the second driver takes too long to install, then just disconnect the phone and reconnect again. Flash in emergency mode as usual.
In case you have lost your IMEI, use the IMEI restoration tool to generate a new .nv2 file.
Keep updating us on how things work out for you.
If you haven't seen it already, try and have a look at this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548447
The part about disabling and enabling the LG driver in Device Manager got my computer to recognize the device in emergency mode so I could flash rickou26's newest ROM on there (and by the way, thanks for the ROM, rickou )
Thanks guys ... i will try your suggestions as soon as I'll be at home again (next week)!

As I saw in oneof your other posts you are using a GM750. This isn't even the same phone as the eXpo or IQ. You're not going to be able to flash one of these roms to your phone. There are hardware differences and software differences that prevent this.

When that happens it should still go into emergency download mode even though the screen might not say it. Try it again and run the update.

The drivers do have their own installer, you should be able to find it in one of the sub folders of c:\users\all users\lgmobileax
thx xdapants i did find the drivers but this did not fix the issue. It seems to be a connection problem with phone and comp (a common problem it would seem) do i`ve orderd and am still waiting for a new cable and hope this is the simple fix im looking for. However, if like i suspect this still does not work can i flash from memory card ? i think this was possible with the htc kaiser (best phone ever) or if not can i flash over a bluetooth connection ?

I don't believe it's possible to flash an lg phone from the memory card, at least not at this point. And as the phone needs to be in download mode, flashing over BT wouldn't be possible.
Consider trying a different USB port; ideally on the opposite side of the computer if you haven't already.
Hopefully the replacement cable will work for you. It seems to be the phone doesn't like being used as a storage device, but that shouldn't really have any bearing the download mode connection.
Im trying to flash my IQ to the latest Dragonstorm ROM and got a error with a load of Chinese characters and something about a server error. Did i miss anything? I got it to see my device and it was put into emergency download no probs. I just a bit reluctant to not wanting to brick my phone
did you extract to the correct location?

[Q] EVO Unrecognized - WTF??

Guys, I need a little help here. I've rooted my share of phones, and even some tablets, but the Evo i bought a few days ago has been a nightmare.
For some reason, and I can't tell why, this thing will not be recognized by Windows.
It always shows up as "Unknown Device" under the USB catagory on Device Manager.
I've tried different OS versions (Windows 7 64Bit, Vista 64bit, Even Mac). I've also pulled down every form of driver I can think of (SDK Orginal version, HTC Sync, Hboot Versions, etc.)
I just cannot get this thing to be recognized. And if I manually try to update the driver and point it to one that I've downloaded, Windows tells me that the most current driver is already installed.
The bottom line is that I need to be able to connect to the phone from the comp in order to push stuff via ADB and throw commands at it. The same unknown device situation happens when the phone is in bootloader or actually booted into Stock Froyo (2.2)
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I know i haven't, and it's buggin me out.

I've never seen that before. Wish I had something for ya. Is the Evo brand new or used? Are you sure the usb cable is good? I've seen a bad cable cause some headaches before. Wish I had more for ya, sorry man.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
EVO is not new. I bough it from cragslist a few days ago. It seems to work fine otherwise. Not rooted for sure, and running Sprint original 2.2.
I did try a couple of different USB cables just to be sure, and had the same results.
The funny thing is that even though I was never able to get it "recognized" on any of my machines, I was able to get ADB so "see" it for a while. I started the rooting process by pushing files to it via ADB and even sent a reboot command to it.
Once it rebooted, that's when it all went bad. It was still showing as unrecognized (just like before), but now ADB can't see it at all. Keeps telling me no devices are connected.
Even my friend's Mac Air (which supposedly doesn't need any kind of drivers to see the phone) can't see it either.
It's just weird...
perform a hard reset, maybe a rogue app or setting got messed up,
fastboot screen>clear storage>yes
Tried that as well. Sorry i didn't mention it in the original post.
I think I've pretty much tried everything that's somewhat logical at this point.
Now I'm looking for the "illogical" ideas.
Make sure usb debugging option is turned on in settings>applications>development and the phone is in charge only mode. Then it should be recognized and you should be able to use adb.
Debugging was turned on already. I made sure of that.
As for the mode of connection I've tried them all with mixed results.
Here's what I've seen so far...
Charge only - unrecognized device in Device manager, and ADB can't see it.
HTC sync - unrecognized device in Device manager, and ADB can't see it.
Disk Drive - unrecognized device in Device manager, and ADB can't see it.
Internet Sharing - never tried it.
Here's the weird part. If i uncheck Debugging and set the phone to HTC Sync, I am sometimes able to get ADB to see it.
This is just confusing...
What happens if you uninstall HTC Sync and just leave the drivers installed? Could work I suppose. I know unrevoked says to make sure you uninstall HTC Sync and install the ADB drivers.
try this. connect your evo to a machine running xp. i had the same problems rooting one evo using windows 7. connected to a machine running xp ,zipped right through without a hitch.
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU IN YOUR QUEST
Thats what I tried on the Vista box.removed HTC sync, and left the HTC drivers.when that failed I removed the drivers too and replaced them with several different ones I found online.none seemed to work.
The strangest part is that all guides seem to say that MAC OS should just see it without any drivers.
I borrowed friends MAC air and it didn't see it either.
I'm not sure which USB drivers you are using, but these work for me. Uninstall the drivers first, then install this. I hope it is legal to put these here and if not I am extremely sorry.
PS you could try a Linux Live CD and it will see it without drivers or go with Wubi which installs Ubuntu on your Windows hard drive and can be uninstalled just like any other program. It gives you the option to boot into Ubuntu or Windows on bootup. Neat little program and it is faster than using the live CD. Go to this link Wubi and click the Start Download button to download Wubi.
Those seem to be the same drivers I've tried (well those and a ton of others as well).
I'm gonna give that LiveCD idea a shot. Burning it now.
If not, I'm gonna try to find an XP machine somewhere.
I've got a couple of VM's on my machine running XP, but since the main Win7 Machine doesn't see it, it can't seem to pass the USB connection over to the XP VM.
Man, I have to say, this is just the most complicated rooting process I've ever seen. If this was my first root attempt, I'm pretty sure I'd leave Android forever
It usually is a painless operation to root the Evo. For some reason you are having a difficult time with driver installation. It seriously has to be something simple that has been missed, because I have rooted mine and several friends Evo's and it was very easy. I had a MyTouch 3g 3.5mm before this Evo and talk about a pain. Before the Universal Auto root app you had to make a gold card first and that in itself took over an hour. It was my first root and it was very difficult and time consuming, so to see how easy the Evo was no matter which way I do it made me very happy.

yes the mac doesn't require additonal drivers to run adb however u need to make sure the directory is properly set in terminal so adb knows where to pull commands from... on windows did u try uninstalling everything phone related? SDK, HTC Sync, the whole nine yards then try reinstalling only the sdk and the usb drivers? I know with the lastest SDK the usb driver is not included for some reason or at least it wasn't with mine... then one day my adb just randomly stopped working and a uninstall/reinstall cleared up everything... try this usb driver and see where it gets u. Don't know if it's any different that wat the guy above posted but worth a shot. Reinstall the appropriate SDK first then i would recommend plugging the evo into the pc with no usb drivers installed then when it cant automatically find the drivers direct it to the file u downloaded and it should pull the necessary drivers from there and see if that does the trick...
View attachment android-usb-driver.zip
No dice so far guys...but i have made progress in identifying the issue (sort of).
So here's the deal - the ONLY way the phone is recognized is if i toggle the "debugging" setting.
If i plug the phone in with the switch set on (meaning USB Debugging enabled) the phone is not recognized. Pointing the unknown device to the drivers (any drivers) does nothing.
However, if i plug the phone in with the switch set off, it finds a usb mass storage device. Then i turn the debugging switch on, and it finds the ADB Android phone with no issues. Then i can push commands via ADB without any problems.
The problem i have is that I cannot toggle that switch if i boot into HBOOT menu. So the comp never see's the phone.
I've tried this experiment on Win7-64bit, Vista-64bit, XP 32bit, and even MAC.
The same situation seems to apply everywhere, and with all of the drivers I've tried. None of them seem to allow the phone to be plugged in and automatically be found. The only way for the comp to see the phone is if i toggle the debugging switch off, then on.
At this point, I'm ready to put out a bounty on this. $20 via PayPal to anyone who can walk me through it. Bottom line is that I need to be able to see the phone without having to toggle the debugging switch. That will allow me to boot into HBOOT and still send commands to the phone via ADB.
Thanks for all the help guys. Hopefully, we can get this resolved.

*Solved* LG G3 No longer connects to PC via MTP/PTP - Only Charge-only

Hi Guys,
A weird one here for you, I'm already contemplating throwing my phone at a wall that's how long I've been trying to fix it.
I have a LG G3 D855 Gold 32gb model purchased via Kogan in Australia.
The unit is now on Android 5.0 (no updates available for 5.1+) - Software Version V20i-SEA-XX with Build number LRX21R.A1440645925.
This phone is non-rooted with stock ROM etc.
So the issue at hand, I upgraded my Win7 PC via the upgrade option to Win10 to retain my games/files etc.
Now when connecting the phone to the PC it only goes to charging mode and I am unable to click on it within the drop-down to change it to anything else.
I have tried LG G3 drivers, Googles generic drivers, ADB suite drivers. I am unable to adb find the phone, I do not have an Acer Composite device in Device Manager.
Win 10 keeps saying the device is not recognised/malfunctioned.
Tried different cords, double checked the connector on the phone for any dust specs etc.
My PC refuses to work with any driver I have thrown at it, however in each scenario with various drivers, warnings still persist in Device Manager.
Some of the drivers force the phone to connect/reconnect and cause the "ping" sound each time it disconnects and reconnects (with malfunction warning prompts).
This is on Win10 with 64bit Home edition.
I am at my wits end and can't think of anything I haven't tried beyond a factory reset of my phone (hoping not to at this stage as I'm thinking it's driver-related).
It won't let me tether or anything via USB also, same goes with USB debugging, no change.
Lastly which may also help narrow it down, with the phone plugged in BEFORE it gets to the OS, I can change between PTP/MTP and USB charge, however once the Win10 OS loads up, it disconnects/malfunctions and lists Charge Only.
And yes, this phone can connect on my Win7 small PC which I use for testing crap out on.
Any ideas guys?
Let me know if any log files or anything is required.
At this stage I am unable to do a root to the phone (due to adb issues etc) nor can I connect to the internal phone system unless I use in the in-built file explorer.
Edit: *SOLVED*
Ok so turns out the issue is, and this is just my case, my motherboard has various utilities, one of which is a USB 3.0 boost option.
When I did an upgrade to Windows 10, it somehow screwed up various programs on my PC including registry etc.
I reinstalled the particular utility (I was actually trying to fix my graphics clock etc so happy coincidence) which also re-installs the USB 3.0 Boost software which in turn has fixed my USB Ports.
So if you have a custom built PC (my Motherboard being a Rampage 4 Formula). Check the Mobo Utilities/Drivers for any conflicts.
I have the exact same problem, and I can't seem to find a solution for months now. It's really annoying and depressing

Hi Guys,
A weird one here for you, I'm already contemplating throwing my phone at a wall that's how long I've been trying to fix it.

Using the drivers on that page you have advised gives the following.
Device Manager shows a Warning on it in USB controllers as "LGE Mobile USB Composite Device". It automatically "malfunctions" according to Windows 10 and I can't change the connection interface on the phone.
Going into the properties on that device in Device Manager lists the following;
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A device which does not exist was specified.

This didn't work. Already tried
Fixed my problem
I've had the same issue with my LG G3 in being unable to connect the device to my laptop. I'm not sure if the cause was a phone software update or the upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Either way, I searched and fixed it tonight by installing updated drivers. Hope this helps others as well.
Hmmm, I cannot post the link! technobuzz dot net lg g3 drivers

I would like to perform this guide to unlock my bootloader on my LG g8 thinq the only problem i continuously run into is when i put my phone into EDL mode and connect it to my PC I check the device manager and it comes up as qusb_bulk_cid:xxx_SN:xxxxxxx I have tried everything i can think of to fix this issue... I have installed all of the latest qualcomm drivers, ADB drivers, USB drivers and nothing will correct this for QFIL to be able to pick up my phone and a port that gets assigned to it like (COM1) ect ect. I really hope someone could tell me what im doing wrong and or what im missing please. I everyone else get this qualcomm 9008 thing instead and I cant for the life of me figure out what is going on.

Haven't done this part in quite a while, but I think you just need to right click it in file manager, oops I mean device manager of course, and assign the appropriate driver to it.

I have attempted to do this and every time I do it says windows could not install the driver. I’ve also used a driver updating software and it said the driver was missing. Tried to update/install it and it did nothing.. just kept saying the driver was missing.
