Note 4 Brick - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I bricked my note 4 sm-n910a trying to root it not knowing it would do that. And I've researched for weeks now and trying to get my software back with Odin, smart switch, and the other one with an f. But none of them have worked and I'm pretty sure it's because I didn't enable usb-debugging before I rooted. So now I don't know what to do.

Do you care if you trip Knox?
If not, then I would suggest using Chainfires root method. You can find it in the "Original Android Development" section.
If you do NOT want to trip Knox(warranty issues), then look into Root De La Vega.
I was going to go with Root De La Vega, then stumbled across Kingo Root.
http://www.kingoapp.com/android-root.htm
It's just a one-click app, no ADB knowledge needed. Although I wasn't worried about it, it didn't trip the Knox counter. I did that on my own later...

+1 to kingo, I rooted with De la Vega the first time but after that my spen wasn't taking screenshots, and the screenshot with palm action wasn't working either. I went back to stock via Odin and rooted again with kingo, and everything start to work the way is supposed to.

I thought this method wasn't recommended due to sending your IMEI to some unknown server? Has this issue been addressed?
The above is the only reason I didn't recommend it.

I had read a little about that before I did it. At the time, I was suffering the brutal stock boot loop issue and just needed a quick way of rooting it to load TWRP so I could troubleshoot it. It wasn't stable enough for me to get ADB up and running.
To be honest, I figured even if they did get the IMEI for whatever reason, I was probably going to warranty swap the phone because I didn't realize the boot loop was a known software problem.
So far, everything seems legit.

I have pretty much chosen to pursue this route, however my phone (SM-900T) does NOT have a "Dev" section in settings, best I can manage is "Unknown Sources"...it is checked but to no avail. Please advise.

They hid the developer options by default in Jelly Bean. You have to go to Settings/About Phone and tap Build Number until you get a prompt to enable dev options.

Root Failed with Kingo.....First failure at rooting. Hmmm
2nd time was a charm.
So I removed the root expecting to do an ota and after the ota re-root. However the server response is "device has been altered" or something similar and wont allow me to update. So I go back to Kingo to re-root and nothing. it connects but i dont even get the superuser prompt to grant access. I'm wondering if I need to do a factory reset then try again. Anyone have any ideas? All I have ever done is root. I'm at a loss.

You might not get OTA update because of rooting your phone. Try flash the update using odin.
SM-N900T: Powered by X-Note V13/CivZ-SnapKat 2.1
Yeah I was going to do that. But now I cant get re-rooted with the same method. But I think I may have found another method using odin.

Supposedly using mobile Odin correctly allows 4.2.2 root without tripping Knox. If you don't care about KNOX use CF-Autoroot. I stopped caring and installed Beastmode Kernel and TWRP.
Thanks..yeah the orig method I used reported not tripping knox but apparently did...now I can no longer receive ota's bfd. I dont care. I'll use odin to flash kk and root from there. If not, I have JUMP and I'll just replace it.

Root Help

Do I need to do any kinda of unlock on the N5110 prior to rooting? I'm trying CF-Autoroot but it doesn't seem like it is seeing the unit when I am download mode. The computer sees it when its in Android and I can reboot into download from adb.

No unlocking required... just get saferoot.zip. It is the best and will work perfect every time. Used it on ATT Note 8.0 and Retail Note 8.0 just fine.

Hey sorry didn't get the email about your response. I actually tried every method I could find(including that one) and they all just leave me with eu.supersu.com (or something like that) installed but crashing everytime I launch it. I'm doing it from completely stock. I flash the stock Rom back on through Odin after each failed attempt. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Also I have rooted a few phones before so I do know relatively what I'm doing.
This is what I followed

Have you tried Framaroot? I really have almost no experience with the note 2, and I read here that the rooting method of choice is Chainfire's as terpin32 suggested, but the Framaroot thread does list the note 2 as a supported device. Do you know what bootloader you have? If it is locked, I don't know if this works.

I'm a bit confused as to why you are having issues rooting your Note 2. I have the Rogers Note 2 i317m and it was on the same firmware and rooted it without any issues using the link I provided and from the looks of it you even tried methods that are better. I wonder what other factors may be affecting your rooting processes.
Where does the process fail and on which rooting instructions?

Well they all appear to successfully root the phone but when the phone reboots I get an app(titled eu.supersu.com or something like that) that crashes immediately every time I launch it with most of the methods. A few methods gave me a working supersu app but no su binary. I'm really getting frustrated oh I'm also on Rogers I don't think I mentioned that. Maybe I should try factory reset in it in case any apps are causing the problem.

Just figured i'd let you guys know I finally worked up the nerve to factory reset(i hate doing it) and it fixed the problems i was having.I also had to manually reinstall the supersu apk after rooting.
Glad you got it sorted. Setting everything up again is not trivial, but sometimes it has to be.

[Q] Unrooting and returning note 4

Hi guys after a week of testing note 4 I'm returning my Note 4 and getting Note 3 back biggest dealbraker is the Sprint Spark no voice and data at the same time.
My question is how do i unroot it so there is no super U or TWRP I'm using the stock rom that came with the phone I just want to do the factory reset and return the phone. The ppl that will take the phone back will not even know hot to get to recovery I expect. How do I get rid of the TWRP recovery?
To anyone out there considering the switch from 3 to 4 Don't Do It! its not worth it unless you just got money.
Thanks!
anyone that does not see the different between the 4 and the 3 must not understand much. Sayin'
The N4 is the best phone I have ever owned. I have used all the HTC Android phones and also most of the Samsung phones, including all the Note series.
In one of the root threads, there is a stock tar file to run via odin and your back to stock unroot.
Many should not assume and research the device before purchase. As it may have been a dealbreaker for you and others. Many have also known this prior to purchasing phone. And still paid to have one. Personal preference. .........

will this reset Knox? I heard that's once you have flashed the hardware is permanently changed, although I don't know if this is just reflected in the binary flag as showing 'custom'.
I"m wondering whether you can get warranty service or return a phone once you have rooted if you can't undo Knox. ?

This will not reset knox, but it will get you back to official unrooted with factory recovery. I've personally had a rooted phone serviced at a corporate sprint center with no issue's. But some places care whole others don't, hope this helps.

As far as my store goes, we don't check to see if it was rooted or not as long as you're within the 14 day return policy and there aren't any damages to the phone.

In a word... YES! When you go back to stock, re-root, install the right recovery... If you still have write to external SD card issues, search "sd fix" here on XDA, run it and you'll be good to go.... Hope this helps...

I completely agree, it's by far the best!! I went from a LONG list of HTC's --> Note 2 --> Note 3 --> Note 4. Im shocked everytime I hear/read someone say that Note 3 --> Note 4 isn't much of an upgrade. They both have a 5.7" display, and a similar overall size, but that's where the similarities end. Note 4 is an absolute beast and destroys every other phone that's available!

I think i've bricked my phone

I have what I thought was a n910f so a root was possible but when in download mode it shows up as a n910a which I didnt notice. I used kingroot which also showed my phone as a n910f and when my phone rebooted it said return it to at&t because it was running unauthorised software. I was running 4.4.4 does anyone have any information of how I can fix it please?

Ok, so the samsung kies did not fix my Note 4 (SM-N910A).
I did find this:
http://androidromupdate.com/att-galaxy-note-4-sm-n910a-stock-firmware
downloaded the 5.1.1 package which contains, not just the AP file, but the BL, CP, and the CSC... ALL 4 Must be flashed with Odin 3.09, at the same time.
My phone is now working again.

Hi, I'm in the soft-brick syndrome.
This is my first go at rooting my phone (SM-N910A) - at least i was smart enough to try it after i upgraded
anyhoo, i researched and read. i installed my usb drivers, odin, and downloaded the suggested firmware. i couldn't talk between my computer and phone; so, i tried kingroot - big mistake. it failed in the middle and now i'm getting a startup error that says secure fail: kernel, then the blah, blah, blah go to AT&T store blah blah blah.... error.
i finally was able to reinstall the usb drivers and believe that odin can talk to my phone, but i receive a fail message when i try to install the firmware.
what to do? please help.

hey pal im in the sameboat ,and like you i also made the fatal mistake of using kingroot. only cause i used it on SM-E700M and worked fine so i tried it on the note 4 and now i have no clue what to do next should i try to re root it again or maybe try to install the lolipop system it came with or do i try to upgrade or maybe try and install original firmware i can really use your advice what do you think?
no progress yet. i tried loading 5.1.1 and the original version (4.4.x ... whatever it was). both failed. i think that i might be approaching the issue incorrectly.
i think that i might have rooted the phone but tripped knox - when i startup i see in icon of a padlock that's open and it says custom underneath. but i get the error stating about non-standard software installed. i'm going to continue to research and see if i can figure out how to reset / remove knox.
i saw that there was someone who went back to ATT to have them reset the phone ... does anyone know whether they'll do it? at least i could have the phone at a "ready" state to try again ... after more research and prep. ;- )
not real progress, but...
i researched some more and feel as if i made some progress with odin3v1.85.
i followed directions from this article: How to Unroot / Unbrick Balaxy Note 4 (i found on the androidrootz site - sorry, i'm not allowed to post a url yet)
so, i'm still bricked, but this process was able to communicate with my phone and reported that flashing the firmware was successful.
incremental progress ... maybe ...
my solution
while i would have preferred to be able to figure it out, i couldn't.
i took the phone to AT&T today and they re-imaged it. all is clear and it's back to factory settings - no cost.

Unfortunatly, once you are on 5.1.1 there is no downgrading back to 4.4.4. Many have tried, non have suceeded. Am I saying it is impossible, I do not believe anything is impossible, but right now we do not have the right tools. Take care.
