[Q] Unrooting and returning note 4 - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys after a week of testing note 4 I'm returning my Note 4 and getting Note 3 back biggest dealbraker is the Sprint Spark no voice and data at the same time.
My question is how do i unroot it so there is no super U or TWRP I'm using the stock rom that came with the phone I just want to do the factory reset and return the phone. The ppl that will take the phone back will not even know hot to get to recovery I expect. How do I get rid of the TWRP recovery?
To anyone out there considering the switch from 3 to 4 Don't Do It! its not worth it unless you just got money.
Thanks!

anyone that does not see the different between the 4 and the 3 must not understand much. Sayin'
The N4 is the best phone I have ever owned. I have used all the HTC Android phones and also most of the Samsung phones, including all the Note series.

In one of the root threads, there is a stock tar file to run via odin and your back to stock unroot.
Many should not assume and research the device before purchase. As it may have been a dealbreaker for you and others. Many have also known this prior to purchasing phone. And still paid to have one. Personal preference. .........

Yes, use odin and do a factory reset from the stock recovery after a successful install

Do you guys have a direct link to the sprint kernel? That site won't load on my phone for some reason.

will this reset Knox? I heard that's once you have flashed the hardware is permanently changed, although I don't know if this is just reflected in the binary flag as showing 'custom'.
I"m wondering whether you can get warranty service or return a phone once you have rooted if you can't undo Knox. ?

This will not reset knox, but it will get you back to official unrooted with factory recovery. I've personally had a rooted phone serviced at a corporate sprint center with no issue's. But some places care whole others don't, hope this helps.

As far as my store goes, we don't check to see if it was rooted or not as long as you're within the 14 day return policy and there aren't any damages to the phone.

I messed up and installed the Tmobile TWRP by mistake. Now my phone won't write to my ExtSD card. I want to go back to 'out-of-the-box' status and start over. Do I just need to Odin/flash the Stock-NIE-trltespr-recovery.tar file from the shabbypenguin site you listed, to go back to stock recovery, no root status?

Thanks

In a word... YES! When you go back to stock, re-root, install the right recovery... If you still have write to external SD card issues, search "sd fix" here on XDA, run it and you'll be good to go.... Hope this helps...

I completely agree, it's by far the best!! I went from a LONG list of HTC's --> Note 2 --> Note 3 --> Note 4. Im shocked everytime I hear/read someone say that Note 3 --> Note 4 isn't much of an upgrade. They both have a 5.7" display, and a similar overall size, but that's where the similarities end. Note 4 is an absolute beast and destroys every other phone that's available!

[Q] UN-ROOT Galaxy Note 2 LTE Tutorial?

I just successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 using Odin and CWM Recovery.
This is exactly what I did:
- D/L Odin 3.04 and "cwm6-root-note2.tar" and saved them to my Desktop
- Extracted Odin and started the program
- Set my Note 2 to USB Debugging
- Restarted the Note 2 in "Downloading Mode" by holding down Volume Down, Home & Power buttons simultaneously
- Connected usb cord to my phone and computer
- Confirmed that Odin registered connection of my phone correctly on COM port
- Went to PDA, then selected "cwm6-root-note2.tar"
- Then I selected start, or root or whatever starts the process. And voila! Rooted with CWM & SuperUser App.
However, I might be returning the phone so I now need to know how to reverse that process and UNROOT my phone. Can someone please help walk me through that process? Do I need to obtain more files that were overwritten or deleted when I rooted?
Also, I thought, perhaps, I could unroot using the SuperUser app so I chose the option that said something like "Unroot.... etc." All it did, however, was get rid of Super User because when I restart my phone in recovery mode, it still boots CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.4
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance. Which link do I download though? Are they all the same? Or do I need to find the link with the country I bought the phone in? If so, I didn't see Korea on that list at all.
Also, when I do this, will the counter be reset to zero?

Hi,
So you rooted a LTE version, can I ask which version did you have (SHV-E250S / SHV-E250K / SHV-E250L)?
Is it meaning the rooting process of LTE version is same as the non LTE (3G?) Note II?
Also, what is the reason of returning the phone? Did you find something not good with LTE?
Thank you.

I rooted a SHV-E250L. The process went very smoothly. Especially considering I'd never rooted a phone before. So, from my experience, it seems to be the same process but don't take my word for it.
The phone is awesome - no problems at all. It was just very expensive and I was having a little buyer's remorse. I'm over it now. I was also concerned about not being able to use it in the US when I move back, which I am still unsure about. I have asked a few developers on here but haven't heard back yet. If possible, I'd like to flash a US ROM on the phone so that I can use it on the networks there and access the unrestricted Google Play Store... so, we'll see.
Hope that helps.

I dont think these will work with your phone. These are for rhe N7100. Going by your recent posts, it looks like you have a different model.

Brian,
I am living in Korea as well and I have a lot of experience with the Korean smart phones.
To answer some of your questions, you can use them in the states with either a Stateside SIM (assuming your phone is unlocked, you can get it unlocked from the store if you're going to be traveling) or a Korean SIM (obvious roaming charges). I don't think the LTE bands are the same in SK and the US, therefore you wouldn't be able to use the LTE.
In my experience (with my SGS1) you won't be able to flash a US or Int'l ROM on your Korean model. The internals might be closer than the SGS1 and it's variants were but I wouldn't do it unless you have the Note2 Korean ROM ready to flash back with Odin in the event it won't boot.
You can get unrestricted Play Store access now. You need to download MarketAccess. Google it. it Allows you to basically tell the phone what network it thinks it's on.
In the event you ever need to unroot your phone, you just need to use Odin to flash the official firmware.
If you need anything else, let me know...

Most likely Tegrak will have a kernel for this device before too long. You would then be able to use the Odin software to root the phone. The process is the same for both.

Thank you so much for the answers. I really appreciate it. So, you're saying for sure I will not be able to use this phone's LTE capabilities in the US on any network? If so, that's a huge game changer for me... I wonder what LG U+'s return policy is... I know I can just transfer the phone to someone else here in Korea when I leave and pick up a Note 2 in the states when I go back but I feel like I'd be losing a lot of money since the cost of the phone is spread out amongst the monthly payments here in Korea. Are there any phones that will work work both on SK LTE and US LTE?
Regarding un-rooting my phone, don't I need to get a hold on the official firmware before I can flash it with Odin? Or is it stored somewhere on my phone? All the official firmwares I've seen on XDA are for the N7100 not the N7105. Any suggestions?
Thank you, again, for all your support. You rock!

No problem, glad to help.
I am also looking for the firmware online. I haven't found it yet. PM me your email and when I find it, I'll send it over to you.
All info I have read says LTE is different. The 3G would still work just no LTE.
Idk what LG's policy is, but you could take it to Samsung a/s in the electronics market to revert it if needed.
Good luck. I might know someone who could take the phone of your hands next year if you want to go that route.

SHV-E250S problem.
Hello SHV-E250S/K/L users.
Does anyone know where I can download an official factory stock ROM for my SHV-E250S ?
I have an IMEI missing issue, and EFS file deleted issue. After wich i have a black notice on the screen and no boot logo or turn of logo, it just switches straight away after pressing the button.
No network or IMEI(((
I just came back from the Samsung official service center, and guess what, they can`t help me. They say i need to flash an original factory rom, i even brought them the two roms i downloaded from the: www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SHV-E250S&pcode=0&os=1&type=1#firmware
And they said that these are not official factory roms, that they are custom, all thaw when i flash with one them, and go to recovery mode, my current binary changes to official. Don’t know why but everything else stays the same:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SHV-E250S
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (37 counts)
CURENT BINARY: Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
DON`T KNOW HOW TO FIX, AND WHERE TO GET FACTORY ROM((((
Would appreciate any help!

[Q] Verizon Note 2 Rooted - Wish to Unroot (Used Adam's Guide for Bootloader)

I used Adam's guide to bypass the bootloader as I have the newer version and probably already had the OTA update.

When I boot into download mode here are my stats.
SCH-I605
No
Samsung Official
Custom
This does mean that it has voided the warranty.. correct?
I'm ok with just getting back to stock. I don't want to risk getting bricked trying to use triangle away to reset the counter.
What's the best path to get back to stock at this point?
I know I should have found this somewhere but I've been reading SO many forums here and it's confusing after you have the OTA update.
Your counter is not raised so you don't need triangle away. Thats all I can help.
There is a different forum for verizon note 2 so look there.
People here would probably not be able to help you much because verizon version is a lot different then international version.

Flashing Stock ROM with Odin will unroot device
if needs you can wipe cache and data to make status Normal
If you want just status -Normal without unroot, try this
Setting - Application manager - All - SysScope - clear data
do same with Enterprise SysScope if available

Help a Noob unroot
I did Adams Casual Verizon 1 click root with recovery months ago now I want to return to stock to do the OTA update that's been a defer nag. I'm tired of deferring it. How do I return the phone to stock, I tired of searching for the right forum or u-tube vids for a simple straight forward step by step procedure. Right now I have the I605VRAMC3 Build. Someone please advise, this is my 3rd GN2 and I don't want to brick it again. The 1st one I bricked and the 2nd replacement, the phone just stopped sending/receiving data. Then can I run the 1 click again to re-root?

So i kinda panicked and decided to flash the stock MD4 rom and once it finished i tried to reboot the device but didnt get a response from it. I then pulled the battery out and tried to boot into recovery but still nothing not even a vibrate...Im most likely thinking its bricked but just to be sure im asking for your help. Thanks.
You hard-bricked it. When you update to MK3/4.3 via the OTA, you update the bootloader, which adds KNOX which prevents (by bricking) downgrading to anything lower than 4.3 versions. Good luck my friend.

If you can return it to Best Buy as defective or DOA and have them replace it on the spot, do it. I doubt they've got the gear to check out the software/firmware status if it doesn't power up. However, if you are forced to go through Samsung directly then you may or may not be SOL. Good luck amigo.

This the method I used for rooting when I had 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611175
Check my signature for a link to how I rooted with 4.4.2
Depending on the version of Android you have on that phone, it will trip the Knox flag. Which won't affect the performance of the phone, but will indicate you messed with your phone. There may be other rooting methods that work, but this one worked for me.
BTW, I found that method by using Search on this forum and Google.

The safe root method is how i rooted with 4.3 but it is my understanding that you need your phone to be unlocked to use a different carrier. Unlocked and rooted are 2 different things.

Unlocked sop I can use whatever carrier I want.
Rooted Because I want control over my pohone and not somebody else saying what I can and cant do with it.
I can get it to bot in cwm recovery but thats all it won't rot the rom so I can see it its rooted or not. I followed eth entire instructions provided and used oden like it said to and all I suceded in doing was makeing a damn brick out of a phone I got to have running tomorrow morning

If you can get into Download mode (Power Off, then Volume Down+Power Button), then you'll need to download the Stock Rom and transfer it to your phone via ODIN. Do you know if you were 4.2, 4.3, or 4.42 before you bricked it? You can download the images from Sammobile.com

If you have access to ClockWork Mod Recovery, wipte the cache and dalvik and see if that lets it boot.
If not, just download a rom, any rom from the dev section that you want to try and put it on a micro SD card. Put the SD card in your phone.
Do a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik) in recovery and flash the downlaoded ROM file. Your phone should boot right up.
You'll want a TouchWiz based rom if you still need to perform the SIM unlock proceedure so you can use it on the Cricket network. But once step at a time here...

If you look at my signature, you'll see that I've got a SGH-M919 also and I'm on T-Mobile with a phone purchased from T-Mobile.
I've provided links that worked for me.

Thats cause it wasn;t rooted before, hopefully it is now, cause my wife just went to Cricket to see if she can get her Iphone and mine on their network
I finally got the phone rooted but I screwed it up so bad I had to install a different rom to make it work, so not I'm roted and running wicked rom .Next I installed, updated and ran region away, it said it didn;t know if it worked or not, but I was told that it does unlock so hopefully it did.
I havea different S4 here ( SGHM919) that I'm gonna try the cf auto root on when the battery is fully charged, cause both my sons have S4's and they want to keep the rom they have now just be unlocked
If you were looking at cwm recovery then you most likely have root.

And if you don't you can easily get root with CWMrecovery
Sent from your phone. You should be more careful where you leave that thing.

When I used Region away it says somewhere that it doesn't unlock your phone to where you can use other carriers. So you might want to find out lol

Thank you gentlemen, my phone is working again, rooted, currently running wicked rom, all the other phones are rooted with the stock roms for the kiddies unless they want to have a better rom
Region away works perfectly on mine even though it says it doesn't know if it did.
I was going to use triangle away, but it says something about bricking my phone and I really don't give a damn about the counter so ........
PanchoPlanet, Google is NOT my friend when it comes to phones XDA id my friend when it comes to phones
Now to go look for the stock memo pad that comes with the S4, I like that one best its simple and works
I too prefer Memo Pad, it's quick and simple, my reference to Google was that its quicker than the XDA search and more accurate. Good to hear your back on track.

If Google is not your friend, then maybe his big brother may be - Google Advanced Search:
https://www.google.com/advanced_search
where you can seach specific sites, specific words or phrases.

I found Smemo on line, took a while since I'm on oxycodone for pain due to a hernia operateing, but I got it, placed it in eth rom and reflashed it
Now I'd love to find a theme for Wicked V10 that would change teh color of the phone dialpad, I HATE white dialers, makes me remember when I was a kid back in teh 60' when my mom had nothing but white so she could see if it was clean, and sanitized, degermed, and all that, ( yes I was an outside type, and brought it all inside )
Oh and all I can say guys, is thanks for trying to help me I WILL figure it out for the firmware and hardware and software that I have, experimenting with a phone that I totally bricked today, gotta re-instal the entire os on it, so I'm gonna experiment with various versions of the SGH-M919 software, if I find out what works on what I'll post it for you guys to check and make sure I did right

Question about voiding warranty.

Ok so I'm not asking on how to install a rom or anything like that. It's just that I haven't rooted a phone or installed a different rom in so long that I just don't know what's changed. So I just got a LG G4, and I wanted to install Cyanogenmod just because I like the customization options it had back then and I'm sure it's gotten better now (on that note can you still revert to stock roms on phones?). So here's the thing, I just got the phone today, and it's brand new. Now I'm afraid something might go wrong with the phone (other than bricking which would be my fault) and I want to be able to send it in and get it fixed or replaced. I remember a while back there was something you'd installed that it would reset the counter (flash counter?) so it would seem like it was not rooted. Is that still around or anything like that so technically I'm not voiding my warranty just yet?
Why don't you read the forum a little bit more

Currently the only you can do on this phone (unless you have tmobile or international) is root as the bootloader is locked. The only possible roms we'd have are stock modded roms that we can flash the system.imgs for.

I do have T-Mobile., so does that mean I can or can't? So if I understood this correctly, stock modded roms can be used to reset the flash counter or do you mean revert it back to unrooted stock or both?
