Question about voiding warranty. - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I'm not asking on how to install a rom or anything like that. It's just that I haven't rooted a phone or installed a different rom in so long that I just don't know what's changed. So I just got a LG G4, and I wanted to install Cyanogenmod just because I like the customization options it had back then and I'm sure it's gotten better now (on that note can you still revert to stock roms on phones?). So here's the thing, I just got the phone today, and it's brand new. Now I'm afraid something might go wrong with the phone (other than bricking which would be my fault) and I want to be able to send it in and get it fixed or replaced. I remember a while back there was something you'd installed that it would reset the counter (flash counter?) so it would seem like it was not rooted. Is that still around or anything like that so technically I'm not voiding my warranty just yet?

Why don't you read the forum a little bit more

Currently the only you can do on this phone (unless you have tmobile or international) is root as the bootloader is locked. The only possible roms we'd have are stock modded roms that we can flash the system.imgs for.

I do have T-Mobile., so does that mean I can or can't? So if I understood this correctly, stock modded roms can be used to reset the flash counter or do you mean revert it back to unrooted stock or both?

How can I get LiDroid Toggles on stock ROOTED?

So basically I had LiDroid Toggles when I was using a ROM. I really miss how I can change the toggles on top when I slide down.
I have a stock recovery, I guess I can get TWRP, can I just flash the file even though im not on a stock ROM? I don't think I can brick my phone right since im flashing through recovery? ugh some please shed some light thanks.
You likely wont hard brick....but if the files you want to flash do not state "compatible" with the rom you are running, then the chance of a software brick is quite high...
you may want to use a rom suitable for those particular mods ??
I dont second guess developers any more, as it has cost me dearly in the past.
If Scott says it's a go, then go for it...but if his extensive thread info does not include the ability...then avoid it like the plague...

Bugs or defective Phone?

Alright guys I've been having issues with my phone for quite some time now, I think they started since the release of JB 4.3, I don't recall havving issues with 4.2.2 but who knows, ever since I upgraded to 4.3 I had the following I'm almost certain that it my device that is defective cause I read thru quite a few threads and I didn't see people complaining about the same issues as me, so Here's what's going on maybe someone out there is going thru the same.
Please know that I had the same issues wether I use TW or any google or AOSP rom.
1.- Phone calls, somewhat often when making/answering calls I cant hear the other person, it seems that they cant hear me neither, so I just hang up and re-call again and it goes thru, this happens both during wi-fi calling or just using regular signal.
2.-Camera won't focus I open my camera and and the image is blurry, I tap on the screen to focus but it won';t do it, so I just close it and open it again sometime I do this couple of time and then the camera works fine.
I guess all I'm looking for is a confirmation more than anything, since I have insurance, I can always take my phone into a t-mo store and get it replaced for $5 and get it replaced within 24hrs...
Currently running Darthstalker X1 with latest Modem...
Thank you guys and appreciate any info, opinion, or whatever u can offer!!
Have you tried just going to plain stock with Odin to see if it also happens?

You know that's about the only thing I haven't tried, I just don't want to deal with the Knox Security.. but I guess that I have to do it to find out for sure...
Or should I try to odin back to 4.2.2??

I think I'm going to try that...
If you're still on 4.2.2 bootloader then yeah Odin to 4.2.2 otherwise do 4.3

You were able to downgrade to 4.2.2 via Odin? That was pretty risky, I was on the s3 forums before my s4 and quite a few people kept bricking their phones attempting to downgrade to 4.1.2 in Odin from 4.3.. Don't know how it is with s4 though

Weird.. I also had the s3, well mi wife still has it.. I didn't know, but If I have to guess if would have something to do with Knox Security.. I upgraded my s4 the XDA way... not OTA, I flashed a knox free Rom, and later I odin the modem.. so probably that's why... any way.. it worked I downgraded successfully, now about my issues I think it's the phone, I opened my camera to a blurry screen and it wouldn't focus.. so I'm stoppin by T-mo store to get it exchanged...

If you're going to exchange it anyways, why not Odin back to a 100% completely stock 4.3 TW and see if you are having those issues. Just remember, it's better to figure this out and learn from it just in case this ends up happening to you again. See, because if you go Odin back to 4.3 TW, and you still have this issue, then you can confirm it is a hardware issue. But if you Odin back to 4.3 and you don't have those issues, then you know something in your ROM or services was modified or corrupt. My suggestion, go back to stock and test it out. :good:

Yeah, definitely a HW issue. Good thing it was under warranty. And in most cases, they update the FW before shipping it out, so here's to hoping. :highfive:

Yeah, CF-AR (ChainFires Auto Root). Won't trip knox flag but flashing a recovery like CWM/Philz/TWRP will cause your flag to trip.

[Q] Question about warranty when unlocking bootloader and installing custom ROMS

Will I really lose my warranty if I unlock the bootloader and install custom ROMS?
And will I get back my warranty if I relock the boot loader and flash stock ROM?
Asus can't see I flashed my device in the past if I have stock ROM with locked bootloader, can they?
Can anyone tell me how this works exactly?
Everywhere I read I MAY risk to lose warranty.
Thanks in advance!

No (well...can go either way)
Yes (although you don't really lose it in the first place)
Once you've flashed the factory image and relocked the bootloader, no they can't (only Nexus to have a tamper flag is the N5)
That warning is standard on all unlockable devices. It's a standard disclaimer they put on there just like any other company would (to cover their butts). However, I do see where the company is coming from. I've seen noobs unlock and start flashing, and then end up messing their device up beyond recovery. They then feel they have the right to get it repaired free of charge. If you know what you are doing, chances are good you'll be fine. If something is actually defective, and as long as you still have to ability to flash stock image and relock, you're good. That being said, I've also read stories of people getting RMAs successfully even though they were unlocked/rooted/ROMed. As long as you can make a case that the defect wasn't caused by your own doing, I would imagine you'd be okay.

I have some experience flashing android devices so I probably won't mess up my device I have bought my nexus 7 2013 recently and I don't want to have no warranty when I discover a hardware issue.. But everything seems to be fine actually. I'll install a cm 11 nightly soon.

If you should ever need to bring your N7 to the service within the warranty, you will flash a stock ROM, unroot and lock the bootloader. Then you're 100% stock again with no sign of mods.
Do you have a N7 razor 2013?

Good. Yes, it is probably razor flo, check to be sure. I have the same one. Just keep in mind to save all your data and settings elswhere as unlocking the bootloader for the first time will instantly wipe whole your tab and poasibly even corrupt the /data partition.
I have written this morning how to get out of it in one other N7 thread.

This the method I used for rooting when I had 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611175
Check my signature for a link to how I rooted with 4.4.2
Depending on the version of Android you have on that phone, it will trip the Knox flag. Which won't affect the performance of the phone, but will indicate you messed with your phone. There may be other rooting methods that work, but this one worked for me.
BTW, I found that method by using Search on this forum and Google.

The safe root method is how i rooted with 4.3 but it is my understanding that you need your phone to be unlocked to use a different carrier. Unlocked and rooted are 2 different things.

Unlocked sop I can use whatever carrier I want.
Rooted Because I want control over my pohone and not somebody else saying what I can and cant do with it.
I can get it to bot in cwm recovery but thats all it won't rot the rom so I can see it its rooted or not. I followed eth entire instructions provided and used oden like it said to and all I suceded in doing was makeing a damn brick out of a phone I got to have running tomorrow morning

If you can get into Download mode (Power Off, then Volume Down+Power Button), then you'll need to download the Stock Rom and transfer it to your phone via ODIN. Do you know if you were 4.2, 4.3, or 4.42 before you bricked it? You can download the images from Sammobile.com

If you have access to ClockWork Mod Recovery, wipte the cache and dalvik and see if that lets it boot.
If not, just download a rom, any rom from the dev section that you want to try and put it on a micro SD card. Put the SD card in your phone.
Do a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik) in recovery and flash the downlaoded ROM file. Your phone should boot right up.
You'll want a TouchWiz based rom if you still need to perform the SIM unlock proceedure so you can use it on the Cricket network. But once step at a time here...

Thats cause it wasn;t rooted before, hopefully it is now, cause my wife just went to Cricket to see if she can get her Iphone and mine on their network

I found Smemo on line, took a while since I'm on oxycodone for pain due to a hernia operateing, but I got it, placed it in eth rom and reflashed it
Now I'd love to find a theme for Wicked V10 that would change teh color of the phone dialpad, I HATE white dialers, makes me remember when I was a kid back in teh 60' when my mom had nothing but white so she could see if it was clean, and sanitized, degermed, and all that, ( yes I was an outside type, and brought it all inside )
Oh and all I can say guys, is thanks for trying to help me I WILL figure it out for the firmware and hardware and software that I have, experimenting with a phone that I totally bricked today, gotta re-instal the entire os on it, so I'm gonna experiment with various versions of the SGH-M919 software, if I find out what works on what I'll post it for you guys to check and make sure I did right

Your best bet is to ask in the rom thread. I have yet to flash anything on my P607T other then rooting. It looks like Dev work is very slow for this tablet. So you may not get a 100% working AOSP rom any time soon. Stock rom is really fast and sable once you root and deboat it. That is what I am sticking with for awhile.

Your best way is to just use TB and froze whatever you do not want. If you run into problems just unfroze it. If you uninstall and you run into a bootloop you will need to have the stock Odin firmware ready. here is a link to get the stock odin file.

I just uninstalled whatever I did not want. If you google What apps are safe to remove on a Note 3 to debloat, it will pretty much be the same as the 10.1. Both the note 3 and the 10.1 are pretty much the same other then screen.
Edit: I got this list from here

Here is a a list for the GS4 which as a lot of the apps we have as well

unlocking bootloader
I think we need to get the bootloader unlocked to get development on this thing rollin'
I'm willing to lend my device to a well-reputed senior-member/developer and pay shipping both ways if they think they can work some magic for the SM-P607T
Should I make a new post with regards to this?
Was able to root using this method no Knox either

bootloader is unlocked and there is no problems getting root and current Twrp can be installed which says the bootloader is unlock. if the bootloader was locked you wouldn't be able to flash Twrp. from the looks of it no one has a p607. it is all 605 or the wifi only one p600 and 601. stock rom with root and debloated works great. try a 605 rom. hopefully CM starts to pick up more then we are set.

Do P605 ROMs even work on a P607T? I've been wondering that myself. I have a 607T and although I am very impressed with the stock ROM it just is never going to measure up to CM for me.
I've been thinking about giving the P605 CM 11 port a try in a few weeks when it's just a bit more stable, but I have no idea how similar they are or if my device would even boot after flashing it!

Anyway to flash the "modem.bin" and "NON-HLOS.bin" flash partitions yet?

Guys... Did you even read that thread in the link?
You should be asking these questions there... That whole thread is dedicated to making calls on the P607T.... And if you read the thread you'll know the author hit a brick wall and a boot loader hack is needed to flash the proper modem files for phone calls.

Reading is Fundamental, amirite? (... sorry, couldn't resist )
But yeah, go there for any updates.

Haha. Thank you kcrudup for pointing to that thread, gave me some useful info on using P605 Roms on a P607T.
Any idea about what sort of problems may pop up from doing this? I got a reply in the CM thread that their P605 version of CM should work fine on my P607 but... Surely it can't be that simple? Any idea what differences there are between thecode of the two tablets or is it really that similar?

I'm 95% sure the only difference physically is the radio "front end" hardware is tuned for the T-Mo LTE frequencies so the modem baseband SW reflects that, and software-wise all that's new is a few pre-installed apps like the "My T-Mobile" app and that (loud-and-annoying-as-hell-and-quickly-removed) T-Mobile "jingle" on startup; I've put several P605 ROMs on my 607T and everything's worked OK ('cause the bootloader won't let me overwrite the radios and potentially-dangerous bootloader files anyway).

Awesome info thanks so much!! So if I understand correctly, any differnces that would render my tablet completely inoperable are already protected from flashing? So I don't need to meet with the TARs for the Roms to remove the modem files or anything?
I mean, I don't mind if my radio breaks or something, I can handle flashing back to stock I am just never sure when I start flashing a new Android device what risks there are of bricking it completely (which, with Knox in the picture, could totally screw me).
So with that I will probably be going flash crazy tonight and tomorrow to test our some different 605 Roms starting with Cyanogen. I'll try to post any findings or quarks here or in those threads!

You will have to remove all the "*.mbn" and "*.bin" files from (Samsung-supplied) non-P607T ROMs, though- Odin will abort the flash if it receives a bad status from the bootloader when the bootloader rejects the flash operation. But it should be a straightforward unzip/rm/zip operation to repack, and I'm sure the CM flashes are just "boot" and "system" (and possibly "recovery") partitions anyway.

so is it necessary to remove the above mentioned files. I can't just flash a p605 rom with twrp?

Yes it is necessary, the .mbn files relate to the bootloader and the .bin files is the modem and NON_HLOS, being that they are for a different ROM it could cause major problems and maybe even bricking. @kcrudup even mentioned the bootloader conflicting with Odin if the device models don't match, so it seems you won't get the 605's installed without removing said files.

I have been looking for a guide for flashing twrp onto my sm-p607t but i cant find one. I mainly need the correct twrp img.tar file for odin. I found this one ( openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-lt03wifiue.img ) but I don't know if it is the right one. I used towelroot to root it and i used the proper supersu to disable knox so i just need the custom recovery now.
