Guys I noticed a couple weeks ago, if I tap on the back of the phone, right behind the top speaker, it makes a noise. Sounds like something loose in there. Anybody else hear this, or is it unique to mine? (maybe warranty issue)
having the same noise

Maybe hardware related then, thanks damn66
Same noise here. Glad it's not just mine.
a small consensus seems to attribute this to the camera auto-focus mechanism. it should 'clear up' when the camera is in use.
also noted that the same thing happens with a 6P (from nextbit forums)... sounds like a reasonable explanation.
Bringing this thread back from the dead because I have a similar noise. I found it's the lense covering the flashlight. The lense moves a little when I tap it with my fingernail and/or if I shake the top of the phone. Anyone else having this issue? When I turn on the flashlight, only the top LED lights up. I just got my Nextbit Robin. Thanks.

The bottom LED lights only light up when using the flash on the camera app and taking a photo. The lens for the dual tone flash shouldn't move though.

If I tap just below the camera on the back cover I can hear a slight rattle, almost like a loose component. You can slightly hear it if you shake the phone but it becomes louder when tapping it.
Does anyone else have this or is it just me?

What you hear is probably the camera lens - the bit that moves inside to focus the subject. Its like it on all phones with this type of lens (had it on HD and HD2).
Thanks. Just wanted to make sure it was meant to be like that and the it isnt faulty.
Its problably the volume rocker, its a bit loose fit. It is the rattle with me..
When I tap my phone on back cover near the camera there is a distinct rattling sound. It's as if there is something loose inside the phone.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Nothing here, for me build quality is superb!
mines nearer to lower left section of back cover behind the home key but only just a minor creak.. to be expected with a plastic construction I guess (waiting for HTC to release a Legend type unibody on Desire)...

Same problem here. I'm going crazy from this sound. It seems that it is something in camera construction (maybe autofocus?) because when I take photos I get the same sound.

It's your camera.
A lot of phones that doesn't have fixed focus will have this issue. It's due to the lence moving inside its housing, creating that rattling sound.
My previous 3gs had it, my desire has it now. Nothing to worry about, but really annoying

Same here. Unfortunately it seems that this is a problem with HTC Desire.
No, its a problem with the cameras HTC uses. My Hero had the same rattle. so did the phone a friend uses. Other brands have the rattle as well.
It's just part of the camera and autofocus. wouldn't exactly call it bad build quality as well...

Thanks for the replies guys.
I had better stop tapping it if it's the camera! LOL
Wasn't sure if I should request exchanget but if they are all the same then no point.
Presumably it's the rattle that lets the camera zoom optically?
My N82 has this too. I'm pretty sure most autofocus camera phones will have this. I certainly don't think its a problem or a build quality issue. Does anyone NOT have that rattle when they sahke there phone upside down?
I have the rattle aswell. Oddly enough I have an LG Viewty with auto and manual focus and it doesn't have the same rattle. My N95 8GB didn't have the rattle either. My digital camera doesn't rattle either when I tap the lense. I'm guessing that it's just because the lense isn't that great.
Some devices are known to have this problem. Is is coming from the camera and is perfectly normal.
No rattles here, however frame of my desire is a bit... bent. You know, that brown part?
I pushed in so it's kinda ok now, but from some angles I can see light leaking out.
Some with trackball, the ball is a bit pushed to the right side, so light leaks out on the left side.
Kinda bummed for that, I mean this is after all quite expensive piece of technology...
EDIT: after some knocking around, there's that rattle, ARGHHHHH
It's the autofocus mech in the camera.
In my particular case, the camera is the culprit. It seems that the black piece inside the metal square chassis rattles when you tap it. When the vibration motor is active, it rattles the camera inside. Just sharing since it seems this issue has popped up a couple times.
Only solution I can think is to take out the black camera piece from the chassis and maybe stuff it a little tighter or order a new replacement, but the camera could be made that way. I'll take it apart again later today to see if there is some space for small paper or something to keep it still.
I've been getting this rattle for awhile now and was wondering what it was. Between the touch screen and bootloop, this is the third strike.
I also have a sound from the sound vibration motor, but its not so much a rattle sound, more of a beeping/squealing sound. Is this normal? Its not very loud but it annoys me when typing in a quiet room. Remember I had the exact same sound on my last LG phone so maybe its an engineering thing or the brand of vibration motor.

I noticed this on the forums too. I listened for this but couldn't find it. If I put my ear really close to the motor I heard a small whine, but it seemed like it was something else rather than the motor because it was constant. I will say the rattle could sound higher pitched to others depending on movement. My sound is a small rattle but I could see how maybe it could vary to a squeaking or squealing noise to some.

This is how mine sounds, mic is right next to the phone so its louder than during normal use. You have this to?

The camera has Optical Image Stabilization. Packing the gaps will stop this working. The rattling is just the camera moving around.

Did you listen to the sound in my video? You have that to? Its mostly when using haptic feedback on home and back buttons and the third button down at the bottom
I have noticed that the notification led is too much low in brightness. I I find it really difficult to notice it. So I have "ripped" a bit the covering grid (that protects the speaker) and now I can see the full LED, it is incredibly bright now!
Is it normal or can it be a production defect from your point of view?

It's normal only, it's behind the speaker protection mesh only

Hey my Honor and Huawei phones have a similar design of a very tiny notification LED behind the speaker grille. I am thinking of "ripping" the covering grid like you did but I am scared of damaging the phone or the display. What tool should I use and is it ok if safely and carefully done? As it is, the current notification LED is completely useless as you can't see it from 1 feet away.

Don't rip it off as more dust will accumulate in your speaker. Notification led is less visible because of the dust which settles on that mesh. I have found one simple solution. Just buy one paint brush small one and poke it through that mesh & blow air over it. This worked for me. Dust will be removed and it'll become more visible. Hope it works for you too.
Hi all. There are 2 LEDs, but when flashlight is on, only one (on the top) is active. I thought the second one can be activated when camera is used, but no, it does not help. Any ideas on how and when it should be active? Can someone check this on your device so that I can know whether it is a hardware issue with my phone? Thanks in advance!
It seems that's a kind of light sensor, or infrared led - because it even doesn't shine when I apply external 365nm UV light source.
It's the second light sensor which measures light coming from the back side of the phone. When you shine a strong light directly on this sensor, screen brightness bumps up after a while. It doesn't happen if you cover the sensor by finger. The purpose is to have screen readable when you're holding the phone against bright background (window, TV screen...) and in my experience it's quite a nice feature.
