Fire TV 1st gen factory reset through adb? (without settings) - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i've rooted my Fire TV 1st gen and disabled the stock launcher, then it updated itself to the newest unrootable firmware. Without root I can't reactivate / unfreeze the launcher, but I read somewhere that it will automatically be reactivated by a factory reset. The problem is that I can't access settings menu with the disabled launcher, so is there any way to perform a factory reset through adb? Thanks in advance for your help!
Greetz, M33

I didn´t try this but for some Android devices and depending on the installed recovery this adb command may work:
Code:
adb shell recovery --wipe_data

how about the setting app?
hope it helps

I think I messed it up, it won't boot now so I'm returning it to amazon, but maybe someone else has the same problem...

Elocity A7 + defaults reset after boot

I picked up one of the new Elocity A7+. I was able to get it rooted with a little effort. But I have one issue I can't get past.
Whenever the pad reboots all the changes I make to any system related files reset to default. So if I edit the default.prop, it will go back or uninstall system apps and they are back after reboot. If I enable USB debugging , reboot it is disabled. The system and root show as RW
ADB windows see the pad but Linux wont, I have tried Ubuntu and Mint.
I am about ready to test a ROM I am making, but Even with my changes if it still defaults to my configuration that can be annoying for anybody wanting to do their own settings. Also before I posted how I got it rooted I was hoping to have a fix figured out to ad to it, but I am stumped.
Any ideas?

[Q] Lock Screen Password Reset?

Hi All,
My 10 y.o. son changed the lockscreen password on his Kindle Fire 2 HD 7" and is now unable to access. He has used all but 2 of the allowed unlock attempts, and is now 2 tries away from an automatic factory reset. The device has all stock settings, has not been rooted nor any other modifications. I'm trying to figure out if there is anything I can do to crack/read/reset the lockscreen PIN / password with the device in its current state, or if a factory reset is the only option? The big issue is he does not want to lose his game save data. I work in IT, and am very comfortable with both Linux & Windows command line tools. Is it possible for me to access the files on his Kindle, or to perform root modifications while unable to get past the lock screen password? I have read many posts on this forum, but cannot find one which speaks to my specific situation. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Thanks for the link; I am not sure if USB Debugging / Enable ADB is enabled on this Kindle Fire HD device. If it is not, will this approach work? Since the lock screen password is unknown, I am not able to go into the device & check/modify this setting.
The YouTube video is not of practical use, since I am trying to avoid having to perform a factory reset.

No, the instructions there assume you have debugging enabled AND your computer is added to the list of authorized computers (on the device) to send adb commands. That's a nice little security feature Google added recently to prevent stolen devices from being hacked into

Thanks, so if I'm reading this correctly - if I am unable to connect via ADB, I have no option except for the factory reset? Am I able to root the device while the lock screen password is unknown, or would that process also be blocked to me? The factory reset is easy enough, and I know we can reinstall his games, apps, and books - but the big problem (for my son at least!) is that he will lose all of his Dragonvale progress save data!
I have a different approach on it that may be more complicated and I don't know the full method of doing this, but if u can flash twrp onto the recovery and the custom bootloader for kf2 (is it fff?) Then in twrp u could mount the partition, plug it into your pc, and copy the data folder for that game. But I am unfamiliar with the process for modifying the boot loader on kf2's since I don't have one. I know u could probably flash twrp from fastboot, but idk if the kf2 has be booted up with adb and root to install fff. Probably could force it into recovery by softbricking it but I don't suggest doing that from fastboot because it might hard brick if u flash a bad image for all I know. Only way I can think of safely getting it to soft brick and go into twrp is to get someone else with a rooted kf2 to do something like use adb to move their framework-res.apk to sdcard and then backup the system partition while the kindle is in a broken state and pull the backup, then put their framework back, chmod it and reboot and hand u the system image that's broken so u could flash it from fastboot. Usually when you do something like this the ki dle will go into recovery. Told ya my method was really complicated and well slightly risky.

As you are an IT experts, you may try to unlock your lock screen password with some free tool, such as Ophcrack. Also you can try other Windows Password Recovery tools to keep all data safe. I got this Youtube video: youtu.be/QyGptsC3VLg

Accidentally froze KFTV Launcher and can't access XMBC or Amazon.

I forgot to launch XMBC before freezing the KFTV launcher, and now my system's just stuck on the amazon logo. Luckily I've installed the CM and launcher so can get an IP address and the recovery boot menu. Anyone know the command to re-enable the KFTV launch? I know the updates are: pm enable com.amazon.dcp - but I imagine there's a similar command for the KFTV launcher.
edit: I can't get into the root of the Android system, only "~ #" - so I can't run the command to view disabled services/apps. I've already tried to install the bueller custom ROM again but that didnt help. Do I need to factory reset?
In the end I factory reset the box, disabled the update sites in my router, and rebooted. back to normal operation. FYI - re-installing a bueller ROM didn't work.

Rooted amazon fire tv booting to black screen.

Hello, today one of my rooted fire tv's became stuck on black screen and basically none of the important stuff can be accessed. This has happened to me a few times in the past and I am usually able to get the settings menu launched by playing around with the remote and the voice functions or if all else fails usually disconnecting my network will prompt the network connections menu which then will jog the main settings again and from there I can force quit and get it back up and running. But today I have gone through pretty much every method I know of and still no luck just a black screen. I run xposed on my fire tv so it is set to use spmc as the homescreen launcher. Any other methods out there that I have not tried? I wanted to avoid having to do a factory restore and reinstall everything if I can.

If you just need to get into the settings menu, then connect to the Fire TV via ADB and run the following command to load up the settings menu:
Code:
adb shell am start -n com.amazon.tv.launcher/.ui.SettingsActivity

The only other way is to hold the home button until the popup menu appears with the settings option. You have to be on one of the newer software version for that to work since it was recently added.

none sideload apps are working after latest update

Usually I let my fire tv update it self, cause I don't really care bout something going to be broken since I have no root in there..but not anymore since the last update (5.0.5)kick in,and that messed up one of my helpful app i used..Name is mouse toggle i used for the remote..uninstall tried to put it back but can't get none of the sideload apps to work with my fire tv..anyone out there kwn which one that's working or in PC..any links please? your help would be appreciate.I'm a none root user possibly will use for that purpose as well
Ths
im using this on 5.0.5 on my rooted AFTV2, my boys non rooted stick the one with the voice controller, & my AFTV stick without the voice controller & non rooted. Works on all of them, since you have installed OS5 things have changed in the settings of Firestarter which need to be changed, ADB only works with one device at a time so you have to look in your firestarter settings? try a fresh reboot? or reintall the app again?
Ok..deanr1977 I got it all figured..i now that i root, I'm waiting for a working costume recovery so I can install a nice launcher get ridded of somes bloats..thanks for your replied though
