Looks like the boot.img on the WiFi only model is slightly different. Flashed the rooted boot.img file and now I'm stuck at the Dual Core technology screen. Anyone have this available. All help greatly appreciated!
UPDATE
See thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12432218
Can someone post the stock xoom wifi dump of the boot.img, recovery.img, system.img, and userdata.img in case something happens?
Apparently it looks like its slightly different than the wifi+3g version. Also is the overclocked kernel file working posted by coolbho3000?
i need the answer too... i m comfused.
Alright I have a stock Xoom tablet now Just gotta figure out how to pull the boot.img file off. Any ideas and I'll do it ASAP.
No clue mate. From my knowledge you have to be rooted, or have the SDK on your pc. I think. Neither which are available as of now
So is the wifi only version able to be rooted as of now?
currently, yes. We need a new root method. Well I would not say a new "method" but their need to be some modifications done to the original rootboot img file. Shouldnt be hard for devs

Issue 1: Don't currently have root
Issue 2: No SD card access
But I did try it and got an access denied.

Think for the Xoom it would be from a windows command prompt:
adb shell cat /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/boot > c:\boot.img
I could be wrong but try it and see.

It's actually a Permission issue.
/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/boot: Permission denied
So someone with root needs to run it. Anyone wanna help out? Im not getting mine till tomorrow but by then I suppose you would have yours exchanged

That's actually the catch-22... can't get root because we don't have the right boot.img file. I think it's going to boil down to Motorola releasing a stock one.
If anyone is up for IRC chat - hop onto Freenode and room #Xoom
I can try if someone tells me what needs to be done. I tried copying it over to another folder in root explorer but no luck.
Update: Ran through the fastboot oem unlock in hopes that it would resolve the Permission Denied. It did not.

You'll end up with a (soft)brick
No luck
I also booted into fast boot, tried and still got no permission sometimes and no such directory some times... If some one will walk me through getting the img file I will gladly do so
how can I remove the softbrick, I saw this AFTER I tried to root and now I cannot even turn it off, just sitting on the Motorola Dual Core Technology screen.
ok I also now need to the stock boot.img from a wifi xoom. Can anyone help? I can flash it if someone can provide it please, if not I guess I will go exchange my xoom in the morning.
has anyone started to root this device?
i need to gain access to the root folder

Whaha really Genius!
But rooting can't be far away now..... Because I don't think the Durex is sold out in the super market. I actually think they have a special offer...
It's precisely because of the lack of root access that I've held of unlocking my bootloader; I don't see any point of having to erase all my data and setting up my device when there's no pay-off in the form of root and custom ROMs
Yeah well you never know if SE change their minds and cancel the unlocking website
Better get your gift before Santa takes it back
I will try to convince Marc from MIUI to think about the Arc...
I don't think SE will change it's mind, but the longer you wait, the more adjustments you make on your device (well at least I do..). So that's why I unlocked the bootloader as soon as I had my Arc. Even though I had allready played with it. But what the h*ll, now I had to play a bit longer with it. I don't see the problem
They wont change their mind but the downside of unlocking is that you cannot update using SEUS
Hopefully SE will change that if you use stock firmware but have the bootloader unlocked

I don't see where that's a problem : if you unlock your bootloader, it's because you want to flash custom roms, isn't it ?
Who care about stock update when we get better functionnalities and often faster updates with all the leaks with custom roms ?
I need somebody to carry out the following steps on their bootloader unlocked device

Hi guys, i have a UK EE htc m8 gun metal gray and have been using since launch day. I am very happy with the phone. One issue only as in the UK we only have the 16gb version available. the application storage space is an issue so i wanted to root my phone so i can make use of my 128gb micro sd card i have purchased to install apps & media. I have looked everywhere and all the threads are covering american at&t or verison only. Maybe i havent looked at the right place yet. Can any one help me root my phone (who has experience of this issue from a uk point of veiw) so i can make use of apps & data to micro sd. I am very new to rooting & moding and this would be my first time. I would greatly appreciate if there is anybody who can assist. One other question is as i use my credit card to purchase from online google play store, amazon would there be a security risk for me by rooting. Thank you guys for your time and you can msg me anytime.

Hi Shah Dawon
I can see from your original post you are considering rooting your M8.
Have you, or will you be doing a backup of the stock rom? If so would you consider letting me have a copy of it to allow me to return my phone to stock.
Thanks

Thanks again.
Someone referred to the hasoon unlock tool, but I haven't been able to get that to work.
I followed the instructions, fastboot off, usb debugging on (I'm on windows 8.1), tried it with all of my laptops USB ports (my phone pics/movies are backed up).
Installed the HTC driver, rebooted(the unlocker tool says it's windows 8 compatible), ran everything as administrator
registered at htc dev
ran the "get token ID", and the command prompt is giving me an error, the whole window reads
"daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037
daemon started successfully
error: device not found"
I've noticed in an instructional video on youtube, when the individual plugs his phone into his windows 7 PC, he gets an immediate prompt on his phone allowing that PC debug access @ 4:53 in the video . ( youtube.com/watch?v=FsOaRQoJWWDw I don't get that RSA key prompt, so I'm assuming that's where my problem is?
Anyone know how to fix that? I've tried reinstalling the HTC drivers, rebooting both devices, and revoking certifficates
running win 8.1 x64, pretty standard these days
software version 2.16.651.4
android 4.4.3
I'm not even trying to do anything that crazy, except put the harmon karmon software on my sprint m8

I unlocked my HTC One M8 (from EE) using HTCDev the day after I got it, have been rooted, ran custom Roms, obtained S-Off and now back at stock S-Off.
The only thing about doing it this way is that HTC may have a record of you unlocking your bootloader.
I don't have any experience in doing it any other way (I try and stay away from Toolkits as I find it is better to learn adb and fastboot so you know exactly what you are doing, and it will also help in fixing things if they go wrong).
Thanks for your input I really appreciate it. Can you possibly give a step by step as im new to this. And also would there be a security issue with purchasing from online using personal banking details like amazon, google play etc... Thank you for your responce.

If you want to unlock the official way (HTC may know you have done this) and root, this tells you all you need to know: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/vomerguides-m8-bootldr-unlock-s-off-t2800727
If you don't want to use HTCDev unlocking, your only other real option is obtaining S-Off (via Firewater - may not work on your device, or Sunshine - will work on your device but costs $25).
One thing I will say before attempting ANYTHING is, Read, Read, Read, then Read again.
Make sure you are 100% sure you know what you are doing before attempting anything.
Couple of tips:
1. Make a note of your original CID (fastboot getvar cid) - if its EE it will probably be ORANG001.
2. If you get a custom recovery installed, make a backup of your stock ROM, and keep it somewhere safe - it might be handy to get you out of any problems.
In regards to your other questions: as soon as you root your device you are opening up a potential security risk as apps that ask for root could potentially have access to EVERYTHING on your phone (once you have given it root permissions). I am sure 99.9999999999% of apps that you install from Google Play are totally safe, but you never know.
Some mobile banking apps will not work on rooted devices (Barclays for instance) so be aware of that too!
Hope this helps some!
Stewart

Hello to everyone. I just bought a new Captivate from Canada (rogers). I live in Greece, so the Canadian seller had to unlock the phone in order it to work with Greek networks. And it worked ok. Will I loose this unlock function if I make an upgrade to the phone with official or unofficial rom? In which cases I will lose this unlock function in order to be carefull with that? If I loose it will I be able to unlock it again by myself? Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much guys!!! With your help I managed to root my phone and install cm11. But I have a serious problem now. I want to make efs backup and efs-pro doesn't work. (I have debug on)
version 1.9.12 freezes at the first initializing screen
version 2.1.80 and 2.1.73 at start tell me that:
YOUR DEVICE IS NOT PERM ROOTED!
THE APPLICATION WILL NOW EXIT
What I am doing wrong? I begin to scare that I will not be able to make this kind of backup...
Do I have to use terminal emulator? I used these commands but when I write the first line, it says that it cant find the file
Please help me. I don't know what else to do

1) open a terminal
2) type in su --> now you may need to give root permissions
3) type in tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
4) type in dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 of=/sdcard/efs-dd.img
5) connect your device to a PC and copy both the efs-backup.tar.gz and efs-dd.img to your PC
6) now you have a full backup of your efs and therefore your phone unlock state
Step 2 is essential you need root for this in order to work.
Normally you can see a change from a dollar $ sign to a hash # one after root has been achieved like this:
xxxxxx:/ $ > su (answering the request for root permissions with yes)
xxxxxx:/ # >
If you get trouble it would be helpful when you tell the exact the error messages etc..
Greetings

Everything is ok with my glide by now with your help and I am very happy. I have one more question. If someone could answer, I would appreciate that. When I first bought glide from Canada (Rogers) and open it in Greece, it had ofcourse Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). The strange then was that when I was using it, my local network in Greece was showing me on phone that 4G signal was enabled/on(???). Now that I have installed cm11, there is no 4G option. Finally, can glide run on 4G network or not?

Hello everyone,
i own a ZE550ML model of zenphone 2, its current build number is 4.21.40.69_20160624_8187.....
So i have tried rooting it in two ways
1) ROOTING VIA TEMPORARY CWM.
2) Using the one click tool for rooting.
both the methods return the following error (attached it as a ss)
So when i tried googling it i found 2 solutions
1) disable all screen locks and patterns .
2) run the fastboot as admin or set it to run as admin.
both of the above methods didn't solve my issue.
So please let me know what i am doing wrong or how the issue can be solved ,
thank you!
P.S: So if i unlock the bootloader using the official tool from the site and install the SuperSU file will the phone be rooted then?
